Is their support for this? will a special cable be needed? or will we have this option not available?
Thanks for any info on this
No, not possible.
Have a search of this forum, there has been a few threads about it, and all of them have concluded that you can't.
The HTC Touch Pro had TV-out functionality? Why not the HD2?

No, you can't.
I know this post is old, but I have a nexus one and considered going back to WM for the HD2 bc like the OP, i missed the video out. I used it on my tp2 on my car.
I will assume your forum is correct, and for the next guy who googles this, I will explain why, and probably why they don't have it anymore.
HTC used to use a proprietary USB jack on their phones, like the TP TP2 Diamond, etc, that had 5 extra pins on the back side of the USB. This allowed you to use an htc video out cable, or audio cable, to transmit av over the usb cord. this is why you can use any micro USB car charger from a gas station, as I did more often than not, to charge your phone. But you cannot use your HTC charger on a regular micro USB phone. It won't fit other electronics.
Now my guess as to why they cut that option out:
Everyone complained about that proprietary jack. Moving GSM phones to a global charger standard is a hot topic the past year or two. Everyone complains about all the special cords that do the same thing, and I saw it in reviews of all htc phones. Few people understood the reasoning, bc HTC made you buy that cable seperately as I did so most people, especially those new to windows mobile, didn't even think to use their phones for TV out. Those who did know probably didn't buy enough of those cables.
And so HTC changes to micro and mini USB, as all new android and wm htc phones have, 15 people on XDA [including me] complain of losing video out, they lose like 50 dollars in cord sales, and 100,000 bloggers praise them for moving to a standard USB configuration. PR is a win, lol.
IMHO that really sucks. I install car electronics, and I'ld be willing to bet half the people I know who tried out an htc phone did it because they thought it was cool I could watch movies, browse the net, and play games on the screen in my car. I honestly didn't find many practical uses for it but I loved it anyways. Imagine a ps2 emulator playing a racing game with me using my phone as a controller and you'll get the idea. HTC is trying hard to make it to the big leagues, and like Microsoft with WP7, adopting to lower end consumers loses alot of favor with power users like us.
Not to start an argument... but thats why I moved to Android, and thats why my next phone will be the Incredible, video out or EVO 4g which has HDMI out, or samsung galaxy S, which has HDMI out... you get the picture.

The Touch Pro series had video out built in to the hardware on purpose and was advertised as having it. Not all HTC phones with mini-usb had video-out. And I'm pretty sure I was able to use my mini-usb charger from my touch-pro on any mini-usb phone or device.

Couldn't have said it better any other way. Otherwise the HD2 would be my phone for a couple of years more because it is an awesome phone!
Signature way out dated -_-*,

This phone is amazing, speed, screen, programs, etc.
Only two things I do not like is:
1. No mini USB connection
2. Battery could have been more than 1230 mAh.
Maybe HD3 will be dream machine.
Micro-USB is now the default mobile port and ALL phones will have it (bar the iPhone). It's been agreed

While I also agree that this device is blazingly fast compared with previous HTC offerings, I'm with you too on the two issues you've noted.
On point 2, I suspect that it won't be too long for me to pick up an after-market extended battery for the HD2 as I did for the Touch Diamond.
Point 1, concerning the miniUSB... I have to agree, it's bad enough having multiple devices, that require all different types of connections. Seems if one travels anywhere carrying a range of different electronic devices then half the baggage in-tow is all the cables. It's ridiculous! I have several Nokia phones, which I haven't used for several years since I picked up my HTC P3300 when it was first released. Great device with all the usual goodies that we come to expect now from HTC. I especially liked the way I could navigate the menus/device using trackball and scroll-wheel, which is especially great when using GPS. Since the purchase of the P3300 I've bought two other HTC's; TD & TD2. Both great additions, luv both of them but miss the trackball and scroll-wheel.
Aside from each being feature packed & all round great devices, they've all shared the same mini-USB connection, which meant I only needed to have one power cable either in my car, on my motorcycle or elsewhere, especially important for when I use GPS and want external power. The flip-side being that the same connection also was utlilised for the headphone/FM antenna, which was no biggie for me, I didn't use them much anyway.
Fast forward to my HD2 purchase a few weeks back, to my surprise the miniUSB connection is gone which I never realised until after I'd bought it -had I known I may have reconsidered the purchase. While I have dedicated miniUSB power & car accessory chargers, I already have a couple of universal car-charger kits which come with multiple plug adaptors. All the ones I have and all those I have seen since buying the HD2, have miniUSB connectors, and not one has this new slimline connector. Even yesterday I checked out a number of different stores and none have the new connector.
What a pain in-the-arse, I now have to carry two different connectors if I want to use my HD2 and any other older HTC... especially a pain to setup on my motorcycle. I've even thought about going to a tech repair store and asking them to swap-out the connector to the miniUSB. I'll see...
Just my two kuais worth... (Rant over) from a foreigner based in mainland China.
Its not advertised, however I've had phones in the past with the functionality even though its not advertised, kind of treated as a standard feature.
Before I shelled out for the X10, I read quite a few reviews and spec sheets on it and was very impressed by the offering. One site I normally used before buying a phone is GSM Arena as they seem to be very good and realistic.
Anyways point in hand, they all said, under multimedia that Video Out was present on the phone.
This doesn't seem to be the case at all! I've tried 3 3.5mm video out cables, all which I know work with othet devices but nothing but audio.
Anyone else has any success with it, or have any insight to whether it'll come or not?
I appreciate I have already posted a similar question in the accessories area, however it doesn't get enough traffic for any decent answers to come from it. Cheers guys!

Wrap-up
Let us be crystal clear: we love this phone. Nay, we adore it. But the fact remains that it's still very much an Android device -- which means that if you don't like Android now, odds are good that even Android executed on the most amazing hardware to date won't do much to change your opinion of it. You've also got to be concerned about upgradeability; Froyo is almost certainly around the corner now, and HTC hasn't done anything to suggest it's able to push Sense-powered updates in a timely fashion.
That said, this is truly one of the best smartphones ever made, and even spotty 4G -- a reality of a young technology that's going to take years to properly build out -- probably won't do much to hamper your enjoyment of this thing. It's reasonable to assume that phones like the EVO will ultimately come to every carrier over the next few months... but hey, if you jumped ship for Sprint to pick up this monster, we wouldn't be able blame you.

Highlights:
-battery life seems robust
-screen seems as nice as the AMOLED on the nexus one
-HD video recording ok, not spectacular
This is going to be one solid phone. And yeah, I know engadget is not the end-all be-all of reviews, but a lot of people sure are going to be reading it as their audience is huge.
So the two weeks of waiting is now going to seem like 5 months, DAMN I want this phone. Can't wait for the first custom ROM . . .
**** i was just about to post this haha, reading now so excited!
was just about to my self, damn you!
The upgradeability issue is really the only major point that is preventing me from pre-ordering. I mean, how long is it going to be until Sense phones get 2.2? Months? It took several months for phones to get 2.1 I don't want to wait months for the supposed speed advantages that 2.2 brings.
I didn't wait months on my hero. Why did you?
Also that video is very disappointing. I don't understand why HTC cameras suck compared to what Apple uses but they need to fix it.

I disagree, I think it was one of the better reviews i've seen.
Likes & Dislikes
Likes:
1. Huge screen, thinner than my current TP2
2. Kickstand - seriously, a phone has to come with some serious balls if it has a kickstand
3. 2.1 + sense = customizable, as opposed to boring iPhone OS
4. HQ Youtube
5. Engadget's review indicates a good battery life, certainly better than i expected - several hours as a 4g hotspot?! After a couple of hours of heavy use?!?!
6. If you watched Engadget's video review, it is snappy as hell, very responsive; only lag was when turning on 4g radio.
7. Review indicates good shutter response with photos - TP2 is annoyingly slow to take a photo.
Dislikes:
1. Will have to wait 4 months for 4g (and that's according to Sprint) in my area
2. Camera lens flush with bezel, which means scratches, which sucks.
3. Mandatory accessories, like a GPS-style car dash mount and HDMI cable, will rape my wallet.
4. Video calling could not be tested in time for the review, which is a major feature for me. Hopefully Skype releases something for Android for video calls. 3g bandwidth is sufficient for Skype video calls, as i do it all the time from my embedded VZ card on my laptop. Maybe 'Skype HD for Android'? Has a nice ring to it, eh?
What does everyone else think about the review? Either way, I am sold on this device.

That's not the point. Rooting my own phone is fine, but if my mom has this phone, I don't want to deal with roms and rooting with her phone and fixing any issues that come up. You should not have to wait months for an official version update for Android.
OK, forgot to mention the car charger.
But HDMI cable is definitely mandatory - who else can plug-in their CELL PHONE into an HDTV for 720p playback? Geez, what's the point of having this device if you can't show it off!
I recall at a Sprint/HTC/Microsoft launch event of the TP2, the rep's plugged in their TP2's directly into a laptop to show off the capability of running a PowerPoint presentation from the device - like anyone plugs in their smartphones to PC's to say, 'check it out, i'm running a PP presentation from this thing'. Good thing the slides were nothing but text.
If the Evo's HDMI port's are 'standard', then I should be able to find an appropriate cable anywhere. HDMI cables that cost $30-$50 at Best Buy i can get for less than ten bucks elsewhere, same brand, same length.
Does anyone know what type of HDMI cable would be required?
If it's some sort of proprietary cable, at launch you can probably only get it from the carrier, which does rape customers with accessories.
Hopefully it's a 'standard' cable.

Just search for "mini HDMI cable" on Amazon and you'll get plenty of hits for cables under $10. Some way under $10. I would post links, but my newbie status prevents me from doing so.
***EDIT***
My bad. The mini HDMI cable is NOT what you want for the EVO 4G. It should be an HDMI cablewith a micro (Type D) connector. Sorry for the mis-information.
I found this one for $15

mini hdmi cable at amazon for under 5 bucks shipped to you. Same cable is 69.99 at bestbuy. also you could just carry a HDMI to mini HDMI converter cable with you
Just remember it needs to be a TYPE-D mini hdmi cable.

Yes I bet that is the reason
Iosu
Still this is really bad and mostley booring!
I want an tv-out. How else am I suppose to play
emulatorgames on a tv or just bring my phone to a friend
and watch a move I have brought with me?
If Im supposed to have a DLNA-box with me I could just as well
bring my DVD or blueray player (even tough the HTC DLNA-box is small)
DLAN is the reason why
its all wireless, HTC also reviled a box for DLAN adaption if you computer does not have it built in.
i think its got it pro and its cons
the pro is its wireless the cons is that you would have to bring the box with you if you went to a friends house
Well, I hope they will eventually announce a HDMI adapter. DLNA is no way a replacement for the HDMI out. It is able to play multimedia, but cloning/redirecting the Android UI is a no go with DLNA. Stupid move from HTC
DLNA is a Very CLEVER SMART Move from HTC Not for kids though.
Enjoy the future of wireless. How do you think you will lay on coach and play movie from the phone ? 3 Meters long cable ??! That is a no-no!
Instead of blaming HTC just "think again", like National Geographic channel says.
but you dont have to have one or another, do you? And besides how many people have DNLA TVs in comparison to those with HDMI TVs?
By next year the Desire HD will be replaced with a new generation of phones, so there's really no point having early adoptions of technologies which arent already widespread before the device becomes obsolete.
Its a shame, I'd consider replacing my HD2 with a desire HD because of the improved performance and power consumption, but the lack of HDMI out (which was an attraction of the EVO4G) makes it a less attractive upgrade.

cap still not fixed on Evo??
this basically stopped me getting the phone.
t-mobile... upgrade waiting... desire hd coming to t-mobile... but screw it ill just get my mum a new phone and stay with my hd2
why? cos they didnt wanna put hdmi...
i dont want a wireless box, or to use a wireless standard nobody has.
i just want to plug in an hdmi cable and see whatever it on my screen on the tv as well. like most normal people want.
htc knows this is a very good feature, so obviously they will not put it in a phone that they think can sell without it.
htc seem to have a bit of a problem with hitting the right spot. they dont realise that making the ultimate phone will NOT cut into their own sales, but would rather encourage people with similar phones to upgrade again. selling their old phones (hd2 in my case) to someone else (also beneficial as increases htc market share) and also those many people that want a smartphone but have gone with other brands. so many people would switch from samsung, nokia, sony ericsson, iphone etc giving short term AND long term benefits for themselves (and us)
remember the crap we had to take before we got a damn 3.5mm headphone socket back lol.
htc's policies of feature rotation and staggering is the real cause of htc sales eating into themselves

Well, the EVO cap is fixed now.
What remains is... a mystery, that why HTC decided to skimp on that ONE dollar HDMI out part
BTW I prefer the plastic casing of the EVO over metal casing of the dHD. Less prone to scratches, lighter (the casing is lighter, not the actual device with the 4G radio), and plastic never interferes with antennae.
The dHD is super-expensive compared to the EVO (and the HD2). I am inclined to get a HD2 (w/ Android) instead of the dHD.

If you can get that setup for $1600, I'd be impressed. Nice business solution if you ask me...
it won't sell, because its a proprietary dock, for one phone only.
needs to be a STANDARD wireless charging base (mac mini sized) with vga/sound/mic/hdmi/etc out the back, so regular peripherals can be used. large enough to charge 2-3 phones at once, is a good idea too.
dlna to dock, hdmi/vga to screen, etc
now, as far as convincing people to buy windows 8, I have no idea how.

You want a Dock with a wireless charging base, VGA/HDMI, Audio in out all coming out of the dock. designed around all phones and indeed work with multiple phones at the same time.
So we can explain audio with Bluetooth, and DNLA with wifi but how my friend, do you explain your VGA/HDMI out? how do you charge it if your don't have a inductive phone? or do you want all phones to have inductive charging wireless VGA and HDMI output as well?
the concept of a docking station for a specific phone is a tried and tested model and is routinely used on laptops and tablets, these devices are far from "universal" one can argue that there has never been a universal docking station, simply because there are far too many designs and technologies to take in to account. The beloved Apple are the worst for this, buy any ipod dock and youll find as many adaptors and connectors stuffed in to the box to "make" it compatible as there are iphone covers in cheap arse phone stores.
I think the idea of having a phone that's so powerful that can be plugged in to a tablet case, laptop case, home entertainment system is a great concept, itll never happen but if a unified connectivity model could be made up then even better, the problem with such things is space, yes you can transmit HDMI wirelessly, but its heavy on juice consumption, far heavier than what induction charging can deliver.
I see what your saying and that would be ideal but practicalities will prohibit a universal dock, a set of docks available for your specific phone however is a great idea and one id sign up to.
As the article says, it is not going to be a 'stand alone' phone, but part of a 'hub' system. So it doesn't need to have a 'standard' docking or wireless charging system...
I think it's an interesting idea. Let's see if i-Mate pull this off!!!

you know the answers to the questiions already... if the phone isn't inductive charge capable, well, it misses out. (I screwed up suggesting vga out, yes)
is the dock to be tossed out when the next phone is released, or microsoft abandons the current os, forcing hardware upgrades ?

ya, that was part of my point. the docking system is physically bound to only one phone model. a change of phones means the dock is obsolete. that's why I suggested a inductive version instead.
Re: Docks. You can do a lot with mini-displayport and micro-usb, which should fit on a superpowered phone. Or thunderbolt would work as a universal connector - thunderbolt out to a dock.
But what is more interesting to me is having a full windows OS on a phone. Windows Phone 8 still has a lot of core features missing, while Windows 8 does not have these gaps. Just add phone and messaging capability to Windows 8 and you will have an excellent OS for power users.
Hopefully there will be more of these phones when Intel finally moves Atom to 22nm later this year.

yesssss, that's what wp7/8 were supposed to do: bridge the gaps, the pc/phone in one.
but, now you have wp, surface/rt, w8 and their versions also. fragmentation, not integration.
oh, and xbox... office... very odd way of doing things.

Hi. I don't have a checkbox to turn the shutter sound off. I know my old Windows 7 phone had the option, but nothing on this one.
I'd love to turn it off because the default sound is horrible.
