can anyone shed any light on a very annoying problem i have setting up the email on my hd2. i have checked and double checked my passwords to ensure correct POP and SMTP inward and outward settings and they are correct but it seems there are 2 different routes i can take to enter this info and one of them always seems to have overwritten my password and replaced itself with something very long (but as they are '*' I havn't a clue what characters they are or why they are appearing when time after time I have deleted them and entered the correct one.
what in the blazers is going on? I'm clue less
thanks in anticipation of any replies
very much appreciated

Hi,
Im having problems connecting to Outlook web access, using a V1640.
Basically i can log in and view emails, but i cant send them. I have recently upgraded from an O2 xda that worked fine.
Does anybody have any idea what could be the problem?
Thanks in advance.
If this Vodafone nr. is the same as my VDA-IV (HTC Universal from Vodafone) then this is an answer to your question, though not a big help I think.
Had the same problem with 2 of my 3 mail-addresses I'd like to check.
1st, gmail.com was solved when I entered that the outgoing server needs authentication (go to options in the 4th screen of setting up an account) (2nd screen of options), tagged the "use seperate settings" button and gave the same settings in the outgoing server as I had for the incoming, except for the Require SSL, this one is needed for gmail
2nd, same like above, except they did not need the SSL, so no double settings needed, they needed the authentication though
3rd mail is having the same problems You have. No settings I can think of solved the problem, sorry.
Hope it helped a little

Hey guys, I have a softbank phone with the Black 2.0 ROM on it. I've been able to receive emails, but I'm not able to send them from the phone. My email account is through roadrunner, and I have the proper pop-server/smtp-server settings on the phone, but I keep getting an error saying "550 5.7.1 <email address I was sending it to> Relaying denied"
Has anyone else had this issue before? Anyone have any clue as to what it is I am doing wrong? I'm on the T-Mobile network and I have GPRS setup correctly and I am able to go on websites. So I don't think it's because I'm not getting a connection, but something else. Any help on this is greatly apprecaited guys, thanks
Sounds like an SMTP authentication issue. See if you can find the Tmobile SMTP server and set it to send through that, which should work as you are on a Tmobile connection (asuming your forum details are still correct)
Failing that check with roadrunner to see what authentication you need set up to use their SMTP server. I use Googlemail and you have to have SSL authentication set up with your username and password to be able to send through their server.
AAhhh....thats right, I had to do the same thing with the email app on my previous Sony ericsson M600i. Thanks for the reply and the help, I appreciate it
Hi guys,
Im having a frustrating time trying to get my outlook to send email. I can receive just fine.
Just a note, my computer sends/receives fine and i use the same settings on computer and phone. I never user activsync because ive never been able to get the linux version to work for me.
My server requires authentication however i get this error when i try to send: "The message(s) could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage
and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again."
If i uncheck the option for authentication, the email bounces as it should saying relay is not allowed.
Im using the same settings as my computer, but I just dont see whats wrong. Im a linux user and built my webserver so i feel like i should be able to figure this out which leads me to thing outlook sucks lol
Any suggestions to try?
James
In 'Edit Server Settings' where it has your User name, Password, and Domain how do you have that set up? when i first did mine i set it up with all three, but it didn't work, and what worked for me was setting the username to be [email protected] leaving the Domain field blank -- so that is something to look into, and if it is different maybe try setting it up the other way just putting your email as the username and the domain in the domain field.
How do i find 'Edit Server Settings'?
In my inbox, i click the Menu button bottom right, click tools and options. then i click on the email account i created, which sends me through all the email settings in the following order.
Note: i never used Outlook email as it never let me specify pop or imap so i added New Account.
Email address -- [email protected]
Your name - james
Account display name -- greyed out
incoming server name lwp.ca
account type -- greyed out (its set to imap)
username -- [email protected]
password
outgoing smtp server: lwp.ca
requires authentication checked
use same user name and password for sending mails checked
Automatic send/receive -- set to manual
download messages set to from the past 30 days
message format : html
message download limit: headers only
download attachments: do not download
I am having the same problem with Alltel PPC6800 and I found out (by tethering with my PC) that some of their IP addresses are listed with Spamhaus.
If I keep trying it will eventually go through when the IP Address switches to one not listed.
Hope it helps?

sorry when you said you use outlook to send i assumed you were using an exchange server -- since you are using IMAP what i said is irrelevant.
When you are at the point where it asks for the outgoing SMTP server, there is a link to 'Advanced Server Settings' at the bottom of the screen. clicking on that will allow you to require SSL for incoming and outgoing -- that would be my only other guess.
but i do find it strange that your incoming and outgoing mail servers are the same and not IMAP.lwp.com and SMTP.lwp.com or something similar.
This is my 4 th HTC, always used a gmail account.
Used the same setting as my diamond on the HD, but still asking for a username when trying to connect.
problem in orginal rom, flashed dutty's, still my gmail account wont work.
What am i missing here
I have a gmail account and the HD set this up automatically.
Looking at the account settings I have:
Incoming server: imap.gmail.com
Account type: IMAP4
Outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com
Any use to you?
Yep have the same, very strange. Wont work, keep asking for a another username/ww

Sorry, can't help any more - try deleting the account and setting it up again (Sorry!)
k, thx for your help.
still searching, did a hard reset, made a new account, still no go.
My gmail account works normally. I have the spanish original rom.
I'll try to write all my settings. Maybe the name of the fields are different in english, but I think will be easy to understand.
- email: [email protected]
- Name: Any. Account name: any.
- Incoming server: pop.gmail.com Account type: imap4 (yes, the server is pop, and the account type is imap. Don't ask me, the HD configured these settings automatically).
- User name: [email protected] Pass: yours
- outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com. CHECK "outgoing server requires authentication" and "same username and password for sent".
- Advanced server configuration: UNCHECK SSL connection in both incoming and outgoing mail. Select appropiate connection.
- The remaining configuration don't matter.
Hope it helps.
Regards.
Nacho.
tried >> chanced incoming to pop, and unchecked the ssl. That where the only 2 thing different to my old setting. Stil asking for a different username/ww
No! Gmail requires SSL. Follow the instructions here
https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78886
It will ask for your password also if you mistyped anything in the settings, check that.

Did this already several times, again did it on the diamond. Working great.
The HD with the same as above in link gmail wont work.
cant be the gmailaccount settings, they are right, must be something else.
btw im happy with the fast responce you are all giving thx
Wierd,
My HD just asked for username and set everything up automatically for me.
I think that was on the original ROM and I have used SPB Backup to restore everything after flashing to Dutty's ROMS.
Paul.
Gmail issue
Also on my touch hd ( i change rom very frequently and so i set my gmail account different times)
i use EVERYTIME the same auto-settings, some times it makes the synch of the emails and sometimes it "seems" to work but nothing happens
the only way to solve the issue i found is to re-set the account, or to change rom

Gmail Password Weirdness
I have all the settings put in correctly.. what is happening is that Im inputting my gmail password in the account settings, then continuing saving everything, click on "send/recieve" and get the "cannot connect" error.
I go back and check my settings and my password has changed! I know this because my password length is ******* but when I go back to check the settings its always *********************
For some reason its just NOT saving the password as it should and its driving me bonkers!
Could someone please enlighten me as to what to do?

Hi there,
I had the EMAIL working ok until Virgin updated their EMAIL setup a couple of months back, but now I seem to be having trouble whatever I try (keeps int deleting EMAIL's + having problems sending/receiving sometimes).
Thanks, Mark.
Check your settings:
Your Name
Your name as you would like it to appear to others when you send them an e-mail. We recommend entering your real name, although any name can be used.
E-mail address
Your Virgin Media e-mail address. Remember that the part after the @ symbol should correspond to your type of account, e.g., [email protected].
Account Type
POP3
Incoming mail server
pop3.virginmedia.com
Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
smtp.virginmedia.com
User Name
Use entire e-mail address.
e.g., [email protected]
Password
Enter the password for your e-mail account. If you don't know the password for your account you can reset it using the forgotten password tool in My Virgin Media.
Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)
Unticked/No
Thanks for that,
Is that an updated version (since they changed things a couple of months back) or working setups off your phone?
Also I had an O2 address (mail.o2.co.uk) on the outgoing server, as I had trouble sending in the 1st place and this cures things?
Also should the setup be the same for @virginmedia.co.uk addresses as @ntlworld.co.uk ones?
Cheers.

Dude just got to the virgin media website and have a look at the email help page. It's really not that difficult.

I know - I've done that in the past and with the settings they give it would only let you receive EMAIL's and not send them.
I'm not sure if the settings on there are just for mobiles on the Virgin network?
I wanted to be able to send/receive EMAIL's with O2.
I would have looked on the Virgin site myself if I had not tried them in the past and not bothered people on here.
That's the reason that I had to use the mail.o2.co.uk address for the outgoing server before (as it would not send EMAIL's from the settings they supplied on Virgin's site).
Nope - just tried the settings supplied for the NTLWorld EMAIL address on the Virgin site and they still don't work Dude (saying to check my account information when sending/receiving).
Mark.

If i remember correctly to send now you have to use ssl encryption on the smtp connection and specify the same log in details as for the incoming pop connection (the smtp servers are no longer open). The reason for this is that when it was ntl/blueyonder the smtp servers would only respond to certain ip address' so any further security was not needed.
Nope - just tried the settings supplied for the NTLWorld EMAIL address on the Virgin site and they still don't work Dude (saying to check my account information).

i just read the latest post. The ip restriction may still be enabled so you may be screwed.
Ok - thanks for that.
Mark.
if you are using a data connection then set it to mail.o2.co.uk and make sure the connction is using o2 mobile
if you are using wifi at home thru the VM connection then you can use smtp.ntlworld.com
I had the same problem when Virgin introduced there "improved" email and this is how I solved it....
!!!!!! NOTE: REQUIRES A GOOGLE (gmail) ACCOUNT FOR THIS TO WORK !!!!!!!!!!
Create your account along the lines of -
Email Address - [email protected]
Name - Fred Bloggs
Account Display Name - Ntlworld
Incoming mail server - [email protected]
Account type - IMAP4
User Name - [email protected]
Password - *****
Save Password - YES
Outgoing (SMTP) mail server - smtp.gmail.com
Outgoing mail server requires authentication - YES
Use the same user name/password for sending email - NO
Outgoing Server login - [email protected]
Password - *****
Save password - YES
You then then tailor the size/frequency of the messages to your choice.
Regards,
Alan

Sorry, but just checking - you have to setup a GMail account for this to work - I was wondering when you send somebody a message if it shows as from the NTL World EMAIL address or the GMail one?
Cheers, Mark.
Hi there,
Thanks for all the replies - I think I may have sussed it now with a combination of peoples replies and also using O2's server for the outgoing mail.
I can now send/receive + also delete EMAIL's off the server so they don't come through on my PC once I have deleted and done a send/receive on the phone.
Cheers, Mark.
I was also wondering about the IMAP4 setting on the mobile - does this mean that everything on the server is also stored on the phone as well, so you have old EMAIL's on your phone as well?
Does this slow the HD2 down, as it would be handy to have some of the older EMAIL's in folders on the phone.
It sends it from the gmail address.... All I have got in my folders is the stuff in my inbox... BTW what settings did you end up using for both the outgoing and sending?
Regards,
Alan
Hi there,
I got these settings E-Mailed from Virgin in the end (like the ones posted by somebody else earlier, but with info on the SSL + ports etc (not that I think you can setup the ports on the HD2).
It seems to work all ok now with even being able to delete messages off the server as well.
Cheers, Mark.
Thanks for getting in touch with the Virgin Media Support team.
The details for your email account settings are below.
Incoming Mail Server - pop3.virginmedia.com
Outgoing Mail Server- smtp.virginmedia.com
Username - Full email address including @ntlworld.com
Password - Your email password
Outgoing server requires authentication - Yes
Incoming Server Port - 995
SSL Required - Yes
Outgoing Server Port - 465
SSL Required - Yes
If you are going to be receiving emails to more than one device you will
need to use 'Recent' mode in order to facilitate this. To do this simply
add 'recent:' to the start of the username in your account settings on
your email client so if your username was '[email protected]' it
would become 'recent:[email protected]'.
