Vodafone V1640 - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi,
Im having problems connecting to Outlook web access, using a V1640.
Basically i can log in and view emails, but i cant send them. I have recently upgraded from an O2 xda that worked fine.
Does anybody have any idea what could be the problem?
Thanks in advance.

If this Vodafone nr. is the same as my VDA-IV (HTC Universal from Vodafone) then this is an answer to your question, though not a big help I think.
Had the same problem with 2 of my 3 mail-addresses I'd like to check.
1st, gmail.com was solved when I entered that the outgoing server needs authentication (go to options in the 4th screen of setting up an account) (2nd screen of options), tagged the "use seperate settings" button and gave the same settings in the outgoing server as I had for the incoming, except for the Require SSL, this one is needed for gmail
2nd, same like above, except they did not need the SSL, so no double settings needed, they needed the authentication though
3rd mail is having the same problems You have. No settings I can think of solved the problem, sorry.
Hope it helped a little

Hi from a newbie and a request for email help

Hi all,
Great site you have here. Read up lots of interesting information before deciding to buy the XDA Mini S recently.
I'm very happy with the handset for the most part and have got it all set-up and used Active Synch successfully but for the life of me I cannot set-up the email. I have input all my details including POP3 info and such like but when I press send/receive it says its connecting - activates O2 Active in the GPRS session - then says finished, but without sending the message in the outbox or getting any new ones!
Anyone able to help as its driving me mad.
Hopefully installing Tomtom (when I get it) won't prove this difficult!
Many thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.
Cheers
Guy
make sure that you have set the GPRS connection to your ISP
Hello
I am in hong kong. I had that experience before. I checked the email setting. Then, in server info page, tap option. You will then see option (1/3) make sure to choose the connection to your ISP GPRS. Tap next, tick outgoing server. Tap next --> done.
OK?
Hi,
Thanks for the reply but I don't think that has made any difference.
If it helps I have a btconnect.com email address and am using Outlook 200 on my PC.
Thanks
Guy

Can't send Yahoo email from my O2 device

Hi Gurus,
I have a major problem and am tearing my hair out. I've searched this forum as much as I can, and followed as many instructions as possible, but am still no closer to resolving.
I have an Orange SPV M600, which I've unlocked and have out an O2 online sim only in it - all fine so far.
I have deleted all gprs/wap setings for orange
I have set up O2 gprs settings as per the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=265647 - just the gprs and MMS part though (not wap) submitted by s_h_a_h_i_d (many thanks for your info).
I've then gone to messaging, and have attempted to get my UK yahoo mail coming down to the phone. I can receive everything, but whenever I try and send email from the account, i get the "Mesages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your email account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again". I let the phone get the settings from yahoo, and everywhere I've looked, the settings are definitely pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk and smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk with a blank domain.
Someone please help. This is insane
TIA

very normal, not your machine problem. If you know which ISP are you connecting to by WIFI, use the smtp server of that ISP. It will be okay.
If you're using a GPRS connection then you need to change the outgoing server to smtp.o2.co.uk
thanks for the reply guys. smtp.O2.co.uk worked. Happy holiday season

Email setting on dual touch

I can not use any of my email accounts (gamail, yahoo) on my phone,
when I press send/recive appears message:
cannot connet with current cooneting setting, if you want to change go on connection settings
but my internet (Explorer or Opera) is working perfectly
if anyone have a clue please save me
Did you set up the incoming/outgoing servers manually?
I'm not sure if it's the case but I registered at izymail.com and then used the izymail servers and it works a charm.
How about you try that?
E-Mail issue to be solved!
What providers (GSM and mail) do you use?
I do have the same problem and several others posted exactly this issue in several other threads.
This definitely is a problem which hasn't been solved.
Isn't there a charming developer out there who knows how to solve this
By the way, recommending to change the e-mail provider does not really help and obviously not solve the issue!
Did you choose a connection in Email setup? My Dual asks me which connection (internet, business, vpn etc.) to use. It's in the window for smtp server under advanced options. There you can select the correct setting. Maybe you have the wrong in there.
Cheers, Dennis
Maybe there's a proxy set in your 3g connection. I have vodafone and is automatically setups a proxy, which causes email and live messenger problems. Just disabling the proxy in connection settings worked for me.
No Proxy
I figured something strange out. If I disconnect the 3G connection in the Comm manager, then press send/receive the device once connects with the e-mail server and even downloads the headers. As soon as I want to download an e-mail I get the same message again: "Could not connect to server, check your inbox account login-information"!
That drives me insane! If I disconnect again from 3G and then press send/receive it works again - JUST ONCE.
It's the same for POP or IMAP.
Would be nice if somebody could help out.
Thanks in adavance
I have had exactly the same problem since I installed the Mary 6 ROM on my touch dual and have the problem with two different email accounts so It's definitely not an issue with those settings.
When you install the new ROM it auto detects your network (I'm on T- mobile UK) and sets up all of the connections automatically so I'm guess the problem lies there.
Does anyone know where I can verify that these settings are correct?

I had the same problem on t-mobile uk after flashing the new official 6.1 rom.
I solved it by disabling the proxy server START-SETTINGS-CONNECTIONS-CONNECTIONS-MANAGE EXISTING CONNECTIONS-PROXY SETTINGS. Internet access still works I also did a hard reset after flashing the rom, but that may not be relevant.

Help, really annoying problem!

Hi
Hoping someone can help me!
My Touch HD has been working fine up until yesterday, and now for some reason it is no longer sending emails. I know the settings are right because it was working fine until yesterday.
I have done a hard reset, and installed an alternative ROM but still no luck. My email server itself is working fine.
Any ideas please, it's driving me mad!
Thanks in advance.
Ben.
Anyone help!
Ben,
You'll have to give us a little more to go on.
Who is your Mail Provider?
What error are you getting?
Anything else that might help.
Paul.

Also are synchornising your mail by using WiFi or 3G
Provide Sreenshots if you can
Hi - I'm having a similar problem on my Touch HD. I have a POP email account set up which connects and downloads emails absolutely fine when I'm on Wifi or connected via Activesync. However when I am on a data connection (i.e. GPRS, 3G, etc) it comes up with an "synchronisation error", and suggests I edit my connection settings. The data connections works for everything else, including web browsing and other applications that require it. Its almost as if the mail application isn't being allowed access to the data connection unless its over wifi.

Check your service provider.
I had this problem once and they were "playing" with the POP access over GPRS.
I would give them a quick call.

Yup, sounds like I am having the same problem as DaveHodgkinson.
Can download emails fine, can access the internet fine. Just can't send emails. I know all my settings are correct as they were working fine previously, plus I can send/receive via Outlook and webmail absolutely fine. I have a QIQ hosting package with my own domain that I use for email.
I have read about other people having this same error on their WinMo devices, but have not been able to find a working solution for it.
The error message I get is "the message could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. The try sending again".
Well I do have network coverage, and the account information is correct, so what next!!
This fault renders a major function of the phone unusable.
I doubt this is a "fault".
I'll bet your mobile provider is blocking port 25 making everything else not matter.
Get a telnet client and make sure you can telnet to your mail server on port 25.
Use your wireless providers SMTP server.

From searching google this problem appears to be too widespread to be operator specific. I have tried an alternate port and that also fails. I am on o2.
anybody anymore ideas?
Planetgong,
If you are on O2 UK, this worked for me:
If you can't get your own email providers SMTP settings to work then you can use O2 settings for sending email (while keeping your own email provider for incoming email). To do this your main email settings should look like this...
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Host Name: smtp.o2.co.uk
User Name: [email protected]
Password: youro2password
Your Advanced settings should look like this...
Outgoing Settings
Use SSL: Off
Authentication: Password
Server Port: 25
If you can't remember your O2 username and password (you will have registered this when you activated your phone) then just register another one at www.o2.co.uk (the 'Register' link is near the top left corner).
Hi
Thanks for the reply. I've just tried that but get the same error message. Can you tell me where I can find the advanced settings?
Planetgong,
Assuming you can log onto your o2 mail box on your PC/laptop. And sign out again.
Go through email setup, my outgoing mail server is smtp.o2.co.uk, tick outgoing server requires authentication, untick use the same name and password. Under "advanced server settings" (at bottom of screen) have both boxes unticked. Make network connection O2 active (not The Internet).
done and next.
Enter O2 user name and password
continue to end of setup.
Then try it!!
Hi
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately this still didn't work. It is like my Touch HD has suddenly decided to stop all outgoing SMTP connections. I have tried so many different things now and it still isn't working!
Just found this :

Although the problem is supposed to be solved on the version of Windows Mobile on the Touch HD, it clearly isn't! Cheers Microsoft.
Not sure what to do now. Don't see why I should accept a phone that all the features don't work on?
I've also got the .cab fix installed linked to by the traceyandmatt site.

hi,
disable your proxy. that might help
goto settings, tab connections, then select connections
next select 'setup my proxy'. go to tab 'proxy server' and uncheck 'this network uses a proxy server'

Proxy is unchecked, still no access. Can I return the phone on the basis it isn't able to perform all the functions it is supposed to?

T-Mobile IMAP sync issue!

Have setup my HD2 on t-mobile using the automated wizard, i can browse the internet fine using opera, but each time i want to check my IMAP account i get the following message: "Cannot connect with current settings".
If i switch to WiFi it works perfectly, so my email settings are correct. And my internet settings on 3G are correct as i can browse the internet, but for some reason i cant download email over IMAP. Is anybody else having similar issues?
Nb. I'm in the UK.
thanks.
Try turning off the proxy server in connection settings.
Thanks that worked a treat, so much for auto-configuration
sorry if I post it here, but I have an issue with my web.de imap account, wich is that it only shows me messages back till wednesday when I got my phone and set up the account. all messages prior to that date are not shown. neither in my trash, nor in any other folder. and I accidentally deleted a message and it is still there according to my web.de account, but my hd2 doesn't show the message anymore. is there something wrong with the way the hd2 flags messages in imap?
i actually rang up TMobile technical support to ask them what the proxy was for and why it is added in the auto config settings. they had no idea. they could only tell me what it was supposed to be, not why.
Seems like most programs prefer not having the TMobile proxy set.
Maybe there isn't any proxy necessary and it's a problem with the htc mail app itself. see my case above, that's surely not web.de problem but something wrong with the htc mail app. but I can't figure out what and why.
