Hey Folks,
first of all, I like those new ROMs with Manila2D very much. Interface looks nice and is really good to use.
The thing that makes me think about going back to non-Manila ROM is the excessive RAM usage ... with Syrius R1 e.g. I got max. 35mb of free RAM directly after Installation. Compared to a udK Diamond R8 which I used for quiet a while ... running SPB Mobile Shell 2.1.2 + Cube and several other installed apps, gave me 45mb+ free RAM.
What's your RAM usage like with Manila2D? I don't know if it's in any way worth sacrificing 10MB+ of RAM just for the nice looks .... though anyway Mobile Shell looks very nice too, and has like thousands of Skins and mods available.
boba
Well thats the trade off you get. Manila 2d isnt THAT RAM intensive. So its up to you wether you use it or not.
I think Manila is GREAT and im more than happy to sacrifice ram. Nothing else compares to Manila.
If you want just a skin and cut down on Ram usage a little bit, try loading on Vito's Winterface or iFonz.
Other than that, just dont use Manila.
No answer to your question, just a other question of me.
Do you need the extra free program memory?
I never have a shortage in memory. I never checked the amout of free memory until I saw your post. I have 23 MB free program memory with a lot of programs active. I noticed there is only a total of 84 MB of program memory. I thought it should be 128 MB? As stated before, I never have any issues with a lack of memory.
Different ROMs have different amounts of free RAM available. There is a certain amount that can be reserved for other things, such as pagepool I believe, that take away from the total program memory available. This even happened in the wm6.1 official ROM, max memory available dropped.

If you want max free memory out of the ROM, like me try Bepe 0.67 rom. I disable the Biotouch.exe (a simple trick by renaming activesynkiller.exe to Biotouch.exe) And install Manila2D on my own -> use the beta 18 version.
And on fresh restart, I get 69MB free memory. After hours of usage, I still get 60MB free memory.
No answer but another question
IGO 6 & 8 not working while Manila is active, must disable the Manila and reset to launch IGO
if I minimize IGO and start Manila and return back to IGO it working with no problem
is it another memory problem or what ???
I just got a replacement Elf from Orange & it has two new 'touch' keyboards in the 'messaging' app, that my previous one did not have.
The OS is 5.2.1620 & build is 18125.0.4.2. Is this something new ?
Cheers
sorry to reply to my own thread.
This phone appears to be a lot more responsive to 'touch' & even Win 6 seems reasonably fast.
It's Elfin a.k.a. Touch XL. It has got 128 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM, new touch keyboards and sometimes few other improvements like Media Streaming app etc.
Thanks for that.
Very strange, as this is definitely an Elf0100 - says so in the system section - also is the lower memory version, only 64mb ram & 128mb rom. But appears to have a system change from my previous ( stolen ) Elf.
I quite like the extra keyboards. Easy to use.
Elfin identifies as Elf0100 too, but if it has got 64 MB RAM it's not Elfin. So maybe it's one of new WM 6.1 Elfs? There is no official HTC ROM, but there are few made for mobile operators. Check OS version in Settings -> |System| -> About and tell us
The OS is 5.2.1620 & build is 18125.0.4.2.
White Orange (jan 2009) elf/elvin?
hTC
CE OS 5.2.1623 (build 18129.0.4.5) - - memory 107Mb ?????

Good evening!
I am currently using a iGO8 navigation system on my HTC Diamond and often get crashes because of the lack of enough memory. So I thought of the following solution:
Wouldn't it be possible to create a multiboot menu which shows up when booting the Diamond, just before the Explorer.exe loads, which lets me choose between booting the normal Windows Mobile GUI or the iGO application (or whatever application I want to)?
I think iGO won't need Windows Mobile to run as it runs on PNA's which are basically just Windows CE systems, and those don't run any Explorer application unless you force them to do so.
I think this can be made possible by changing the INIT entry for Explorer.exe to any other application (the menu) in the registry.
Would that be possible?
-- twofive
the PNA/ gps menu its an application for Windows CE. it loads after windows ce has been loaded. It goes in full screen, without an exit button. so basicaly when the gps menu is loaded all other necesary wince files are loaded (except maybe explorer.exe, witch can load in 1sec with taskman command.). Also wince loading takes about 5 seconds and win6.1 about 1min. As i know win6.1 does not have explorer.exe. insteed i think is nk.exe witch is the os. so without os igo wont work.
Isn't there any way we can skip the Windows Mobile GUI and directly start iGO?
Also, I don't think all neccessary files are loaded AFTER iGO was started. I think they are loaded before as the last INIT entry is the navigation software.
I don't know if Windows CE has some kind of regsvr32.exe or something similar.

I don't think it's possible. But I do know a solution - you should find a ROM with maximum RAM available to user.
I have one (Gen.Y) but I just install to much stuff onto my diamond and therefore the free memory is smashed

I think that you are confusing ROM (storage memory) & RAM (program memory). Program memory is what you need for flawless iGo performance. Try, for example, latest official HTC ROM, it should be better for RAM than most of the cooked ROMs.
I know the difference
It's just that I am running too much applications in the background (WisBar Advance, TouchResponse, Palringo and what not all) so that the free RAM is just smashed
Well, I guess I have to clean up a bit.
Thanks anyway

In that case, I have a definitive solution - you should by Raphael, like me. I'm able to run at the same time Garmin, iGo, Opera Mini, Opera Mobile, DotFred TaskMgr and much much more, and have absolutely no problems.
Hi there!
I am new to TG01 but i have a few obseravtions. After flashing some cooked roms i see that WM6.5.5 is slower in certain situations that original 6.5.
Especially I mean start composing new sms message from shorcut "Compose" in WM Titanium. In 6.5 it is very quick, but 6.5.5 it takes some time to open "new sms" window. Also I think that scrolling start menu is a little more laggy in 6.5.5. Has somoene noticed these facts?
Besides I have small question. Is 6.5.5 capable of rearranging icons in start menu using drag&drop? Unfortunately I have not succeded to do it.
To move items in the start menu, touch an item and hold it till it "lifts" then drag and drop.
Never noticed much speed difference between 6.5 and 6.5.5, but then i wasn't looking that hard.

I second that.
However, after your post, I have tested the speeds on both systems. I think it majorly depends on what rom you are using. Stonrom, AragOn's rom and ffBoy's rom - are fine. They don't give any lags. So is Novembre and Nokser's roms. I am not sure if 6.5.5 (non-cooked rom) is better. But I am so far impressed with cooked 6.5.5s for TG01. Especially the once that have Sense cooked in as well.
Cheers!
D
Yesterday i noticed that after 2 days, my memory went down to 33 MB, with no application running:/ I am using clearRam app, but it does no thelp with memory leak. I think I will install 6.5 instead...
i think a lot of it is perception... when the phone was box fresh new i didn't really check on RAM figures & my perception of its performance...
.....but once i started downloading ROMs it suddenly becomes important to me..
i have a 6.5.5 ROM (doesn't matter who's) & i've seen some terrible RAM values within system settings
that said the system has always soildered on merrily away as if nothing was amiss
i also have a hd2 that (as u prob know) has 448 of installed RAM (vs 214 on the Tosh?)
i've never used all that HD2 RAM up in normal use... but i've seen it run loads slower than the TG01 whist doing comparitive tasks...
This is a good idea for a thread

I second that! TG01 gave me way faster speeds on custom/cooked roms than HD2.
But I am sure that 6.5 was faster!!! It was like a lighting! I must check cooked 6.5. Maybe it is 6.5.5 core that is slower? Maybe this is due to diffirent pagepool size?

Why don't you try a benchmark to prove your feeling? SK tools for instance. That would be very useful for all us
You are right, i will do it. But does it have test suitiable for this?
Hi there
I have done some benchmarks using SPB Benchmark and SK Tools. I will post it later but my conclusion is that 6.5 is faster in benchmarks. Also I googled a lot for results in this benchmarks for TG01 and HD2) and it seems like HD2 was much faster in benchmarks - especially in graphics using GDI.
May someone do some benchmarks too? Then we could compare our results.
I have recently installed spb + mobile sense and I see that it is quite laggy - especially in sliding homescreen (only from left/right to right/left !) and in calendar. Without mobile sense spb is working fast enough. Can somone confirm it? What i see is spb is using OpenGL only in carousel view - and in other cases using GDI which can be laggy for TG01. But how TG01 which is based on same proc as Hd2 can have different results? Not-opengl graphics processing is done by processor i think.
None have sktools or spb benchmark results?

Testing your ROM now Feropont
I seemed to have an error, when i flashed the phone and it goes to customize settings, says failed HTC Log error.
I cannot navigate the phone and it is freezing... I managed to get to the file explorere though to reflash it again. I think i may have had a bad flash.
I'll report back. many thanks
Reflashed the ROM ,working great now! i love all the mods, they are so profesional! Please could you upload the files fro teeter please? it is the only ROM that has all functional HTC apps! Alos free RAM is quite low after a while.
But great ROM!
How about ROM_Clone_Touch HD (Blackstone now)?
Haha that would be awesome! I can find you the pacakges if you want. It uses less RAM and ROM.
touchflo 1.3 + wm6.1
How about it?
Cheers!
cheers!

From RAM memory there is a common phenomenon, unlike other ROM in my ROM included in the work of all the services HTC, one Opera 9.5 eats a fairly large amount of RAM, not to mention the other services HTC. And yet I have RAM does not fall below 70 mb, remember the time a month ago, you were glad that the first load had 80 MB, but now that has changed, spoiled you kindly huge RAM memory I'm not a huge fanatic of memory, I'm concerned about the maximum functionality of the software otherwise I'm just not interested.
Thx my friend

Yeh it wont have that much memory as the htc dialer + htc services take up RAM. but i can manually disable them
or you could do a perfectly clean ROM, just pure 6.1 + touchflo 3d 1.3..
that would also be nice!
thanks feropont!

Who can explain to me what good is a free 150 MB of RAM? When the virtual memory in windows CE 5.2 as it was 32 MB and immutability. yes i am RAM addicted.. enough is never enough! i dont know why, but i always want more RAM when possible. its just my personal preference your the rom chef anyway, so your rom customizations are entirely up to you
