Problems with battery cover?

Anyone had problems with the battery cover? I took mine off when I first got it and when I tried to put it back, it only clipped into 3 corners, 1 was loose and slide on and off so was never flush.
I've sent it back to Mobilephonesdirect for them to "assess" and see if a replacement is needed. Bloody hope so, its faulty!

Nope, no problems here although i had to open & close the cover several times to reset the device.

Other than finding it the worst battery cover design ever made by HTC, no. I did notice that when putting it back on you put the right side in first and then snap it all down evenly, that it left one corner up and it simply needed a gentle push and it all went flush.
I am concerned about the long term use of the cover, it is difficult to get on and off at best and certainly not designed for ease of use.

The cover is metal but the phone it snaps onto is plastic....and the plastic contact points will wear, that's if the metal battery cover itself doesn't relax its shape a little and get less tight. It seems a bad solution to me but HTC aren't alone in this, I see that battery covers are becoming cheaper and nastier across all brands. At least the HTC cover is metal. I try not to remove my cover...ever.

Yeah, it's a little tight for my liking, if you swap out the sim or memory card a lot it could cause problems. Second battery too.
Hopefully the back case will be available to buy somewhere. It must cost pennies to make.

Yeah, but they'll probably be available on eBay for about £25, despite that.

I thought I was doing something wrong when I could not budge mine.
On a new phone it takes quite a bit of brute force.

Yep, mine stays up on one corner too. Just a little nudge and its back on flush!

Technique is King
Everything requires a technique, then it becomes easy!.
Really all one needs to do is slide your thumbnail under the cover's edge; from one end to the other till there is a millimeter gap, then voila! simply pull off!
If you try to pull it off using the indented 'tab' then good luck to you, Frustration Guaranteed!

Unforyunately my phone already got stuck a couple of times and the only way to bring it to live again was removing the cover and soft reset or remove the battery.
A shame that the reset button is not reachable from the outside. It might be easy to make a small hole in the cover right above the reset button.

I had the same problem with the cover on mine. I found that I must have slightly bent the cover when i first removed it, when i bent it back (to make the fit a bit tighter) it never happend after that.

I will try not too. However if the phone locks up I'll have no choice but to remove the cover and press the red button.

ya i also think the battery cover is design in a wrong way
it took me awhite to open it...
u know i scare i open to hard will spoilt it

Some of the covers are a bit loose. Thank goodness the shop I bought it from, replaced mine for me.

Creaky plastic

Anyone else noticing how bad the plastic battery cover is on this phone? Everytime i hold it creaks. Doesnt make it feel like a quality device. Anyone else in the same boat of do i have a crappy back cover?

Not creaky here...nice tight fit

Mine fits great as well. No issues.

Ive taken the back cover off at least 20 times since the 8th. My phone feels solid, no creaky feel what so ever.

Same as with everyone else, my phone feels and sounds solid. No creaks here.

only if I really try to make it creak.

maybe you cover is not snapped on all the way??

Yea i think that im going to get another battery cover. Mine is creaky towards the bottom left. Almost like its not snapping together correctly. The main reason i returned the HTC Surround was for the creaky battery cover. It gave me nightmares because i dealt with a G1 for 2 years with that problem.

never had a creak but i would suggest getting a tight fit cover for the phone. Mine is red and black and the brand is case mate...awesome cover to protect my sweet ass phone!

I've noticed I get some creak in the top left corner above the camera, nothing major though since I never hold the phone by that corner.

I would say it's a faulty cover (return/exchange the phone) or it hasn't seated or snapped into place properly even though it looks like it's in place.
It is plastic and makes the phone super light weight.

I returned mine and got one back in which the cover is perfect.
Also, the screen is a bit brighter (same settings) and the audio sounds a bit better. I also ordered a screen protector and case (smoke plastic) which works great.
The phone is very impressive now.

Hidden Protective Plastic Wrap on Shift

In two other threads users have noticed the two small pieces of protective plastic wrap on either side of the keys on the slideout keyboard. They are easily to miss, but easily removabe; with a little tugging they come off in one piece.
However, I'm not sure if anyone has yet noticed the protective plastic wrap on the backside of the LCD. If you slide your keyboard out and turn the phone around, you will notice that the entire backside of the screen surface (where it reads "with Google") is covered in a large sheet of the same plastic. It also removes easily by peeling it back and tugging it out from under the keyboard surface.
Removing all of the plastic from the two articulating surfaces has made the sliding much smother for me.

ah yes, I remember something like this on the original droid... removing it made sliding much easier.

I had the keyboard ones off, didn't even notice the one on the back.

i didnt notice the one on the back til someone on the forum pointed it out to me...and yes it does make the slider easier but for me its now a little too easy...i kinda wish i never took off that covering i feel the phone open up in my pocket now sometimes its just too smooth....i usually prefer to keep my phone naked but i might have to get a case as i hear some people saying it made their slider a little more stiff

The case at first made my slider too stiff but after opening and closing it repeatedly it's eased up and is now nice and firm but not too stiff.

ha, I just found it earlier this week. I removed it and the keyboard ones, but my sliding did not seem to change.

Thanks for the tip.

I thought about removing mine, but I thought it might protect it better if I left them there. But on the other hand, it's so hard to slide open with my case on that I've used the keyboard once, lol.

I just took it off on my phone with my case and it has made it easier to slide. You should try it. It's not like it's protecting much. It's the back of the phone that is protected anyways when you don't have it slid open.

The first thing I did when I got my phone was take off this crap.

I noticed all three bits of plastic strips within a few minutes of playing with the phone. Taking them off definitely made the slider smoother. Especially the big one on the back of the phone screen.

I took them off my wife's phone and now you can hear it scrape when it slides open and closed. I'm going to leave mine on so I don't hear that plastic on plastic sound.

Weird cuz mine and my girlfriends literally do not touch the keyboard, so there is no way for that sound to be made.

Check and make sure it's not just some gunk in the track or something. The other day when opening and closing my keyboard to loosen up my case it started making this awful grinding noise and I was afraid I'd have to take it back. But after a lot of blowing in the tracks and digging around with a paperclip (Disclaimer: Don't dig around in you phone with a paperclip) whatever it was came out and I was back to smooth, quiet sliding perfection.

You know I didn't really look at it much until just now after reading this, thanks for making me look. The sound is the case scraping on the inside back. It started when I took that inside back cover off, kind of wish I hadn't.
If anyone is using a case, I suggest leaving that one on to help silence that knob of the case. At least until it wears down a little.

I've had my phone since the RadioShack early launch day, and those 3 plastic pieces came off about 5 minutes after I left the store.
So fast forward two weeks, and I think the slide out keyboard is too loose. It's been getting worse over time. Flicking through my home screens from left to right causes it to slide out ever so slightly. Very annoying.
I'm wondering if I should have left the plastic on. At least the big one on the back of the screen.
I'm going to order a hard case next week as it looks like a bonus feature is increased resistance on the sliding mechanism.

Never noticed that back plastic but after reading this thread I think I'm going to leave it on. I'm not having an issue with the slide and I would prefer to not have the slide as loose as others are reporting after removing it.

i left the 'back plastic' on my Mogul all the way until I was through with it about a year ltr...
Really wasn't an issue on the TP or TP2
I intend to do the same with the Shift though... the side plastic pieces on the keyboard will stay until they start peeling off, which will inevitably happen.

I've decided to leave all 3 of them on, more protection .

I removed all 3. It just doesn't feel as good using protection.

Nope, mine doesn't make any noise at all when I put pressure on it. Like eyecon said above, you sure it's on securely? If so, perhaps there's a defect with your back cover. But yeah, that's definitely not normal behavior.

Ya if it squeaks, I'd get it exchanged since it may not be closing and snapping in properly, thus negative the water resistant seal

no issues here, my battery door is strongly in place. But i do have some doubt about the rubber gasket in the back, if you guys want to take a look at my thread and post your findings it would be greatly appreciated

Mine does. I went to the store and asked for another to check on it and it did the same thing in the same location (in the middle of the power button side). I switched two covers on two phones and all combinations were with the exact same problem. Guess a bad batch or who knows what. It's driving me crazy . I'm waiting for my UAG case which I guess will cover up the issue.

Mine does. And it irritates me like anything. Going to the store to get it replaced.

I have try that in the store and my was fine, but try it on the spot, so you don't have to go back again

I have the same problem and the Samsung support mean to me, I must send my phone to the Samsung repair. They are crazy, I don't like to send the complete phone to change 1 back cover, next week I wend to the provider where I bought the phone and then I see, maybe they'll change the cover

Yup, have that too but it doesn`t bother me a bit. I use a flipcase or s-view case anyway.

My wireless charging back cover creaks like mad. Worse place are just below the power button and above the camera lens.

A phone that creaks bothers me a lot.

Today I started to notice this on my s5. It's mostly on the right side, but it can squeak a little if pressed in the middle. It's not something that is very audible but what worries me is if waterproofing is compromised or not.
Also, it's fully snapped on and o checked that multiple times
EDIT : Just noticed that pressing on the heart rate area, the case gives in a bit and has a small gap. I poured a bit of water on top of it to see if it would leak a lot of water (haven't used the phone on water or tested the waterproof before) and after i take out the case a bit of water entered through there. It wasn't much, but maybe if it was submerged in a bit more water it would leak more inside and i don't know if it would reach the battery or not. Is it normal for water to enter there? Or is there a problem in the case?
Also, in most all of the inserts the cover clicks when i put it back on, except on that right side that i mentioned. Funny enough, the water leak on the heart rate sensor is on the left side of it.

Anyone can tell me if this is "normal" or if i should take it to warranty? Is a back case even covered under warranty?

Mine creaks on the right side as well, and I made sure the case is fully snapped all around. And just like yours, in most all of the inserts the cover clicks when i put it back on, except on that right side. Its annoying at times, but I learned to ignore it most of the time. I wnot bother exchanging or returning. Had the phone for couple months now.

Its something that only a few people seem to experience because i haven't found many reports of it, only a few. Probably some batches of phones with a production problem or not so good quality control, i don't know =/ But i do know that all the clips are snapped on or at least look like it.
I actually contacted Samsung about it but got the generic and expected reply to take it to a repair center to analyse the phone - which i didn't. My main concern would be any problems with waterproofing, but i just putted on a case and don't think much about it now actually.

Back Cover Opened and is not firm

i bought this phone a week ago and after using it i realized some creaking sound in the middle of the back cover. so i viewed some threads and decided to open the back cover and see whats going on. i used my fingernail to open it and a credit card to snap it out. did it 3 times and came of like a charm and no crack sound or so. no i have installed it again and put it together from the bottom because i though its the best fit. now the creak sound is gone but i have a little(by little i mean really really little) gap between the back cover and the body. its on the two sides of the phone where there are antennas connecting to the back cover. its not a big one but when i press there it makes a little sound.i was wondering if i had damaged it or its because its opened and its something normal

all clips are snapped in but seems the back cover is not that precise in some areas

any help is highly appreciated!
