I'm sorry if this is old news, I'm new to Android.
Anyway, I was reading about the Nexus One and supposedly typing
*#*#checkin#*#* (*#*#2432546#*#*) on the keypad would "check in" with google servers and check for newest patches/updates, and
*#*#info#*#* (*#*#4636#*#*) would bring up a testing menu with various phone functions.
So i checked to see if it would work on the slide, and it did. So when the Froyo OTA is out, I'll be "checking in" every few minutes
Again, sorry if this is a stupid post.
interesting, i do this and it looks to be doing something but nothing every happens.
Wonder if it's cause I'm running the rooted rom.
No menu comes up or anything, but if you do it, look at your network satus (Where it says 3G, E, etc.) and it should show data is moving to and from the phone. This is the phone checking in with Google servers.

OK I'm not exactly a n00b when it comes to this kind of thing but I'm at a complete loss about what's going on with my 8525. Att's network in my area went down mon. and apparently not come back (so they tell me) but I have a hard time believing that.
That is not the issue however. the main problem is that when I go into connection settings nothing is displayed......at all. I go into connections it goes through the inspection then displays nothing.....that doesn't look good, but what's worse is that I go into the advance tab then select "select Networks" (was just playing around with stuff being bored)and both the drop down boxes are empty they are supposed to have stuff like "media-net" or "internet, work" but they both have nothing. I CAN DEAL WITH THAT. what I can't deal with is when I select "NEW" or "Edit" nothing happens.....nothing at all...Now THAT scares me. I need to know what to do
I guess it doesn't matter now. I just figured now would be a good time to unlock my phone and try out wm6.1 currently installing Shadow's 2.1 ROM
I searched and didn't find anything quite like what I am experiencing, so I'm making a new thread about it.
I got my G1 a few days after the release and up until about the 5th of this month I would always get a new mail notification within a few minutes of receiving a new mail in my gmail inbox. Sometime around the 5th it started taking significantly longer to get notifications (if at all). Around the same time I changed from the stock theme to Gloss Suite (not sure if I switched theme before or after the problem started...). Another thing that I had noticed was that my contacts would not sync at all; I kept receiving the error "Sync is currently not working. It will be back shortly." when trying to sync from the settings menu.
Prior to theme switch I had JF1.41 RC33, I moved to 1.42 RC33 for the Gloss Suite theme. I am now using haykuro's 5.0.2H build and am having the same issue with gmail notifications. Sometimes I get them within a minute (normal) and sometimes it takes hours (if I even get a notification without a manual refresh). Everything else on the phone seems to be working as it should be.
I am just curious if anyone else is having a similar problem, or if anyone knows what is/can be causing it. I may try reflashing to a stock RC33 after work and see if the problem persists.
edit: Sent an email to my gmail account from my work email, and it took 22 minutes to get a notification.
i had same problem but only noticed it with my contact list. It just wasnt there, and i couldnt even add a new contact. i had jfv1.43 ADP1-1.1 Holiday update. I went back to the version before that and my contact list is back and working great.
I pretty much had the same problem on my rooted phone, my emails weren't getting pushed to my phone. I called up tmo support and they manually switched me to a different cell tower and it started working again.
It still happens every now and then though. Tmo support said whenever i notice it happening to: hit the menu button > settings > wireless controls > mobile networks > operator selection > then pick tmo and have your device re-register on the network.

Cool, thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try!
Hey Guys....
I have a Bell Atrix that i put on the rogers network, it's been working fine but i can't seem to get the OTA update for gingerbread. I've searched through the forums and couldn't find anything like the issue i'm having.
When i go to system updates it goes into the "checking for available update" but it never finds anything and it never stops. I've kept it on for hours but never gets past that point.
I've tried it on wifi on 3g pulling the battery on the phone for a reset but it never gets past there. Every once in a while it will say "check for update was not available at this time please try again later".
I also tried the manual checkin method #*#* (whatever those numbers are) and it didn't help either....
any ideas besides doing a factory reset ??
I bought my housemate a used epic to replace his palm pre until we can look at the note or galaxy nexus later this year. So far registration with sprint has gone fine - they said the ESN was clear and it's been bound to his account without a problem.
The issue is that the data connection is stuck saying 'error 67: username/password may be incorrect'. Looking through "phone settings -> about phone -> system status" shows his phone number and MSID according to what sprint told us, but the 'user name' is still apparently the previous user and a factory reset via the menus and even a full wipe/repartition back to EC05 via odin doesn't get rid of this.
Is there anything we can do here at home or is the only option going to be to go into a sprint store directly?
Try updating Profile. If that don't work then Sprint will have to walk you through a hard reset. You will need advanced tech support for that.
The profile update failed twice on the phone with tech support, took about 5 minutes and timed out with username/passwd failure. We also tried dialing in some numbers on the keypad ##somenumbers#, edit the phone number and MSID by hand, saved and rebooted.
It is definitely a provisioning error. Make sure you are in a strong 3G signal area and try the profile update a few more times. If the tech can't make it stick you probably have to bring it in to a store.
Nevermind.. it's been about half an hour since the last attempt, we tried again with updating the profile and it went through that time. We're all good here! Thanks for the feedback though :]

Glad you got it working.
Make sure is old device is powered off. Power his new novice off for more than 60 seconds to clear the VLR (this is network side). Power device in and then dial ##72786#, follow on screen prompts. You will need your msl. You used this to program your msn and MSID earlier. This will clear your device radio without wiping all user data. After it is done it will try to iota. If it times out again, esn swap to another device wait 5min and the swap back to his epic. You can do the swap on the website. This should get you going. Hopefully you won't have to do the swaps. Also make sure your signal strength is better than -101dbm.
Edit - guess you got it before I finished typing. Glad it's working.

So what's the deal with this? The article says it's coming, but no release date and it says it's for version 7.1.1, which we have, yet without this feature. Then it shows you how to access it in settings, but of course it isn't there, so I'm assuming it's showing you how to enable tethering when it's released.
EDIT: OK so earlier today I checked and did not have this setting. Then I checked right after writing this post and now the option is there. I have no idea what changed but I'm about to try this out. This is going to be great without root
I think they is manually activating it by region or some sort, so not everyone going get it at once but a select people at a time until everyone
FYI: I had to restart my phone before it showed up.
