HTC Magic root - myTouch 3G, Magic General

ok im sorry for asking probably a stupid question but i don't want to mess up my phone...
for the past 4 hours (while at work lol) ive been trying to figure out how to root my phone and everywhere i go is a different way to do it... which one is the correct way.... and will actually work..
here is what my phone says in fastboot thing..
Code:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.76.0010 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-6.35.10.18
JAN 14 2010,00:14:58
ive been to quite a few sites telling me many different things.. example.
theunlockr.com/2009/08/22/how-to-unroot-your-mytouch-3g/
this one i put the sappimg.nbh in the root of my sd card and boot like it says and when i press the end button it just said no image.
android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Magic_Rooting
this one to be honest i just dont understand.. i do what it says but it does not seem to end up in the right place.
wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream/Magic32A_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
and this one said this
If your SPL/hboot is 1.76.0010
You need to follow a more complicated procedure to get rooted and get an engineering SPL. You MUST read these instructions carefully. Pay attention. Do your homework. We are not responsible for your phone if you screw up. One more time - BE CAREFUL. Continue with the following steps.

How to root htc magic from ROGERS 32A

IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE DONT BLAME ME THIS IS SORT OF A RISK SO PLEASE READ THE WHOLE GUIDE AND MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND BEFORE YOU START
one word.... GOLDCARD
Thats what you need to root the htc magic from rogers and let me tell you personally F*CK ROGERS they make it so hard so im going to save you a bunch of time
use this to create the gold card
http://revskills.de/downloads/psas.zip
follow this guide
http://rootyourmagic32a.blogspot.com...htc-magic.html
GUIDE GONE UPDATE COMING SOON
Code:
for step 8
8. [COLOR="Red"]Now copy the SPL to your memory card.[/COLOR]
adb push update-hboot-1762007-signed.zip /sdcard/
just do whats in red
so now that its rooted you need another sd card with your rom
since i have the same phone ill suggest this rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654284
it works on the rogers phone and its fast
you will also need to flash this radio
Code:
[url]http://www.theandroidkitchen.com/fileshare/Sapphire-32A-Updates/?download=update-radio-32A-6.35.10.18-signed.zip[/url]
also you might lose your 3G because rogers is a pain in the ass, your going to need to contact them and you will need them to network reset your phone.
they will probably ask you for your build number you need to tell them build 3.05.631.7 then after a while of them asking question say you found on the internet that your suppose to do a network reset but cant find the place to do it on your phone, (thats because you cant) and then they usually will do it for you, then reset your phone and your 3g will be back!
all that is only if you lose the 3g
if there is anything wrong with this little guide please tell me.
i take no credit for any of the info here its just ive put all the stuff you need in one location.
Hope it helps
Your link for rooting the htc magic is broken.
I'm new to this and i don't know the difference between the two 'radios' but will this method i've linked to allow me to use the 'newer' radio that i won't have to sign any sort of waver for?
I'll be using the phone with Fido.
link
The site is still up, there is just some periods in his link that don't belong there.

So basically, there's no way AT ALL to do this without a goldcard?
Not if you have a perfected SPL, which you do if you took rogers 911 update. and if you have a magic +. Anways its not hard to make one if you follow the steps.
I've tried everthing and it fails every time, i have searched and cant find the answer.
I got a htc rogers magic.

I have the same phone, and the same issue. When apply the RUU , there is a ID Model Error...
Any ideas?
So this is the topic i should follow instead of hte other ones posted in my topic?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723437
I can't seem to get a proper goldcard created. I've followed the guide right up until the end:
Take out the memory card from the computer, then put it back in.
Try to open the memory card on the computer (Removable Disk), if it lets you, you are all set. If it asks/tells you to reformat the card, then try steps 13 - 19 again

I've tried it multiple times using an 8 GB Kingmax, also a 2 GB SanDisk... everytime I place it back in my PC to try to "open the memory card on the computer" it just tells me it needs to be formatted. What SHOULD it look like when it opens properly... will the goldcard contain visible files?
I haven't tried placing it in my phone as I really don't feel like it has worked properly yet...
I guess I'll try picking up a Kingston card this afternoon and see if I have any luck with that.

[Q] Updating to 2.1 from CyanogenMod 1.4

This is what I get from the "three androids on skateboard" screen:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.33.0009 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
With the Rogers updates, they only work if you're going from the stock ROM, which I removed a long time ago. I believe I need to update the radio and SPL. I realize there are FAQs and troubleshooting guides but nothing I've found has helped and I don't want to brick my phone by taking a wild guess. I am completely lost on changing my Radio and SPL and updating to Android 2.1, so if anybody could walk me through I would really appreciate it. I've been stuck with Wi-Fi only and an outdated version of Android for a long time and it's time I did something to fix it. Thanks to anybody that can help.

You need to flash via recovery(if you have custom one), eng spl 1.33.2010, to have fastboot commands. End then you need eyegor's radio switcher to flash new radio and spl for sense rom, and then you flash capys rom rogers
How might I "flash via recovery"? I am unsure how to actually perform this without bricking my phone. Like I said, it's been a while since I've messed with it. I have downloaded recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0H.img, update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2010-signed.zip, and the Radio Switch GUI v4. I'm willing to take a shot at it, with the worst case scenario being me having to get a new phone, but I honestly don't know where to start. All of the guides that I see aren't very specific and assume that the user already knows what they're doing. I know the usual advice is "if you can't do it yourself, you shouldn't be doing it" but I've not got much to lose here, and a lot to gain.

Which rom do you have now? Do you have custom recovery already? You said that you have changed stock rom long time ago

A little help would be great.

So my wife just upgraded her phone and i was left with a stock MyTouch 3g with 3.5mm headphone jack and I thought I would expand my Android knowledge base and see what I could do with it. I am not knew to Android and I have a Samsung Vibrant that I can pretty much do whatever I want with. The Galaxy line is extremely easy compared to this device.
So I did my fair share or reading and research and was able to root the phone with Universal Androot and installed busybox via titanium backup. I downloaded ROM manager from the market and flashed clockwork recovery. I used recovery to installl CM 5.0.8 DS and once it reboots in wont load past the mytouch splash.
This is what I started with:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0013
CPLD-13
RADIO-2.22.23.02
Oct 21 2009, 22:33:27
And this is what it reads now:
SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32B ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2010 (SAPP31000)
CPLD-13
RADIO-2.22.23.02
Jun 2 2009, 17:27:03
I read that Binary said that it is really a 32B not an A so to stick with the B ROMs. I can also access fastboot and recovery.
The easy part with the Vibrant is that if I screw up the phone you can just simply Odin back to stock and start over, but the mytouch is a little more complex than that. So basically I want to get back to stock and start over. There are so many threads and links that say user friendly but I didn't find it quite user friendly. I must just be spoiled with the Galaxy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's not a rush or it's not my daily driver. Just a toy phone now to learn on.
Thanks!
mod edit because of inaccurate information.
So you are saying if I just follow the normal root guide for the fender 1.2 that I should be good?

usually any of the 3.5mm jack phones are 32a devices. 32b is the original mt3g. ones with the jack in the top is a mt3g 1.2 or 32a. If you have recovery working you can use that to restore back to factory or installed sapping.img
here something to help you out .

NO! Damn it! Listen to me everybody! The 1.2 device (Fender, etc) are a 32A/32B hybrid. The ONLY thing that makes this phone ANY different than the regular 23B MyTouch devices is the additional ram. That's it! You CANNOT fit a 32A ROM on the device because it lacks the internal storage. Even if you COULD the kernel for that rom would require a 32A radio. You cannot use a 32A radio because the 1.33.0013 32A s-ON spl requires the 32B radio. And it requires a 32B radio else it will brick. The 1.33.0013 is the S-ON stock SPL that the phone requires to use the memory map. If you try the Engineering SPL (1.33.2010 32B S-ON) the phone might boot, but you will not have touch screen or the use of the headphone jack because of the different drivers and memory map. When you flash the Engineering SPL it will read 32B because that is what is needed to flash the custom recovery and roms. However your device will not work properly because it's a 32A/32B hybrid. You need the 32A stock firmware (1.33.0013 S-ON) for the phone to operate. You also need the appropriate 32B radio and rom as well.
I have the phone and I've had it since it's release. I started off by making custom roms for it and ports before roms were using VoxLuna's driver patch. Trust me when I say that I know a little about this damn phone!
You know what... to hell with it. Do whatever you want. Don't be sending me private messages begging for help when you brick your device because you think it's a 32A.
custom ported rom #1
custom ported rom #2
custom ported rom #3
custom rom #1
They all require 1.33.0013 S-ON with 32B radio.

The problem. You forgot to mention that you also flashed a non-perfected SPL at some point before flashing CM 5.0.8. You need to get that fixed. Luckily you can fix it without a goldcard since you've already got S-OFF.
Download these:
hboot.nb0 for myTouch 1.2 only
Amon Ra 1.7.0-G Recovery
Go to this URL and follow the steps to get ADB setup if you don't already have it. Then go here and follow steps 7, 8, and 9. In step 7, you should only need to run:
fastboot flash hboot hboot.nb0 (the 0 at the end of this line is a zero not an oh).
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
After that just reflash CM 5.0.8, although I'm using CM 6.1 and it's just as good, but with the perks of Android 2.2. I would suggest reading through that thread I linked to get more familiarity.
Lastly, I will warn you that this isn't the easiest way to get your phone fixed, but this is the way that I learned about my phone, so it should help you out in that aspect. I'm sure mumilover or someone else may come along with a simpler solution.
If you have any problems, let us know here.

And I thought the Vibrant forums were hostile. I am glad that you have had your phone for so long and I am quite sure you know what you are talking about. Like I stated, this phone is just sitting around the house collecting dust and thought I would mess with it. If I brick it... great. If I make it the fastest MyTouch it can be... great.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what you and all the other developers and contributors do for random users like myself, but give a guy a break. You have to admit that this phone is a little dated and it's like knowing how to run Windows Vista and 7 then going back to do the same things on a Commadore.

Exactly, all he needs is a custom G recovery (which he should have) and then flash the 1.33.0013 stock spl BACK on. Afterwards, he can flash any 32B rom he wants and it should work as long as it's later than CM-4.2.15.

My apologies, Binary. Following forums over time you tend to see so much hostility over pretty much nothing. It's a learning experience. Just as I had to learn my other phone, some things the hard way, I will be able to steer people in the right direction and help others after I get this one down.

I'm not trying to be hostile but all of the information is available here in the forums. The developers, senior members and moderators like myself have spent HUNDREDS OF HOURS making sure it can be referenced one way or another. They are in stickies and even in MY SIGNATURE. The only other thing we can do for you is do it ourselves! Yet even with a clean and clear explaination this still comes up. We even get some people that post threads saying that they bricked their phones because they thought for sure it was a 32A and they try to hold me responsible. I will be happy to forward some hateful e-mails to you that I get at least 2 or 3 times a week average because people couldn't find the information... yet... if they followed rule #1 of the forums... they wouldn't have the problem.
Look... at least you got the right information and avoided bricking your phone. But I really hate repeating myself over and over again with the same information so I need to be tougher to get my point across otherwise other members will likely use the wrong information and end up breaking their phones... which I will not be held liable for!

RADIO-2.22.23. 02
I tried flashing the same CM and it gets past the mytouch splash but doesn't go past the next loading X screen.
From what you guys said everything is looking right. Any thing look out of ordinary or sound crazy from what i'm saying?

Loading X screen?
What rom are you trying to install?
What kernel?
And now i'm in like tube socks! I just woke up and tried it again and it booted right up.
Binary, it was the same CM 5.0.8-DS. As far as the kernel goes, I didn't flash any separate. The X boot screen I mentioned is the Nexus One load screen (I believe).
The only thing that I did differently this morning was wipe/factory reset, then davlik.
Okay... so from my understanding now:
I have to have a perfected SPL, not an engineering SPL.
I have to use the custom (AMAN RA) recovery and never use ClockworkMod.
Ensure that any other roms I want are 32b.
Now as far as the radio goes, is it best to stay with the radio it came with?
Again, thanks for the advice!

Don, two things...
1. I searched through the ROM bible and didn't find any place to download 6.1.
2. When I try to download the Google Apps from the page you sent me the link to yesterday, it asks for a user name and password. I have 5.0.8 up and running, but with no market and things like that.
Thanks!
Okay... I am now running FroyoRedux-1.9.5 with the Galaxy theme. Everything is smooth as butter.
I fixed the links in the post I pointed you to and updated them to what you news for CM 6.1

You can use clockwork. I use it without any problems. Some people like AmonRa better though. If you run CM6 there have been issues about people not being able to flash the recovery for some reason. Just keep trying and it will stick eventually. Just make sure that you flash the one for MyTouch/Ion devices.
Radio - keep the one that your using.
Roms - 32B ONLY

Need help...Friends phone

Hey guys really sorry if this has been posted over a hundred times or whatever but I really need help. I was trying to do a favor for my friend and flash his phone with a custom recovery and maybe a new rom and I ended up using Radio Switcher because it had a perfected SPL and from there I ended up here

Cant get into recovery or regular system and I tried the SAPPIMG.zip method but all I have is Sandisk cards and the phone refuses to find the image from any of them. I have been a member on this site for a while now all the way back to the HTC Wizard and currently have a HTC Aria and love it and love how easy to hack it is compared to this phone. Just really need help cause I have to return this phone to my friend Monday. I know I know...shouldnt have played around with it if you werent sure what you were doing lol Any and all help would be overly appreciated. Thanks guys.
Ok I ended up getting the phone unrooted and now I have this

You have S-Off so just lookup on how to use fastboot commands to flash the needed radio, recovery and spl.
I really hope that this isn't a US T-Mobile device.

First combo, we could have helped you out...
But the second combo... ooohhh... bad one...
Perfected spl and wrong radio/spl combo... NOT GOOD!
Try to flash the sappimg.zip that gave you the first spl version (1.33.2010).
If you get that back, then we can work out the rest pretty easy!

Are you trying to intentionally brick your friends phone?
[RANT]
I'm guessing that you didn't do much reading before actually messing with his phone did you?
MyTouch 1.2 (aka Fender, aka LE) w/3.5mm headphone jack
Ultimate Guide: How to root myTouch 1.2/LE Fender (3.5mm jack)
Look, I'm not trying to give anyone a hard time but this is exactly what I was talking about a few days ago.
There is so much confusion over this device! It's not hard! Anyone that thinks that is is should have been around when the device first came out! DAMN THAT WAS ROUGH! But it was a learning experience. And through that learning experience we made apps (Androot) and guides and stickies JUST FOR THIS! Yet... how does this keep happening??? Someone explain it to me... please. I'm desperate to know.
[/RANT]
With that said... you are going to have to use a goldcard now that you have S-ON, still not rooted, no custom recovery, etc. You won't be able to boot the phone up because you are DEFINITLY using the wrong radio. You'll be lucky if you didn't completely brick it already.
Use the links above to create a goldcard. I'll warn you that this can be a pain in the butt ( not to mention that some sdcards are notorious for not working at all for this method!) because it requires getting ANOTHER android phone, putting the sdcard in to get the serial number of the sdcard (unless someone knows another way to get it), entering the code into a website to get the goldcard image e-mailed to you then using a hex editor to copy the bootsectors of that goldcard image enter the code into the hardware of the sdcard via card reader so you can use the freshly made goldcard, then all that's left is dowloading the right sappimg.zip file, placing it on the root of the sdcard and booting into the bootloader. You would flash the goldcard image At that point you will be have the Engineering (S-OFF) SPL again and the CORRECT radio. Once that is done you only need to fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (G type, not H)
Then flash the stock SPL back.
Then you will be free to flash a 32B type rom through recovery.
After you have done ALL OF THAT! Your friend might spare your life.
Here... try something like this. Maybe you can find someone to help.
http://hartford.craigslist.org/search/mob?query=root&srchType=A&minAsk=&maxAsk=
I think you're Hartford area... if not then just adjust if necessary.

How in the hell do you unlock a Mytouch 3g?

After many, many hours, i figured out i have a perfected SPL (None of the instructions actully said it, that was more hours searching till i figured it out). Cant flash a recovery to do it. Rom manager cant even install Clockwork, flashrec doent even work. Yes, i am rooted.
I have read every forum post, even searched on google. The instructions here are:
A. Wrong
B. Dead link
C. Just dont work

tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548218
" Write down the ‘Card:mmc2, Reverse CID’ value, making sure to use mmc2 and not mmc1"
There is no mm2. I read every post, there is no answer
My magix is on the activation screen
I made a goldcard using a free tool posted here on xda, I used a Galaxy Nexus to red the mmc CID, I created the .img and wrote it to the mmc.
I put SAPPIMG.zip from a thread where it is posted a ROM claiming to replace the PERFECTED SPL by an engineering one. after booting to HBOOT, the phone searches and says there are no any images or are wrong.
there is only one file in the card, SAPPIMG.zip
I dont know what to do.

I was able to unlock first try. However, the most difficult thing was finding all the files as the hosts are all long dead by now and revskills is down so if you need a gold card let me know. I can still make them.
I'll walk you through step by step if you need.. Because I found it quite a bit trickier than "hacking" my lg nitro hd and I know how hard it was for me to find all the files.. However, my phone is the mt3g 1.2

when I took on unlocking it a couple weeks ago.
I had to make a goldcard manually, then flash the 2010 engineering SPL so I could flash a custom recovery (I like cwm more than amon_ra's because it's missing several options and I'm just used to cwm from my main phone. After this its as simple as flashing any ROM you want.. And since you aren't stuck with a 3.5mm jack you don't have to worry about special kernels and such, so its even easier. Just find all files and read the entire guide to unlocking the perfected SPL before starting so you aren't stuck half way through with a bricked phone because you can't find that certain missing file.
Good luck.

Should be there. You have followed the instructions to a t?
Also if you have a different model it could be mmc1. Not sure
