I'm located in NYC and I been turning on the 4G on and off all weekend in different areas (Bronx, Brooklyn, now Long Island City (in Queens)) and I have a 4G connection. Did a speedtest.net test (app in marketplace) and below are my results...
1st Test -
Down: 2.93 Mbps
Up: .96 Mbps
2nd Test -
Down: 1.55 Mbps
Up: .86 Mbps
3rd Test -
Down: 1.78 Mbps
Up: .96 Mbps
All other NYCers test your 4G availability and report back.
They are testing in the NYC area
About time, doesn't effect me though, lol
Too bad you don't get the full 3Mbps (cap) yet.
I am down on 27th street and got nada...
i'm at 38th and 5th and not picking up a 4g signal.
Down on 28th and Park Ave. and nothing yet. Just scanning...
i'm in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn and don't pick up a network.
Nothing in bensonhurst
Nothing in Financial district...
nothing in bensonhurst brooklyn :-(
Nothing in Jackson Heights / East Elmhurst
nothing in Midwood Brooklyn
I'm in Center City Philadelphia and the record for me so far is 4.9mb/s. I am normally in the 3.8-4.2 area so far. At work outside of Philadelphia I'm only getting 2.2
im on 34 st and 5th ave no 4g here
Also in Jackson Hts. (which incidentally is not too far from LIC where the OP described 4g goodness) and nothing here as of now.
Hey guys
Good news, I happened to be around 59th St and Madison Av and I picked a full 4G from Sprint, however it kept dropping off. I guess they were testing the area. I was working around there for 2 hrs and kept getting the 4G available in this area. I connected for like 30 Secs but then it dropped
Hurray Sprint
How does the 4G network alert work? Sound? Notifications bar only?
thanks
Nothing in Union Square or in Brooklyn Heights. At least today .

You can set it to a Not.. bar under the 4G settings.
Isn't nyc slated for the end of the year? How come you picked up a usable 4g signal anyway?

Anyone able to get 4G consistently in the Boston area? I was down on Mass Ave. in Cambridge and had it working momentarily, anyone know good spots to go to get a steady 4G connection?
I had good 4g constant at my workplace in Medford, MA. The thing about 4G is that it has a very short 10 sec idle sleep setting. So pretty much if you are not downloading or using the connection it will disconnect. Connect back to 3G and then it scans and reconnects back to 4G.
I also saw it briefly connect last night, but signal strength was low in Central Square.
I HAD full 4G signal in Downtown Crossing but have since lost it. Unable to connect. Scanning, to Connecting to Sprint, to Obtaining IP Address, to Disconnecting and then starting the same process all over again. I can def. say that this started happening after flashing a custom ROM (DC 3.2.3) in addition to Radio/Wimax. Since then I have not been able to get it back. I saw one other member mention the same thing. Is anybody still seeing 4G signal anywhere in Boston Metro area?
Question:
For kicks, in methuen, MA over the weekend, I turned on 4G.
I kept getting a cycle (not exact wording):
Scanning
Found 4G connecting to Sprint
then back to scanning
Is there actually 4G available this far from Boston?
I am in Lowell, MA now and I just get a constant: Scanning...
I know for sure 4G was up and running in Boston a couple weeks ago. I was using 4G constantly. I work in Downtown Crossing and was getting sick connection on 4G. But it seems as though it's gone now. At first I thought it was because I had rooted my EVO and applied a custom ROM but now I'm beginning to think something is up with the 4G as I am seeing the same thing with the Scanning, Connecting to Sprint, Obtaining IP Address, Disconnecting and then back to Scanning. I don't know how far the 4G signal reaches.
I get pretty consistent 4G in the Allston/Brighton area right on Harvard ave.
I am unable to connect in South Boston. It was working fine before, now it will get stuck at obtaining ip address then just disconnect. I think this has to do with the rollout since they're still testing it.

I get a very spotty connection in southie too. some days are better than others
I am also having the same issue in Downtown Crossing, been happening for a week now. It's not a rooting issue as I've been rooted since I bought the phone. It seems to be happening in Providence as well.
Not sure if this is related, but I am now able to connect to 4G after flashing the *FINAL* Official 2.2 rooted update. Not only that, even with the same radio, I am now getting AWESOME consistent download speeds, averaging 6mbps.
Same here...I work in Burlington...SPEEDS are INCREDIBLE....4G is BAAACK
i'll out 4g later on today... does anyone else out there find it sad that our 4g speeds tend to be only a little better than tmo's speeds. My boy has a mytouch slide and he consistently get 3.7mbps - 4.3mbps down

Well 4G hasn't even launched officially here yet and they're still optimizing the network even in officially launched markets. Some people are reporting 10+mbps download speeds. It'll only get better.
After being down for a week and a half, 4G - wimax is back up in Needham - but I am only getting 3.4 down and .4 up
A friend with an EVO says they're in the process of installing the antanea/tower (whatever the correct term is) on top of his office roof in Salem, MA. (As of a week or two ago.) The Clearwire tech said planning a full area launch in October/November, but 4G will be available in some areas sooner.
I'm in Haverhill, and no luck yet.

Yeah, I know this is kind of off topic but here's a public hearing notice I saw back in January. Clear was requesting to build a tower/antenna at 678 Mass Ave. That's right in Central Square, Cambridge
I work at Copley/South End and it goes in and out. I live at the border of Milton & Mattapan, and i get a faint signal and works for awhile. Even with a faint signal, its still a very fast connection. I have a friend in Lynn who gets good reception.
4 g is here
Hello all,
Just wanted to note that I'm getting 4g both in south Lowell near exit 37 off of Rt. 495 and stronger signal in Cambridge near central sq. I just used speakeasy for a speed test and download was just over 5 Mb. That was with one bar of signal strengh shown on the phone.
Just turned my 4g radio on today for kicks. Was getting one bar on the water in Quincy. 5.3 to 5.6 down and about 600 up. I like it!
yea I was just looking at my phone and i notice something activate on my phone and it was my 4G I really have to try this out

saw 4G in Germantown and Gaithersburg
I was in DC last week and had 4g coverage (it was spotty). The best coverage was at Nationals Park.

I get 4G outside my job in Greenbelt. Don't have anything at home in Clinton though.
Yea I think they just testing it out
I have actually picked up full 4g signal all around the beltway. Gaithersburg, Rockville, Bethesda, Laurel, College Park, Bowie, NW Washington. Randallstown, Baltimore's Inner Harbor.
Since I got my phone June 4th I have had 4G in Loudoun County (Northern VA) about 30mins outside of DC (next to Dulles Airport).
I am now getting 4G in some parts of McLean, Tysons Corner and Arlington. Haven't seen amazing speeds yet (around 2000kbps compared to a max of 1500kbps or so that I've managed to get under 3G).
Did they turn something on though? I previously wasn't able to get 4G at all in some of these areas.
I was able to connect to 4G in Greenbelt (close to the Sprint store) but it was spotty. Also was connected driving on University Blvd by Langley Park. Noticed 4G coverage in Bethesda as well, but couldn't connect or stay connected long enough to actually use it.
I just got my first 4G signal in Falls Church, in my back yard no less. Signal quality: poor, several 404s on sites that should have been there, but no time for extensive testing right now.
I also get 3 bars in Severn area, Hanover\odenton 1-2 bars

I'm in LoCo too (about 15 minutes from Dulles) and have no 4G coverage
congrats to u guys when u get 4G! let me know how it is!
Got full signal in arlington.
3 bar @ gaithersburg. 3.5mb/s down and 1mb/s up.
No 4G in North Bethesda, no 4G downtown, no 4G in Metro.
I'm in Totowa NJ for meetings today, and I'm picking up a decent 4G signal where last week there was none. It keeps connecting and disconnecting, but I managed to get a few speedtests in, and pulled 6748kbps down and 1038kbps up as the fastest, with averages about 5500-6500kbps down and 1000kbps up.
nice.
I'm in Bloomfield and I get 4g no problem at my house. About the same speeds you saw using the speedtest.net website (not the app) so it's flying. I take the train from NYC every day and I can generally pick it up while in Jersey but it disconnects alot (while on the train). Doesn't disconnect at my house although I got some of those Error 61 bad PCS username/password errors last night, but it didn't seem to affect anything.
Bayonne nj 4g dl speed 9320 ul 1983....wow.
I was driving down the NJ Turnpike today, and noticed that I was getting 4G service from about exit 5 down to exit 3, strongest around ex 4. Encouraging...from that, and the other posts in this thread, it's north and south of me. Hopefully it'll keep working its way closer...
let the fist-pumping begin
Ive been spending my Summer in NJ and NY. I was on the boarder line of Belleville and i also be in Bloomfield Nj and ive never got a 4G signal not even a little connect and disconnect

I don't think 4G goes as far as 3G signals......little reluctant to say where in Bloomfield I am, but suffice to say I definitely have been getting 4G service. It's only been for about the last 3-4 weeks or so. Maybe I'm just closer to the towers?
4G in Old Bridge! Sweet! It ends about 1/4 mile away from my house, but that's all I need! It's not super fast here, but still gets around 3Mbps.
There's also 4g in passaic, clifton, hackensack, and Elizabeth NJ. I haven't check any where else because I'm always drive and don't look at my phone.
Passaic 4g question.....
I've always kept the 4g radio off because I wasn't expecting the service to be available in Jersey but out of curiosity the other day I put her on and BEWM!
One question though, it connects to 4g for only about 10 secs and then disconnects. Is this the normal functionality of the 4g connection or does this only happen in test areas where 4g isn't official? I've read threads in the development section that go into changing the timeout of the reconnect and would have no problem doing so, just wondering if there's something wrong with my rooted phone or if this is normal.
I get 4g in Newark and around bloomfield, I don't get it in fairfield or rt 46
Elmwood Park is live.

I get 4g in Clifton by the Clifton/Passaic border.....right by the supermarket and the strip club ;-)
my evo won't stay connected for more than 10 seconds if the phone is idle...
ie: the phone connects to 4g....I don't do anything.....it will automatically disconnect...and then reconnect automatically...then the whole process just keeps looping.
If I do "use" the internet connection while on the 4g network....it stays connected.
I posted a video on youtube of my download speeds with this connection....

Since the end of November, most of Texas, it seems, has had a drop in speed/service quality with Sprint's 3G and 4G networks.
In Austin, I would regularly get between 1 and 2 mpbs download on 3G, and up to 6 on 4G. After the end of November, I get between 100-500kbps, if anything, and 4G service has been halved.
I called Sprint and they said that the outage is still in effect and they are working on it. I have experienced the slow network in Austin and Dallas. Very frustrating.
Anyone else?
San Antonio has had some issues as of late. I'm not a heavy data user, but definitely noticed a slowdown.
i live in austin and by my house (campus/hyde parK) speed across 3g has remained pretty constant. im in a low lying area so i have no 4g there
at work (arboretum area) i work at the top of a hill and prefer 4g to work wifi. I can normally get 3-4 and have even got 6 or 7 a handful of tests. i have never seen 3g anywhere (on my evo obv) above about 800 kbs. where are you that you have seen 1-2 mbps? cedar park? round rock?
for reference i just downloaded the 58 mb 3.7 update over 4g in about 2 or 3 minutes.
I live in South Austin, William Cannon and Manchaca, basically, and would always get over 1000kbps there, even though I am in a valley and don't have the best signal.
At work, by Zilker Park, and downtown I consistently used to get between 1 and 2 mbps. I never see 1mbps anymore.
Here is a copy of the email I got back from Sprint Support:
Dear Mr. _____:
We regret any frustration this matter may have caused. Our records indicate that there is a trouble ticket open for the Austin area. Customers may experience connectivity issues during this time. We are currently investigating this matter for the root cause of the issue.
Sincerely,
SprintCares
Im in San Antonio as well and it has defiantly been throttled down. you might want to try this little tweek it helped me alot since im on the line of 1604 and service really craps out there.

service around 1604 has sucked bad lately, same with out in helotes, and just about everywhere i go normally.
I live in Houston and I noticed a some what slower data rate here since about the middle of November... I had rooted my phone and thought maybe i would get better connection with it being rooted and nothing changed... I havent called Sprint yet because I have been so busy, but maybe after the holidays I will call them and see whats going on.
per the rep i just talked to, tower down affecting (wouldn't say where it is) San antonio, and a handful of other south texas cities, brownsville, san B____ something. and a city in west texas.
said national 3g coverage is down, probably due to the winter storms, but i doubt any towers i receive coverage from have been affected.
I live in Mineral Wells, a small town about an hour west of Ft. Worth, and I haven't really noticed a significant drop. I don't have access to Wifi or 4G, freaking boondocks, all I have to base this on is my 3G service.
I just ran a test off of a server in Austin with the SpeedTest app, and got:
Download: 139.6 kB/s
Upload: 82.8 kB/s
Ping: 175 ms
What do y'all think, good numbers?
Yea thats San Benito, I grew up there. Its been kinda slow recently here. but I dont notice. I am always on wifi when I get into the house.
Have been seeing the same thing here in NE San Antonio (IH 35 N & 1604) just tested again with 4G and got 3.55 mbs down & 0.85 mbs up. 3G 0.70mbs down & 0.26 mbs up. I have seen up in the 6.0 mbs when I first bought phone in October.
prosper (north of dallas) 3g sucks eggs. 4g is kinda spotty, but there.
I have wondered why service was lagging so bad. I have been driving around Dallas all day today trying to load maps and it has taken about 5 minutes per page over 3g. Can't get a decent 4g signal to stick and haven't been able to for the past month. I have noticed a major decline in signal strength/speed. I use mine mainly for the hotspot and it has definitely dropped in speed in the past month. I now get about 100 kbps if I am lucky. I hope they fix something soon.

There are updated radio's for the Evo and it helped get my speeds back up. I am in Richardson and both 3g and 4g had slowed to half. Now 3g is back to normal and 4g is close to what it was a few months back.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485&highlight=radio+combo
If you are not on the new 3.70 build number only flash the radio and wimax update to the latest. DO NOT UPDATE PRI IF YOUR NOT ON 3.70!!
Seems like Sprint finally fixed whatever was the problem this weekend. On Saturday, suddenly my phone was finally getting over 1000kbps on speedtest.net and seemingly working like it used to.
