I'm located in NYC and I been turning on the 4G on and off all weekend in different areas (Bronx, Brooklyn, now Long Island City (in Queens)) and I have a 4G connection. Did a speedtest.net test (app in marketplace) and below are my results...
1st Test -
Down: 2.93 Mbps
Up: .96 Mbps
2nd Test -
Down: 1.55 Mbps
Up: .86 Mbps
3rd Test -
Down: 1.78 Mbps
Up: .96 Mbps
All other NYCers test your 4G availability and report back.
They are testing in the NYC area
About time, doesn't effect me though, lol
Too bad you don't get the full 3Mbps (cap) yet.

im on 34 st and 5th ave no 4g here
Also in Jackson Hts. (which incidentally is not too far from LIC where the OP described 4g goodness) and nothing here as of now.
Hey guys
Good news, I happened to be around 59th St and Madison Av and I picked a full 4G from Sprint, however it kept dropping off. I guess they were testing the area. I was working around there for 2 hrs and kept getting the 4G available in this area. I connected for like 30 Secs but then it dropped
Hurray Sprint
How does the 4G network alert work? Sound? Notifications bar only?

Isn't nyc slated for the end of the year? How come you picked up a usable 4g signal anyway?

Have you run speedtests?
Still not getting any 4G in East Elmhurst/ Jackson Heights area
No 4G in Brooklyn
I was in Manhattan this eve and it was working when I posted this thread. I am in east elmhurst now and its not working I had 3 bars on queens boro bridge. I'll try again today when I goto Manhattan.

If you want to know when 4g will be in your area just check with Clear Wireless. Their high speed wireless is bought from sprint wimax according to the Sprint near me in Philadelphia.
How come no one else is picking it up just confirmed it works on queens blvd until bqe.
yea I was just looking at my phone and i notice something activate on my phone and it was my 4G I really have to try this out

I get 4G outside my job in Greenbelt. Don't have anything at home in Clinton though.
Yea I think they just testing it out
I have actually picked up full 4g signal all around the beltway. Gaithersburg, Rockville, Bethesda, Laurel, College Park, Bowie, NW Washington. Randallstown, Baltimore's Inner Harbor.
Since I got my phone June 4th I have had 4G in Loudoun County (Northern VA) about 30mins outside of DC (next to Dulles Airport).
I am now getting 4G in some parts of McLean, Tysons Corner and Arlington. Haven't seen amazing speeds yet (around 2000kbps compared to a max of 1500kbps or so that I've managed to get under 3G).
Did they turn something on though? I previously wasn't able to get 4G at all in some of these areas.
I was able to connect to 4G in Greenbelt (close to the Sprint store) but it was spotty. Also was connected driving on University Blvd by Langley Park. Noticed 4G coverage in Bethesda as well, but couldn't connect or stay connected long enough to actually use it.
I just got my first 4G signal in Falls Church, in my back yard no less. Signal quality: poor, several 404s on sites that should have been there, but no time for extensive testing right now.
I also get 3 bars in Severn area, Hanover\odenton 1-2 bars

I've been able to get 4G for a week now when coming home on Interstate 4, from Altamonte to downtown. In my highrise apartment downtown, I am getting 4G right now. Averaging between 3 and 4 Mbps, so not too bad.
I stopped at Taco Bell in North Olmsted today and noticed I had 4G service. I had a fair signal all along Lorain RD and as far north as Rose RD. Please let me know if anyone else in the Cleveland area is getting a 4G signal.

CM6 / Snap Powered
I live on the east side and nothing over here yet. Does anyone know how large the coverage area will be?
I also got a 4G signal in Valley View on my way to work this morning also. I did a couple of speed tests and here are the results:
Valley View (Valley View Bridge) : 7963 kbps download, 1011 kbps upload
North Olmsted (Great Northern Mall) : 8647 kbps download, 974 kbps upload
I am in Bedford Heights and not picking up any 4g signal.

Stupid question, but how do you know when you are getting a 4G signal?
Does the "3G" in the status bar change to "4G"?
Select menu, next select settings, then select wireless and networks. Check the option to turn on 4g, then select manage 4g settings. Select notify me when 4g is available. That will set the phone to constantly scan for 4g.when it picks up 4g there will be a notification on the top status bar.then it should automatically connect and show a 4g icon up top.
From my Evo using 4G
Getting close to me.. I'm 30 minutes north of dayton though.

FYI
"Clearwire said customers may begin to find WiMAX coverage in portions of San Francisco; Tampa, Miami, and Orlando, Fla.; Nashville; Denver; Minneapolis; Cincinnati; Cleveland; and Pittsburgh ahead of official market launches in those cities. However, the carrier has not yet begun to market the offering in those areas." via rcrwireless
I just realized its up in Cleveland too. Got a good signal in Westlake and Bay Village. Check out the app Sensorly in the market, it will show you if and where there is 4G in your area. That's how I found it in Cleveland.

My phone's speed through the speedtest.net app at my home got better yesterday. A LOT better. I'm now reliably getting 3.5Mbits minimum, and got over 5 (5.11 was highest) 3 times. The ping is also good, ~125ms. I can find no explanation for these great scores other than "4"g finally being deployed. Anyone else getting better results?
For the record, the best score I ever got at home before this was 2.2Mbits.
upload still sucks... 300Kbits
nothing has changed for me..still paltry download and embarrassing upload.

Are you sure that you weren't accidentally connected to wifi? Well, then again, that wouldn't explain the 300kbps
my area nw of detroit is hit or miss. sometimes i see 5mb speeds while other times i can barely break 400kb.
overall, my atrix works much better/fasterr than my att n1...
I was getting 2.5-3.0 Mbps when I got it and I live in a very small city. Just tested right now and got 3.5 Mbps and then 3.1 Mbps.
You can see the 4G coverage map at att.com/network
So far I see 4G released in greater Los Angeles, Bay area, "northern California" (Santa Rosa area), greater Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Buffalo, Providence (RI), Boston, Baltimore, Charlotte, and Puerto Rico.
I'm about an hour and change away from boston, and I see decent speeds. Faster than my verizon phone.
I'll be in boston next weekend for pax east, I'm pretty excited to see what kind of speeds I'm going to get.
I've always gotten 3mbs down and 300kbs up.

My speeds tested with the speedtest app in Portland, OR (Vancouver, WA) which automatically tests from a server in Iowa (guess that's AT&T's connection point?). Anyways, not the speeds I expect, but I can live with them.

For the record, I was in Santa Rosa, CA (one of their claimed rolled-out locations) for the past week. When downtown, I had great speeds. If you travel 1-2 miles away from downtown, coverage is hit or miss.
I was there for a week testing it and couldn't have been more frustrated. Constantly dropped calls because it kept switching between networks. I wanted a way to force it to stay on Edge while I was there so I could competently conduct business, but both AT&T and Motorola assured me that there was no way to force it to stay on Edge, as that feature was purposely disabled in the phone's settings.
My iPhone had that function and it came in handy when in bad areas. WTF?!
[edit]
Also, these speed tests in Vancouver, WA (Portland metro area) were tested now. Also, I spoke to 3 AT&T reps + 4 Motorola reps while I was in Santa Rosa, CA. As if it matters, but tracking the help from these companies is important at this stage I think
I noticed the same thing this morning. Im getting 4Mbps+ down, but still .3 up. Im just outside Chicago
Sent from my Atrix
Maybe this is a good sign of things to come?
I can confirm that at the moment I am getting 3.4Mbps and that with 4 bars not 5 but yeah the upload still sucks
Huh. If this really has been deployed, maybe I should replace my Cingular SIM...
Just had 2 bars, ~200ms 3.4 down, .39 up

Are you guys getting this speed with new APN setting or just the default? I'm in a 4G coverage area but am only getting about 1.5m down.

I'm using the wireless tethering mod in the Dev section. The one where you need the SQLite editor and root explorer.
EDIT: I actually hit 4.06 down, and 0.95 up Haven't hit those speeds since then, but my downloads are looking far better (2 mbps+ down, a little more than .3 up) compared to when I got the phone. (Was lucky to hit 1.5 mbps down, and .2 up)

FWIW, I was sitting in Chicago's Midway airport yesterday (remember, Chicago is a "4G" city based on ATT's map). Well, I was consistently hitting 4.0 - 4.5 Mbps down and 300 kbps up while in Chicago on my Atrix. Latency was around 120 ms IIRC. This was very promising to see.
This morning, I'm back to ~2 Mbps down and ~150 kbps up in Denver (where "4G" is not deployed)

yeah, I agree. I want the speeds that I had on my Nexus One, but I'm just going to be patient and see if they get their act together with this phone. I love this phone regardless.
