Processes... they can zombify... - G1 General

Code:
I/DEBUG ( 133): debuggerd committing suicide to free the zombie!
I/DEBUG ( 1057): debuggerd: Jun 9 2010 20:22:50
I/ActivityManager( 150): Process com.android.vending (pid 1038) has died.
I know it's not specifically G1 related, but this if the forum I lurk, so this is where it went. XD
Not sure what's causing this, but my market keeps crashing, I logcat'd it, and this is what it came back with, I thought, though frustrating, it was absolutely hilarious.

Poll - do you use AntiVirus on your Universal?

Debating whether to install an anti-virus product on the Universal since I tend to have Bluetooth on a lot and also use it to browse the internet, use MSN Messenger etc.
Does anyone already use it?
If so what one would you recommend - I'm thinking of using F-Secure's Mobile Anti-Virus.
G
It's generally considered unnecessary, given that there are almost no wide spread WinMob viruses, and given the resources the virus killer uses it's considered to be disproportionate.
V
he means almost NO wide spread viruses.
They make virus-scanners for Windows mobile!? They'd better be easier to install than the OpenBSD one.
hi there i think thats its really necessary to have an antivirus on your universal as u use ur bluetooth and net on it , coz i personally have ca antivirus which was shipped with the original rom and it really works when i use my bluetooth
Sorry, my bad, I said "almost now", and meant "almost no".
Remember that generally to receive a bluetooth virus, you still have to leave your system discoverable, be sent a file, opt to receive it, receive it and then run it before it'll infect you. For such a state of affairs, your own brain needs a virus killer. There might be more easily exploitable vulnerabilities, but generally, if you're exposed to a high risk environment, be it South African truck stops or a discoverable bluetooth connection, use your common sense and appropriate protection.
V
Airscanner might help. But I think not necessary at the moment

LOL ! just something i picked up from sending txt messages and it stuck with me !
Back to the topic, also dont use any antivirus software on my jasjar or even anti spyware,
spybot for mobile came out awhile ago.
i don't use anti-virus either as my email already comes throught eh anti-virus filter at work.
last year i was looking for anti-virus, and firewall software when i was attempting to install a VPN package for work. but i couldn't find anything that worked with our companies VPN/firewall.
Just get SPB Backup, set it to back up your entire device once a week to your SD card and then.......................
Who cares if you get a virus!!!
Given the relatively vast resources a virus scanner uses, I don't deem it necessary.
Worse case scenario at the moment is that I get a virus, and I have to spend 20 minutes reflashing the ROM, and restoring my backup file. A minor inconvenience at the moment whilst viruses for wm are rare and lame.

Touch pro2 windows media player video playback problem :(

whenever i try to play any video on my touchpro2 it gives me an error
"The source filter for this for file couldn't be loaded."
can anybody help me out please ?
no reply yet ?
I think we need more info. What ROM are you using? The title already states WMP so that helps. What format is the file, i.e. mp4, asx, avi? You may want to try a different player. I have had success with the Nitrogen player or the TCPMP by CORE.
And of course do a search. You can use my sig for an easy search or just google "The source filter for this for file couldn't be loaded".

It's probably a case of your DirectShow filters getting bonked. If it shows up again, take a look at THIS thread...the fix in the last post might save you the trouble of having to reflash again.
P.S. you don't happen to go to Embry-Riddle, do you?

Ahhh yes ok....I do have a few DBCC anecdotes and memories floating around. I seem to remember the main campus being just around the corner from ERAU, like right up Clyde Morris, then E a block or so on 98? (92..? whatever lol).
I fly for fun, but no, not a commercial pilot....I was actually going for avionics engineering (flight control systems), but had to leave when my Navy scholarship was rescinded due to medical reasons that came up (bad lung). So now instead I just like to run around the yard in figure 8's, with my arms stretched out, making jet noises
For a living, I talk to people. Professionally lol. And take pictures sometimes.

Anything I can do to help brute force it?
Last I heard they are not trying to brute force it. A few devs are trying to apply kexec to boot custom kernel thou. Here is a link of his twitter
http://twitter.com/aliasxerog
Furthermore, even with that amount of processing power you have there , the RSA2048 bit encryption on the DX would take decades or an extraordinary amount of luck. Or so I've read.
Thanks for offering though!

True! I believe the theoretical assumption of trying to.break a 128 bit key encryption ( for wpa wireless) was said to take several supercomputers working for several months (if not years) to only gain a portion of the key... Sadly...i wish there was a more.positive edge to this...

Would it be possible to make it a group effort to brute force it.
I am sure there are thousands of people that would be willing to run with it if there were some instructions.
I want that dam thing cracked as much as everyone else and would run something 24/7 to help.
I just think it might be easier to write a program that everyone can run and use the processing power of the multitudes to crack it.

Hey Guys, I asked this same question a while back, here was the explanation:
Entire post is here: http://alldroid.org/Default.aspx?tabid=40&g=posts&t=660 Start at post #56
DX encryption is 2048, which is approximately 3.2317e616.
Just to give you an image of how huge that is...let's image for a moment where we live in a magical land, where we could get one trillion computers cranking on this (that's a little over 100 computers for every person on the planet), and, let's say each computer is magically capable of quadrillion attempts a second (for the record as well...I doubt computers will ever be that fast...at least not without a fundamental change in architecture to compensate for the massive amount of heat that would be generated), it would take us:
2^2048/1,000,000,000,000/1,000,000,000,000,000/60/60/24/365 or 102477e578 years (I could be off by an order of magnitude or two, typing in all of those zeros into my calculator.
So sure...start brute forcing now, and your great-great-great-...-great grandchildren who have by now evolved into another completely different species living in a completely different universe because this one has ceased to exist will finally know the code.
The ONLY way into this is through a back door/hack, sorry guys.
ezun wrote: "soooooooo... yer sayin' there's a chance?"
Technically, yes, there is a chance.
@tjmur3, Yes, you are right...my case did assume that the correct key was the very last one we tried. (As in 100% of the keys were tried).
So, let's continue the story where we last left off: 102477e578 years to go.
Well...by magic, we find it in the first 0.0000000000000000000000000001% of keys we try (and assuming that each key is equally possible, there's a 0.0000000000000000000000000001% chance of it happening *that* quickly, it should take us: 102477e550 years, to try out that many keys. Have fun with that. (I may have mistyped how many zeros I put there).
And yes...the universe will probably have still ended by that time...but at least you'll have your key.
People, learn about orders of magnitude, please...IT'S NOT LINEAR!!!
</rant>
(I want this thing unlocked just as much,, if not more so than you do, but I would like it unlocked within the actual life of the phone, let alone my life, let alone the life of this planet, the sun, and the galaxy, and the universe...)
I'd love to see it cracked, but more just to see someone actually pull it out of their arse. I'm happy with how my phone runs on GJAR, it's what I wanted when I bought the blasted thing.

It is a general problem, not just your account,
If you look at any overview, you can see that it has been down since last Friday

Why?
I've tried browsing a bit to see if I can find anything on the issue, but no one seems to write about it, except this thread, and a single remark in a gsmarena.com comment thread.
Does ANYONE have a clue on what the f**k is going on? It's two weeks as of today???
I wrote to them after a few days, but got a empty-reply
"Vores synctjeneste på vores websted er desværre ikke tilgængeligt i øjeblikket grundet opdateringer og vedligeholdelse. Vi har sendt feedback videre angående dette og håber på en hurtig løsning.
Vi beklager meget denne ulejlighed."
traslated:
"Our sync service on our site is unfortunately currently unavailable due to updates and maintenance. We've forwarded feedback about this and hope for a quick solution.
We very much regret this inconvenience."
...And the Danish is as a bad as the translation...

Looks like a ddos attack.
Serving would not take this long.
But I could be wrong.
It works fine here, I guess it has stopped.

It's working again. Who knows, maybe someone has read this thread, and fixed it - but still amazing that it can be allowed down for two weeks, without at the very least a dedicated splash-screen on the login attempts....

Kind of reason for SOME concern. Syncing and stuff leaves information on THEIR servers, and if they leave one of their sites DOWN and say nothing about the security issues and how they plan to fix/address them, well, I for one do not feel "safe".

Cypress or Synaptic digitizer?Mod Edit: Use this thread for the purpose

Hei guys so i saw a thread where there was a DT module for our X8 but it only works with cypress digitizer but...how can i found out if my x8 has cypress or synaptic? I hope that someone could help.me thx
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
Install one of those modules, get multitouch visualiser from the market and check which one works for you.
Detection of which chipset the phone has!
Please there is no secure way to determine what digitizer the phone has from the package, as I initially thought. I maybe thought the SI number had anything to do with it but i was WRONG.
Please stop posting SI numbers in the thread. They cannot be used
You MUST root your phone and have a terminal installed in order to see the chipset version, sorry but that's the only current way:
Taken from doixanh synaptic thread:
Try this command in your phone (either with terminal or with adb shell):
Code:
dmesg | grep "cyttsp-i2c"
If you have something like this, that means your X8/X10mini is using Cypress and therefore it will not be supported by x8gesture:
Code:
<6>[ 4.185259] cyttsp_i2c_probe: Successful registration cyttsp-i2c
Also in my experience if you have "permission denied" you must first enter this in the terminal
Code:

I don't understand why somebody doesn't want to use this good phone just because of single touch with pinch-zoom gesture (although it isn't perfect).
When you bought your phone nobody knew that we have DT/PinchZoom. You accepted that truth (single touch only) and bought your phone.
See, X8 has very good price with its hardware. If you want to play game, buy Xperia Play. Simple as that. Such a little brain.
it is it

Well there wouldnt be any problem if there wouldnt be other phones with wider range of functions at the same price ye its frustrating, but you cant change yar phone. I actually checked it today my phone go cheap synaptic too, but dosent matter i buy a cheap moto defy soon and that rules with price/performance in it's segment and anyone can say anything SE ruined its reputation with 0 support of its phones, at least im not willing to buy unsupported phones, well if it changes over time my opinion will also change.

It's not impossible. The digitizer can be removed, I have done it, I put all my phone internals is a custom black housing and had to remove the digitizer. If you can buy the Cypress digitizer, you can change it.
