did you autodetect?
after autodetect it gives a max of 600mhz ...
isn't that stock?

how exactly do we do that and apply it?
Need some good instructions on this please, links would be helpful

I thought there was a big hullaballoo over the G1 and overclocking and it was discovered that unless there's a kernel-level modification, the overclock widget doesn't actually overclock beyond the max the kernel says it can go(like, it will SAY it's OC'd but will still be running at stock)? Maybe the same kind of hack can be used from the G1 since it's still an ARM11 processor? Sorry about my non-specific rambling, I only have a very rudimentary understanding of this >.>
Perhaps a couple threads on the matter will help. These are threads about the actual kernel modification/hack that allows the OC'ing on the G1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666850
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=679033
FWIW, there's no OC'ing on the Legend yet, and it uses the same processor as our beloved MTS. I'd love to be able to get more out of this device though, hope we see it soon
EDIT: It's also worth mentioning that in the beginning of the G1's life when people were "overclocking" it to 528mhz, it wasn't actually overclocking. It was only that the processor was UNDERclocked by the stock software to 300-something mhz and we were overriding it back up to the intended max speed of the processor, 528mhz. Only recently have people truly started OC'ing it beyond that with these kernel hacks. On the MTS, I appears that it STARTS at 600mhz, which is already the max intended speed of the processor. So if we want more we'll need these kernel hacks. I'm hoping we'll be able to get at least 800mhz and still be stable <3
it took the g1 a good deal of time to have one too right?
If some good developers come soon it should be possible to overclock the kernal maybe try porting from the hero that has many overclocked kernals thanks to behnaam

Hope you dont mind Wes
This is what i was speaking of. It looks like he is already working on it. i'm not a dev but i can tell that this rom in the making is going to come with some yummies.
thanks for the heads up man, I'm no dev either but that sounds awesome. I'm hoping to overclock this bad boy and get him just flying (not that he isn't already). I was searching for the power profile already on the Slide to see if it's possible to just rewrite the current file, but I can't seem to find exactly what I'm lookin for. Guess I'll just wait for a ROM update
The real trick will be to do what we did to the nexus . overclock undervolt

Hi guys, reading up on the Eris a little (I have a Moto Droid as my main phone). Got it rooted with 2.1 and flashed over Evil Eris and the LWP/Launcher2 updates and it seems pretty good so far! My question is when is overclocking going to be coming to this phone? Had my Droid clocked at 1.25GHz and it was rockin'! I didn't see a thread on it here (yes, I did search!) so I thought I would make one.
Thanks!
We need HTC to release the 2.1 kernel source first. Can't do any overclocking without that.
Send them an email to nag them.
Apparently No one has modified the system kernals on anything so far, so over clocking isn't available yet... I'm sure a dev is working on it though...

you know it.
Of course the .27 kernel source is available, we've tried that kernel with 2.1 and it doesn't work right, and would take a lot of work to get working right, then more work to overclock. Not worth it really. We need the newer .29 source.
In the weeks ahead I will backport all the drivers from .29 to .27 needed to make it all but camera fully functional as I did with the heroc and have began doing for the gsm hero. Overclockin to 700mhz is possible for the turbo msm7k devices. I have a patch to enable it but there is some sort of conflict in the kernel that sops it from booting. Ramconsole shows it setting the desired clocks but then that's just the end of it. No more messages after that. The source is proven to work on all msm7k CPUs and it just seems to have an issue with something HTC added to our source. I haven't had much time to play with it but I've started a thread on it in the cdma hero forum. U can check there for more details on it. The patch I posted will apply clean to the Eris kernel source and all instructions are there for how to set it up. Anyone who wants to try and see what's causing it not to boot is welcome to. All I ask OS u post it findings in that thread as I would like to get it working and I always share my soutce, findings, and work. I just ask for others to do the same.
source code is easier than you might think
ok since android is linux and therefor open source htc is law bound to give you any source code you want as long as you ask them so if you really want it all you have to do is request it

Supposedly the Hero update will hit April 26th. At least that's what engadget says, so we should also have our update around that time. My guess would be either the same day or slightly later because they keep referring to the Hero and not the Eris.

that is possible with most things your overclock. you have to find a nice balance between temp, voltage, and speed. Generally, overclocked cpus tend to have a shorter lifespan. I am not sure on the eris overclocking time frame. I think we need the kernel first?

yeah the cpu in the eris is the same as the hero cpu. ive been working on overclocking the heroc for some time now. the truth is that it can be overclocked to 700mhz max and winmo guys are already doing this. they found a sweet spot with our same cpu in their devices around 600mhz some go a little more. ive been usingtheir work along with my own skills and trying to get it working on native android devices. such as the hero and the eris. its a pain but i believe it can be done. im using the .27 kernel source for the heroc btw. ive managed to port all but the camera driver from .29 to .27. making itfully functional except camera. my hope is to get this working in .27 and possibly merge my changes into .29 6 months from now when HTC feels froggy anyhow yeah u can go and view all my threads ive started and a older patch is on my OC thread, in case anyone here has some C skills. fel free to contact me if u have any questions on it. i havent released my current patch as it isnt finished and im not so sure itll do much more then the one i posted on my thread.

Awesome info! I was just wondering what it could be OC'd too if anyone knew. Good to know the same chip is in other phones so you know what they've pushed it too. What does it run stock? I don't think I've seen it posted anywhere.
So SetCPU doesn't work properly on the Eris, right? I had it running for a while but it always said min = 480, max = 528, no matter what I set it to. Also, the battery was draining FAST! It would die in about 10 hours. I turned it off today and it was at 80% battery left after 10 hours and I didn't notice any difference in performance.

528mhz is stock, 700mhz is max supported. Sweet spot seems to around 600mhz. Battery drain won't be a massive issue as long as we can still use freq scaling

Anyone know what effect this will have to games, and live wallpapers?
So most of you know that the HD2 can already overclock their phones which isn't fair and, in my opinion, unnecessary, but guess the snapdragons are just easy to overclock...
So when do you think the TP2 might be able to get an overclocker or will it even much be able to be overclocked? I know no2chem was attempting to do it but then he stopped updating his website .
If I can overclock my phone to 800mghz I don't think I'll be switching this phone in anytime soon.

Has ANYONE ever overclocked the Qualcomm MSM7200A? The CPU may be locked... Although I recall someone saying it can be UNDERclocked.
EDIT: OK, I did some searches. It turns out that the MSM7200A has TWO CPUs, one at 528 (arm11) and one at 256 (arm9). I suspect that this would be difficult to overclock, since the secondary CPU would also have to be overclocked.
The chip has impressive built in capabilities, I had not realized that the graphics support and video was that good. Overall the CPU seems to be built for consistent activity, being sturdy rather than built for speed - other than the 528 Mhz...

This CPU has been effectively overclocked in Android, but to my knowledge not in WinMo so far. The second CPU is the graphics processor and the data processor for calls and stuff(think 3G)
I believe in android people have gotten it to 768Mhz which would be great for Windows Mobile!!

this is quite OT, but I was wondering how come DHDs overclocked to 1.5Ghz can achieve 3k+ Quadrant scores but the G2 needs to be OCed to 1.8 or 1.9Ghz to achieve similar scores? The extra RAM of the DHD makes so much difference?
Well its a different processor, not just lower clocked.
I dont know the specs off the top of my head but i would guess it has smaller caches. That does make a difference. I doubt ram comes into it for most of the benchmarks.

Depending what kernel and what clock speed you set, you should be able to underclock to around 700 +/- mhz and not have any noticeable slow downs.
Just make sure you set a lower speed when your screen is off and you battery will last upwards of 24 hours.

From what I know, the Shift is the Sprint Version of the HTC Merge(or the other way around). And, since there is no Merge forum I could find, I came here. Is it possible to oc the device to 1ghz? Or, is it like the G2, where 800mhz is enough? Also, does it happen to have 512 mb of ram and a ffc? If so, Im dumping my droid 2 for the merge(unlocked bootloader ftw!)

you can overclock to 1.51 ghz with it rooted and it is very smooth and very fast i can say i had many applications in back ground and still managed to go on the web and it was very quick still and play games with no problem very smooth.
The shift can be oc to 1.8 my friend and the g2 can do 2.1
No ffc tho sorry

Anyone got their hands on an HTC Merge yet? Mines definitely great at 800 MHz, and there is nothing i have come across where i felt more clock speed would've been better, and that too on stock rom. This includes some of the heaviest games graphics-wise available on the market. But since its still not officially out, Im still running it on stock as I have no idea how to root it and load custom recovery. As soon as we get custom recovery on this it is a given the performance will increase a lot with custom roms.

Setcpu doesn't overclock unless the kernel allows it to which neither of these (DL17 or EC03) allow... i believe it does however allow you to change the cpu scaling but I think that's broken in galaxy s devices xP
