Is this the same phone? The specs look the same.
The Aria looks more like an HTC Legend without the UBA Case.
The Wildfire is QVGA while the Legend and Aria are HVGA.
HTC Aria looks more like the HD Mini completed with the big screws.
I'll be getting one of these
I think the Aria is just the AT&T version of the Wildfire; if you compare the MDA Compact V with the Diamond2, both devices will look completely different, but they are mean't to be the same.

No again, look at the specs. Wildfire QVGA display vs Aria HVGA display.
HTC Aria = HTC Legend minus Unibody Aluminum Case
ARIA rooting
So, who will be the first to root this phone??
i not getting this one. i will wait until they release device that have a similar spec as nexus
I was going to wait and unless the phone is a huge disappointment in person, I will buy it. I am sure it will be upgradeable to 2.2. What bugs me is that it is only 600 mhz for the processor. A lot of stuff on the other ANDROID, like the INCREDIBLE, I really do not need. It is a good beginner ANDROID phone. I just am looking forward to learning how to root the darn thing and it seems that every model is different in terms of the process.
Aria = Liberty
There is shipped ROM for ATT Liberty aka Aria aka Intruder.
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Lib...37.35.09_7.08.35.06_release_128691_signed.exe
Code:
Under the battery cover, it clearly says HTC Intruder. When you sign into the Android Market, it says "Setting up your HTC Liberty."
So, Aria == Intruder == Liberty

interesting. I'd be happy with just root and no custom rom or recovery.
It is sounding more and more like a re-skinned Legend.

No, sorry it does not - it is not rooted yet.
It may not take long though, depending on how similar firmware is to the Legend, which has been rooted. We'll have to wait and see.

I'm trying to decide if I should buy the Aria. I understand every Android phone can be rooted eventually, I just hope this one won't take long.
So this is for at&t? Doesn't sound good to me. I don't know for sure but I was wondering if at&t android phones allow you to install 3rd party apps?

You can do it with ADB on the backflip. Once rooted, you can install anything.
Looks like a nice little phone. I don't go for big bricks in my pocket, and the Nexus One is pushing it. I like the size - it's the same size (3.2") screen as the magic/mytouch/sprint hero/legend/gsm hero, and it has almost identical specs as the Legend.
No, it's not a superphone, but I really like it. It looks like it would do the job just fine.
Apparently no 3rd party app sideloading and no live wallpapers for some reason. I was under the impression that all Android 2.1 builds supported live wallpapers. Is it because of Sense UI, or is it just something AT&T decided to do away with?
My question is will the HTC Aria get its own section here, and not just be a thread under the HTC Wildfire. It will officially be out and for sale at AT&T in 3 days, which is sooner than some new phones that have their own sections. I'm thinking of getting this phone as an upgrade from my Fuze, but I would definitely want development support for it. AT&T's stock android sucks with their lockdown crap, so it would be nice to be able to root it and actually be able to fully utilize android.
Going from Fuze to Aria
I'm really liking this phone as well. I currently have a fuze but have been wanting an Android phone for a while. I just am not big on the huge phones that are coming out now.
I have faith in the XDA crew and have no doubt that in no time we'll be installing 3rd party apps.
I would not worry about the speed though. Search google for htc aria benchmark and androidcentral has a very surprising test...

How do I set the phone up to accept this image?

So I'm sure that many people know about the leaks going around about the MyTouch HD. It's said to come out on Nov. 3rd.
Now seeing that this phone is in the line of MyTouches, and all of the MyTouches are guaranteed an official upgrade to 2.2, I personally believe that we will get the OTA somewhere very close to that date.
But that's just me, maybe I'm wrong, what do you all think?
Maybe the MyTouch HD will get Gingerbread/Honeycomb instead of Froyo (lets keep our hopes high for T-Mobile :])?
HD is said to come with 2.2 but gingerbread/honeycomb are a possibility in the future.
Since the HD is running stock of course it will be on there, not sure about mytouch slide gettting it around that date tho but that would be great. Been enough time to implant espresso into Froyo. (Fropresso?) So possible yes. The normal mytouch better not get it before the slide. Just not cool >_>

If only I did have friends to call on my rooted MT3GS running FroYo to tell them about this stuff! Perhaps if there were some sort of niche internet forum I could spend a few minutes on each day to indulge my hobby in between being sad and being pathetic.
We all know that, in order to have friends, you must share ALL common interests. Sadly, my newfound love of gadgetry has cost me my all my friends and family.

Love the humor. But yes, android is deff a hobby only for me. Work 12 hrs a day and come home to a pregnant wife, dont think i have too much time to be wasting on here but i do keep up to date unlike crabby pants.
To get back on top, i think that is quite logical. To release froyo to the mytouch line shortly after the release of the latest mytouch is business smart. I say they make us wait a month or so after the release date of mytouch hd. I do think it will be some time before we see gingerbread on any handsets anywhere.

MobileValuer.com doesn't take any money, it is just like comparethemarket.com and confused.com. It compares offers from all of the sites that recycle phones like Envirofone etc, so I don't see any value (no pun intended) in advertising the website!
I'm sure ill see many regular posters from HD2 in the DHD forums I'm loving Android now!
Serious question though, is Android on the Desire HD any better than running a Desire HD ROM on the HD2?

Yes, far better.
HD video recording - camera is by far better.
Battery lasts longer when using Android.
Android is a lot smoother (possibly because of the 800mb of RAM). Also read the DHD has a much better GPU and newer CPU.
Official support as well (although sometimes support by the devs at xda is better )
I also had reliability problems with all builds I've tried on HD2, I've tried 4 different radio versions as well as about 6 different builds, my favorite and most stable one was shubCraft's however, after about a week of use, I would have to reformat and start again as black screen of death would occur more and more frequently the longer I used a build.
To be honest, I got a little bit sick of supporting and tweaking my phone, normally I would love to spend hours tweaking, but now I'm at Uni full time and trying to work full time as well as run a house - so I never find the time to do the tweaks I want to do!
Looks wise, I definitely think I've downgraded, the Desire HD is hideous compared to the beauty of the HD2, but I prefer functionality over beauty (although not when it comes to operating systems!)
HD2 is a brilliant phone though - as long as you have the time to spend on it and tweak it, fix it and support it.

You must be of your rocker,

the phone cost over £400 quid and I'm gonna sell it to them for £114 ...
lol,
In anycase, I'm not selling it, as long as XDA developers supports the phone ...
The only thing the Desire HD has over the HD2 is HD recording, and the Adreno 205 graphics Chip ...
don't be suprised if XDA get HD recording working ...
graphics performance is pretty descent anyway ...

Having Android on the HD2 and wait until Samsung issues the Galaxy S2, keep the HD2 and have both to play

I think the hd runs android tonnes better then the hd2, but im sure it will be on par soon enough
Of course android running natively on the DHD is a lot better than the gimped android we run on HD2. With the obvious aside, I dont think you're missing much other than the camera.

Purchase the Nexus S or MyTouch 4G.
Nexus s isn't available, and I don't like the my touch 4g to commercial to much bloat I'm looking for vanilla android experience or sense the evo was prefect also would like a 4.3 screen and front facing camera, was going for the DHD but it doesn't work in the states
The only differences between the evo and the hd2 that I can think of are:
The evo has hdmi out, 4g of course, an 8mp camera compared to 5, a kick stand, and uses cdma. I'm sure there are more differences.

I just want to get a few opinions from people on XDA.
This year I will eventually upgrade my phone to something else.
I'm looking for a few features:
1. Dual Core Processor.
2. Front Facing Camera
3. Same Size Screen s HD2 or larger
4. Ample amount of Ram
5. Fast Mobile Internet
I passed on the T-Mobile G2X because of the screen size.
Now I'm waiting for the HTC Sensation and the Samsung Galaxy SII.
My HD2 has Android on it.
I want a native Android phone so I can flash whatever operating system on it
and not miss any calls or text.
The HD2 is a very fun phone IMO.
So what new phone will everyone get this year?
htc sensation. plus many of the devs already said they are getting it as well.
Definitely HTC Sensation.

Just look at it.
Galaxy s 2. I'm not willing to wait on devs to unlock the bootloader of the sensation, seeing as how the sony x10 took about a year? And the moto atrix is still a work in progress, and likely by the time the sensation is unlocked, like every other locked bootloader phone, a new "innovational" device would've come out already. Nor am I merciful enough to spare a flagship for its less than decent amount of space. Flagships should have atleast 8 gb space nowadays.

I dont think any other phone (Sensation and SGS II) can be flashed with any other OS (cross platform like HD2).
HD2 is an exception....
But, if you want to have an hackable device, you should go for HTC Sensation
Cheers
My plan is to upgrade in July, get the sensation, sell it brand new boxed etc, use the money and my hd2 in the meanwhile and put whatever extra moneys towards the evo 3d when that drops.
Sorry that sentence is misleading. I would have the HD2 to fulfill my flashaholic appetite.
The new phone will be my everyday driver.
I like the look and design of the Sensation.
But the screen and memory/ storage of the SGSII is tempting.
Thanks for all the responces.

I have had my HD2 for well over a year, almost going on to two, and still till today I get some of the best quadrant scores... Even when compared to phones that are only getting launched now.
Multi core is the next big thing along with 3d graphics for our little devices, but unfortunately they are useless if the OS is not developed around them. Same goes with having a 64bit CPU, and running a 32bit OS.... You guys get the point.
For me my HD2 is still going to stay in my pocket, until a true dual core android OS is launched. The one and only reason I would change, and probably get the Samsung GS2, is because of the lower battery drain the AMOLED screen has, and the amount of RAM it comes with.
The wait shouldn't be too long, Google has already announced ice cream sandwich... Hopefully by then the Sensation will have been rooted, which also be my next choice in phones.
When I saw the review on youtube of the Samsung Galaxy S2 I have been really turned on!
how aboute the LG Speed 2x ?

You have 2 choices. Either Samsung Galaxy S 2, or the HTC Sensation. If you are looking forward for a hackable cellphone with a solid build I definitely recommend you the HTC Sensation. I believe HTC is the best cellphone company right now!

very disappointing in deed.
I'm not too conserned about the signed bootloader.
I don't really plan on flashing or rooting my next device.

No. I don't plan on doing anything but text, make phone calls, browse the internet, and use the music/video player.

Which I do now when I'm flashing and playing around with new roms.

Well if all you want is such, both phones fit your criteria, heck any phone does lawl.
Anyways, well as you said before, the galaxy s 2 has more storage, henc more space for music/videos, and if you store only a little, well, you won't need an sd card anymore right? The way I see it right now, if the galaxy s 2 can play 1080p youtube videos, then its processor is the king of this year. Well until the iPhone 5 comes out with that sexy powerVr sgx543.
has anyone heard any word of a G2 replacement (meaning physical keyboard, 4G, front facing camera, dual core processor, for T-Mobile) im waiting to upgrade from my G2 but i need those in a phone.

The proper name for the phone, before the tmobile de-branding nonsense that they are famous for, is HTC DOUBLESHOT. It should become available in the next few days.

Doubleshot = MT4G Slide
I would never buy the MyTouch 4G Slide, its such a ugly device imo. Its the reason I was never interested in the MT4G.

G1 = 4th quarter '08
G2 = 4th quarter '10
next G series = 4th quarter '12
pretty easy logic to follow. of course by that time we probably will have to start planning for the AT&T merge.. which means I won't be buying a new TMO phone.

Exactly! Once satin takes over ATT i'm outta here! Gonna have to sell my phone on craigslist THE MINUTE it becomes confirmed because all tmobile phones values are gonna drop like a rock once it becomes widespread public knowledge.

I wasn't aware that AT&T was being taken over by soft, shimmery fabric.

Have to agree that the MT4G Slide is completely ug-o. Its a matter of personal taste, of course. But it looks more like a throwback to smartphones from a couple years ago; rather then the sleeker, more recent HTC designs. If a similar type phone is coming soon, and not nearly as ugly, I'd pick that over the MT4G Slide as well. Just about nothing is known about the G-Infinity, so it may be just that.

Its one of the deciding factors, not at the top of the list though. But when two similar phones are compared spec wise, it plays a bigger part. You do have to look at the phone alot, so it might as well look good.
When I was choosing between the G2 and MT4G, they had similar specs so it came down to what looked better. I liked the professional look of the G2 over MT4G
Now for the MT4G Slide, its similar to a Sensation. Again similar specs, so again it will come down to which I like better. Again it wont be the MT4G.
But if a physical keyboard is important, the MT4G will be the best choice right now. Im able to live without a physical keyboard now.
I think the MT4G is a good looking phone. but...I really hate the look of that logo and name. It makes the phone feel kiddish and unprofessional compared to the Desire Z/G2. Hardware wise, it's almost similar but slightly better. And the build quility seems better with the G2.

I lol'd. And yeah the mytouch series of phones have never really enticed me. But... if it had a 4.3" or a 4.7" screen then I'd probably go with it. But for now, the sensation looks like a better buy.
I wanna see if the next physical keyboard phone will have a bigger screen. I'm having a hard time using the touchscreen now since I've been using my gf's sensation. Also, I feel that the g2 keyboard can be improved. When I type on it, and I want to type faster, I slow down because the tactile feedback and placement starts to throw me off?
