has anyone heard any word of a G2 replacement (meaning physical keyboard, 4G, front facing camera, dual core processor, for T-Mobile) im waiting to upgrade from my G2 but i need those in a phone.
HTC Vision (G2)
Android 2.3.3
CM7
The market for phones with keyboards is very tiny. I doubt there is any rush.

I did hear of a "G-Infinity" in the leaked T-Mobile roadmap. It was slated for beyond fall 2011.
I can see it now, the worlds first quad-core icecream sandwich smartphone...
The proper name for the phone, before the tmobile de-branding nonsense that they are famous for, is HTC DOUBLESHOT. It should become available in the next few days.

Doubleshot = MT4G Slide
I would never buy the MyTouch 4G Slide, its such a ugly device imo. Its the reason I was never interested in the MT4G.

pretty easy logic to follow. of course by that time we probably will have to start planning for the AT&T merge.. which means I won't be buying a new TMO phone.

Have to agree that the MT4G Slide is completely ug-o. Its a matter of personal taste, of course. But it looks more like a throwback to smartphones from a couple years ago; rather then the sleeker, more recent HTC designs. If a similar type phone is coming soon, and not nearly as ugly, I'd pick that over the MT4G Slide as well. Just about nothing is known about the G-Infinity, so it may be just that.

Its one of the deciding factors, not at the top of the list though. But when two similar phones are compared spec wise, it plays a bigger part. You do have to look at the phone alot, so it might as well look good.
When I was choosing between the G2 and MT4G, they had similar specs so it came down to what looked better. I liked the professional look of the G2 over MT4G
Now for the MT4G Slide, its similar to a Sensation. Again similar specs, so again it will come down to which I like better. Again it wont be the MT4G.
But if a physical keyboard is important, the MT4G will be the best choice right now. Im able to live without a physical keyboard now.
I think the MT4G is a good looking phone. but...I really hate the look of that logo and name. It makes the phone feel kiddish and unprofessional compared to the Desire Z/G2. Hardware wise, it's almost similar but slightly better. And the build quility seems better with the G2.

I lol'd. And yeah the mytouch series of phones have never really enticed me. But... if it had a 4.3" or a 4.7" screen then I'd probably go with it. But for now, the sensation looks like a better buy.
I wanna see if the next physical keyboard phone will have a bigger screen. I'm having a hard time using the touchscreen now since I've been using my gf's sensation. Also, I feel that the g2 keyboard can be improved. When I type on it, and I want to type faster, I slow down because the tactile feedback and placement starts to throw me off?

The reason why is because of the new phone specs that leave the nexus behind. The multi-touch screen for one.

No, the Sprint Nexus One will still be coming out, most likely by next month. Only reason Nexus One was cancelled for Verizon was for the reason that the Incredible and Nexus One have very similar specs, but the Incredible has a few more advantages. They wouldn't really want a similar phone with similar specs. As for the Evo and Nexus One, they don't really have similar specs, one being that the Evo is 4G. It would be smart for Sprint to pick up the Nexus One as some people don't like the size of the Evo such as me.

His theme is seriously one of the best I've seen. I run it without Sense. It's freakin' great! And I've told him that several times. I love it.
As for the N1, I heard in a few weeks. So, I will most likely getting it. Sure, I'll have to fork out the money, but the Evo or Sprint rather will not be getting 4g in my area for a while. Granted I do live 1 hour from Atlanta, GA and that city has 4g already, but how long will it take to branch out from there? I don't know. Plus, I'd have to hold the Evo to see if it is too big for me. The N1 seems to be about the size of a phone I could handle. I keep my phone in my front right pocket. The Hero is a great size. But it seems that the N1 is a bit slimmer. I hope so. I can't wait to check one out at the Sprint Store/Best Buy. Sure, Evo has some cool features, but if you don't have 4g, it goes to waste....And Sense is nice, but I find myself not even using Sense anymore. And the N1 has a trackball. I have found it useful many times when typing and having to go back and select something...While using my finger to select it just did not get it. Kinda frustrating. So, yea, I think the N1 is my choice. For now.
It would be a good idea for Sprint to get both. As well as Google. I mean, I am sure the CDMA N1's are just piled up since Verizon just dropped out of the deal. Sucks cause I would like to know how many would have sold.

If the EVO had no Sense UI out of the box, I'd be happy. But I'm through with waiting for HTC & they're delayed updates. The EVO is supposed to have 2.1 when honestly I think thats pretty lame if 2.2 is the new deal.
Sense UI just ruins it for me & I know they'll come out with an AOSP rom or whatever, but I dont wanna have to wait for that. And the least the EVO could do is put on a virtual trackball like the Legend... I find it pretty lame its only a touch screen.
Maybe they'll improve overtime, but the EVO is just not there for me IMO.

I'm not trying to be rude at all but why do we care? We always see threads where people tell us that their dropping their G2 because its not for them, it has bugs, and I believe there's another thread discussing who's dropping their G2 for the myTouch. I love my G2 and it may have some bugs but nothing too big or hardware related like my Nexus had with multitouch and the radio. Again I don't mean to flame you or anything I just don't think its necessary to make a thread to tell us that your dropping your G2. Sad to see someone dislike this great phone but the only time I'll really care is if cyanogen or enomther gets rid of their G2
Sent from my T-Mobile G2
What you think the mytouch will be bug free? All phones come with trials and errors. Your only going to get yourself into a phone with errors as well yet the only difference is you'll have to wait longer to get them fixed since it was just released compared to the g2 which is soon to come. Not bashing just given my 2 cents

If you have a g2 now, I'd hang onto it until after the mytouch 4g has been out for a week or two. Every phone released to date has had issues.
If it's just a bulk thing, I hear you. That's THE only thing holding me back from one. There's no guarantee the mytouch will be all that great though, so you may end up regretting trading your great phone for a mediocre one.

Only in the G2 forums..
To OP, It looks like a pretty good phone, just be aware that you might be stuck with Espresso. It might have the same issues when trying to root.
I played with the MTHD at the T-Mobile store, as one the workers had one. It's thinner, and has a front-facing camera. It's quite heavy, but not as heavy as the G2. It feels solidly built.
The guy was pushing the wifi calling and mobile hotspot. I believe (my supposition) the G2 will get wifi calling, and I can do mobile hotspot with the temp root. So, the only things I would not get are the front-facing camera and the thinner form factor.
On the negative side, the MTHD has Sense, and if I hate that, it would really suck. At least I've been using AOSP for some time now, and I know I like that. So, I probably won't switch, but if form factor is a big deal (or FFC), then people should switch, I think.

Exactly! Was planning on switching to sprint in jan. This is just in time. Just what I wanted. I do not want a behemoth to carry arround. My nexus one with 3.7 screen is perfect size. All I missed was a slide out keyboard and front facing cam.
One other thing I like to consider though. Which will be more likely to have future OS versions ported? I dont bother on relying on sprint/samsung/htc for updates. I am asking about difficulty for devs. A big reason I was considering the epic is that the nexus s came out running the same platform, which made me think porting new OS releases would relatively easy. Is the shift likely to get new releases faster since it is an HTC product? I know it is impossible to know anything but what are your guy's thoughts on this right now?

Err, not sure if this is sarcasm, as beyond exaggeration it is false. You imply the shift has a slower CPU. Dont count mhz. The second gen snapdragon in the shift will certainly outperform the evo without question and with 45nm tech get better batt life to boot. I agree the Evo is not sluggish though. Which means the shift will be even better. Maybe you just need to ditch sense?
As for screen size that is not a downgrade. It is user preference. I like a nice compact device, not a brick.
Same thing with keyboard. I like getting real work done on my handset. KB is very effective.
If you already know this and were joking I apologize . If you were serious you should really rethink your position and recognize that different things suit different people (the CPU issue however is clear cut that the shift is superior).
Cheers!
Those of you who do decide to buy the Shift might be disappointed come June when the true successor to the Evolution drops.

Honestly, if your EVO is that bad then you either have a bad device, or you've done something horribly wrong, in which case.. you shouldn't worry about owning a smartphone.. stick to the flips.

EOL? GOOD! So what's next?
Shift 2 I hope.
Well I wouldn't close the coffin just yet. The EVO Shift has plenty of life in it still.
According to that article the shift is already eol the end of last week... Which was kind of expected, seeeing how htc totally butt ****ed ics by adding the typical htc sense bloat****... I have my doubts, because there is an evo3d on the list that's supposedly being eol'd... It has only been out 7-9 mos... Evo3d is a flagship phone and although it wasnt as popular as sprint had wished, im actually very surprised if that list is indeed true...
Edit: is the evo3d sprints new samsung moment? Lmao!

Boo, it's true, the Shift is no longer an option for buying/upgrading (on Sprint's website).
But, with a proper ICS rom, the Shift should still be kickin' a year or two from now. Here's to hoping the successor will be just as awesome (maybe with HDMI/DP out capabilities?).

This makes me LOL! The same thing happens with all smart phones. When their flagship phones don't sell as much like drob331 said, they tend to pull other devices off the shelvs first in hope that people will upgrade. The same thing happened with the G1/Mytouch. People continued to buy G1's and Mytouch's even after they were no longer available, from places like from ebay and other places. They were still great first generation devices!

Yea of course, just because the shift is reaching EOL doesn't mean anything changing here on xda, ebay, or anywhere else. It's just an extra tag sprint has given it. Yet I still view as a little saddening as the shifts power was under estimated.

Same here.
I think I would've been fine with the shift for another year, but the moment I got the EVO I couldn't stand the slower speed, and i couldn't go back to the small screen so I went with the 3D I guess you can call me a band wagoner LOL. Shift is still my favorite device though

It is? What website is that, I know it's not Sprint's or HTC's website
I thought I'd cross post this coming from a G2 to a One S

I'm very interested in seeing how much the Note will cost on T-Mobile.

why not the one s? i'm seriously considering moving/upgrading to the one s because i'm tired of people saying that my phone is "thick" and "heavy", so the one s is perfect for me
The thing about the one s, in the UK its REALLY expensive because it just came out, and doesn't have a micro sd slot... And id want a good battery, I've heard wonders about the note and the razr maxx!

Didn't they say a black one is coming? Don't really like the bluish tinted one wish it came in white like the one x

not persuaded from this review, they are mostly problems that can be solved by working some minutes on the phone...
IMO it's (one of) the best android phones out now. One X and tegra 3 doesn't appeal me... Samsung and LG are the worst brands imo...
Have a look at my optimus one... You may even notice some, just a bit, dust under the screen... this after one month...

ditto here, i think i might wait too, so the price will fall a bit. and btw, you do realize that internal memory is faster than external, hence a better user experience ?

I'm also considering the HTC One S... but I will not be purchasing the grey/blue accent version. I've heard that the One S might be released in black/red accents later, likely related to the chipping that occurred to the international version with this MAO treatment. If anyone has any real news regarding the release of this version on US T-Mobile, please post here or start a thread... I follow TmoNews.com, but haven't read anything definitive yet.
Great read; only thing I missed was your reaction to the speed boost vs G2? What is your impression?
Thank you for mentioning that HTC should not name their web browser "Internet". Pet peeve of mine! There is an AOKP setting (I think it's AOKP?) that lets you use the volume up/down key when you have the IME keyboard out to move back/forward over the text input line. When that comes to your One S it should help ease backing up a few characters since you now lack a trackpad.
Your review speaks similarly to what mine would, I'm sure. Some of the reasons you speak of (and obviously, no QWERTY) are the reasons I am not buying one of these new flagship phones. IF there is a QWERTY and it completely blows or is locked down then I'll be considering moving to a non-qwerty phone, but let's be realistic here. New hardware and thinness do not matter. Those aren't new features, they're expected with new devices and aren't something that will add sway to me purchasing the device.
I think the SIII is pretty hideous, personally, and while I have a Samsung TV, I'm not the biggest fan of their mobile device build quality. That said, some of the features in the SIII are pretty badass. I dunno if I'd enable that feature that creepily detects my eyes, but I do dig the wireless charging amongst other things.
People are so blown away by the One S/X when they don't seem to realize that all new [flagship] devices coming out this year will have similar hardware.. so if that's the case, then why not wait a few months and see what else is announced? I guess I'm just old fashioned and tend to wait to see what the user reaction is to new devices, as well as the user/dev community, etc. Because those things matter!

me too.
This thread made me realize that the one series are built in batteries.
Its so nice when your phone is dying and it takes only a few second to change the battery and go.
In school, I hate people saying "oh, dont play with my iphone too much, I need battery for the ride home".
