I was curious if one of the senior members could explain how people are able to achieve some of these crazy mflop and mhz when you go to the linpack site. I understand that the droid has a beefier processor so I get the 1300 mhz numbers - I just dont understand how you could hit 80 mflops.
Are these stable everyday devices or are they maxed out to hit the number and then dialed back for normal use.
Thanks.
The Linpack results are manipulable. If you know what you are doing you can get it to say pretty much what ever you'd like it to say.
I have no clue either, but I saw framework hit 8 mflops with evil Eris 3 Rom

No you didn't. That's fake also and was done well before Evil Eris 3 was done. I assure that Framework is not running a 1ghz overclock on an Evil Eris 3.0 rom. The 5.6 value is the highest legitimate value.

Well I did see it regardless if it was fake.
Thats cool - Thanks guys - seemed kind of unrealistic.
I and running XTR and hit about 2.6 - 3.1 @ 710mhz.
Anytime I exceed 710 I get boot looped.

What is a good mflop score? running buufed 2.0b oc to 768 mhz i get 5.05 mflops
That is a very good mflop score. I have never heard of anyone getting at or higher than 6.
In my experience;
Stock Hero (2.1) - 1.9-2.2 mflops
Aloysius OC'd to 710 - 3-3.2
Aloysius OC'd to 768, JIT enabled - 4.5-5.2
DarchDroid 2.7 OC'd to 710, JIT enabled - 4.5-4.8
Of course, YMMV depending on memory, apps running, etc

More or less.
You can look at the linpack scores on there website. The gsm hero and cdma share top 10 scores. I think me and someone else have top scores of 5.4 and 5.5mflops.

hey jus10o, did we ever find out if everyone's phones were freezing because of the typo (768 vs 787)? i saw it on darch's thread but never saw an answer

it shouldnt of froze your phone.. But in 2.5 or 2.6 when darch said it was clockable to 787mhz, it wouldnt ever go higher then 768, even when manual set in OC app.
But yes thats why it wasnt working.. 99% sure. Ill try to catch toast while he is on and ask him bout it.
Maybe it's just me but doesn't less than 6 sound kind of low? Even for June 2010? I had/still have a Milestone, rooted, ROM'd and O/C'd and it runs at 1200mhz and MFLOPS are always in the high 10's.

Stock CPU speed for the Hero is 528mHz. Less than half of what you referenced.
yeah whats everyones fastest most stable combination?mine so far would be nfinitefx45 deoxed stock rom with a 768 overclocked kernal.and the new CyanogenMod-6 rc is pretty fast!with the uncapped kernal
Cyanogen 6 with dec s uncapped kernel clocked to 768. Using battery tweak, juice defender, jit enabled, surface dithering disabled, home locked in memory. I get about 420 on quadrant and around 5.2 mflops

i recently installed cyanogen 6 with the google addon.
What is the " with dec s uncapped kernel clocked to 768. Using battery tweak, juice defender, jit enabled, surface dithering disabled, home locked in memory" you are refering to?
I currently use set cpu to overclock to 691. I currently am only getting just under 3 mflops and just under 400 on quadrant.

Decad3nce has an uncapped Kernel - the stock cm6 one is capped so users with older chips (without the "With Google" branding) can boot.
Battery Tweak by Dec and Collin_Ph improves battery life by installing a small user defined service (I can't remember what exactly it does)
Juice defender is an app in the market that controls battery use of apps.
JIT - "Just In Time" compiling - very techy stuff here but more or less gives you more MFLOPS - but our Heros dont have enough ram for it to truely be effective.
Surface Dithering is a CM6 option that makes the screen look better. Google the term and see what it does for photos and stuff.
Home Locked in memory keeps the OS from flushing it from cache and causing a few issues, like hitting the home button and all the screens being blank for a second while it populates them.
So the above statement is just his lits of configs that make the device run best for him. But remember MFLOPs and Quadrants aren't everything Alot of it is feel.
Wow that was nice and detailed explanation. I'd up vote it if I could.
I haven't used the uncalled kernal. I have with google branding. I think I'll try it anyway.
Cm6 fresh install seems faster than any other rom I've ever tried. I turn off eye candy and it flies

I gave up using Fresh ROM because it was getting laggy and we haven't had an update since August, so I finally made the switch to Cyanogen's RC1. Overclocked to 768 mhz, I've been getting 438 consistently on Quadrant. Linpack has been giving me varying results around 3 MFLOPS. The best I've gotten was 3.25.
I'm really curious as to how other Heroes do!

Hi All,
Updated my missus's Legend to 2.2 today and ran a Quadrant Benchmark test on it..
best of 3 was 903 (avg is about 860)..
What are you getting on 2.1... and what sort of scores are you getting on the custom ROM's out there?
Post your scores stating which ROM you're running..
Clean Eclair, 2.1 = 4XX-5XX
Azure, 2.2 = 8XX-9XX
Cyanogenmod RC2, 2.2.1 = 8XX-9XX
Never benchmark a Sense ROM before so I cannot provide such information.
Best of 3 was 365 on unbranded 2.1 update 1

I'm sorry Sir, but are you ****ing-kidding-me? With almost stock 2.1 i had ~380. With azure 1.0.x now i have ~460.
I have not programmed anything in android yet, but I know programming java for some years and I think that I can tell you why those spectacular benchmarks doesn't apply in most games.
The improvements have been made in the dalvik virtual machine, which is responsible for executing the java code of the applications.
But if programmes want more performance, they can write part of the program directly in native code, developed in C or C++. This code cannot be optimized (more), thus applicacions using JNI massively don't see any improvement.
I suppose many games should be using JNI because of the advantages in performance, so they're already 'optimized'.
Please, correct me if I'm wrong

Go to the respected ROM's thread, or the OC thread and look around for other peoples results. That is the average result. 4XX on Azure? Seriously? Raja, the avarage Azure scores are 4XX because JIT is actually disabled in that rom, even though the option present and checked.

Sorry my bad.
Seems like JIT was disabled only until Azure 0.6.
However I can confirm that my Azure 1.0.1 quadrant score was 4XX (which is kind of low...), and as I now have 1095 with CM6.1 I don't think theres a problem with my legend's performance.
Sorry for the newbie question, but.. how do I run a Quadrant Benchmark ?
I know these numbers refer to the performance, and that the 2.2 scores a lot better, but in actual everyday usage - battery life, speed etc. what does this practically mean?

Install Quadrant and run it. Well, technically it is just numbers. But most of the benchmarkers do admit feeling the difference between lower and higher scores. Some say those are placebo effect, but meh. I don't buy that ****.

Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Well the fact that the new version reads lower plus the fact that your underclocked that much, I'm surprised it was that high, unless you're still on 1.5.
The highest scores are from CM6 w/ the Snap Turbo Kernel and range from 2500 to ~3000. Highest I ever got was 2700. Miui also gets high scores of like 1700 to 2000ish for some people, although I usually go 1500s. For Sense ROMs, I think the highest I've gotten was 1500s or maybe low 16s with the old Quadrant and MikFroyo + Ziggy's BFS kernel.
I also used to get 1400s with EViO 2 1.7 underclocked to 921. That is a sweet ROM.
Its been a few month's since i ran one, but I think it was a little over 1200

Sadly on stock when I first got the phone I would get over 4000 but now with GB and a 1.1 overclock I only get up to 3600. Is it really that far off on performance because it isn't a final build or is the final build going to be like this?
