If you wanna skip to the good stuff, see this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQRgT3gtmsI
It's comparing an Eris, Droid, and 3 incredibles.
It seems that whenever the incredible isn't grounded or being held it becomes unresponsive.
Heres an example in a car dock..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXB1MjYM5Ks
How many of you are getting this problem? It's actually a pretty big deal even though it wont stop me from getting the phone when its back in stores..
I'll just throw a case on it.
Also, doesn't it make sense that this is the reason why it suddenly became impossible to get an incredible?
The reason we've gotten is AMOLED shortages but they're probably fixing this in the background.
I really hope so, because the first thing IM gonna do when i get this phone is test this **** out LOL
I've never ever had any issues with screen response. I tried to duplicate the issue in that video on my own with no success.
What halt in production!?
at our office we tried the exact test with 8 incredibles and every single one of them worked fine.
I think that happened to me a few times. I figured I was taxing the hell outta the processor with my fast clicks.
Mine has done it from Day 1. Just can't seem to get worked up about it.
Happens to me when its in the car dock, takes a few tries to get a response.
Interesting stuff. Tested mine on a variety of surfaces right now and it worked fine. I bought mine on launch day FYI.

As you can see it says "due to high demand" they wont ship til 6/28!
Also I went in yesterday and they also said it would be around 3 weeks.
I've called about 5 stores and get the same thing from everybody.
HTC is simply NOT shipping these phones atm.
Shortly after they were made aware of this design flaw.
The Inc is by far the most responsive phone that I've ever used, much more so than either the Droid or the Eris. I have also compared it to the N1 and whatever the issue was with that, they definitely fixed it.

Not at all true.
http://androidforums.com/htc-incredible/75303-date-you-ordered-received-phone-vs-will-ship-date.html
Phones are indeed shipping out.
So, again, what halt in distribution?
Sure, they are having trouble getting the parts to put together the phone and they are way behind, but I don't think there's any evidence at all that they have halted distribution to fix a major problem.
Lex, those forum posters purchased in the month of may.
The same month that this problem was discovered in a good portion of phones.
HTC was notified of this issue in mid to late may.
Since then (according to your own link) nobody was getting phones without a delay of at least a few weeks.
Those who had already purchased phones, still got them, but with a delay.
Those who hadn't had to wait longer (some time in june).
I am pretty certain that they slowed production to make sure that phones which were shipped didn't face such issues.
If it was merely a shortage of AMOLED displays, then answer me this.
How come the evo 4g, nexus one, desire etc are shipping out like mad with no news of shortages?

Mine is only unresponsive in a car dock mounted on window, with no ground...
Only had it like a week, is this something people have sent phones back because of?

Well the Evo 4G doesn't use an AMOLED display, so it is unaffected. As for the N1 and Desire, my best guess would be that no one is buying the N1 and since the Desire has been out for a while compared to the Incredible, demand is down.
Both my friend and I got our Incredibles on launch day (he got one at store, I got mine in mail from pre-order). We both have this grounding issue. For example, sitting on the couch with the phone next to me, the phone screen is so unresponsive I can't get past the slide unlock screen to open the phone unless I pick it up. Friend has the exact same problem on his couch.
The phone is still amazing and I don't let this ruin my experience, but the issue isn't a myth.

Exactly, im just wondering if it was bad batch, hence maybe we should swap them out :S
You could call HTC, let us know if they're able to fix this..

Phones are SHIPPING, that's a fact. There's no "halt in distribution". Supply is obviously lacking, but your theory about it having to do with the screen is just a theory with no real backing behind it at all.
Call HTC, do whatever, try to get confirmation, but until you do, it's really just a guess on your part if they are doing anything at all about this possible issue.
*update*
I just got off the phone with Verizon Rep about the unresponsive screen problem. who didn't know anything about this situation, I made him transfer me to a Verizon Tech after a lot of negotiating.
The Verizon Rep decided to stay on the line with me, and we both spoke to the Verizon Tech about the issue.
After a long explanation on my part, they say its not in there Reported faults so I made Sarah the tech I was talking to go to this forum, and lots of other forums, and search Google for to find information out about this issue.
She found lots of people mentioning they had reported it to Verizon, but it wasn't in the reported faults section.
Therefore she said she noted it in that section, and also forwarded it to HTC as an urgent notice.
She then went on to tell me, that when she dug deeper into their system that she found a couple of cases of where this had happened, and they couldn't find a fix for it so a new phone was shipped.
So it ends up, I have a new phone on its way by Fed-Ex overnight shipping, so it should be here within 2 days. I have not had to pay the $35 restocking fee, and hopefully the new phone won't have the same issue.
Ill update as soon as I get the new phone.
Thanks
This problem does not happen to me as much as some of you. Maybe once a week at the most. Although, to change the subject a bit.. I do get the HTC logo when exiting apps or Killing apps sometimes and it hangs up on the loading screen for about 15-20 seconds. Once again, I figure Im taxing the CPU a little. I still love this phone and hope HTC can take down Apple Corp. (aka Cyberdyne) some day

Just been speaking to Vodafone to check my order status, as they were supposed to call when more stock was due yesterday. Been told by one of the managers that they were told late yesterday that they now have no future stock dates, as HTC were seeking to fix 'hardware issues' with the phone. She used the word recall when referring to existing Vodafone phones, and then mentioned the camera explicitly.
So for those of us with unfulfilled orders the wait continues.
And for those whose phones see the world with a pink hue, a hint of things to come? Anyone else spoken to Voda in the last 24 hrs?
I thought the pink hue was a software issue, or at last that is what HTC were reported to have said a few days back and they said they would be releasing a fix. If it is a hardware issue I wonder if the same recall is going to apply to HD2s from other networks, like O2 for example? And if those already sold are going to be swapped?
I'm not too fussed anyway as the hue on mine is barely noticeable, but I have seen photos from some where it's frankly terrible. Despite the quality of a camera on a phone being fairly low on my list of important features, if I owned one of those I would be interested in a swap.
I assume the Vodafone dont know what is really happening, I dont think HTC would lie about this huge issue.
After a week of tests on my handset that I sent to HTC repairs. HTC are returning it back to me without them doing anything apart from installing logging software that identifies the sms issue.
It has been explained to me several times that it [camera] is a software issue that can only be fixed with a patch that will be released as soon as they can, they are working on it.
I had a call from Voda yesterday (since I emailed a complaint to the UK CEO, I get regular update calls lol) to say that the stock they were expecting hadn't turned up and that the next delivery *should* be 2nd December
Edit: got another call this afternoon from the nice girl who is keeping an eye on my order to inform me that they may get some earlier than the 2nd, she's going to call me back on Monday.
I have a HD2 from Vodafone and mine is ok ok no problems with the camera. Got it last week
Only yesterday, I was told 11th December by a Vodafone rep, middle of next week by a T-Mobile rep, and possibly monday by an O2 rep.
All of these companies were meant to give me a call as soon as the hansets came in. It turns out I've missed 1 delivery by T-Mobile, 2 by O2, and 3 by Vodafone even though I ordered with them some 3 weeks ago!!!
I also thought the camera was an issue that HTC are working on. If there was to be a recall t would be for all phones, as Vodafone ones aren't branded.
Damn this is turning out to be a hard phone to get.
I had put an order i with Voda Business and voda general public. The latter said it would be with me by Sat, i called on the Friday to confirm and was told that a small batch came in but wasn't available to their department therefore wasn't available for me and they projected the next batch would be in around the 11th of Dec.
I then called back to make my feelings heard and was told that one would be with me by Monday and was already in transit. This it turns out was the phone i ordered through the business department which must have priority over regular customers.
I haven't heard anything regarding recalls etc but haven't spoken to them since Friday, so i'm really hoping it will be here on Monday. If not i won't be happy!!!!
Just to confirm the 11 december date. Vodafone UK informed me on 27/11 (which I had been previously told was the date the HD2 shipment where due into their warehouse) that this will not now be until 11/12.
However if there are hardware issues this may well drift into 2010.
I'd hazard a guess the delay is due to some of the bugs noted in this forum seen on the first shipped ROM.
As many people have said here - the average mobile consumer expects their device to just 'work' when it comes to the basics (calls, sms etc). Vodafone aren't doing their own ROM but instead taking what HTC have provided; this means bugs and all. Trouble is while the average WM user who has paid £500 from Expansys etc would come here to look to fix such bugs, the average Vodafone user would be on the phone / back to the Vodafone shop complaining that their phone is "rubbish, doesn't work, can't use it, refund please". I'd therefore guess this is why they are delaying accepting HTC shipments - until their own QA people are happy.
For the record - while I understand this view - I personally would MUCH prefer them to just send me a phone and I'll update it to later firmware when available. But that's just my personal preference! Guess such things are the price you pay when a high end tech gadget like the HD2 attempts to make it into the mainstream consumer market - you're never going to please everyone. On the one hand HTC should have probably done a bit better with their QA, on the other hand no doubt they were under pressure to release. Whichever way they could have jumped their would have been complainers!! I mean, the people on here complaining about basic bugs - would they have been happier if the phone was delayed until say March next year?! Maybe some would've been, but probably not most.
IMO HTC have to keep people on-board by providing updated ROMS / Hotfixes quickly - weeks not months.
Just my opinion..
How long do these hotfixes take to come? I mean, shouldn't some HTC programming team be able to fix all this in ONE DAY?? (*providing it is software problems of course).
I am stuck here with a faulty handset that O2 can't replace because they have no stock. I'm just wondering whether to ditch it and go with another manufacturer. Even if it was working perfectly (which I somehow doubt will happen) it's still a total nightmare typing on the virtual keyboard. I have to correct virtually every word I type and for a previously hardcore texter, I have actually come to loathe texting. It has become a chore!

Sounds like the HD2 isn't for you re. txt'ing. I felt similar around 2 yrs ago (in that I hated touch screen phones for txt'ing) but have since come round. Each to their own.
Re. the hotfixes etc, sadly turning them around in a single day just isn't realistic. Maybe on a home-brew app, but it is with these sorts of timelines which lead to the mistakes in the first place. I'd say you'd be looking at a turnaround time of 2 weeks MINIMUM from bug identification to public release, most probably longer. While it certainly isn't ideal I'd be happy if they turned things round in <1 month.
I know, I know, not ideal the bugs are there in the first place, but such is life!
hmm... I can undestand what youre saying and I can agree in some of it. But if it is a hardware error with the camera, is dosen´t fit under the decription "bug" in my opinion
As to whriting on the HD2 I totally disagree, it´s so nice and i whrite very fast on it

Hi Madindehead - is there a way of checking my vodafone internet usage? Cant seem to find it online on my account page?! I know there is a fair usage policy of 500MB but when I checked my phone this morning the notification tab stated I had been connected to the HSDPA network for 6 hours?! am I right in thinking this is just the connection being kept alive?
Also is there any software out there that can monitor my 3G connection?
I wouldn't worry too much about the FUP to be honest, I don't know anyone who got told off for going over. Plus I think that if everybody tries to stay below it they'll never change it, on the other hand if the majority of people goes over it they might "officially" raise it.
Got mine this morning, woot. Would have had it yesterday but Royal Mail suck...

Correct, I ordered mine on-line last night and have an RM tracking number for it to be delivered tomorrow morning
I got mine from Vodafone yesterday, not branded in anyway at all.
My mate got his too from Vodafone on Monday.
Problems I have so far
1. Can't send SMS messages at all!
2. Bluetooth wont switch on
No issue with the camera so far, battery life not too bad.
Can't get any twitter or facebook updates to notify me when screen locked, but then I havent read the manual!!
Lovely phone though

You're lucky then! I've ordered through Vodafone business, and they can't access the online stock (why not?) and won't get their own stock until 14th December.
Frustrating.
So I totally dropped my phone and shattered my screen today. The phone worked for about an hour then it died. I charged it and when I turned it back on and tried to use it, the screen totally got screwed up and I couldnt do anything.
Its pretty bogus that TMO wants me to pay them another $130 for a replacement phone and if I dont return the broken phone within 15 days, they will charge me another $300.
My GF doesnt really like hers. The APPs are way too expensive. I think she might be going back to her G1. Im seriously thinking about a Nexus One, but would have to dish out another $279 for that phone.
Im torn, i like the phone but Ive had so many issues with service, dropped calls and things not working like they should.
what are your thoughts? Ill try and take a pic of the screen with my GFs cam at some point.
Thanks for listening.

Wow, sorry to hear that man Did you manage to shatter it even with the rubberized case that came with it still on? I have mine on there at all times, but I'm still terrfied I'm gonna do exactly what you did.
If I were in your exact situation right now, I'd take your gf's HD2, and get her a mytouch slide. You get another chance with what can truly be an awesome phone, and she gets the latest android phone tmo has (or will have very soon) with a hardware qwerty....and, maybe even less out of pocket than the other options.
Sorry to hear that...That's exactly what I'm afraid also. Just texted the wife telling her to take care of that beauty cause one drop and it's gone

How can the HD2 be a powerful phone with all the problems it has? Ive had it replaced already because of the shotty service I was getting in places I had great service with my G1. Even with the flashing of several different ROMs, the phone froze all the time. The only problem with getting her one of the MyTouch Slides is that we used our upgrade eligibility to get the HD2's, so we would have to pay FULL price for the phone. She does really miss the Android market.
Yes, had the rubber case on it, but it landed on the corner of the screen. The rubber case doesnt go over the screen.
So whats the deal with TMO getting the crap end of the stick with phones these days?

Well, it has been for me and others as well...since you were asking, I thought you were saying you thought it might be worth another chance. Did you get a chance to try the new upgrade from Tmo?
I was confused too, when you said you'd have to pay $279 for the N1...I thought that indicated you had an upgrade available to you yet.
And yes, I did notice that the rubber case doesn't go over the screen. I was asking because without that it's possible to have the screen shatter even if the impact point isn't on the face of it.
I just havent had the best luck with this phone. Seems like it has lots of potential but its not fairing very well so far. The $279 was a price I pulled from the site. I dobubt TMO would take their phone back and give me some kind of credit on a different phone even with the phone insurance. Hell TMO doesnt even sell the N1.
What new upgrade are you referring too? Was it an upgrade to the stock rom? Ive been using a flashed ROM, so didnt see that there was an upgrade available.

That's correct, you have to just take the replacement phone of the same model, since it's done through the insurance company totally independent of tmo...they're just the ones who sold you the policy. I honestly was under the impression that the deductible was $100 for the HD2, but if they told you $130 then it must be $130.
I think that the $279 price for the N1 is for new lines and maybe upgrades, but it's honestly been a while since I priced it out.

LOL That's funny because just 5 minutes before I saw your post I was having a conversation with one of the moderators about how there had been a rediculous number of new threads started in the past 48 hours about the new Tmo ROM update
It was pretty much known that it was coming soon, and a couple of days ago somebody found a backdoor to the file on tmo's servers, before they had announced it. A bunch of people (m'self included) grabbed it right away, but it now looks like tmo has pulled the old switcheroo and substitued some oddball incompatible ROM in it's place for the time being (from the Dash, or something equally goofy). Hopefully they'll greenlight it officially soon...this exact thing happend with the tmo TP2 upgrade earlier this year too. I'll be happy to get you a copy, if you have an easy way to transfer a 200MB file You can check out the threads here in the general section about it, there's a lot of reports of what's different, etc.

That does kind of suck that I cant get a different phone. Oh well. I may still purchase the replacement phone. The N1 price was for eligible upgrades.
Thanks for the offering of help. I read one of the threads saying it was a Dash file now. Damn TMO. I only read the one thread. Didnt seem like much was different. Have you tried 4shared dot com to upload the ROM too? So since its not "official" than it has to be flashed? But if it were official then it would get sent to the phone from TMO?

Actually, our handy-dandy moderator zelendel has created a link where you can grab it if you want to check it out: Tmo HD2 ROM upgrade
Now, one of the underlying differences between WM and Android is that any updates to WM must be applied manually, even official ones. They come in the form of a full ROM upgrade, not in "patches"...and they're never OTA or direct to the phone. Official carrier or manufacturer issued ROM updates are applied by you running a .exe file on your PC desktop that handles all the flashing for you, over USB. Custom ROMs of course have a more involved/complicated process.
This upgrade at that link has the usual "offical update" installer....but Tmo has obviously decided to hold off on letting us have sanctioned access to it just yet. But, the one they finally release will likely be very close to this one we're playing with now.
Thanks for the link and the information. After using the G1 phone for week, I quickly remembered why I didnt want that phone anymore. So last thursday, I ended up ordering a phone from the "insurance". The phone came today. My GF says, they sent me an complete phone package, with case, battery, ear piece, manual and alls I got to do is send back the phone.
I wonder if the phone comes with the update on it already!
I probably wont be able to play with it until tonight, more than likely tomorrow though. Im swamped at work and will more than likely work late tonight.

I snagged the update on the first go around the leaked version and let me tell you it has worked wonders!!!! it has been about two weeks and I have not had the Sleep Screen of Death or any of my other issues! I read about complaints when people downloaded the official one on the 18th but it looks likes they pulled that one because they where having more issues than it fixed?!
So is the moderator link the "official" download, or the leaked version?

Cool, so its not the broken latest version...woohoo!
It's the same one. There is no difference between the one that was leaked and the one that was removed from T-mobiles website this weekend.
so why am I hearing/reading conflicting reports, some say its great, others say more stuff is broken.
Because not everyone uses their phone in the same way or with the same expectations. I upgraded this past weekend and haven't had any problems but I also haven't opened up every app and setting to look for everything that has changed. YMMV
What is happening here is 100% OUTRAGE !
HTC is pathetic in releasing stocks and in my opinion lead extremely unprofessional behavior in handling new products.
Just when I thought Apple finally had a rival...
Releasing a phone that you can't buy...
CANCEL the silly Desire HD because no one is going to get one until XMAS so it seems.
Its annoying sure, but its not like they have started kitten stomping...
Calm down man.
It happens with a lot of products like this. Demand can be hard to determine. The PC industry works in a similar fashion, with stock being available, and then more coming in due time.
There is no need to call them unprofessional just because of a stock shortage every so often. I seem to recall when the iPhone 3GS came out, it was almost impossible to get one for a time because of a lack of stock...
How dare they release a product that's popular and suffer due to that! Those bastards!
Are you insane? It's a phone, wait it out or go elsewhere. It isn't the first time a supplier has had trouble keeping up with demand and it won't be the last. Look what happened with the Wii when it first came out, they were going for 2 - 3 times the normal price due to demand and shortages.
I guess i was lucky. Ordered mine last friday and recieved it on monday morning.

got mine for 2 weeks now, i have waited for 2 weeks on my dhd as an upgrade from vodafone. i told them if i can't have the item before my patience run out i'll be cancelling my upgrade and going somewhere..... voila!!! and now i am playing with it too bad, i have no idea that the battery life on this one is far worst than my old phone and no custom RUU yet unlike my old touch pro 2. aside from that it's perfect.
i was also told by tmobile that there would be no stock until xmas time, so i asked about one of thier stores and they said that was ok. luckly my local store had 1 left so i grabbed it.
they also told me they are selling these machines like hot cakes, the funny part in my case was 3 people came in whilst i was doing the paper work asking for one.
imho its well worth the wait if you cant get one immediatly, the machine is tops.
With all due respect, this is why preordering is an option. What would you like them to do...delay the device another month to ensure there is more stock and please everyone in one hit or release it a month earlier and over that time ship the same number of units but allow some customers to get their hands on them earlier? Personally I think its better to have units in peoples hands rather than sitting in crates at a warehouse doing absolutely nothing for anyone. Certainly, you wouldn't get the device any sooner and theres no guarantee when the stock does ship that stock will be enough as they may not be able to gully estimate the markets demand.
It was pretty obvious stock would be tight at release so I preordered one. Needless to say, I've had mine for two weeks so people are getting them.
I too, was slightly upset from the delay. Mine wasn't on HTC's fault, but on the UK Sim-Free not passing on of Google's tests back in start of October. This was somewhat unavoidable, and although some places such as Amazon had moved the shipping date from start of october to mid-november, i was quite happy to pre-order mine on the 1st Oct to receive on the 1st November. I got a second shipment, which gave people before me time to start rooting the phone, making skins, and letting me enjoy my phone a bit more.
Within a week, HTC had brought out fixes for some of the bugs that was discovered.
Demand for the phone is pretty big, only proving that HTC is a major competitor of the iPhone, and I for one am ecstatic, seeing as I only heard of Android a year ago when the Hero was released, and no-one had heard of Android. Now it rules my life....
Some things are worth the wait, and this is one of those things
Go to a 3 store they have loads selling sim and unlocked £449 I know they have them cos I had to exchange my first one due to crashing problems.

Im so disappointed right now because it looks like HTC are delaying the phone AGAIN! They were meant to ship some units (mine included) this week but it's been delayed again because of component problems.
LOL
I swear some people just makes threads so they can see their name keep popping up occasionally.
Do you also sit at the table slamming your fists down over this "outrage". You might live longer if you either pick a different phone or you know, calm down, take a breath and be patient.

My thoughts entirely. How do these people get through their normal life? Waiting for a bus must make them ill.
Hi, I have a problem with the G2.
I have in my possession 2 of them, and they appear to be freaking out, the trackball is malfunctioning on both phone, at least that's my 1st impression.
I'd like to know if one of you faces the same issue and/or if there ways to get it fixed.
so to give you an example, when I use the phone it will push randomly all directions (up, down, right, left) and make it a pain in the ass to use the phone.
or when writing commands in the terminal emulator, the phone will randomly write: ^[[A^[[C^[[ ... etc etc and on and on.
do you guys think this is a hardware issue? cause it started 2 days ago, and I bought these 2 phones at the same time basically when the phone was released. (so I guess they are part of the 1st shipments and maybe faulty???)
let me know.
Since they're optical, there was probably some sort of lighting that was interfering with it. Happens to me from time to time...

Happened randomly to me too when I got this flawled phone and had to exchanged it(luckily was within first two weeks of tmobile phone trial). Now I'm dealing with flimsy structure, this craptastic Z slide feels like two magnets with same polarities facing each other it just won't shut anymore! I'm gonna send it in to htc and ebay this p.o.s.
No offense to htc and htc fan boys but I have learned my lesson, its sad tho because this is my first ever smart phone. I was previously on a samsung highlight with no internet or even email because I was a broke a$$ collage student freezing my fingers off with roommates in the winter saving money on utilities. Not even a month after I renew my contract the nexus s comes out which I wouldn't mind right now if only tmobile mandated their manufacters announce their phones so I can plan my purchase like i had been when I almost got a nexus one.
Carriers don't seam to care whose phone you have--but if it sucks you're options most certainly include leaving the carrier altogether to try something new...at least the iphone band wagon includes most if not all your friends or friends to-be whome you might like to game with. Businesses these days...
Now I'm ready to swing back the other way in the spectrum and go for iphone when it goes out on verizon. Who cares tho right? We're only the exclusive bunch that are stuck with g2 in a g2 only section of xda where no one will hear our plight? Wrong--we're a young generation with money in our hands. I'm 24 years old, i plan to get married now that i'm working and done with school, you better believe my future wife and children will own iphones or whatever else isn't a consumer's nightmare

You're a fool if you think the iPhone has no flaws ir defective units. My wife's 3GS gets no GPS reception (turns out this is a fairly common issue), a friend had the radio crap out (was dropping all calls and data connections) and had to exchange, and another friend is having major battery issues (and of course the battery is not meant to be accessed on the iPhone). That's about a 30% failure rate in iPhone owners amongst my close friends.

gentlemen please behave! LOL
yes I'm very disappointed by this, and I'm thinking about offloading the device when I get this fixed. the motorola milestone milestone never let me down, dunno why I didnt get the second version over this one (I think it might because of the release date)
anyway, if more of you guys have any explanation to this situation please feel free to comment ^_^

And you're a fool for including coverage of at&t along with battery problems with mine and dude who started thread's hardware issues.
I'm sorry you had a hard time with your iphone, I myself think at&t fail hard so I really don't know where you thought I was saying iphone is the best, but get with the program you're comparing iphone 3gs with my supposed iphone4 contender the g2... maybe if you said something about the iphone4 I would care.
As I stated before at least iphone has a huge customer base to be among other things, scared of. on the other hand we get pissed on by android os phone manufacturers in the horse races playing catchup with apple to try and get consumers using droid phones. So I get duped into buying this g2 and nobody gives a damn. Btw this phone went down in price very quickly which goes to say it sucks.

You misread, I don't own, and will never own an iPhone.
My friends iPhone radio issue has nothing to do with ATT coverage, which you are again completely misreading (and ATT is actually excellent in my market). Her iPhone worked fine for almost a year, then either the radio software or hardware failed. The issue was completely repeatable at the ATT store. The ATT rep then put her SIM in a different iPhone, and it worked fine. So it was obviously a issue with the phone, not the network.
If you think the iPhone 4 is so much more awesome than the 3GS, you must have slept though Apple's antenna design fail. You should also research the instances of cracks in the supposedly unbreakable (or at least very difficult to break) Gorilla Glass. And the iPhone 4 also has proximity sensor issues.

Who forced anyone to buy X product? Don't forget that you have a choice. These things are like food. A delicacy to one, is the most unappetizing thing to another. Aren't you glad you can choose which one to buy?
....a little research into what you are buying goes a LONG way
^^Nice first post^^
OP, have you called TMo customer service and asked about the problems your having? I've had nothing but excellent service from them with one small exception that was resolved very quickly. If your still in the buyers remorse (14 day) period they will send out new in the box units or allow you to exchange the phones for something different. If not, they still have a one year warranty, so you can get them replaced....
Hope you get things settled soon....

yeah I think when I get back home next week I will try that, the thing is I don't know how long it might take for them to repair the phones
if they do repair them I will try the milestone II instead.

If your out of the remorse period, they will send out replacement units, bare bones so to speak (no battery, SD card, back cover or charger)... In my case they sent them out priority and I had the replacement in three days. You don't return the defective units until the replacement arrives, so no down time.

T-Mobile will send you replacements before you send the defective units back. Basically they send you replacements, then you send the old ones back in the same box(es) they delivered them in.
Hope you get your issue resolved....

Dial 611 from your phone and ask for technical support. They'll walk you through it from there.
More importantly, how did you get a g2 with a track ball?

Since the battery is built into the phone and cannot be removed, I'd say that counts as a "hardware issue".
Which isn't really the point here.
The point is that faulty devices will always exist, and the more complex the device, the higher the number of faults.
Yes, the iPhone wouldn't have had the issues that you had.
Because the iPhone doesn't have a slide-out keyboard.
Or an optical trackpad.
See?
Follow that line of thinking through, and you're back in featurephone land.
Fact is, smartphones are complex. Manufacturing faults are inevitable. You just got unlucky. Twice. How unlucky? Well, so unlucky that I've never heard of a single other case of this "inverse-polarity-like sliding mechanism".
Doesn't make it a bad phone tho.
And more importantly, how did you get them to switch you without using an upgrade? I'm not trying to con a phone out of Sprint or anything, I just don't feel I'm getting what I paid for with my Shift, the flex cable keeps breaking and then I'm stuck with a non-working phone for a week while they order a refurb which I still have to drive to the store and pick up. The manager of my local store told me today that there was absolutely no way for him or any other store to switch me to another device. I called sprint and talked to everyone and there was no way for me to get into another device without making an insurance claim and paying 100 dollar deductible or moving my upgrade up for 105 dollars which would mean another long 2 year wait not to mention still having to purchase a new phone. Asurion offered me an LG Optimus (for 100 dollars?!) and I about lost my temper but kept my cool. So would I would like to know is how did you get Sprint to switch you out for a NS4G. (Retentions?)
TL;DR:
Frustrating process with Sprint ended in them telling me there is no way for me to switch to another phone without paying money, losing my upgrade, or both. Want to know how some people have switched to the NS4G.
5 minutes and I switched back to shift.
I was told the only way a customer gets a different phone, is when they have had their original model replaced a minimum of 4 times... That's what the Sprint store in Fond du Lac, WI and Sheboygan, WI told me...
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Seems like I hear a different thing every sprint employee I talk to. The manager at my local store claimed that 4 days ago an internal memo forbid all store employees from switching customers into any other devices no matter what. When i called in they at least tried (claimed she couldn't get approval to switch me) but ended up offering me a bunch of BS all which involved me spending money and losing my upgrade in November. I guess I'll go get another shift and wait for the flex cable to fail again. *sigh*
Does depend on which Store you go to, and who you speak to. I have great luck with the corporate stores. They always take care of my issue, no mater what it is. But I've gone to regular Sprint dealers, and they just try and run me in circles. I was told by a corporate store that after 3x's they would exchange "most" devices. If the issue, or issues were not customer related.

Had the Nexus S for a full two days. No way I would trade my Shift for one. Also had the EVO3D almost two days. Same story, the Shift flat out smokes them both IMO .

Well, I think the only reason to want a nexus s would be for those people that are so adjusted to amoled screens, that anything else actually hurts their eyes. I personally love the shift's Super-LCD display, and am fine with the brightness/battery life ratio. In my opinion, its why I won't get a OG Evo of the 3D, cause pentile is bad (3d) and regular LCD doesn't have as bright of colors (OG Evo)
I am in the same boat. My second shift in a month is on backorder again and they told me they couldn't switch. The first lady i talked to tryed to switch me to the nexus, but wasn't approved. I finally talked to guy that seemed in the know and what pretty nice. he told me they won't switch out phones anymore because too many people were abusing the system and getting different phones all the time. Also, he said the rule about getting a different phone after four has changed since sprint carries the iphone. he said there is too much money wrapped up in the iphones to allow that rule anymore, and they have been told they can't do it. So, you are just stuck with what you have. They ordered my replacement monday and it is still on backorder.
Yep I now have a shift on back order as well, just dandy!
I must of gotten lucky with my shift because I've never once had any of these issues most people talk about on these forums...like many others have said, there is not too many phones that are like or just as good as the shift. When it comes time for me to upgrade I might just tell sprint there is no phones I want to upgrade to until they make another htc slider phone.

100% with you on that. Never have any of my phones have given me any problems although i am on my second shift but thats cause my first one decided to go swimming in a lake after i did my very first flash to CM7 lol
The most common problem with the shift is the flex cable... If you think about it, it should be expected, with users constantly opening and closing the keyboard... I love my shift... I wont be upgrading soon because sprint doesnt have any phones I'm interested in... I just wish they had a better design for the flex cable, at least so it lasts 2 years...

Most definately agree with that . But I think they do it for planned obsolescence. Otherwise most people would just keep the phone for a longer time. Which is definately not what they want. But the cable is easy enough to fix.

Oh believe me I plan on keeping this bad boy as long as possible! There's a flaw to your planned obsolescence theory, the stuff breaks way before they plan and ends up costing them way too much money in the end. I think it's more of a engineering design fail if anything, but so far so good here, no hardware failures...
Same here no issues, knock on wood. But a lot of times when you go in the "Tech" ( who knows less about the phone than we do ) tries to tell you that it's something you did wrong. Had a Tech try to tell a friend of mine with a Virgin, untouched, unrooted, two month old Shift. That the reason his screen went out was because he was trying to root the phone. I looked him dead in the Eyes, and said your full of it. Then handed him my phone running SS v9, and asked him if it was rooted. He looks at it for a second then says I'd have to test it first . But yes your correct, an engineering glitch can cost them money in the long run.
the only issue i have with my shift is that the hinges are a little bit lose, but i guess that comes from usage

Agreed 10000%. But the repair guy I was talking to also said the quality of the Shift and HTC as a company has gone down. He has been repairing way more HTC than Samsung devices as of late. If Samsung makes a new slider, I'm on it.
