How to close office apps with save - HD Mini General

Thre is no more Ok or close button in bars in HD mini.
For the most part of application we can exit with the quit/exit funcion of application. But for Office applications, there is no quit/exit option. How can we quit these Offices apps ?
AmeBa do not seem working.
Other solution ?
If I stop the application via task bar, when I restart it open the las file, and ther is no way to change the current document.
Each solution is welcome.

using Internet Explorer button to 'close' programs

Is it possible to actually 'close' programs using the internet explorer hard button?
I have SPBPlus installed, and the 'x' button is set to actually close programs rather than minimize then. When i assign the (ok/close) behaviour to the internet explorer button, and then use it to close a program, it only minimizes it.
So basically, is it possible to make my internet explorer button actually close programs?
thanks.
Yes it is possible with SPB Plus installed. Look further down the list of options and choose [Close]
This should do the trick.
I use Wisbar Advance 2 for that. I also have a .cpl that you drop in your windows folder that will show up in Settings>System>Soft Key so you can use the soft keys as a close button. I have the left SK for Windows and the right SK for a Close button.

Hello whats good,
Seems Like no one in the above posts interpreted what you meant.
I understand that U want to close your apps. with the HARDWARE BUTTON <INTERNET EXPLORER>
I assume (As u have stated above) U have set <ok/close> as the Action assigned to it.
Thats why It Minimises it.
To CLOSE IT FULLY. simply assign <CLOSE OK>
SCROLL DOWN >>>
Ok/CLOSE and CLOSE OK are Two Different Things.
That shall close it Proper.
PS::I too was using OK/CLOSE previously. Thanx to your Post I am able to Close my apps Fully.
One thing though It takes a mere 1.5 seconds to open my 2900 Contacts Book. But My device is lighter all the time with all the memory Hogging apps Down !!
One more thing I shall add (editing My Post)
Only those apps. whose page is Open shall be closed by this.
Not the background apps.
I know this doesn't answer your question, but you should install smartskey and use the right softkey button to close apps. Alternatively, the end call button seems to close most apps.
thanks for the replys, all helped, i've finally managed to actually close programs without having to always touch the little x in the top corner with my big clumsy thumb!
Im not really familiar with pocket windows but basically, can i create a shortcut to a specific folder. I know there are buttons linking to my documents, and on SPB plus you can have a link to my documents on your today screen, but can i choose a shortcut to a specific folder i have created, on my memory card, and put the shortcut on the today screen?
Thanks again again!

with the spb pocketplus plug-in, you can. click (and hold) on it and a dialog box will open, do the following:
choose Add/Remove Items...
choose Add (left softkey location)
choose Folder

RKeyScroll v0.4b - my gift to you - scroll any window with the keys

Hi !
Here's an utility to scroll the current window. And i do mean SCROLL, not jump page by page.
Since i got my first PPC, i didn't like the way you're supposed to read stuff, i wanted to scroll down, but pressing the down key jumped one page down. I wanted a smooth scroll, so i made one myself.
How it works:
1. Run the app
2. Minimize it (either with your favourite task manager or tap Start/Today) - DON'T CLOSE IT
3. From now on, the UP/DOWN keys scroll the content of the current window - smooth scroll
Volume Up / Volume Down also scroll (a bit faster) - this won't work on some devices that have custom use for the volume keys.
4. You can disable/enable when needed by mapping a button to RKeyScroll Switch (each tap switches between scroll mode / normal mode.
5. When you're finished with it, run it again, or activate it in your task manager and press ok in it (left softkey)
Limitations:
2. It doesn't work in Start/Programs and in Word/Excel (maybe Powerpoint) - I don't know why
If you find other programs (MAJOR PROGRAMS - WHICH MANY PEOPLE USE) that don't work, post here - please don't spam and don't post a program that doesn't need the scroll anyway.
I tested this on my Toshiba G900 (if scrolling with Volume keys, don't hold them pressed) and my wife's HTC Touch.
PS: thanks to Nagakubo Tomohiro (creator of PQz and PQzII) for trying to help.
Change Log:
Code:
0.04b - 26 June 2008
- command line options (by default the app has scroll enabled):
ss - switch scroll mode - only used if app is already running
son - turn scroll mode on - can also be used on startup
soff - turn scroll mode off - can also be used on startup
only use one command line option at a time
this is useful like this:
- In Windows/StartUp copy RKeyScroll Off.lnk to start the app every time the system starts with scrolling disabled
- In Windows/Start Menu/Programs there's RKeyScroll Switch.lnk -map this to a hardware button of your choice (thanks to fisch3009 for the idea)
- made the install easier - packed as a CAB - creates all shortcuts, for automatic startup you must copy manually
- G900 version has scroll switch mapped to camera tap (it cannot be remapped with windows anyway)
0.03b - 25 June 2008
- separate version for Toshiba G900 - this i can test on ;)
- fixed OK button on Toshiba G900
- when no scroll is possible, buttons do what they normally do
- added smoother scrolling on volume up/volume down
- changed the code to avoid future bugs ;)
- still a bug: when start menu/quick menu is opened, it still scrolls the window beneath
0.02b - 24 June 2008
- first release
Hope you like it !

If you want to get your finger in the way while reading something AND get your screen dirty, use TouchFLO or SPB Plus for finger scrolling
Great Idea! I'm looking for a automated "timer" type scroller? Where you put like 10 seconds in the setup, and it would automatically scroll a page every 10 (or whatever seconds). No need to touch screen or dpad...
This is very cool. I sometimes have trouble reading through my thumb
I notice it still tries to scroll in the application that it can control even when it is not the current focus application.
Could you make it deactivate when the focus program is something it doesn't work in?
Also make it run in the background so I don't have to run it everytime I want to use it.
E.g. when I am in IE and I activate QuickMenu it still scrolls IE and ignores QuickMenu. Also you mention it doesn't work in File Explorer, likewise in Total Commander you can see the scroll bar move but the screen doesn't scroll.
Possibly have an exemptions list similar to FTouchFlo (I can see you don't like this) so we can add programs that we prefer the D pad to work natively in. Also any chance of kinetic scrolling?
Keep it up!

It's already like this - you just run it once, minimize it, and change windows, it will scroll the active one (unless there are bugs )

I don't like the idea of an exception list - i want to keep this as simple as possible. On my Toshiba G900 i can disable the scrolling with the camera button - so this would solve the problem of using the DPad as a DPad when needed. I will see how I could add this functionality to other phones (i just need the camera button code)

Perhpas you can add an command line option to switch on and off the dpad scroll function, so everybody can map the software to his or her preferred hardwarebutton.

Perhaps you also fixed it in your new version. Tnx anyway.

Wow, fast development
Installs from CAB and maps to my camera button great.
The switch command doesn't turn it on and off, just opens the RKeyScroll dialogue the same as the RKeyScroll On command. Is this supposed to happen?
I would like it to start and run silently and not even show up in the running programs list and then stop when the switch command is run again.
BTW, still doesn't work in Total Commander for me.

Weird, for me the RKeyScroll Switch disables/enables the scroll and the window doesn't get activated(just like i programmed it to do).
Oh, I know. You're closing the app and then running RKeyScroll Switch. Don't click "OK" - this closes the app. Just minimize it, and then press the button mapped to "Switch" - it will work. It will not activate the window again.
About the silent start: That's how I want it to behave, but i got sleepy, so... 0.5b will probably do that.
Just a shameless bump

it is funny you mention because the question really is how to close opera. Once you have opened opera it stays on. the only thing is that you cannot see it in the task manager. they made it invisible so you can't kill the process. but now you also cant start it up from there. so when clicking the X you are minimizing the app. don't you think it starts fast when opening it for a second time. when new roms come without manilla, you will see it again in the task manager

just exit the program via the opera-menu then it really closes.

that still doesnt close it, if u use a proces monitor like Sktools u can still see Opera9.exe running, its even in the top 10 in mem usage. killing it in the process monitor doesnt seem to fix it either as the proces gets restarted somehow, but it does use lots less memory afterwards
I uses Touch Pro (Raphael) before switching to Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium), Opera minimizes visibly in Task Manager. But not in Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium). Now I know...
But is there a trick or 2 to modify the registry in Manila file(s)?
this would explain why sometimes as I'm moving offices etc and connecting to different wi-fi's sometimes although the wi-fi is connected it continues to use 3G.
I shutdown Opera and restart usually to try and force it to use the connected wi-fi but sometimes it just doesn't.
Turns out I'm not really shutting down opera hence why It continues to use it's original connection to 3G (not always though.)

I have been playing around with the registries and it seems there are some registry settings that you can change to prevent that
HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System
If you look into the above folder, you can find a list of apps that will run under exclusive, meaning they will not show up in the normal task manager. You will notice Opera9.exe is in there. If you remove the entry, you can now see Opera9.exe in the task list. But it still doesn't seem to terminate the process when you exit Opera. Hence for the first poster, if you just stop here, your Opera will minimize visibly to the tasklist once you click on the "X"
For those who want to further kill Opera when you click on "X", you need to go to
HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\TerminateProcess
Add a DWORD key (Opera9.exe) and set the value to 1. Now when you exit Opera, the process will be terminated and memory returned.
This works for me.
Cool~ Will try it out. Thanks so much!

is there ANY possibility of someone posting a screenshot of exactly what this looks like when it is typed in? I am so new and i dont want to mess up anything. Thanks.
But it opens very quickly when you want to use it again. Almost immediatly.
I just use cleanRAM a couple of times a day...Mostly after using opera
As far as I know opera keeps running is because push page is enabled.
Turn off push page in registry and reboot, then and it should not be always running in background.

Hello,
Sorry, it doesn't work for me
I've tryed every solution I found, I believe on registry settings, but all I found doesn't work, the opera9.exe process still become again and again, however I kill it, turn on the registry keys (RealExit, allready on), using the right menu of Opera for the built in "real" exit, killing Opera9.exe from different Task Manager (then OperaL.exe appears a few seconds, then Opera9.exe again), renaming file OperaL.exe to not be launched at startup -> another one was restored (more ancient) !
How is it possible to change any settings on a brower, or installing any plugin, if this one is always running ??
Thanks for help

Yes, you did it ! Woohoo !
Thanks a lot for this tip, it helps me !
In fact, I didn't need to install the NoPushInternet_v2.CAB of TinTin, but thanks to him ; the indication that there is a service to stop was suffisant for me. I set myself the PushInternet service to start manually, with FdcSoft Task Manager. After soft reset, Opera is not launched automatically !
I gain 5% of free memory.
In addition to that, Opera works better now, the splash screen of Opera Mobile appears when he starts, sign that it is really launched manually. And Flash Player runs now, that's great ! Sign that it is not possible to install a plugin when the browser is still running. And also, when minimized, Opera appear in the Task Manager menu of TF3D, great too.
Strangely, when I use the Opera menu to exit, it does not ! He's not minimized, but Opera9.exe is still running. But I can kill it and he doesn ot reappear.
Also, if I use the X button, Opera really exit ! So, all is allright
Anybody has an idea oon which process to chose to do the same with Activesync ?
Should be \Windows\repllog.exe ?

HD mini - no "x" function to stop the program

Which setting (in advanced config. tool) does that?
missing x
- htc task manager -> auto kill
maybe use arkswicht.
What I do if I want to see the X button?
I think it correct with a change in registry.
I also installed a task manager program that controled from X button position, but it does not work.
I have a serious problem with it.
Hi all,
I had same behaviour, and usually use the x button. But in HD mini all this things changed and I has been disapointed for a while, but...
For office and other applications, you use the back <- hardware key instaed of "x" ou "ok" button. The only difference is that the application is not taken away of memory, it remains minimized.
If you want close one or more apps, knowing the fact you have a lot more RAM than on Diamond for example and you do not have to close every time the applications, you can yuse the integrated Task Manager tapping on top bar and then Task Manager button.
I found a solution to bring back the missing X button
With a registry editor got to HKLM->Software->Microsoft->Shell->BubbleTiles and set HardwareDoneKeyEnabled to 0 and HardwareStartKeyEnabled to 0. You will have
the X/Ok button back but also the win key on the bottom left will be back too. If you won't enable the winkey, the softkeys won't be centered and it looks ugly.
Also set TextModeEnabled to 0 in order to have icons instead of text in softkeys. The hardware buttons work normally like before. Hope i helped
Thanks, I've done that but doesn't seem to work. When I press X it minimizes the program instead of closing it. I check the task manager and is still running
this is standard for x, "x" never exit programs for real, was just a new function later on TD or newer to close programs with the x button....so I think "exit programs by pressing x" is another regkey you need to enable, without this, it´s standard "x" function, and that was always "minimize"
Thanks for the explanation
No there is no reg key to change the function of the X key. The only way to change the function of the X key (to really close apps instead of minimise them) is via a program such as xtask, wktask, ameba ect. In these programs there is an option to make X button close apps. Ameba is the most simple app to use. Just search for it
Doesn't the "end call"-button exit apps on the mini?

No problem here with any of the icons I can see. Which one did you mean?
whn u put the "phone" button. you can see that there is one keypad button at the centre, then on the left and right.. there seem to be 2 icon. being overlap..
No overlap here; I do see the text of 'people' slightly cut off due to the narrower button next to the Start button

A really Working invisible X button

Install the attached HTC X-button application. Activate it under settings/system. But nothing happens after this
NOW if u wish to close an application just tap on system clock the application will get closed.
It is is a temp. solution until anyone figure out how to make the X visible.

Yes that's what X button is supposed to do in Windows Mobile. You can install an application like ameba or xtask or wktask ect. to make the X button to close the running app instead of minimising it. The problem in Hd mini was that there wasn't any visible X button. Htc hide it. With the registry changes i gave you, you can unhide the X button and make it (with an app mentioned above) really close the running apps. I think it's better to close an app by pressing the X button than pressing the clock
Thx MAN! This is what i need it..
What we need is the "full" top line from the earlier windows version (HD2) to replace the mini's, all we need is then to add Dutty's task manager
Anyone know how to do that ?
seems the Mini has it's own task manager built in and no top start icon or X as it now has hardware-soft keys...... What genius at Microsoft allows their developers to change things that have always been standard since Day one !
Just like the functionality of Vista/win 7 is downhill from XP,
just tried a taskbar program called "wktask" which works quite well with hdmini. it adds a list of running applications at the top bar with adjustable length to cope with the original icons (viz. time, signal, bluetooth, etc.). tapping a listed application to active it. tap and hold a menu with close option will be shown.
it also add a "x" button but I personally have disabled it because it can lead to accidentally terminating the windows application page.
there are many other options to suit your needs.
I tried "WKTASK" but it covers and blocks the original taskbar, shame as it has some nice features. It's not a resolution thing as it does not work on the higher resolution HD2
Seems for Me all I need is a hack to add the "start" and "X" as the Mini has a more functional taskbar than the earlier builds (task manager, battery info etc)
you can using ameba
