I'm on O2 in the UK, and since Christmas, I have been irritated by calls every couple of weeks from two or three numbers. They will ring a dozen times over the course of an hour and all I get is a slow beep beep beep when I answer. It may sound minor but it is driving me up the wall. There is no means of finding out who is doing it, I have Googled and Googled - all it shows up is these are well known nuisance calls and others suffer the same.
What can I do - is there some means of barring those particular numbers? Can someone recommend some third party software which would do the trick?
I have registered with TPS, but it makes no difference.
Any suggestions?
TIA

Download something called Magicall.
thanks, already downloaded and I'll give it a try.
rjstep3
I also found a free alternative, http://www.pocketpcfreeware.mobi/download-call-firewall-v1-4.html
Maybe you could test this as well (since you have plenty of test opportunities) and let us know how that works
magicall is my first choice. it's able to block calls silently
Call firewall works great on my hd2. Been looking for a while for a call blocker.
Doesnt ring, but lights up the phone, and gives me the missed call notification.
No idea how it will handle blocking sms, but we can wait and see.
For free software, does brilliantly
I've gone and loaded Magicall now, so will try that first.
The nuisance callers only call every two weeks or so, and since I have had this fortnight's quota of nuisance calls today - sigh - I'm going to have to wait a couple of weeks before seeing if it does the business.
thanks for the suggestions anyways
rjstep3
being the trial on magicall 10days, it may not last until next time
OK - Plan B: load Magicall on my Touch HD in time for the next attack of nuisance calls and use the freeware option on the HD2!!
rjstep3
I decided to buy Magicall - it seems to do more than the freeware product plus starts automatically on reboot.
Just had a series of nuisance calls and it worked like a dream.
rjstep3
you could call O2 and ask them very nicely to block the numbers and they will normally oblige without hesitation. If had seen this thread sooner i would have suggested it and maybe saved you some cash but it may help future people searching for the answer.

O2won't do that - they say it is impossible because they do not keep a record of numbers in so cannot block calls.
The whole nuisance call thing is very vexing - there is in practical terms nothing you can do about it. TPS won't investigate individual complaints, Ofcom will just take a record of your complaint and won't investigate individual complaints, the Information Commissioner's Office won't investigate unless you can say who it is who is bugging you, which of course you can't, it is either caller unknown or just a number. Very vexing as I say - I am seriously tempted to take it further.

If they don't keep a record of the numbers then how do they manage to connect any calls in the first place? i think you've been fobbed off there mate but i'm not surprised. We are talking about a network that house all their primary systems, without any redundency, in one building. I think you will remember what happened about 2 months ago now concerning said building, a builder, his shovel and a power cable.
All good points MP3H - but that is what they told me.
Actually Ofcom told me to persist and that the person handling the call wouldn't help and I would have to write in and that sort of thing is handled at a senior level - sort of like protection for VIPS and celebs and that sort of thing. I wanted instant relief, a not painful experience of writing to my mobile operator - and we all know how protracted and painful that can be ...
You could well be right - I can't believe that technology cannot bar a series of numbers, it must be possible.
rjstep3
I got MagiCall for the same reasons and I can honestly say it was worth buying... does calls by Known numbers, Unknown numbers, contacts etc plus does the same for texts... you can decide what is done and I really like the way it can deal with those who with hold their caller ID, it just hangs up on them with slightly annoying beep at their end.... defo worth the investment..

for that, you can add the .lnk to the program in windows\startup, anyway I also checked out the complete feature list of magicall, and it completely outsmarts the freeware program

When I had a smart (Nokia 6600), used answering machine "Smart Answer".
Now PDA XDA IIi (WM 2003SE).
It is necessary for me, that the program " Hangs Up " at an entering call, reproduced the text, and finished conversation.
Who can help me to find such program?
answering machine is absolutely impossible on your device
why impossible for this device?
try doing a search for answering mashine or something why it's not possible with wm pda phones is described many times in the forum
try doing a search for answering mashine or something why it's not possible with wm pda phones is described many times in the forum
Probably, there are answering machines which work by such principle?:
it is necessary for me only, that:
-phone automatically " Hangs Up " (well if would be possible to set an autorespond by the certain quantity of hooters)
-... And through certain time (5-6min) - " finished conversation "
Can someone tell me about it?
I think he means he just wants to controll the answering and hanging up. Thats relitively simple.
I am working on something now that will have that functionality incorporated in its settings. I can't give a definite time but if you dont find anything else try here again in a couple of months.
OdeeanRDeathshead
Very well! I am very glad, that there are people who can really help.
I with impatience shall wait on the program as in a network I can not find such with similar functions.
If it will be necessary to pay your diligence, I shall be glad to help!
All the same can somebody help me?

Dear OdeeanRDeathshead,
how at you business with programming the program are?
Sorry, but I just can't understand that  .
If you want my progress then.... What I am doing dose something else as its main thing, so that will take a while. For me the auto hangup is more of a safegaurd against never hanging up which would be expensive. I have read your posts again and it just becomes more un-clear. (No offence but) Please get someone to help you ask more clearly what you want and I may be able to add it in my product.
OdeeanRDeathshead
Thanks for so prompt replies!
Means, if it is possible, I shall describe procedure for what the program with such functions is necessary to me:
I live in Ukraine. As a matter of fact we have two largest operators of cellular communication who are monopolists. I, being the subscriber at both, use their services. The first operator - Ukraine Mobile Communication (UMC), the second Kyivstar.
At first operator UMC at me a subscription is unlimited (it the company in which I work pays), that is I talk, not worrying about spent time.
And the second package deal - at operator Kyivstar. My children use them.
Kyivstar represents such kind of services - as a payment of money for my account for entrance calls, that is to me pay money that someone dials my number and talks. But me charge money...
And so, it is necessary for me, that I could dial the number from time to time Kyivstar from the unlimited UMC, and for it to me will charge money for my account.
And for automation of process as to have to dial the number automatically each 5 minutes, and accordingly, it is necessary for someone to lift a tube(Hang Up) on other end, and the program for autorise is necessary to me.
That is it is necessary, that on XDA IIi the program at an entering call automatically accepted a call, and through set time (5-6 minutes) - laid down a tube(Hang Down).
Earlier when at the daughter was Nokia 6600, there were no problems (used Smart Answer). But now, when to it is necessary for work with PDA, I do not find programs in which there are such functions.
It is necessary:
The program on PDA at an entrance call automatically lifted a tube(hangup), and through the set time interval finished conversation.
In advance I am sorry for my bad English.

OdeeanRDeathshead,
Do You add this function to your product?
I am still having a little trouble clearly understanding. Here is what it seems like....
either:
1)you want a program to answer a call then some time later hang up.
or
2)you just want a program to hang up calls after 5 minutes.
or
3)you want two programs, 1 to dial every 5 minutes and one to answer then hang up after 5 minutes.(at different ends)
Well I spent a couple of hours tonight modifying some stuff to help with some of this. I did two versions
version 1.
http://odeean.veritel.com.au/ORDTapiUser/ORDcallKill.exe
will just hang up automatically after just under 5 minutes (280000 milliseconds actually).
version 2.
http://odeean.veritel.com.au/ORDTapiUser/ORDcallKill2.exe
will wait 8 seconds then answer the call. It will then wait about 5 minutes then hang up.
These have NO interface. When you run them there will be no ongoing sign that they are there. Please remember that you may only run one of these at a time. The coding is just the bare bones of what was needed to do its thing, if you run it twice it will not check if it is running and a second instance will go. This will give unpredictable results. To stop them you must soft reset your device. Sorry about that, but I just did not want to spend much time on this. when you run them a warning will pop up followed by a message asking what device to use, only press yes to the phone (normally cellular line).
I have tested these and they work for me. I would like to know if they work for you. The version that dose not auto accept a call but still hangs it up relies on a strange behaviour in tapi on ppc that in my opinion is a bug. For this reason the life of this code may be short (i have not tested it on wm2005 and do not expect it to work on it. I dose work with previous versions).
If you want a program to do the auto dialling it is easy enough, but I did not want to spend time making a gui and I was still a bit unclear on what you want anyway.
In the US we have a system available in some cars called OnStar. The system, among many other things, is able to detect a crash and automatically contact emergency services. I guess cell phones are cutting into their profit margin because they've started running radio advertisements saying "What if you're in an accident and you can't reach your phone?"
Well that got me thinking... what if you can't reach your phone? And that gave me an idea... we can make a "clone" of OnStar.
Details
Many of our phones have G-Sensors. There is already an app out there to measure acceleration and G-Force.
We can create an app that you run in the car (perhaps hooked up with a car kit, windshield mount, etc). The app monitors acceleration/deceleration and G-Forces. When it detects a crash (instant deceleration and/or huge spike in G-Force), it plays a loud warning tone and displays a large "Cancel" button. If the cancel button is not pressed within a certain time period (15, 20, 30 seconds), it automatically calls 911 (or equivalent emergency number) and turns on speakerphone.
I can start the development of this myself, but certain things (e.g. the deceleration/G-Force measurement) I will need help with.
Before I start development I would like to gauge how much interest there would be in something like this.
I think it's a wornderful idea!
I can contribuite with the development if you need some help, but for the mathematics I suggest to contact some developer who already worked with such stuffs.
Marshall
The idea is good, but should be activated by user (i know, if he forgets...) : Imagine the problem if the device in in a suitcase or attache case, and the bag fall down (or is striked... )... The emergencies will be called just for a falling of bag... and the cancel button won't be seen...
I think this should be enabled (maybe by a profiler like G-profile or SBSH PhoneWeaver ???)
Anyway ,the idea is good !
that's definitely an excellent idea guys !!!!
I'm looking forward to this And if you need any help on the graphics, I can help you maybe
Surely a nice Idea.
To prevent false alarms a few other things could be taken into account, like sound level - If there is a sudden increase in sound level (crash whatever) or if it detected a "crash" it requires you shouting / using some voice command like features or whatever.
This is an phenomenal idea! Please do it. You guys could actually save lives with something like this. How many software ideas can actually save your life. Not sure if Onstar does this, but maybe have feature where, after it calls emergency assistance, it then calls your emergency contacts with message stating you have been in an accident and gives them your location if you have GPS enabled device.
so, i've no doubt that many of you have been using your HD2's for a while now, during your experiences have you noticed any one significant problem? For example, the SMS sending issue or maybe with push email on the battery life is awefull?
What is your single biggest issue with it?
The biggest issue for me was the SMS problem. Now fully corrected by HTC. I'm proud of my little Leo I use mine with email in push all the day, and I've about 30% at the end of the day, using my phone every minute
My only real issue is the ultra slow messaging system. Not the sending bug which is apparently fixed. This is just where it takes forever to load your messages making you wait before you can type and send your message!
Very irritating problem but not a show stopper! Still loving the phone
I get 2-3 days of light use(Dont use it much at work just texting) and at least 1 day of heavier use(sitting browsing the web, playing music etc on the weekends). I have a second battery with me most of the time just incase i let it run out
There's tons of information already on here to help you make your own decision.
The question YOU have to answer is whether there are any deal breakers for you from the stacks of info that is already on here. This thread, for example, is a good place to start...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
There are just so many threads on here now where people are effectively asking others to make a buying decision for them/asking exactly the same thing. The unique features of the HD2 will remain the same no matter how many times this question gets asked.
At the end of the day, whether you buy or not is entirely down to you.
WB
i've read that thread, usefull but far from concise. I am of course reading taking particular interest in this sub-forum, reading much of it but....
I'm not looking for what "most" people are looking for. I've left this fairly open ended question in the hope(?) that someone will mention what is a fairly unobvious to the masses issue but is a serious issue for them.
I'm looking for something that might be silly and therefore probably not mentioned by most of you but could stop it for me. I don't know what "it" might be but for example it could be that you can't put delivery receipts on a text message ....
I will be using ALL the functions of this phone and I wan't to try to eliminate any suprises!
Power hungry!
For me it's the power hungry nature of this beast. You can actually watch the battery draining right before your eyes if you are using it to surf or watch movies. I was shocked just how fast it drains.
Got a second battery now which I keep with me at all times. Batteries are the achilles heels of these powerful mini devices and I am very much looking forward to the new 3D lithium ion batteries becoming widely available as this will surely revolutionise mobile phones. Sorry going off topic there!
Can't say there's one MAIN problem, but it takes a lot of work to get it set up and running how you want it to, especially if you are unfamiliar with Winmo as I am
Hello again,
I quite understand where you are coming from but the approach I would have taken would be to make a private list of all the functions the device absolutely must have for you to be happy with it then confirm there aren't any issues with those functions through the info on here, sufficient for you to say no.
The key thing you have to remember, which new adopters from other devices don't realise, is that the HD2 isn't really a phone in the traditional sense. Its more like a small computer with telephony and messaging capability added on.
It therefore has much in common with the behaviours of a Windows computer (not surprising really as the OS is a "miniturised" version of windows). What kills it for a lot of people is that they expect it to behave exactly like a Nokia phone which it won't.
For many of us who have used winmobile devices for years, the things that may well be deal breakers for you just would not come up on our radar, hence my suggestion above of a different approach from you to get to a decision point. Being able to tweak the device, for example is a major plus as this gives great flexibility to customise the device. That attraction for me is a major deal breaker for others.
I would wager that there is a direct correlation between the numbers of people new to the winmobile platform and the number of posts on here expressing dissatisfaction with the device in one shape or form (SMS issue aside, of course).
Hope this is helpful.
WB
Indeed it is WB! very welcome and very helpfull.
Been in WinMo for years and very skilled with it so its not a new device to me.
Also spent many years in support roles so very adept at extracting relevant info from a mass of other stuff.

It's a great device, but before buying one, I'd suggest to test it if you have the possibility...
In eastern Europe there were very many faulty devices; was unlucky to get one myself...
thanks but won't have that issue, we are very well protected in the UK when buying from a shop.
If you have experience with past WM devices, then the HD2 will blow your socks off!
I've had WM since my MPX200 back in 2004, and the HD2 is by far the best WM device ever, even with it's few minor niggles (and be realistic, what phone doesn't have niggles?).
Well, my main issue was the crappy messaging but with the latest sms-hotfix that is also corrected! No more issues now... loving it every single minute!
No Voice control over bluetooth
Have had an HD2 for a few weeks now, and while it’s a great machine in most respects, the main deficiency for me is the lack of voice control over bluetooth. It's mentioned in quite a few other threads.
I ride a motorcycle and have used a helmet mounted scala-rider headset with a Dopod 838Pro for a couple of years (mostly for initiating and receiving phone calls, but occasionally having messages or calendar entries read out).
The lack of this function on the HD2 is a major drawback for me, and I imagine anyone for whom voice control is important (eg. if you drive/ride a lot).
Have had WinMo since before there were WinMo phones (HP 620lx, then XDA II, then JasJar, JasJam and now HD2) and I bought an iPhone 3GS (surreptitiously for my girlfriend) to see what all the fuss is about and to see for myself if the device is as good as the fanboys in my office gush on about.
I hate the way it's all locked-in to iTunes and you can't really tweak things to the level we're used to with WinMo, but everything "just works" (wi-fi, voice control, SMS conversation mode etc.)
If the voice control isn't enabled in an imminent ROM update I may have to consider selling my HD2 and begrudgingly keep the iPhone for myself.
Just my opinion – hope that helps with your decision.
For anyone with a previous satisfactory experince of winmo it's a no brainer...go for it! I personally had all sorts of problems years back with an Orange MDA and was slightly nervous about going down that road again but so far my HD2 has lived upto and exceeded all of my expectations. My requirements boil down to:
Must work well with a bluetooth headset in a noisy place (I drive a truck)..it does!
Obviously must function well as a phone..it wouldn't be any good if I couldn't speak to anyone but no problems whatsoever on that count!
Must have decent internet access...it does (grabbing e-mails and surfing all day)
Must let me tweak it to add various apps..it does (6 sat nav progs and still adding them!)
Texts I use very infrequently as its easier just to speak but the texts I send and recieve seem to be fine (and thats without any hotfix applied!)
My only slight concern is battery life but as I'm near a charger all day long its no biggy and I've yet to address this with any of the tweaks floating about.
thats my twopenneth..
just seen the post above me...I use Cyberon Voice Speed Dial which works fine for me but as I have to tap a button on my headset to fire it up I guess it's not much use for you (unless you drill a hole in the side of your shoei so you can prod a button)
Retraction time...owing to a PM from Lordbowl I've just checked and it would appear that CVSD actually uses the mike on the HD2 and not the one on my bluetooth headset to obtain the info about which contact I want to call so it's not much use if you are wearing a helmet!

To be honest, if you are lucky you may end up with a zero faults device, but you my also consider, that you may have the sms problem which is not solved as many here seem to say.
Also you may get the pink spot that even with htc fix it will still there but not as ovieuse.
Also you must take in consideration that you cannot trust your future phone for making calls, because some times he does not wake up.
And must take in consideration that you may end up with the noise bug while in a call. plus many littel other bugs that you can live with (extrimily difficult to type, with out faults) the screen is over sensitive......Hope it helps for your desition
Audio Booster
Since the SMS outbox bug was fixed yesterday there is only 1 bug that irritates the crap out of me... Audio Booster needs to be re-enabled for every song that is played using Audio Manager unless you want untouched EQ.
I have tried setting AB & hitting "Done"/Home/Back but whatever I do it still dies after 1 or 2 tracks.
HTC reassure me this is to be fixed in a future release otherwise I would be looking for other alternatives.
I think the HD2 is a fantastic piece of kit but let down by HTC's bugginess.
Sorry for not updating, not got an HD2 now so kind of forgot about this...For those who maybe still experiencing problems...

Really wierd one this. Last night, I was woken by a repetitive voice telling me that "International dialling is not currently permitted from this device". As this was at aprox' 02.40 on Suday AM, it fair shook me out of a deep sleep! On checking the phone I found the following call history:
+88213213214 @ 02:44
+88213213214 @ 02:36
+1(767)503-3611 @ 02 36

+1(767)503-3611 @ 02:36
+8823460777 @ 02:35
I have absolutely no idea who or what these numbers are for (Google suggests +882 may be something to do with satellite phones(!?) & +1767 appears to be a Dominican country code(!!??) but it was very unnerving to see my phone has been trying to ring these without any input from me. I'll be onto Virgin mobile later to see if they can help but thought I'd try the collective wisdom of you guys first. Virus / dialler maybe? Do these even exist for win mo phones? Any help wil be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Curioser & curioser...
Hmmm, just got off the phone with VM CSR & have had it confirmed that they had another instance of this happening last night. I have ensured that I have not been charged for these calls, have imposed a credit limit of £30.00 on my account & had them set up a service whereby they text me if I get to this limit. I have also ensured that the actual numbers dialled have been logged into my account at VM for future reference. A quick look around the web by my son shows that this may be a scam involving something called "party lines" - never heard of them but some poor bugger in the states has been caned for $282.00!! Thank God my international & premium lines are barred...for now. He got this info from typing "800 notes" into google. Hope this helps someone avoids getting stung by these b*****ds.
Not sure it is related but as was already reported in other threads, some HD2 devices do have a "ghost typer" problem. This has also brought mine to call numbers from my history list in the middle of the night.
I think I now know the reason and, for me, it most probably lies in using a low quality power unit to charge my phone during the night. Unplugged or using a more expensive HTC branded power supply the ghost typer problem vanished immediately.
Ghost calls also occur with certain headphones. Last number in the call history gets called automagically. Also does it ffwd ffbw & pause / play the music tab.

Hi, thanks again for looking in. zelidar - I use the HTC charger on a night as it's next to my bed & also, the numbers dialled, have never been dialled by me before. koteski - I use a different set of headphones from he supplied stock kit, some Shure in ear things but these weren't attached when these "phantom" calls occurred (& they don't have inline ffwd or rew controls on). Again, the numbers called had never been dialled by me so they cannot be random "redials". Cheers again though Odd though how the VM CSR said he had never heard of this until my call & then admitted that 1 other incidence of this had been reported the same day...

This is interesting. I was driving home the other night, had my HD2 plugged into the aux port on my car as I wanted to test what it was like playing music in the car. It was fine on the way over (and the day before), but on the way home every time 'ABC - The Look of Love' played, the audio would keep muting, I'd look at the phone and see it was calling the last number on my call list! What the hell!
Thank god I noticed in time, because if the other party (poss work related) had heard me singing along to that song I'd have been screwed.
I had no idea why it was happening at first, so I switched the phone on and off and it just continued to happen.
Absolutely ridiculous bug... what's the solution to this??
And OP - thanks for bringing your issue to everyone's attention, you've reminded me to put international call blocking on my account and a credit limit. If all it takes is a cheesy 80s song to dial UK mobile numbers, god only knows what a cheesy 90s song will do next.

lol...Your HD2 may have been worried you would start cavorting round in wide shouldered shiny jackets with your sleeves rolled up, baggy trousers, pastel coloured t shirts, slip on espadrilles (I was in the 80's too) & tried to save you the humiliation. Glad this may have helped & saved someone else from an unexpected telephonic dry reaming from their operator.
Google suggests +882 may be something to do with satellite phones(!?)

Actually +882 is not the code for satellite phones (+881 is the official code for satellite phones, Iridium satellite phones for example have +8816 and +8817).
+88 (00 88) is the international code for Bangladesh.
had the same calls on my phone last night @ 3.55! the same numbers. i woke up and saw how my phone tried to call the numbers. are there more people with this problem? will do an antivirus check and may be put a new rom on it (hd2)

Same problem here, the exact same numbers in the exact same order. (12:23-12:25 AM GMT+3 Romania)
I have LG KS20 with original French rom (WM6).
I'm pretty sure I have none of those programes installed.
Auto Dial
I have a stock ROM ATT Tilt2
This AM I powered on my phone and as soon as it loaded it attempted to dial 88213213214 I was able to stop the call since the phone was still in my hand. As I pressed on an icon to start PowerOptions to softreset my phone, then the phone attempted to dial 17675033611. I once again stopped the call. I turned off my phone and restarted it.....nothing else thus far. Like others I have never dialed any of the number prior.
My phone just tried dial one of these numbers again, pretty much 12 hours exactly after it first happened, I've already had t mobile bar outgoing internaional calls but this is ridiculous.
Ok I just googled those numbers and found this, doesnt make much sense to me but it explains what these numbers are, why my phone wants to call them though is beyond me

Hi
Had my HD2 for about 6 months and found it to be a great phone, thanks mainly to this great community and the work done here. There are a couple of things I need that I havent found, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
First i need something to record work mileage, as i need to keep records for my tax return. I have seen a few things on the web, but nothing thats really 'touch' friendly. It would also be great if it could log the mileage using GPS, rather than entering the start and end mileage every time. Or perhaps there is some other type of GPS software that could do something similar?
Second I could do with something that can control what sound is passed to the hands free ear piece when it is plugged in, and what is sent to the phones speaker. I use the phone as a satnav in the car, and would like the sound from that, as well as notification sounds, output throught the phone speaker as normal, but still have the hands free work during a call. I have no idea if this is possible or not, but it would be useful!
Any ideas much appreciated!
Here's a piece of software I found with a quick search on google, paid app, has an odometer built in but not too sure on the logging aspect of your request

What about http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/GPS/GPS-LOG-16982.shtml?
For recording mileage I use Navigon, it has that function built-in besides the navigation.
You have to enter the start mileage and tap private or business before every trip, but that's the only way to get a correct record.
It logs the driven miles okay.
I'm very happy with it
None of those are quite what I'm looking for, I don't really want to run satnav all the time if I can avoid it. I did find something called Nettmiles (http://www.nettmiles.co.uk/) but the downloads don't work. Has anyone tried this app?
Might give GPS Speed Sentry ago though, looks like it could be quite useful and I don't really like RadarFree
