Really wierd one this. Last night, I was woken by a repetitive voice telling me that "International dialling is not currently permitted from this device". As this was at aprox' 02.40 on Suday AM, it fair shook me out of a deep sleep! On checking the phone I found the following call history:
+88213213214 @ 02:44
+88213213214 @ 02:36
+1(767)503-3611 @ 02 36
+1(767)503-3611 @ 02:36
+1(767)503-3611 @ 02:36
+8823460777 @ 02:35
I have absolutely no idea who or what these numbers are for (Google suggests +882 may be something to do with satellite phones(!?) & +1767 appears to be a Dominican country code(!!??) but it was very unnerving to see my phone has been trying to ring these without any input from me. I'll be onto Virgin mobile later to see if they can help but thought I'd try the collective wisdom of you guys first. Virus / dialler maybe? Do these even exist for win mo phones? Any help wil be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Just doing that now, thanks for the advice, I'll post any results once the scans done.

Curioser & curioser...

Hmmm, just got off the phone with VM CSR & have had it confirmed that they had another instance of this happening last night. I have ensured that I have not been charged for these calls, have imposed a credit limit of £30.00 on my account & had them set up a service whereby they text me if I get to this limit. I have also ensured that the actual numbers dialled have been logged into my account at VM for future reference. A quick look around the web by my son shows that this may be a scam involving something called "party lines" - never heard of them but some poor bugger in the states has been caned for $282.00!! Thank God my international & premium lines are barred...for now. He got this info from typing "800 notes" into google. Hope this helps someone avoids getting stung by these b*****ds.

Not sure it is related but as was already reported in other threads, some HD2 devices do have a "ghost typer" problem. This has also brought mine to call numbers from my history list in the middle of the night.
I think I now know the reason and, for me, it most probably lies in using a low quality power unit to charge my phone during the night. Unplugged or using a more expensive HTC branded power supply the ghost typer problem vanished immediately.

Ghost calls also occur with certain headphones. Last number in the call history gets called automagically. Also does it ffwd ffbw & pause / play the music tab.

Hi, thanks again for looking in. zelidar - I use the HTC charger on a night as it's next to my bed & also, the numbers dialled, have never been dialled by me before. koteski - I use a different set of headphones from he supplied stock kit, some Shure in ear things but these weren't attached when these "phantom" calls occurred (& they don't have inline ffwd or rew controls on). Again, the numbers called had never been dialled by me so they cannot be random "redials". Cheers again though Odd though how the VM CSR said he had never heard of this until my call & then admitted that 1 other incidence of this had been reported the same day...

This is interesting. I was driving home the other night, had my HD2 plugged into the aux port on my car as I wanted to test what it was like playing music in the car. It was fine on the way over (and the day before), but on the way home every time 'ABC - The Look of Love' played, the audio would keep muting, I'd look at the phone and see it was calling the last number on my call list! What the hell!
Thank god I noticed in time, because if the other party (poss work related) had heard me singing along to that song I'd have been screwed.
I had no idea why it was happening at first, so I switched the phone on and off and it just continued to happen.
Absolutely ridiculous bug... what's the solution to this??
And OP - thanks for bringing your issue to everyone's attention, you've reminded me to put international call blocking on my account and a credit limit. If all it takes is a cheesy 80s song to dial UK mobile numbers, god only knows what a cheesy 90s song will do next.
Edit: 1.66.405.2 (76641) WWE, 2.09.51.03_2

lol...Your HD2 may have been worried you would start cavorting round in wide shouldered shiny jackets with your sleeves rolled up, baggy trousers, pastel coloured t shirts, slip on espadrilles (I was in the 80's too) & tried to save you the humiliation. Glad this may have helped & saved someone else from an unexpected telephonic dry reaming from their operator.

Google suggests +882 may be something to do with satellite phones(!?)

Actually +882 is not the code for satellite phones (+881 is the official code for satellite phones, Iridium satellite phones for example have +8816 and +8817).
+88 (00 88) is the international code for Bangladesh.

had the same calls on my phone last night @ 3.55! the same numbers. i woke up and saw how my phone tried to call the numbers. are there more people with this problem? will do an antivirus check and may be put a new rom on it (hd2)

Yep, had this last night too, 12am GMT, same numbers as OP.
Mines a t mobile stock rom, had no such problems before, ran a kaspersky check which revealed nothing! gonna phone t mobile later and see what they say.
edit; just noticed some 3rd party apps which i have in common with the op,

Same problem here, the exact same numbers in the exact same order. (12:23-12:25 AM GMT+3 Romania)
I have LG KS20 with original French rom (WM6).
I'm pretty sure I have none of those programes installed.

Auto Dial
I have a stock ROM ATT Tilt2
This AM I powered on my phone and as soon as it loaded it attempted to dial 88213213214 I was able to stop the call since the phone was still in my hand. As I pressed on an icon to start PowerOptions to softreset my phone, then the phone attempted to dial 17675033611. I once again stopped the call. I turned off my phone and restarted it.....nothing else thus far. Like others I have never dialed any of the number prior.

My phone just tried dial one of these numbers again, pretty much 12 hours exactly after it first happened, I've already had t mobile bar outgoing internaional calls but this is ridiculous.
Ok I just googled those numbers and found this, doesnt make much sense to me but it explains what these numbers are, why my phone wants to call them though is beyond me

working alarm?

anyone know of an alarm app which actually works? (for wm5).
i use AlarmMe 3 on my old jam and its never let me down.. sadly, this app cant wake up wm5.
What do you mean? The regular alarm applications works just fine in my Jamin
alarm...
especially if you utilise some of the custom "sounds" around, I downloaded a firetruck, a rooster, a really loud whistle, and also the wonderful sounds of birds.
The birds struggle to wake me, but the rooster and the firetruck certainly get the job done.
If you cant find them, let me know and I can upload.

I think the problem isn't so much the user not waking up - as it is the device not going out of standby
Two sure-fit solutions are...
1. Use an alarm application that wakes your device up to full. There is a tweak app available (modifies the registry, really), that will do this as well:
http://www.burroak.on.ca/ptafaq.html#wakeuptweak
Please note that you may experience your PocketPC turning on (and back off) randomly, making the screen appear to 'flash' all the time.
2. Don't put your PocketPC in standby mode / don't let it go to standby mode automatically.
Instead, download an application with which you can turn the display off (not just the backlight, or you'll risk LCD 'burn-in'). Never miss any alarm/notification/etc. that way. You're draining only a few percent more battery over the course of 8 hours - which, if you're using it to wake up with, you should probably have it hooked up to the charger so that it's nice and full when you wake up anyway
sorry people, didnt realise that this was the prophet forum, i picked it from the recent activity list.
mine is the universal, and it always wakes up, the alarm always sounds perfectly, and the birds not waking me up simply cause i also have birds outside the bedroom window, so they kinda get mixed up in my head.
the rooster or firetruck guaranteed to work, if you can get your device to wake up first perhaps. as i said, mine always wakes up. dont know enough of the prophet issues to help here, sorry.
no problem - the thread I referred to is for the Wizard as well anyway
It's probably a problem with a driver not having implemented the power states correctly. But nobody knows which driver, or what may be implemented wrong. Microsoft are even aware of the issue but are basically pointing to their power state guidelines and telling the developers to implement them correctly.
Of course power states are a mess, so who knows what a 'correct' implementation is, really
maybe we should diffferentiate two distinct problems here:
1.) the device is not coming up from sleep - regardless of the application, which wants to fire an alarm, etc. That's obviously the ancient problem, we already had with the XDA II ... where alarms don't get managed fully on that midnight "housekeeping", for which the device starts up into "suspended" mode ... maybe solvable by setting HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\Timeouts\BattResumingSuspendTimeout (and imho also ...\ACResumingSuspendTimeout) to something bigger than those default 30 sec, which isn't enough for people with many appointments, etc.
But for this there shurely can be found some more detailed posts here in the forum.
2.) the original poster, fastest, was talking about an old application (which I also used for long time) AlarMe, which doesn't work anymore on WM5! And the developer, eppen software, isn't responding. It still is installable, it still runs - it even still wakes up the device (as far as I remember), *but* it doesn't play any sounds anymore.
Meanwhile I switched to Chronos from www.activekitten.com.
Nearly the same, even some more functionality, with maybe a little different philosophy / user expirience ... but works great for me (and I'm in contact with the developer regarding the newest beta-cycle, where I also asked for some features, I miss since AlarMe ;-) ).
i use Spb Time and it works very without any error or mistake....

My first WM device - NIKE. What now?

Hi guys! This is my first post so i will introduce myself. I am Pawel from Poland Enough for now.
I just bouhgt NIKE for my wife. This is her (and mine) first WM touch device. It has Orange version of WM 6.0. Now few questions...
Is there 6.1 WM with Polish? I could not find any. Or is it possible to upload some english 6.1 ROM and then upload only language pack (i am doing this now with my motorola maxx and previously with siemens SX1 - symbian device)?
Also can you sugest me most stable and without any extra apps ROM (that will work really fast)? My wife wont use this phone for anything beside making calls, sms/mms, listening to music and maybe for movies from time to time (during longer travels via train or bus). So no need for some uber software. Of course office mobile must be there too - she needs to know when train goes! And as you know - for student possibility to use docs, ppt or excel at any given time is priceless
Cheers!
I recommend slowing down and just using the phone as is for the time being - you won't know what you need out of a ROM until you know what's wrong with the current one, if indeed, anything is wrong with it for you.
Having said that, if it's only going to be used for sending texts and making calls, I would not bother messing with the ROM at all. As good as most of the chefs are, I always find there is something wrong with every single one I've tried on various devices. Sometimes, it's only a minor thing they forgot, sometimes, it's a big thing they forgot.
Either way, your wife will probably get tired of you constantly messing with her phone - just like mine does ;-)
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Maybe you are right So far we have noticed lack of proper alarm clock app... Free AlarmClock 0.0.4 and voila Also Solitaire is in action now... After few days of really extensive use of Dual i can say one thing - all infos about how often it crashes, hangs, drops calls etc is bu****it. We didnt noticed one single bad thing in funcionality of Nike. And by extensive use i mean morning charge and evening - 10% juice left (tops)
And how long battery lasts when you use it like normall phone (dont play with it for hours )? Overnight it dropped like 6 or 7%... So it should stay at least 4-5 days i believe (during daytime there are incoming/outgoing calls so more juice is drained)? Of course by calls i mean few minutes/day. Not few hours daily.
I think my Nike lasts about 2 days if I'm just texting and the odd calls throughout the days.

can I bar numbers for nuisance callers?

I'm on O2 in the UK, and since Christmas, I have been irritated by calls every couple of weeks from two or three numbers. They will ring a dozen times over the course of an hour and all I get is a slow beep beep beep when I answer. It may sound minor but it is driving me up the wall. There is no means of finding out who is doing it, I have Googled and Googled - all it shows up is these are well known nuisance calls and others suffer the same.
What can I do - is there some means of barring those particular numbers? Can someone recommend some third party software which would do the trick?
I have registered with TPS, but it makes no difference.
Any suggestions?
TIA
rjstep3
Download something called Magicall.
thanks, already downloaded and I'll give it a try.
rjstep3
I also found a free alternative, http://www.pocketpcfreeware.mobi/download-call-firewall-v1-4.html
Maybe you could test this as well (since you have plenty of test opportunities) and let us know how that works
magicall is my first choice. it's able to block calls silently
Call firewall works great on my hd2. Been looking for a while for a call blocker.
Doesnt ring, but lights up the phone, and gives me the missed call notification.
No idea how it will handle blocking sms, but we can wait and see.
For free software, does brilliantly
I've gone and loaded Magicall now, so will try that first.
The nuisance callers only call every two weeks or so, and since I have had this fortnight's quota of nuisance calls today - sigh - I'm going to have to wait a couple of weeks before seeing if it does the business.
thanks for the suggestions anyways
rjstep3
being the trial on magicall 10days, it may not last until next time
OK - Plan B: load Magicall on my Touch HD in time for the next attack of nuisance calls and use the freeware option on the HD2!!
rjstep3
I decided to buy Magicall - it seems to do more than the freeware product plus starts automatically on reboot.
Just had a series of nuisance calls and it worked like a dream.
rjstep3
you could call O2 and ask them very nicely to block the numbers and they will normally oblige without hesitation. If had seen this thread sooner i would have suggested it and maybe saved you some cash but it may help future people searching for the answer.

O2won't do that - they say it is impossible because they do not keep a record of numbers in so cannot block calls.
The whole nuisance call thing is very vexing - there is in practical terms nothing you can do about it. TPS won't investigate individual complaints, Ofcom will just take a record of your complaint and won't investigate individual complaints, the Information Commissioner's Office won't investigate unless you can say who it is who is bugging you, which of course you can't, it is either caller unknown or just a number. Very vexing as I say - I am seriously tempted to take it further.

If they don't keep a record of the numbers then how do they manage to connect any calls in the first place? i think you've been fobbed off there mate but i'm not surprised. We are talking about a network that house all their primary systems, without any redundency, in one building. I think you will remember what happened about 2 months ago now concerning said building, a builder, his shovel and a power cable.
All good points MP3H - but that is what they told me.
Actually Ofcom told me to persist and that the person handling the call wouldn't help and I would have to write in and that sort of thing is handled at a senior level - sort of like protection for VIPS and celebs and that sort of thing. I wanted instant relief, a not painful experience of writing to my mobile operator - and we all know how protracted and painful that can be ...
You could well be right - I can't believe that technology cannot bar a series of numbers, it must be possible.
rjstep3
I got MagiCall for the same reasons and I can honestly say it was worth buying... does calls by Known numbers, Unknown numbers, contacts etc plus does the same for texts... you can decide what is done and I really like the way it can deal with those who with hold their caller ID, it just hangs up on them with slightly annoying beep at their end.... defo worth the investment..

for that, you can add the .lnk to the program in windows\startup, anyway I also checked out the complete feature list of magicall, and it completely outsmarts the freeware program

R2BA020 review

No matter how much SE can piss me off, I have to say they did a good job with the last update R2BA020 .
I did fully charge my battery, did not use any task killer or such only kept adw launcher. With a normal use the battery last me a little over 48 hours I was at 10% when i devided to recharge it again.
-Around 2 hours of video
-4 hours of reading with Aldiko
-1 hours of internet
-Around 50 txt msg
-20 call 5-15 min each
-3 Pictures
-4 Hour of music while reading
-Email and weather widget run to update every hour
-Fancy widget running
-Bluetooth on all the time
-Gps and wifi was off all the time
Bottom line it’s impressive, now I really can enjoy my device without carrying a charger and searching for an outlet all the time .
I completely agree, the 020 firmware is fantastic. My usage differs slightly but even using Bluetooth to listen to Spotify all day didn't drain my battery. Neither did using my phone as a wireless 3G modem with Wifi tethering.
Well, yes, nice improvements but the WIFI is still using a lot of juice
wifi is confirmed using alot.
the phonebook is now kind of stupid...
when you click a person's name, their contact shows up, and when you tap their phone #...instead of calling that person directly it would bring you to the dialer screen with the # entered in and you need to press "call" to call the person...
i mean..if im in someones contact page and i tap their #..im pretty sure i want or need to call them....i really dont understand the point of bringing the dialer screen up again..pretty stupid on SE's part in my opinion
Well a quicker step would be to long hold their name and call them
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Well, I've rooted my device yesterday, started using it massively around 3 or 4 am to reconfigure everything and now its battery is at 8%:
throughout all the process wifi was used for internet (when needed, of course), 3g/gps/bluetooth turned off.
* Installed a lot of apps, some using barcode scanner, some using appbrain.
* Synced with google
* Restored a backup
* Reconfigured a lot of apps
* around 6 sms
* tweeted 2 or 3 times
* 5 to 10 calls 10m~ each
* listened to music through the day (around 2 hours of music, simple last fm scrobbler was used to cache the data, didn't scrobbled yet)
* read a pdf book around 1 hour
* some random usage through the day, like checking online stuff.
* Since I go to work using the subway, the signal reception is quite poor, so the phone prolly was searching for signal during the day.
Even wifi draining a lot of battery, the phone battery was quite good for everything that I've done today.
Apart from the battery the whole system feels better, all the UI customizations done by SE are faster (timescape, mediascape, dialer and so on).
I can say, like all of you, SE did a good job on this update. I can't wait for the Q3 2.1 release. Seriously, I want 720p video recording so much
Greetings guys,
Whats the difference R2BA020 and B2FA020.
Thanks for your kind reply.

I usually use headphones while outdoors, so I can't help here. Indoors it's been quite good, at least for me.

I was on fw 16 and it was a litter bit low but still fine, didn't notice any difference between 16 and 20 tho.
never heard of B2FA020 - Think it might have been a typo on someone's part?
Screen off while in call.
Not to start a new thread, I'll pin my question to this one. I've updated to R2BA020 (O2 Irl branded) and noticed that whenever in call the screen is not turning off, as it used to before. Did anyone else experienced this problem?
Regards, masterofp.
check your screen time out settings in the settings/ display/ screen timeout section.. it may be that it's reverted to a longer timeout period or to not time out at all.

Nope, still @ 15 seconds...
Though overall battery usage seems to be better with R2BA020 (Rogers), I've run into an odd issue:
When tethering via PdaNet, my battery drains at an alarming rate. It dropped 20% in the past hour. This wasn't the case before I upgraded (was using stock Rogers firmware before) - it would drain, but much more slowly, going from 100% to maybe 55% over the course of the 8 hours I was at work tethered. It's almost as if it's not charging at all via USB (or is charging much more slowly than before).
I checked, and the phone does register as charging while tethered. So I'm not sure what exactly the issue is. Nothing else has changed.
-edit-
Turned off PdaNet during a meeting I had today just to make sure my X10 is charging properly via USB, and sure enough it is (gained 12% charge over the hour).
after updating into R2BA020, my sim tool kit and play now were gone. Now, I want them back (especially STK). Does anyone know how to do it? My X10 is not rooted yet.
I'm pretty happy with the new Facebook app. It got rid of the "Camera" icon on the mainscreen and replaced it with "Inbox", which makes so much more sense.
My ringtones got reset, and I noticed that Astro File Manager lost a few file associations. I'm prompted for all sorts of default apps etc now, but it's just a minor annoyance.
I did the update through the Sony Ericsson PC Software. The first boot after update took a very long time on the Rogers splash screen. I was afraid the device was bricked for a couple of minutes. I guess it was just the first boot, and the Xperia was restoring all my user data.
Does anyone have comparison between R2BA020 and R2BA023? appreciate if it includes benchmarking between them.

Not to start a new thread, I'll pin my question to this one. I've updated to R2BA020 (O2 Irl branded) and noticed that whenever in call the screen is not turning off, as it used to before. Did anyone else experienced this problem?
Regards, masterofp.

Vibrant is now officially supported by Cyanogen Mod! Stable Release Available

The Android Police reported today that the Vibrant has been officially added to the list of supported devices for Cyanogen Mod!
When I checked the Cyanogen site, sure enough I saw a stable build for Vibrant.
This is great news! If you download and try it, report back with how it works for you.

Chances are, despite it being listed as stable, all the present Vibrant-specific bugs are still there. Battery usage, GPS, 911, etc...
Why can't it dial 911? I'm confused
The way I understand it, an emergency call is handled by the radio differently from a normal call. The way Samsung handles emergency calls on the Vibrant is different that on other devices, hence it has been problematic to get it working. There is a much more detailed description of what's actually going on referenced somewhere on the Vibrant MTD thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16827792&highlight=911+ril#post16827792) if you are interested in more details.
if it says stable now is it safe for daily use already?
(never touch 2.3 before)

Cyanogen 7.1 Battery Drain Issue
Is anybody else having battery drain issues with Cyanogen 7.1? Sitting idle, my phone drops 10% per hour. That's just crazy. I've wiped the battery stats, still nothing. Also, it won't charge more than 95%. Sometimes it'll sneak up to 98%, but NEVER 100%.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
I have the same issue, android system is whats killing it, using somewhere in the 40% range of my battery, when it should be using maybe 10%. Not sure why but im seeing if it is app related.

Does it have built-in WiFi tethering like the stock 2.2 Touchwiz?
I think I found the culprit (at least for me)...it was Handcent. It doesn't show up as taking a lot of CPU, however it seems to be conflicting with the native SMS and keeping the device constantly partially awake.
I followed instructions found here, as ridiculous as it sounds (sorry, I can't post links, so I parsed it out...just combine strings): sprintusers . com / forum / showthread.php?t=197275
So far it's been 2 hours and the phone's only dropped 1% (and I have been nearly constantly checking it).
Now if only MMS worked...
It's very stable - no crashes or reboot yet. But the 911 thing is still broken and there is a power drain bug, but only if you have certain apps installed - I notice GPStest/GPS toolbox and possibly Home Smack seem to cause Android system to not let the phone sleep.
GPS does work for me, but only outside, max acuracy is 30 ft but it's usually more likely 90 ft. I also had to bend the antennae back before this worked.
find your local non-emergency number and save it in contacts as 911. They can always transfer to emergency if needed.

I am using the Build Number "FROYO.UVKA6". I am using a Vibrant T-959 and would really like to know if I am able to use 911 in an emergency or not? I really don't want to just try it when not needed.

if you're using CyanogenMod - no, you can't call 911.
Otherwise, yes you can call 911.
So I was the only person with signal issues, going from 3g with one bar then to edge and finally a few minutes later no signal. This happened all through the day, I live in a hspa+ area. Ya but other then that it's a really stable rom more of a show piece to me though but hay that's just me as I like to receive/send calls and text in a timely fashion in a few more months ill flash it again see how it works then.

112 is, apparently, recognized by all GSM phones as an emergency number.
I dialed 112, while on CM, and it indeed called a 911 operator.
so just remember 112... its Europe's 911 equivalent. And fortunately for us, our GSM Vibrant's can use the 112 number as well.
112 does not work for me.

you guys did really try dialing 911 to test it?
isn't an abuse of it?

That depends I think. If you aren't sure that your phone works, wouldn't that be testing to make sure that when a real emergency happened you wouldn't be out of luck? I don't think the 911 operators want you abusing the system, nor do they want you to be unsure of your phone working to phone in an emergency.
I can see either way, but if you only did it once they aren't going to shoot you or anything.

Actually it seems Handcent was a bystander...according to the Cyanogen forums, the GPS is the culprit. If anybody has battery drain issues, check out that forum. I haven't seen any develop solutions, however the temp fix has been to toggle off gps and reboot. If something ends up enabling your gps however, it will probably continue to be an issue.
