Amhul/Pandora ROM? - G1 General

Ive been looking for the rom that benchmarks 15 MFLOPS on the Linpack... Anyone know what Im talking about or where to get it?

That is just the basic OTA 1.6 rom released by T-mo..

Theres no way a stock rom is that fast... A stock nexus/desire isnt near that...

Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App

well you look at the fingerprint attacked to it and tell me what it says. Everyrom has one and that aligns with an OTA. it may have been run through and Emulator but fingerprints don't lie thats why they're there.

anyone can change a build.prop or change whatever they want inside a rom... if you read all the G1/dream runs one says -eclair but DRC83 1.6-(DRC83 is donut) and another says -825.6MHz passion 2.1 rom-(I didnt know we could clock that high)
Im just wondering if there are some super roms in someones closet we might get to see one day or if some lil chinese guy (sorry for the stereotype) is doing great things we dont know about

BUMP?
should I ask this in dev section so ppl actually read it?

Best 2.2 ROM

I am looking to flash a 2.2 rom but don't know which one is the best, can someone tell me which is the best and why they think it is. Also in order to flash do I just have to wipe and flash or is there something more that I need to do to go from DI18 to DK17?

Bar none, go with Quantun1.5, stable, quick, clean, and good battery.

I'm gonna go with epic experience 2.0. Its way smooth and stable.

lol i'll take a crack at that even though i'm new here and am still learning my way around.
There are several froyo roms out there right now for the epic; you can read about them in the developer's forum. Then, you should do a little bit of research - such as reading the beginning of posts about rom releases, and then maybe the last few pages, looking for other people's comments about fc's and the like. That will allow you to pick a rom that isn't too beta (that is, will be fairly stable). Or you could pick an unstable rom if that's what you want to play with - it's an open source Android device, baby! Warranty voided of course. Always do a nandroid backup first of course.
Everyone:"Of course!"
What's 'best' for me may not be what's 'best' for you. However, without saying that it's better than any other stable and smooth froyo ROM, I'm currently using VIPERrom DK17 2.6 (haven't tried anything higher yet) with some of my visual/audio mods (changed boot screen and sound, changed shutdown sound, using a battery mod). As I said, I find this rom to be stable and quick but I'm not touting one functional ROM over another - it works well for me right now as a stable, quick froyo rom. Also it didn't have a bunch of stuff I didn't want like sprint bloatware, so that was nice.
To use this rom, as the developer himself states on the first post of his thread, "YOU NEED TO DOWNLOAD THE DK17 MODEM AND PIT TO USE THIS ROM!!" For the extremely literal out there, you must ALSO flash your epic with those files after you download them.
The developer, BThomas22x, has kindly included links to the files you'd need on his posting, which you should check out along with the postings from other developers.
I don't really have the experience here to say it without feeling a tad jerkish, but the xda forum is a developer's forum so you should probably be willing to do a little research on your own.
I know this because I'm still posting questions in the wrong places and the like
So a little looking around in the Android Development forum would show you this wiki. That's also a good place to start.
I have been doing my homework and I have seen the wiki, that is why I am now using the Syndicate ROM 1.0.2 DI18 with eXtreme kernel 1.2 and the emotionless beast theme. I just wanted to know peoples opinions as to why they like one froyo ROM over another so that when I choose to flash one I have a basis to judge my decision. Thanks, all your input is very helpful. Anyone else like a particular froyo ROM for one reason or anotherM

Quantum 1.5 fo sho
Each rom has their own features to each their own.
Ran viper for a few days, but switched to EE for now.
I'm new to the android fam as of today. But the stock version seems to do what i need it to do. I just download skyfire free out of the market place and i can watch everything the froyo 2.2 flash player 10.1 can do. Or maybe im missing something? I need yal to get me up to speed whats the difference besides speed. And please don't chew me out for asking either.

Rooting DHD

I am a new to android. Was a long time Iphone user and I wanted to know how to root DHD and what are the major benefits of rooting the DHD

I want now to.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
rooting is very easy, i rooted mine a couple of days ago and flashed a custom ROM today
http://theunlockr.com/2010/11/15/universal-android-rooting-method-visionary-method/
There are plenty of guides in the development section. I only rooted mine last week, after having been completely new to the android system.
To give you any advice, it would be to read around what you have to do before you actually do it. For a first time user, it could sound complicated, but it really isnt.
Also, I would go for LeeDroids custom Rom and kernel, they run immaculately.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
The benefits of rooting your phone is a much faster phone and improved battery life, and much more other stuffs
the main benefit is the possibility to run apps that need special privileges... you should do when you want to run those apps. rooting by rooting is pointless...
I rooted my phone a month ago cause i wanted to change the pixel density and now i flash a new rom every day... it's a addiction.. =o)
Can you pls explain what you mean by changing pixel density

Rather than start a new thread I hope you don't mind me asking in here!
I want to root my DHD, however I need to downgrade my phone to 2.2 from 2.2.1. Is it possible to do it on a Mac?
Any help would be great!
@eiKr, there is a whole thread about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
i really don't know, since i don't use a mac...
@niks_5in, type "LCD density" on the market and you will know what i meant! =oP need to say, i don't see any bad side effect in rooting, but since you came from iphone, you should read a lot on dev section before make any kind of change in your device...
I was on the same boat as you...
Today I decided to root it and what a difference!
Should be possible on a mac since there are osx versions of adb and fastboot available. Think there is already a pre extracted pd98img.zip available for download from the downgrade guide thread.
You don't need to run any windows exe for the downgrade.
-----
Someone Swyped my idea.
Most benefits has already been brought up, but one big benefit is to have full control over your device.
And I will soon flash the phone for the first time, just waiting for wid0w to set up a rom flashing tutorial (hopefully today).

Is that like using a higher resolution display on the phone? Can you show us a comparison?
+1 to LeeDroid 2.0.0 although you're best to look through the many available to see which one might suit you best. They're all pretty stable.
PLEASE remember that this is your choice though, nothing to do with the developer of the ROM if it goes wrong. There's plenty of information about how to do it so you should be fine! I successfully got root, s-off, recovery, and have flashed loads of different ROM's with no problems.
Be warned though that as someone else above said, it gets ridiculously addictive, you'll be checking for updates all the time!
Benefits of it for me is that I have control over my device. I got mine in the UK through Orange and there was a load of "bloatware" on there which I would never use but couldn't uninstall. Rooting and a new ROM solved this plus when a stable gingerbread ROM comes out, I'll be at the front of the line for it rather than wait for my service carrier to provide the update!

Yeah you can change the DPI in the boot.prop. Ill get some screenshots of my Streak up when I get home.
Yeah, I rooted mine because of those preinstaled applications such as stocks, filckr or news which i never used and they still kept running in the background. You can also make your DHD even faster by OC (+30% of CPU performance - safely), make the speaker louder so you can finaly hear it. Most (if not all) of the ROMs available are also faster and smoother than the stock and they should improve your battery life. However it is not my case, cause since i flashed the new ROM (Core Droid - nice eyecandy and super smooth) i'm still playing with the phone and sometimes i have to recharge twice a day
Its thruth that you can brick your phone for good, but if you carefuly follow instructions on this forum and think twice, its 100% safe (or 99.9999% at least).
Just one advice that might prove useful and i haven't seen it here on the forum. After flashing a new ROM, do not erase the instalation .zip filefrom the SD. Can be useful if something goes wrong, especialy if you dont have a card reader
just search for "visionary"
its a one click root tool
Yea I used Visionary and it's was very easy

Can I get Honeycomb lock screen?

Ive found a posting to get the honeycomb unlock screen on cm7 based builds, and I am currently running pongsters cm7 build. But it says it over writes framework, so is this going to screw up my phone? Its not in the hd2 forum, and people are talking abour native android devices. And I dont want to screw up my phone. Any thoughts?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
Shouldn't, but I would backup before you try it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959602
Thats is the post. I dont know enough to know changing something called framework would screw up my phone
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
probably won't, but it never hurts to do a backup before trying it. Got a link? I can try it on mine and report my results.
Edit: I'm running Typhoon CM7, which is a port from Bravo (desire I believe), whereas GBX is built from source for HD2, so some things may be different (although I doubt it).
Edit 2: just tried it, it didn't blow up my ROM. It kind of works I guess? I'm not sure what the original lockscreen looked like because I always used a lock pattern, but see screenshots. BTW there is a zip for HD2 LEO nightlies, so I'm going to try that next and post results.
Yeah it worked for me too, its not gbx, its the,cm7 pongster has released as well. Its not exactly like honeycomb, it just takes the rotary and changes it to look like honeycomb, I wanted the lock icon with circle, the drag in any direction.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
yeah that's what I thought the HC lockscreen was, so I wasn't sure what was going on with the lockscreen I was getting. Either way, isntalling via CWM sent me into a boot loop.
I downloaded metamorph and went that way, worked for me, but not exactly what I was hoping it was going to be, maybe, the discusion will get rolling, though. I hate slide, rotary is ok, I did the lock pattern but my gf complains she cant go through my phone to see if im messin around with other girls lol.
Not sure what it woulf take to do it. It looks like he had to use rotary, then just changed the png files so the "images" looked similar, but how it works probably takes a little tp build..

Bionix-v 1.3.4

Sombionix's sig says he's running Bionix-v 1.3.4. whats all that about?
I think he has a sgs2 now.
Edit;
I just checked, maybe he's working on it... No clue
He said he's moving on from the vibrant and not releasing bionix 1.3.4 cuz of the trouble of explaining it.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
He doesnt need to release shiot to us but come on dont give off bs excuses....say it like a man....he is tired of all the dumbasses here that cant figure out shiot on Thier own and want everything thier way not his which is how he likes it and therefore the reason he builds it.
I would not cater to everyone either...if i build something and give it away for free ,i dont want a bunch of noobs asking me to change things all becuz they are to damn lazy to figure out how to make changes and so on themselves....i mean really.....look at every rom posted on here.....no ones happy they want and want....i do not blame him one bit.
Like Som i wouldnt post anything here either, thats the reason he quit posting his roms and tweeks long ago.
P.S. im not saying everyone does it but the majority of laziness out weights the few that arent
If you guys actually read his Facebook, you'd know those aren't the reasons. He doesn't want to release it because even though it's running fine on his phone, there could possibly still be bugs and whatnot that he's missed, and he's not willing to support it anymore, so he doesn't want 3739474 people posting blahblah this doesn't work, can you fix this?, etc.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Lol he hasnt posted anything since he left xda do you really think he has any intention of coming to this place and releasing it to xda?.......
I for one love his roms.....i was flashing his/TeamWhiskey roms since September last yr ...Nero to be specific and i am curantly on bionix 1.3.1
I would love to play with 1.3.4 or anything he tosses our way.....i just dont think is gonna happen

Att S3 - load new rom how/where to start??

So i have the att version of this phone, and I found the Diet ICS rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732195
and found the Root with no flash counter: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
But don't know wehre to start?? Which roms are the best?? Diet? What other roms are available that are "good"? I've checked the roms that I've found, however I dont really understand the differences between all these roms. Nor do I understnad what steps I need to take and what exactly I need to do? I've read the "everything att s3..." thread, but it doesn't make sense to me on what I need to do to load a new rom.
Do I need to follow the root without flash counter thread?? Do I just follow a new rom thread?
What kernel/rom would be best to load for better battery life?
thanks!
Have you read the step by step guide for rooting? If not then start there.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I did check it...but in the guide I don't see where it says to load your custom rom at. I'm reading the rom guide that doesnt add the flash counter.
Also, which rom/kernel is better for more battery life? Or should I wait for CM9?
you don't need to be doing anything to your phone at this point. READ, READ, READ, before you eff up your phone!

Absolutely true. The place to start is always with reading, not with posting more random clutter to the forums. All of the information is out there, and forums come equipped with a search.
+1 Go slow, read once you have root you can do a lot of things without the need to flash a custom rom right away. You gain ability to block ads with Adfree from the market. Also you can use titanium backup to backup your phone. Remember back Up! back up! back up! IT will save your butt.
Ballgum
All the above is Gospel! You need to read and then read some more. Rooting gives you freedom and the ability to choice a rom if u want. Roms are a choice u make. Everyone has different likes and dislikes so no one can say use this rom over that rom. YOUR choice. As far a things like battery life again each rom can give each person a different experience based on usage apps etc. Everyone above has given u good advice read read read. I have seen to many peeps who rush into things and find they have an expensive paper weight. After u have read more try rooting and then a rom or two.

well, i'm not a complete newb. I had a Note that I completely tore down and reloaded numerous times with different roms, odin, etc etc...
I guess my question shouldve been is there any specific rom or kernel that is battery optimized? And also any idea when CM9 comes out? I could just optimize battery and wait for CM9 if its coming out soon.
I'm not going to just go hurry and load a rom. But once I know WHICH rom/kernel I need to load then I can go from there on how best to do that
Idk, when i read about each individual rom its not clear to me what the differences are between the different roms if that makes sense? Like they all kinda say the same thing "de-bloated, optimized, etc etc". I just want a bug free, clean rom that works well for battery really and i dont see that criteria listed on the rom descriptions
I realize theres an amount I need to learn to to get this thing loaded, my question more is whats a "popular" "less buggy" rom that works well with battery life and is CM9 supposed to be the bees knees or what?? haha
actually looks like not many roms available yet. i may wait until there's more to choose from and for now just battery optimize and remove att crap
There are no good roms for this phone so I would root and wait hopefully they start coming out soon but it maybe a few months or longer or never since the international version is getting all the developer love only. I want MIUI or CM9/10 then we can talk.

ok thanks man, thats exactly what i was looking for. i guess i'll wait until something good comes out.
but i did find the "cpu sleeper" script to conserve battery, so I may root for that. depending on how much it saves?
