Im officially selling the ol hero. idk when im sending it off but it will be soon. I gots to get the money for the evo I just wanted to make this thread to see myself whose leaving and just to say how much fun this has been.
so thanks to all the people, devs, and friends i made on the hero thread.
and this is also going to be another "whos going thread"
my useless post of the month
btw i also want this thread to be a "post your awkward comments thread" as you can see, damage and i worked together on his first rom and i think he really fell in love with me good times. so if you wanna go back and do some research on your own posts, find the weird comments you or someone else left and tell us the story!

I think I am going to pre-order one tomorrow.

but.....
Well, since you're leaving, send me money to buy an EVO!

I will be joining you if I can get my hands on one from Sprint June 4

even if I had a bunch of money I think the extra $10 a month would still piss me off.
I understand forcing people to get an unlimited data plan. These phones really need it and Sprint is extremely reasonably with their data plans unlike other services. However, I just see the extra $10 a month as a rip off and an excuse to try and get a quicker ROI.

lol people still pissed about the extra 10 a month ... DONT GET THE DAMN PHONE them and stop *****ing about it
im going evo 10 extra a month is nothing ill stop getting the extra coffee in the morning if i have too

I can't get the evo due to the fact that I have no money left over when I pay all my bills (cable, sprint, gas, electric) and buy food, so... yeah. Hope you guys like your evos

not getting the evo for the fact that i know already that phone wont last with me, the screen is way to big for my pocket, and it doesnt seem like it has durability, if its anything like that huge hd2 it wont last 3 months in my house, plus i keep my phone in my pocket, trying out my sisters hd2 was so awkward when i sit down i would be scared it would break because its that big. im going to wait for something iphone sized that has snap dragon with android. you guys have fun with that big ass screen.

That right there is my exact problem. I just picked up my Hero trade from CL a month ago to gauge how much I would like Android. Well I love it, but jumping up my rate 10$ for a 4G that isnt even in my area? Yeah... not happening.

belt clips and holsters are for well.....lol just say there not for me, i dont seem like a belt clip holster kinda guy, they just dont look right, and as big as that phone is how dumb would it look to have this big square just sitting on my hip, thats asking for it to be stolen or its just gonna look dumb dude. its to big to go on a belt

I don't "think" I'll be going to a different phone, until at least October. Not to sound crass, but money is not an issue (I'm probably older than most on this board), but I just can't bring myself to drop $450+ on a phone.
I've only been with Sprint for as long as the Hero has been released (moved to Sprint on day 1), so I don't really have any upgrade options until my year has past.

I too plan on making the switch, and am going to pay outright $450 for it. Also, for everyone being unsure of the $10, if you think about it...your still paying less than you would if you were at Verizon, AT&T, or T-mobile. Sprint has the best phone plans in the market and quite frankly I care more about my plan than my phone, but with the Evo arriving, its a little hard to pass this up.
Secondly, if the $10 bothers you, see if you can get a student or company discount, that would counteract the mandatory $10 you would have to pay.
I have a 27% discount, so I can't really complain.

I think I will buy the evo on ebay once all the crazyness goes away. I also want to see the issues first I'm sure there will be some. I figure if the retail on the phone is 450, then within a couple months the phone will be $375 around that time. Even the high prices are coming down on the Google I/O phones on ebay. We all know the issues with the hero when it came out, so why rush.

Well since my wife and i have plenty of money now i guess i could buy an EVO too but ill wait until root is confirmed to stick around and i want to see what initial problems come up with the phone at launch. Shame to see another dev leaving the hero.

I honestly didn't know soo many devs were leaving the hero, maybe i should just go buy one at launch and sell my hero for what i can get.

If I actually tried to go back and find all of the awkward things that had inadvertently been said in threads I participated in over the last six months, we'd have this puppy up to 100 pages in NO TIME
But, I'm not that bored right now...plus I've drank and smoked a lot since then, so I don't actively remember where said posts are...just have vague recollections of shaking my head and thinking "Oh, you poor dumb [email protected]@rd, you stepped right in it, and then put your foot in your mouth anyway..." Besides, most of the REALLY good ones have been deleted.

Screw Google and Screw the Nexus One

Having read the the "leaked" info the last few weeks, I wasn't completely surprised when I spoke with a TMo rep and confirmed that in order to use this phone, I'd essentially have to double my current rate plan due to the fact that I am on a Family Plan. I am, however, finding myself to be surprisingly angered by this fact.
That Google is stipulating which rate plan a customer can use on a particular device is absurd at best and insulting at worst. Am I not intelligent enough to know which rate plan suits my needs? Thank you, Google, for showing me the light. I'm glad to know that it's better for me to spend $80/month on myself PLUS the extra $80/month on my wife instead of the $100/month we spend for both right now.
Screw you, Google. And screw your phone.
nspbass
Whats the problem?
Buy it "unlocked".
if you buy the phone from tmob then you need to get a "plan" just for this phone, and the purchase price of the nexus is 180.00? or so
but if you buy it from google direct, unlocked, you just pop in your sim and your good to go...no rate plan increase or changes...however...you will pay the 530.00 asking price for the phone....
so you do have "some" optiions...
quit being a broke ass and buy the unsubsodized version and you can use your current plan. these days nice things cost money and you gotta pay to play.
wow... there are other options man. icon57 stated already...
Uhh, I am pretty sure T-Mobile decides what rates are required for the phone in order for them to fork over all that money to pay for it for you
Get the unlocked one if you aren't happy with that
These people don't do their research first do they?
Maybe I should have stated that I've been a huge fan of Google for years and of the Android OS from the first day I heard of it. I've had my G1 for quite a while now and have enjoyed it very much. When I heard of the Nexus One, I was happy to hear that I could experience Android on a much faster, much more capable phone.
Maybe I also should have stated that I'm in the military and don't make a lot of money. I've also got a wife and child I'm supporting on only my income. So, I'm not being just some broke-ass. I'm being a broke-ass soldier serving my country protecting your moron asses on a daily basis and trying to take care of my family. That's the problem with changing my rate plan or shelling out $530.
So how about this: instead of jumping on me for being displeased with this product, you shove your heads up your respective asses.

"I'm a stupid teenage girl who wants pity." is all I heard.
If you don't want a specified rate plan, buy it un-subsidized. If you have read any of the threads in this forum, you would know it is cheaper in the long run anyway for that exact reason.
You know if you wanted an iPhone used to (Not sure anymore, I don't keep up with that stuff) have to have a certain rate plan as well.
Is it a right to own a high-end phone? No, it's a privilege.. reserved for those willing to pay. If it's out of your price range, then too bad.
Being in the military does not make you holier than any of us. I am a strong supporter of the armed forces. The trouble is you have to wait till the press conference is over. Don't assume anything. By assuming you are making an ASS of U and ME and less of me I guess.
Also, all americans should expect to pay 500+ for a good decent phone. You have been in the past. You just don't realize it.

Well put. I still can't believe how many people can't figure out that the subsidy is ALWAYS recovered in the form of higher plan costs. T-mobile is the only one showing this though, as they're the only carrier with a subsidized and unsubsidized pricing structure.
@nspbass
I also use a tmo plan that costs less than the one required for the Nexus One and am planning to get on a family plan with my new wifey soon. If you quickly do the math, its cheaper in the long run to buy the phone unlocked and chose your own tmo plan. Especially if you take advantage of Google Voice and Skype.
One other thing is that the Nexus One's frequency works across most continents unlike any other US carrier. I would think someone in the military would see that as an advantage.
@nspbass
Yup. But get that through the moronic heads of those fanboys on here.
In their eyes HTC, Google and TMUS can't do anything wrong!

What did they do wrong? Act like a business that is interested in income?
Just the fact that Google/HTC is selling this for only 530 dollars is amazing in itself. Compare other phones with similar hardware (HD2) and you will see a huge price difference. Stop crying.
Will someone shut the 11-B up? Terribly sorry you're an E-2, but the military does not owe you a living and Google does not owe you a phone. Now shut that whining hole and get back to doing something marginally useful, like KP.
Duckies
(Decidedly NOT an E-2.)
to the OP:
look, it's true that the phone carrier plans cost too much and phones are expensive. the fact is, the phone companies have us by the balls and Google couldn't do anything about that by releasing one phone even if thy wanted to.
your complaints about the nexus would apply to any new phone you wanted to get. the only reason you expected more is because people on the internet hyped it so much without knowing what they were talking about, and apparently you believed them

WOW! - Junior member...stop crying and be sensible.
I called T-Mobile (yes...being proactive).
You can not "Downgrade or cancel" your plan (i.e. you can't remove internet, or go below 500 mins a month)
But the rep stated you are allowed to take two individual plans and merge them to a family plan. AS LONG AS YOU KEEP THE DATA AND MESSAGING plans and the MINUTES FOR EACH PLAN are higher than your current plan.
So to put it simply - YES YOU CAN GET A FAMILY PLAN, but after you have both phones activated.
Ind plans are $39.99 + Data + Messaging
Family Unlimited is $99.99 + Data + Messaging
If you are paying more, and getting more minutes - is that an Upgrade or Downgrade?

Htc hd2 -- $48.88

amazon
Amazon price: $49.99 (with new service plan)
I would have done this, except I couldn't add a line through amazon.
I wonder if the outright purchase price has dropped any? At this pricing it would have been worthwhile for me to renew my contract and get roped into the $30 a month data plan.
I outright purchased my HD2 since over the course of the 2 years that my contract would have been extended, the extra $10 a month for the data would have eaten up the savings of getting the HD2 subsidized.
Just the cost of being an early adopter
What the hell.

It's quite sad really. Majority of the people who get the HD2 in the USA are not people who know what Windows Mobile is, and for the most part, get frustrated when they treat it as a phone, instead of a personal computer (SENSE's imperfections is partly to blame for this, which is why I never recommend SENSE to people). I can honestly vouch that the majority of people who got this phone got it because the screen is bigger than the iPhone (and that it is supposed to be T-Mobile's iPhone). That's about it.
Because of this, I"m pretty sure TMobile is experiencing so many returns/complaints from people who have little to know knowledge about Windows Mobile. Therefore, I'm getting the feeling that T-Mobile is starting to think that it's not worth it and is deciding to just push the stock out ASAP (lock whoever they can for the next 2 years), or what's left of it, keep a couple of thousand in stock for return/repair/warranty issues, and call it quits soon (which might lend proof to the upcoming rumor that T-Mobile is ending HD2 soon in July).
It's really sad, because the T-Mobile's HD2 is one of the most solid phones I have ever held in my hand which no cracks, crease, or squeaks. It is a hardware marvel in so many respects it puts a lot of other phones to shame.
Windows Mobile is an OS that is for a very niche market, because it requires a certain finesse and tolerance that a majority of users simply do not have (I give credit to Apple for making a device that works well for the features that it has). Windows Mobile phones are part phone, part personal computer, and part software-gadgetry-hobby for the tech enthusiast.

as above said, its probably because it is becoming a headache for them. I bet they've had hundreds of returns because people have come here, flashed the wrong thing and bricked it, plus thousands more who simply dont get the phone, and have no clue how to start to understand it.
As a line of phones its probably somewhere between a great moneymaker and a support nightmare for tmo.
Sheesh, cut the price I paid in HALF! The nerve....
($99 from Wirefly at release)
As for why, well, I noticed a lot of HD2 commercials from HTC leading up to the release of Evo, then haven't seen any HD2 ones at all after that. Understandable for HTC, but bad for TMO, and it's affiliates. Perhaps lower prices are trying to pull the interest back to the "older" phone.
I got mine at launch at wal-mart - it was $149, so this is a $100 price drop
Shame those of us who paid 350+ can't get some of that cash back lol.
Not to mention that the resale values on eBay will DIVE when we want to sell ours in a year and possibly upgrade. Prices people are paying for used Nexus One's and Apple 3G's is insane! Fortunately paid about 75 in May through Letstalk.com with a coupon so I can definately get that back in a year. At the time Tmobile was charging 199 with a new service agreement. Their return rate must have been like a tidal wave. Amazing that a month ago people couldn't even get this phone as it was constantly on backorder! Guess a software/radio upgrade from Tmobile is now going to be out of the question?!!!
Agree that is a great phone with some minor software flaws but the hardware has been flawless. Look over at the EVO forum and many are have issues with screen delams, bleeding of backlight, badly grounded screens that repond even when touching the kickstand. My HD2 has been perfect - no flexing, dead pixels or button problems.
hd2
i didnt even pay for mine yet. tmobile billed me 130 and i have to pay two payments of 25 bucks so 200 total but they credited me 50 so it was only 150 now i havent had a fone in about month cuz i thought id be paying 25 extra for 6 months and now the fone is cheaper then i got it for with an extra 50, i think im going to call them and try to get my price adjusted !! its going for a third of what i am supposed to pay i might threaten to leave tmobile again or something
just be happy you all got it so much cheaper than the rest of the world to start with. An extra 100 dollars is chicken feed.
Lawl. I would love that the HD2 gets discontinued. It'll make us remaining T-Mobile HD2 owners stand like the few and the proud.

Were not the only ones with a "4G" fee

Here you guys go... You really think companies are not going to charge more for devices that consume more? Wake up. Cars with more HP cost more, BBQ grills with more burners cost more. Houses with more rooms cost more. Keep in mind these are all things you will never fully use 100% of your time.

What does this have to do with new customers? They're still going to charge more on their tiered plan when their LTE phones get released. The point is to show every carrier will soon be charging more, either for phones or plans. Pretty simple. Plus promotions expire, we're talking about standard pricing

Yep its called inflation get used to it. I remember when a candy bar was .50 cents and gas was $1.25/gallon. I also remember when .50 cents was currency and not a rapper. Whats you point? Let me ask you this how old are you? Has anything gotten cheaper except the quality of merchandise? Things go up they don't go down. Are you expecting your cellular bill to become less some how?
And what does all this have to do with being sick of the $10 fee threads?
What does it all mean, and is there a god?

What more are people in my case consuming? I don't have 4G. I live in a town that won't see 4G, probably for quite a while.
I have been saying since 4G came out, it should be a want it or not feature.
If its available, and you want it, activate it. $10/month please
If you couldn't care less, or its NOT even available if you want it, temporary disable our authentication and don't charge us.
Simple as that.
The fee for 4G makes 4G special. How would you feel if it were free? Not special, you'd be looking at what it is to be "First" with 4G. Sort of makes you feel that at 5¢ a kwh you're going to get 4800 kwh worth of use... lmao
So every one of these "fee" threads just says "Gee golly sprint we are gullible".
I'm not complaining about the fee at all, this is to show all those that are complaining that prices will always go up and continue to go up regardless of the company. Newer technology = more money and everyone consented to the charge when you bought the phone and kept it past 30 days so what's the use in complaining?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Agree. I got my evo the first day it came out i paid $540.00 retail price. I knew about the $10 fee two weeks later i got another one for my brother. I have 5 evos on a family plan i agreed to the $10 fee for each phone and you did the same so people stop crying no body forced you to buy the phone and is not the only android phone sprint has. You have choices and you even have 30 days to return it.

If you couldn't care less, or its NOT even available if you want it, temporary disable our authentication and don't charge us.
Simple as that.

I like this idea. I didn't buy an EVO because it was 4G, I bought it because of all the other hardware candy. I don't need more than 3G on my cell phone, so an option would be nice, but I'll still pay the $10 because I love my phone regardless.
complaints about complainers

Here you guys go... You really think companies are not going to charge more for devices that consume more? Wake up. Cars with more HP cost more, BBQ grills with more burners cost more. Houses with more rooms cost more. Keep in mind these are all things you will never fully use 100% of your time.
Omg! Verizon charging more for 4G? How dare those bastards!

I am tired of paying more for everything, but that is life. I don't like the $10.00 fee, but I am not here to complain about it.
I just want to point out that your argument is flawed, because when I buy a faster car, a bigger grill, blowup doll etc... I do not have to pay an extra monthly fee to own those items.
I think a new forum to complain about the people who are complaining is worse than the original complainers.

You missed the point. A faster car eats more gas, a bigger grill eats more gas and a bigger house in most instances cost more monthly. Youre spending more one way or another, whether monthly, yearly, up front, every time you need a refill, etc.

Would rather have a 10$ fee instead of a 2GB cap.
Just sayin'.
Tired of the complaint threads period. Nobody likes the $10 fee, the people who complain about it, or the people who complain about the people complaining about it. This is VERY old news. It's there and there's nothing we can do about it. Move on.

I bought the EVO knowing there is a $10 monthly premium, so complaining about it after I bought the phone would just make me a douche bag. If you dont want to pay 10 extra a month, dont get a 4g phone, simple as that. Any argument on this is irrelevant and a waste of time.

I didn't miss the point. The house itself costs the same regardless of how much you use it. The phone costs the same no matter how much you use it. The gas service in the house is unrelated to the house price, as is the same with the phone service and the phone.
What I did have issue with is on a previous device, I was told that my "unlimited data plan (with no cap)" did not have enough data, but the newer "unlimited data plan (with a 5 GB cap)" did....
At least they are being honest and letting us know they just want to pay more, and they tell you BEFORE you buy the device. The previous device was a warranty replacement with a newer device. (I did not want the newer device, I just wanted a working mogul, after 4 failed in store refurbs.)
there is no 5gb cap, please don't spread false myth

So ur saying ur electric bill is the same regardless the size of the house? Phone bill is the same regardless the amount of international calls? Prices always go up due to one reason or another. Btw there is no 5gig cap.

Atrix for $199 or wait for a different phone?

Hi, I am new around here. Been lurking around for a little while.
I recently lost my iPhone 3Gs so I have been looking around to replace it with an Android phone bc I am kinda bored of iOS.
I dont have an upgrade til at the end of the year so I decided to call the customer relations and see if they can work out something for me. I remember reading in a "how much did you get your atrix for?" thread where the guy said he was leaving unless they gave him a killer deal and got his for $130 +$180 in credit and no renewal of contract which is hard for me to believe. I tried and the best they gave me was $199 with extension.
I am having a hard time deciding whether to move to verizon or t-mobile but they dont have any phones that i am interested in at the moment although it seems like there will be some interesting phones on the way soon.
but I need a smartphone again ASAP bc the 'dumbphone' is makin me feel dumb.
Would it be worth it to try to hustle them a bit more for a better deal or just move on to a different network? I thought they'd give me a better deal since i been with them for a decade now but i do think $199 for the atrix is still pretty reasonable. It is just that I can always use a better deal.
Sorry if this thread is pointless but any input will be appreciated. Thanks.
$199 for an Atrix off-contract is a killer price considering that you can still take your business elsewhere and get at least $400 on ebay for the Atrix if you decide to move.
that's a great deal! go for it, you'll love the atrix
awesome deal
worst case u can still sell it on craigslist for 450+ and u are not in a contract
Honestly... I'd hold off for another month or so and wait for the SGS2. The atrix is a good phone. I jumped on this bandwagon a little early and regret it; I'm waiting for the SGS2 international (I-9100) and jumping ship as soon as it's out.
Don't get me wrong though - if you're not a tinkerer then this is a great phone. And coming from an iphone I assume you don't care about the phone being locked up seeing as how that's Apples M.O. It could be a good phone for you but personally, I want to customize it more than I'm currently able to.

Isn't the SGS2 International like $950 off contract lol.
Yep that's a great deal!!!
It is great phone and hopefully in couple months or sooner the boot loader will get crack which im hopping for it because that will unlock tons more enjoyment from it and with the docks imagine what you can do with those. And even Motorola might even release something or unlock the boot loader when they see sales going down because everyone wants too unlock the full potential of this device!!
I got the atrix laptop dock also which is pretty nice but it just needs a bit more speed.
I tried and the best they gave me was $199 with extension.

So I read this as, $199 for a 2 year contract (EXTENSION)..
That's the same as everyone else.. How is that a good deal?
you can get atrix for 119 in costco.

i was about to say the same thing
i was about to say the same thing. bought it few days ago for $120. The good thing is if I dont like the phone I can return it within 90 days without any charges and if something good comes by then (lets say Iphone 5,6 or whtever)..all I have to pay is the difference which is $80...
the price is with contract extension so basically the same price anyone can get. I just said that they would give me the contract/upgrade price now instead of waiting until the end of the year when I will be "eligible" for an upgrade. My bad for the misunderstanding. I'm not sure if I will be able to get the costco price since I can't get it for $199 even from the corporate store. As far as i know, AT&T will only allow me to get it at a discounted price through the customer relations department.
I guess I'll try if I can have the customer relations put a note on my account so that any at&t carrier can see my eligibility.
Hell, you should just buy it outright for the price; if you don't like it you can just sell it for 400+.
The phone is great though, I only took mine back because of the locked bootloader, the galaxy s 2 is coming out, and I just got bored with it.
Amazon's web store has it for $149. You'll lose your unlimited data plan if you have one, but I read that if you badger them enough they'll give it back to you.
That's what I'm going to try anyway!
do you mean if you get it from amazon?
Yes, they force you to change your data plan. Last night I found out you can also get that price at Radioshack, but I don't know if the data plan hassle remains.

I bought mines from radioshack and yes i was forced to convert to one of their new DATA plans, After the changes were done i called up at&t to have my unlimited databack. They submitted a case to their so called "BUFU dept" and they switched my unlimited back in 3 days.
Keep in mind i called before the changes and confirmed that they will put back my data plan
Got mine at Radio Shack for $149. No hassle at all with data plan or setup. Took less time than it typically does at an ATT store.

[Q] Phone upgrade?

Who thinks sprints upgrade isn't as good as it should be. Your with them for awhile and when due for a upgrade after 2 years but is it really a upgrade.
Most of the free phones are older and not new lol there older no one wants them thats why there free.
You get the same thing a discount a new customer gets 150 off with a 2 year new contract WTF.You would think after being with them for awhile you get a better discount that would be nice.
So what do you guys think? Keep it on topic what you feel about the upgrade. Also without getting insane about money there making and losing.
Just a general question no flaming or you will be reported since this isn't a flame war just a general thought on what everyone thinks about it.

Because then people would constantly whine that new customers and old customers get different treatment. You want different treatment, go to Radioshack or BB.

Lol no just needs to be called something other then upgrade. Kinda dumb calling it a upgrade when your not really upgrading at all after all the money you pay for your bill over the course of 2 years.

So you don't think you're upgrading your phone from an old one to a newer one with more features? The money you pay over the course of 2 years is so Sprint can make their money back on the money they LOST selling you a discounted phone.
I'm sorry but this thread fails. Lol. An upgrade means going from old to new. From good, to better. You're going from an older phone to a newer phone. A good phone to a better phone. An UPGRADE.
It's the same with every other carrier. Sprint is no different.

Its the carrier I chose to do business with so I can't complain too much, they made it perfectly clear before I started signing away.

Lol not really a fail was a question to see what everyone was thinking that was all.
I see how alot of people see it even tho sprint makes a thousands of dollars every 2 years off you no one seems to care that the upgrade is ****ty lol sometimes it's not worth using the upgrade cause there is nothing worth buying at the moment sometimes the phone your using is better then whats out. So each to the own.
Was a general question doing a study on thoughts of people who like the upgrade and those who don't so no FLAMING IF YOU DO FLAME YOU WILL BE REPORTED AND YOUR COMMENT DELETED. SO KEEP IT NICE AND TO THE POINT. THANKS.
Well....... I mean.... no carrier is just gonna give you a free phone when you upgrade. Unless you pick a basic crappy phone. They're giving you a 300-400 dollar discount on a phone... that's generous if you ask me.
I can see how you might think a customer who's been with sprint for 2 or more years should get a nicer discount, yeah, that would be nice. But that doesn't mean we aren't upgrading our phones.

Ya I know what you mean man alot of people been picky with the store out here in TN the main big store in our area. There service people are a pain in the ass to get things done this is the only main store in the area.
Nicer discount would be nice you kinda sucks that they make there money back off the phone in 6 months and profit off you for the next year and half lol.
As an American I'm entitled to a free $600+ subsidized phone every year.

They don't make their money back in 6 months... it takes a minimum of 12 months to make their money back, after that is when they start making profit, assuming you're not taking advantage of the yearly upgrades in which then, they barely make any money back off of you.

Never tend to upgrade unless there is something new thats been out for awhile so the bugs are all worked out. They do make money off many things there not poor lol.
Well if your bill is 105 dollars every month that adds up quick in my book.

Leta see that's 1260 a year minus the 350 they ate for you getting the evo ($910), plus running the stores, network, payrolls, and what ever other expenses im sure they make a slim profit margin in there somewhere.
I worked at Walmart they said out of all the expenses they only make 2% profit off a sale.

True. I weaseled out of my T-Mobile contract with no etf after just getting the mytouch 3g for $99 by moving out of the coverage area by 10 miles. They took a hit there lol. They wanted me to pay for the phone. I refused.
