SE again take too much time.
We might see other handset makers moving to 2.3 when SE release 2.1 update.
Ya, also just thought of this.....no 2.2 means no adobe flash???
Hope they address the battery issue first it just drains on my x10

Found this on the forum there. And yes they do plan a near future update to address some performance issues and more specifically the battery issues.
http://www.xperiax10.net/forum/firm...a-x10-to-get-uxp-upgrade-in-q4-2010-t177.html
I jsut can't believe that we still need to wait till Q4 while others already running 2.1 for some time already. SE really should speed things up a little bit! In Q4 X10 properly will be an out dated phone....
if we have custom ROMs until then I couldn't care less about official updates

I thought about that too but I have since found out that the flash plugin could possible be made available as an app from the market.
See here:http://http://androidandme.com/2010/03/news/adobe-details-flash-10-1-installations/
It makes sense as it was originally understood that you needed 2.1 to run flash and not 2.2 (Froyo).
I guess having 2.2 means it's preinstalled.
Time will tell!
I guess that as 2.2 is not fully released yet, it is difficult for SE to say how or if it could be implemented. I've had SE phones for years and they are always very wary about promising things before they know they can deliever.
But I do agree that in this more open and enlightened age, SE need to engage more with their customer base...
I've always had issues with the Linux community releasing far too many releases far too often..
Very true in regards to 2.2 not being available yet. On the positive side of things SE can very well change their minds and go with 2.2 (if available). At this point they can only promise 2.1 although they should bump the timeframe up. Rogers is coming with the Acer liquid e which is preinstalled with 2.1 so SE needs to take that into consideration and bump the date up at least to june/july.

SE could change their minds but I think that if they have announced 2.1 it will be because they are currently working on 2.1.
Just as SE originally announced 1.6 and they delayed and delayed until 2.x was released. The launch was delayed so much that we all thought 2.1 could possibly ship with the x10. However the reason for the delay was down to bugs e.t.c. I guess they expect more of the same with 2.1.
If they were to change their minds and bring 2.2, we'd be waiting until the end of Q1 2011.
I just hope they are planning to support the device beyond the 2.1 OS.
I think they have said that they will continue to provide updates during the phone's lifespan (whatever that is....) But I guess they want to develop against a stable platform and no doubt don't want to develop against 2.2 until all the initial bugs are ironed out....
Hopefully they will speed up their development cycles, 6 months to migrate to a new baseline is far too long for their flagship device.....

You will need to get a "X20" same time next year for 2.2

Yeah X20 with 2.2 by the time all other phones are on Android 3.x
It's as if SE is only doing 'minimal effort' for their customers.

No doubt!
They should have make it into 2 releases for 2.1: 2.1 w/ all existing features/SE apps + bug fixes tested by mid year (June-July time frame) and another one with all those nice and new apps + features in Q4. That way we can be on par with the other (newer) Android phones sooner.
They should hire me as their release manager
On the other hand there is no incentive for SE to keep up the pace for X10 when they will announce newer phones later this year/early next year
err when is Q4?

Sure, Google might have just dropped Android 2.3 Gingerbread on the Nexus S just today, but that's old news -- Andy Rubin just took the stage at D: Dive Into Mobile and announced that Honeycomb is due "next year" with support for tablets. Andy demoed the new version of the OS on a Motorola prototype tablet, and it was very different, and highly customized -- although there were still grids of icons, the apps were more "desktop" in flavor, and the traditional Android buttons weren't present. We're waiting for more details, we'll let you know what's up.

Plus android tablet coming next year running it
Google's Andy Rubin brought more than just a Nexus S in his bag of goodies tonight. On stage at D: Dive Into Mobile, the man has brought with him a prototype Android tablet from Motorola. It's got video chat, an NVIDIA processor, a "dual core 3D processor," and... oh yeah, it runs Honeycomb, not Gingerbread. Little else is known -- Rubin immediately turned his attention to a new release of Google Maps -- but we wouldn't be surprised if we were looking at Stingray, a tablet rumored for a launch on Verizon shortly. Is it seven inches? Ten? We honestly don't know -- but our gut tells us on the bigger side of the spectrum, which would line up with rumblings that the Stingray would in fact be a full ten inches diagonally.

Funny u should say that cause i thought the same thing i thought it was just me
do you see that version of google maps? wow...
According to this website, there have been multiple rumors from independent sources at MWC stating that Gingerbread is supposed to drop OTA by the end of this week or early next.
Any truth to this or do you guys call shenanigans?
http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2011/02...e-to-hit-nexus-ones-within-the-next-few-days/
I'll believe when I see it.
I'm afraid this rumour is even less reliable than @googlenexus' tweet in the early December days...
Same.
10sames.
I really want to believe this one as there are multiple devices set to launch with Gingerbread, and it's been long enough. Yeah, I am running CM7 but I want it fully optimized with the OTA drivers.
Here it goes again...
I will believe it when I see it.

Eventually, one of these "here we go again" threads has to be the real one.
so wait, you said it might come this week, or next week.
so it might come in the coming weeks....and yeah this is what google has been saying all along.
let's see what happens next month.
They said "next few weeks" and that was 3 months ago, so following that logic, "next few days" will be 3 weeks
keep waiting...

Gingerbread ota will drop the day I purchase a babana shaped galaxy s.
Been running gingy on my N1 for some time now...In CM7 form.
BREAKING NEWS #mwc11: "#Nexus One #Gingerbread OTA": "In the next few DAYS".That STILL is:From this very instant up to the rest of eternity.
I understand all of the scepticism, but, with the slew of devices announced at MWC that are set to launch with Gingerbread, doesn't it make sense that the Nexus One should receive the update soon?
With the passion branch alive and well in AOSP, it's highly likely that the Nexus One is still a viable handset for Google.
I did wonder if we'd see an OTA during MWC. It seems to be a good opportunity for Google to promote Android with all these new devices that are lined up to launch with Gingerbread.
Can only hope at this point i guess

Good. I would propose, you just go and buy it right now, so we can have our Gingerbreadz
Well i've played around with some roms here, some mostly work and some are still a work in progress. I'd prefer to get a polished Gingerbread whenever they decide to push it out, not really rushing this one.
I'd wait for 2.4
After using some of the AOSP built roms out there, and seeing how they are a bit wonky, I am perfectly happy waiting for a polished release. If that means 2.4 with all the bugs and fixes, then so be it.
At the end of the day, even though people who own the n1 are desperate to continue to feel like they are up to date, the fact is that 2.2.2 is functional as hell, and there isn't much that is going to be augmented by the release of 2.4. Honestly, it will look different, im sure it will have a few improvements but the functionality will still be the same. It is not the type of jump we saw going from 2.1 to 2.2
The easter bunny will be delivering it to your doorstep....
FFS, rumors or not, I'll believe it when someone ACTUALLY gets an OTA for 2.3.
Let's wait and watch.
http://phandroid.com/2012/02/16/android-5-0-jelly-bean-could-launch-as-early-as-this-summer-rumor/
I really wouldn't really be too surprised if we did see Android Jelly Bean in the Summer, but more towards the end, say July or August time. There are already rumours of an Android 4.1 floating around as well.
Not sure about the whole booting into Chrome OS thing, that'd be like Google shooting down a whole market it's looking to tackle Ultrabooks with. Why buy an Android tablet AND have a Chrome book when you can have both. Though I doubt people would buy both anyway ha ha. Although, an Asus Transformer that docked to Chrome OS would be cool.
Perhaps we'll see this released alongside the fabled "Nexus Tablet" said to be coming, which I would absolutely love to see.
Cheers for sharing
Is Google going to forget me. My 9020a would love an official ICS. It would be neat to see some 5.0 out there though.

Wow... amazing!! but...I think rumor is just rumor
And all of sudden, I want Jelly Bean' UI is violet!!
Goggle shouldn't release it until 2013 in my opinion.
I think that to roll out a big update in less than a year is bad for android. The time that Google started to have one OS on all devices (mobiles and tablets) with ICS will probably lose this if the android 5.0 Jelly Beam role out so fast.

This summer sounds about right. Based on them taking about 6 months after releasing ICS to get it to the Nexus devices and probably another 6 months before other manufacturers start using it. That means if they announce JB this summer, towards the end of 2013 is when you will really see devices for it.
Fake. Hopefully

It makes sense that they will announce it this summer. When it actually ships, who knows. But they usually announce it months before release to give developers time to work with the api.
What if it's half true, 4.1 that's sound more like it
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Even tho ICS is mostly in the beta stage for the EVO 4G,Android 5.0 might be pushed out in the summer to beat windows to the punch on the realese of windows 8 for tablets so soon we might get some new goodies for Evo 4g and other devices.
Not likely, though Google execs implied that it could be rolling out in the fall.
"After Android 4 comes 5, and we haven't announced the timing yet, which we're still sorting out," Lockheimer said in an interview with Computerworld on Monday. "There's a lot of engineering work still behind it -- and there's also the question of how to time it.
"In general," he added. "the Android release cadence is one major release a year with some maintenance releases that are substantial still."
That statement would imply a fall 2012 release of Android 5.0, given that Android 4.0 was released last November, he acknowledged.

Summer would be cool though
Google will most likely try to get 5.0 out close to the time win8 and the iphoney 5 are released to compete with them im thinking probably early to mid summer since last year we had 2 releases gb at beginning of year and ICS towards the end 5.0 was actually put into development shortly after ICS was but is apparently alot more complex than any previous builds and may even be capable of running on other platforms such as home computers similar to win8

Hey,
While they might complete android 5.0 early they wont release it till other phones with windows and Ios put out their new software just to keep the market competitive, as cool as it would be to get it early! But we just are getting ics, so we can wait for the latest greatest!
