Another phone looks to be coming in April, (via BGR). Hopefully we also get 2.4 as soon as this launches, and that we don't have to wait...

uhhhhhhh... interesting to see ViewSonic coming to the battleground
they used to be famous for their Displays and Monitors... i wonder if they plan to release their own screens to fight against Samsung & Sony

Should be interesting. Also, I had not heard of a ViewSonic phone before this article, and I am not sure if I am liking its design.
Nonetheless, based on what you said, it's good to see others come along and hopefully compete with Samsung, especially since so many people do not like or want a Samsung phone - other than to have Samsung's beautiful phone screen.

it doesn't work that way you see...
we on SNS got 2.3 before any body else
including the old HTC N1 which are still stuck on 2.2 officially
unofficial ROM cooks of course released 2.3
so chances are we'll see the same with 2.4 or 3.0

I've seen two(2) videos showing 2.4 in the NS.
One of them showed 2.4 build GRI06B.
I'm not sweating...
Look in the I9023 thread.
Worst case: more fragmentation with I9020 2.3 and I9023 with 2.4...both being NS. haha

Well, the way they're treating N1 owners right now is rubbing me the wrong way, but I'm willing to give them benefit of the doubt. In fact, they could be just waiting till 2.4 is ready to give it to both Nexus 1 and Nexus S. We buy the Nexus phones partly because we are supposed to be given updates on a first priority basis. If Google decides to hold back 2.4 from us for another phone, they will have lost an Android supporter in me.

They already have an Android Device the "g Tablet". Although from what I have read the reviews say the screen sucks (poor viewing angle), surprises me since that is what they do. On another note the g Tablet has Android 2.2 and nVidia Tegra 2

I'd be shocked if we didn't get the 2.4 update, at the time of its launch. Especially since 2.4 doesn't seem to be Ice Cream, but rather a touch of Honey glazed over Gingerbread.
While I am kind of new to Android (and smart phones in general), I cannot see Google keeping this update from us NS users. Although, I am a little surprised that the N1 hasn't seen Gingerbread yet (OTA from Google that is).
Just curious, how many updates did the N1 get from the time of its launch, and what Android version did it start with (Eclair or Froyo?).
I'm really surprised the N1 hasn't seen GB officially yet. I would be curious to see 2.4

Not liking the Viewsonic design. I thought it was an external HDD.
I hope that the Nexus S gets its update, well if not at the same time as the release of the Viewsonic phone, at least a week or two after.

Google IO is around the corner, there is rumours that google is going to announce a new nexus similar tablet.
should i wait till after google IO, if no new announcement then get a xoom or should i just get a XOOM anyway.
i really want a device that will be supported directly from google (ie, update straight from google).
any more rumours on the nexus line of tablet?
what do you guys think? will google announce a google tablet in the IO?

Since you're in the UK, I would take a look at the Asus Transformer first, IMHO.
I was under the impression that the Xoom was gonna be Google's device....and also, on that note, since for now Google said no to company mods(ex. Touchwiz UX, etc.) then wouldn't every tablet running honeycomb get their updates right away?

Either way, the Xoom is running stock 3.0, it will get updates just as fast as any other stock 3.0 tablet.

I thought so ty.
but from my understanding, although the Xoom suppose to be the nexus of tablet, but this still confuse me, the recent update doesn't come stright from google. it came from motorola.
which means if google decide to release a new patch, its down to motorola to deliver to us. and if they choose to delay it, it will be a bad thing.
for example, waiting for 2.3 on nexus one is long enough, forget about on the motorola droid or other HTC handsets.

It was never advertised as such, but seeing as how everyone at Google working on android probably has a Xoom, I wouldn't worry about updates. The 3.0.1 update came through incredibly fast. Because the software is completely 100% stock and most android tablets are running the same tegra 2 platform, updates can happen much quicker.
Don't expect a nexus type tablet till after tablets become more popular, the same way it happened with phones. The xoom isn't the "official " nexus tab but it is the one considered it for now. You will not have to make this decision until next year, then we may see a nexus tablet or xoom2
Sent from my Evo using Tapatalk
Consider our Xooms to be the equivalent of ADP1. If no one is familiar or hasn't been around Android for that long:
ADP1 or Android Dev Phone 1, was not a Nexus device, but was the Original Google Development device. The device was incredibly similar to a G1, only released earlier than the G1, with a lot more downloadable goodies than the G1 had initially(pre community development). But the only 2 big differences in the G1 and ADP1 where radio lock and boot loader.
2 years post G1/ADP1 we have the Nexus 1.
Mr. Schmidt in a 2 second quote confirms ICS to be released in October/November of this year. We already knew sometime in Q4, but it's good to hear an official confirmation!
Droid Life News: Eric Schmidt: Ice Cream Sandwich Coming In October/November
Just looking out!
hopefully that equals nexus prime and/or xoom2 being released by thanksgiving
For some reason I've been pretty much banking on the fact that ICS is coming out in October. I can't remember where I heard it (or even if I heard it), but October/November cannot come soon enough.
I had my mind set on December for some reason, so keeping to that so not to dissapointed by the delays.

Not to be anal about it but Google does not own Motorola yet. Google as entered into a definitive agreement (i.e. contractually binding) to purchase Motorola Mobility but it still has to go through regulatory approval in US and EU before it can be completed. The acquisition will probably not be complete before Q1 2012.

I must admit that this would be a smart move on Google's part. I mean... I love the Droid's: I think they are the best by far. And with Verizon's network and their 4G LTE speeds, and with the release of the Droid Bionic, we have another epic phone joining Team Droid.
If Google were to buy out Motorola Mobility, would this make the Droid family the new Nexus? Meaning... the Droid brand would then belong to Google? If so, I am looking forward to that! The Droid's would become the official Google devices that get all the updates first.

Yeah after looking at an article about this I see that now. Still would be a neat thought if the Droid family was the official name brand for the official Google devices.
anyone see that news saying thyxe think the nexus prime will now be called samsung galaxy nexus?
rubbish name IMO makes the Nexus phone sound more like a spin-off of a Samsung Galaxy range and not a Google phone... pft.

Google has confirmed that it will update the existing Nexus S handset to new Ice Cream Sandwich Android software in the next few weeks, but has also said that its original Nexus One is ‘too old’ for the upgrade.
Google’s Hugo Barra confirmed that the latest version of Android will be delivered as a free upgrade to the existing Nexus S handset “within weeks”. He said the search giant was aiming to get the software to owners of the previous flagship phone shortly after the release of the new Galaxy Nexus handset next month, well in time for Christmas.
Owners of the first official Google phone, the Nexus One, will not be getting the upgrade, however. Barra said the hardware was simply too old to run the new operating system.
Google launched the Nexus One, which was made by HTC, in January 2010, and closed the phone’s support forum on 1 November last year. Some fans, however, had hoped that aspects of the latest version of the Android software would still be compatible with the phone.
Barra also responded to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s attacks on Android phones. He had said that users “needed a computer science degree” to use Android.
Barra retorted that “Android, especially this new version 4.0, is an incredibly intuitive platform – the best one we’ve ever built. There are power user features, but there is no need for an instruction manual or a computer science degree”, he said.
Barra added that criticisms in some reviews about slowness of the operating system were based on one faulty device at the launch event in Hong Kong. Barra said the new Galaxy Nexus offered 60 frames per second and was “buttersilk smooth”.
“The operating system is thought through with the needs of the next three years in mind; it’s a wholesale revamp of the way people interact with the phone,” he said. “It’s something we’ve designed for the masses; it continues to cater for power users really well but the entry level users will be able to use it really well too and make the phone their own.”
Telegraph
Already running ICS on the Nexus S, but can't wait for an official version where everything works perfectly. ICS is sooo good!
Steve would know, as he is a developer with a science degree. He loves his company.

So its within weeks or in time for christmass? Cause the difference is quite big.
It's within weeks of the Galaxy Nexus launch. Which is early/mid November then a few weeks which still makes it by xmas. I am guessing the first week of December my NS4G will get ICS.

http://phandroid.com/2012/02/16/android-5-0-jelly-bean-could-launch-as-early-as-this-summer-rumor/
I really wouldn't really be too surprised if we did see Android Jelly Bean in the Summer, but more towards the end, say July or August time. There are already rumours of an Android 4.1 floating around as well.
Not sure about the whole booting into Chrome OS thing, that'd be like Google shooting down a whole market it's looking to tackle Ultrabooks with. Why buy an Android tablet AND have a Chrome book when you can have both. Though I doubt people would buy both anyway ha ha. Although, an Asus Transformer that docked to Chrome OS would be cool.
Perhaps we'll see this released alongside the fabled "Nexus Tablet" said to be coming, which I would absolutely love to see.
Cheers for sharing
Is Google going to forget me. My 9020a would love an official ICS. It would be neat to see some 5.0 out there though.

Goggle shouldn't release it until 2013 in my opinion.
I think that to roll out a big update in less than a year is bad for android. The time that Google started to have one OS on all devices (mobiles and tablets) with ICS will probably lose this if the android 5.0 Jelly Beam role out so fast.

This summer sounds about right. Based on them taking about 6 months after releasing ICS to get it to the Nexus devices and probably another 6 months before other manufacturers start using it. That means if they announce JB this summer, towards the end of 2013 is when you will really see devices for it.
Fake. Hopefully

It makes sense that they will announce it this summer. When it actually ships, who knows. But they usually announce it months before release to give developers time to work with the api.
