Freezing on Music Tab update from HTC - HD2 General

Just received this from HTC;
Hello, I understand that your HTC HD2 freezes up when you are accessing your music. We are aware of this issue and we are currently in process of coming up with a software fix. Once this fix is released you will be able to locate this at http://www.t-mobile.com/wmupgrade. We have become aware that some of the freezing issues with the HD2 can be cause by the HTC Sense. You can disable this as well, to see if it helps in the mean time. You can disable the sense by going to Settings, Personalize, Customize Tabs. I want to apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. I want to thank you for contacting HTC.

Yup, the update that was officially released today (but leaked last week) is supposed to address the SMS freezing issues, and some users that have installed it have reported that it does make a difference.

if ur music tab is the problem what i did was downloaded mediamonkey and had it recode all mp3 files and it did the trick for me

What seemed to fix my music issues (granted I have over 5GB of music) was to copy the audio_manager.exe from the windows folder and past it into the start up folder. Now it only lags for a few second as it loads all the albums and it only does that when I restart my phone. Works a lot better!

Problems with the Titan

I was just wondering if anyone else have had any of these problems that I have been having.
1. Sometimes the phone will not play any sound at all no music, slide sounds, or ring but i can make a call and hear and talk perfect and the phone will vibrate when i get a call i made sure the sounds are on. Soft reset fixes this everytime but it seems to happen more now like every other day.
2. I have the 6 tab HTC home plugin on my today screen and it used to play music right off the today screen on its own media player not WM. Now when i try to use it it opens WM and i cant change songs from my today screen and it seems stuck on a song but it does not change or update the track info. The only thing it does is open WM when i tap the song name but nothing else. I think I might of messed this up when i reinstalled the WM play button today plugin and i now set the plugin to use the HTC audio manager but i would like it to control WM like i wanted to and the 6 tab plugin to control the HTC audio like its supposed to
3.Almost everytime i get 2 text messages at the same time or a phone call and text at or close to the same time this thing goes nuts vibrating till i turn it off.
4. Sometimes when i use Windows media player and use one of my playlist some of the songs say file cannot be found and i have to delete the song and go back and add it again when its in the same folder as it always is.
Anyone else having any of these problems or am i the only one? I have the new ROM installed and alot of other junk
the no sound problem i have encounterd. as a matter of fact it happened twice today. don't know what that's about.
as for the rest of your issues i have never experienced them. i do have the 6 tab home plugin and i do play music but i've never experienced number 2.
Do you have anything setup in your calendar? On one of the HTC Home tabs, it has the sound settings. If it is set on automatic, it will put the phone on vibrate if you have any appointments on your calendar, and turn back the sound when the appointment is over.

I also have the same 6 tab HTC today installed.
And almost everytime I get a txt or an email notification + a phone call at the same time, the unit freaks out, I can't answer the phone and I almost have to always perform a hard reset.
I have these installed:
- HTC Home Customizer
- TCPMP
- flashlight
- Google maps
- Opera Browser
- PHM RegEdit
- PocketCMD
- RDP Port Switcher
- Telus Mobile Email (visto client I think)
- X-Button
Running WM6
Same Problem.. No Sound
I am having the same problem!!
I am on my second Mogul now due to the fact that intermittently
all the sounds from the speaker stop working. (Ringer, Music, everything)
The sounds come back after a soft reset but it's very annoying!
I have seen other posts with people having this problem but no solutions.
I believe this is a software issue not a hardware as this is my second Mogul this is happening to (the first one I RMA'd for this same issue) and I have tried several different software products on the phone.
This is the what I had on the first mogul:
SPB Mobile Shell
SPB Phone Suite
SPB Pocket Plus
SPB Backup
IM Plus
Resco Explorer
Sk Tools
2kTweaks
This is what I put on the second mogul:
HTC Home (6 Tab)
HandySwitcher
IM Plus
Resco Explorer
SPB Backup
SK Tools
Both are losing all sounds after a period on time!!
If anyone can help me figure out I am periodicly losing sound I would be forever in your debt!!!!
Here's a crazy thought.... any of you try to do a hard reset and NOT load any third party or non-native apps onto the Mogul to see what happens for a few days?
TC1.... The phone is useless without some of these apps.... I can't pull out the stylus everytime I want to do something on the phone....
There are usually alternative apps. I guess the question is would you rather find the cause to the sound problem or run those apps?

Exactly.
This is troubleshooting 101... need to setup a controlled experiment. Start with the basic product and go from there. Note your observations. Add one application at a time and note your observations. Using deductive logic you'll eventually find the cause.
And others please don't whine about the Mogul being "unusable" without these extra apps. The Mogul functions out of the box as a phone and WM6 PDA. Do some of these apps make you more productive? Absolutely. But in order to troubleshoot you can live without them for a few days.
This is my 2 pda in less than 3 months when i 1st had it i didnt know i could install all these apps so it was at least a week or two before i found this site and a few others and i remember i installed the new ROM hoping it would fix the problem...still hoping...
IM+....
Some people have claimed that it's IM+ thats causing the issue........ I will uninstall it and see what happens.... Let's keep this post alive and get the bugs out!....
Got #2 onmy list fixed now i can use the HTC audio manager on my 6th tab and my windows on the today screen on the bar right underneath if i knew how to get a pic of my screen it would be easier to explain what im talkin bout...still waitin on a ROM fix or something.... or REV A

I agree 100% with you TC1.. I have similar apps listed installed on mine and have no issues. Now when I first came across HTC Home installer I did have issues with certain alerts / ringers not working. This was mainly if I had removed my SD card temporarily and at the same time received a call / alert. Of course it wouldnt sound but when I would put back the SD it still wouldnt sound so I had no choice but to reboot the device.
What I determined is setting the HTC profile to SILENT prior to removing the SD card avoids having to reboot in the invent I would get a message / alert / fone call. Since then no issues.
Also installing the more current HTC home helped out.. As ringer profiles on occasion would set itself to SILENT / VIBRATE on it own.
Ive always thought it had something to do with the 6tab HTC home plugin but i removed it and it still did it
I believe it has nothing to do with any 3rd party software but the phone (windows,HTC,Sprint) itself.... I just wish there was a way to fix it!!
Have anyone with WM5 loaded on their titan had these problems? I really wanna know y i cant use any playlist on my windows media player more then 5 times before it says file can not be found in libary when i have not moved anything
same probem quick fix
i get the same problem.
but all i do is turn it of and then turn it back on and it works great.
haven't figured out what is causing it, all i know is that it does it after i get on line. don't have any third party software on it yet so that could not be the problem. i am how ever looking for spb phone suite or anything with smson it for mobile 6. mogul titan

Problems

Hi,
Had my HD for just under a week now and I must admit I wasn't overly impressed with it at first. Quite slow in general and video playback wasn't great...decided to hard reset it and start from scratch...before I did anything I followed the performance increase tutorial on here and now I'm happy as larry with the HD - it's exactly what I hoped it would be even the keyboard is good on the screen in landscape mode.
However there is still one problem that I can't resolve or find a lot of information about...it's the music tab in the touch flo....yes I know there's a lot of posts about album art etc - but none seem to mention AudioManager_eng.exe crashing when you try to use it...other people have mentioned this on other forums but no-one seems to know what's going on...does anyone know what causes this...??
Thanks,
Dan

I saw that very early on when I started putting music on my HD.
By a process of elimination, I isolated it to a "rogue" music track, (or else my HD simply disapproves of Blondie ).
I suspect that although the music file in question played back fine on the PC, there was something about it that thoroughly confused audio manager to the point of crashing. I imagine that the meta tags are the most likely culprit, but never got round to conclusively proving that. When I removed the album in question and soft reset, the problems went away.
Note that you seem to need to soft reset the 'HD to make it rebuild the music indexes.

The most likely cause still remains an unsupported file. Wonder why though
Hey thanks for the replies!
Well I bit the bullet yesterday....got myself a few bottles of beer lined up and went through all the music I had one the HD. I firstly set my PC to show protected operating system files and begun checking everything. On my HD I am using the folder structure Storage Card --> My Documents --> My Music --> Album Name.
In all of the album folders I left only the mp3's and the album art image which i renamed to folder.jpg. I went back to the Music tab and the same crash occurred. So I turned off touch flow...deleted AudioManager_eng.vol then fired up touch flo again...this recreates the AudioManager_eng.vol but the crash still occurred.
I then removed all music and started to copy the albums on one by one...started with Foo Fighters and happy days it worked! So I continued on with the others until I got to Nirvana - Nevermind....anyway the tags on the mp3 for track number were 1 - 2 - 3 - 4/13 - 5/13 - 6/13...etc. Set all the tags to just the single track number and hey presto everything works fine...I can just dump music into the storage card following the same structure, hit the music tab and there it is ready to play!! I now officially love this device! lol Sorry for the long winded explanation! Thanks again for your replies!

Should I apply the HTC ROM?

Folks, I am an old ROM for my UK purchased HD2 1.48.405.2
Radio version 2.05.51.05_2
I have quite a few registry tweaks and cab files installed. I also have a few extra programs loaded though most are installed on my SD card.
I am considering the ROM update below mainly because the only issue I have is with the media player not being able to move between albums when in portrait mode and I wondered whether this fixed that issue (this ROM update seems to suggest it "might") but it may only apply to play lists!?
I am otherwise happy with my HD2 and everything works (no SMS issues, no pink camera shots etc). I have a little delay on the keyboard, especially when tapping the SMS area but it isn’t an issue for me.
My question is, does this ROM fix the problem with moving between albums in portrait mode. If it does I am happy to install this and go through the pain of re-applying all my changes MANUALLY!. If not then I probably won’t bother as I am happy with the performance of my HD2 (unless someone tells me that there are some “other” benefits).
What’s the general consensus?
ROM Upgrade for HTC HD2
Release Date: 2009-12-09

1.Flipping back and forth between songs is easier than ever. Whether you are listening to a defined playlist, or letting your phone shuffle your songs for you, your music will play continuously and fluidly.
In portrait mode there is no switching between albums, just in landscape... is that what you mean? In Portrait you can just skip song by song...
For the mediaplayer not being able to skip albums in LANDSCAPE one of you tweaks might be responsible for this. The thing HTC fixed in this update concerning the musicplayer was about songs not stuttering anymore while playing.
Thanks for the reply. The issue is the inability to skip albums in portrait (not landscape) mode. As I don't get any stuttering issues and there seems to be little (if any) other benefits to the ROM update I just won't bother.
I'd still say it's worth upgrading to the latest ROMs - battery life is improved with the newer radio so give it a go...

as mentioned in post 2, you can't skip albums In portrait.when you flick up and down in portrait it only skips through whatever tracks are in the "now playing" play list.to change albums without going to landscape you click library and choose the albums tab.

Thats exactly what i meant. That is what the landscape mode is for in the musictab --> to switch whole albums. The portrait mode ONLY ALLOWS you to skip single tracks, there is just no album function/skipping in portrait
Greets
I was in the same position as you two weeks ago - nothing too wrong with my old stock ROM (which was actually 1.43!), and I had taken a lot of time installing cabs, tweaking the registry etc...
BUT, 1.66 Vodafone ROM makes quite a difference to the general feeling of the phone (it feels smoother, quicker and more stable) and I have noticed absolutely nothing wrong with it at all.
Hope this helps with your decision!
Thanks folks. I think I will upgrade. There is just one tweak that I can't locate that I hce applied and wondered whether anyone knows where ig is. i have changed a registry location that changes the left soft button from "phone" to "contacts" which is very useful

No ring tone, no alert sounds, WMP not functioning.

Hi, today my HD2 started to behave oddly - when receiving a call the screen wakes up as normal but no sound nor vibration (as preset) comes with it. The same goes for any other alert - SMS, e-mail...When I try to change the tones of any alert the common preview while selecting doesn't cannot be heard. Even worse, when I tried to play any music from my library with Windows Media Player it started to skip quickly from song to song without playing a note, stopped at the end of the playlist. When I tried TCPMP it work without any problem - music and video.
Any suggestion before I will be forced to proceed to the next logical step - Hard Reset? BTW I am on stock ROM 1.66.479.2 (76641)WWE, I didn't install anything new recently nor have beeb experimenting with any SW.
Thank you in advance.
ive had issues with sounds when setting the system temp locations to a location that doest exist (experimenting with a ramdisk, but i suspect the pricipal would be teh same). maybe some kind of system temp location corruption?
hunt down all you can find on clearing temp locations. start uninstalling apps one by one,
(personally id backup and go for a straight hard reset for the hour it takes to be fully fundtional again vs the hours spent fault finding.)
I think I have your fix ...
I just came across this thread and thought I'd answer immmediately because I, too, have sufferred from this issue in the past. It took me a while to figure out why, but I did. Give me about 5 minutes to collect my information, and then I'll respond again...

Here it is ...
I have a document that I've prepared in Microsoft Word to store all the handy registry tweaks and solutions to previous problems. Here's the entry for what I believe is your problem:
Sounds or Ringing or Vibration Don’t Work
There MUST be a directory called Volatile here:
Mobile Device\Application Data\Volatile
YOU MUST SOFT RESET AFTER CREATING THIS DIRECTORY
The "Volatile" directory can be empty as long as it's there within the main device Application directory.
Peter
Thank you very much, will share the result
I face to same problem using HD2, thank you. your point is help me to fixed.
Whoa, you just saved me from a hard reset thanks alot Peter.
PETER HTC you are great! Thanx man!
Thanks I fixed it too

New MANGO for DVP is TOO FAST!!

i just installed it and noticed that MANGO is just waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy tooo fast.
animations are instant as if someone fast forwarded it by 8x.
this is in no way an exaggeration. can anyone who've installed MANGO attest to this?
bootup took less than 7 seconds.
not bad, just amazingly scary.

is there any issue using mango beta?
Zero issues aside from the fact that this is NOT final in anyway. It is means for developers to test their codes.
Nevertheless, if you are not a developer, I don't see a single reason not to use it since it is 99% functional assuming you're not a developer.
I am not a developer and i haven't found a single thing that does not yet work for me.
**even multitasking works!
(besides risk of brick and legal, but come'on =P)

yeah....Mango is scheduled to finish up end of July. DEV beta is for 2 purposes...get Devs familar...and to catch any framework type bugs that MS misses. Once Mango RTMS....it should be about 8 weeks or so before it could appear on new devices...End of September time frame. When an update will be available...hard to say...I would bet not before end of September...
Great news, cant wait to experience Mango
Just got my developer licensed copy of Mango, and the one that that I noticed is that the volume is louder. I know this because I had NoDo on Monday, while I was on the train I had to crank the volume to 30 just to hear the song (Octavarium, Dream Theater 8:32, not a slow part). However, with Mango on the train I can hear the same song, same part perfectly fine at 15-16 volume.
Also, does anybody have a way to put the custom ringtones on? Custom ringtones was an original release feature of Mango...
I've noticed that while animations are generally very fast and smooth, the stock applications tend to have more loading time than they did before. In NoDo, despite notoriously long load times for 3rd party apps, 1st party apps all popped up and were responsive immediately - with Mango, there's definitely more delay often times, for me at least.
Also, from the dev side, apps unchanged but compiled for Mango have some funkiness to them, but nothing too drastic I don't think. Most were made in the name of better performance it seems, so they're for the best, but can require some changes in the source code.

Strip a audio file using Audacity (or anything similar) to 39 secs or less and less than 1MB size. Save the strip'd file as mp3 or wma to your zune folder (for some reason mp3 ain't working for me using Audacity). Now load up Zune and go to the song that you strip'd and 'edit details'. In the Genre field, label it as 'Ringtone'.
Now copy/sync the song to your device.
You should now see the song as ringtone under Settings->ringtones and sounds. It will be in the top under custom ringtones while choosing it.
Alerts are limited to MS provided tones.
Note: You won't see this ringtone as a song in Zune player in the device.

Thanks man, Sorry to say your DVP Flashlight App is not working now that mango is installed. I used it a lot as the LED is more powerful than I first thought.
Does the current dev build of Mango address any of the color banding / 16-bit color depth issues?
My DVP with Mango is super fast and the boot time is the fastest I've ever seen on any device. My WiFi is still busted though, so once that is fixed it will be all good. I may not even need to upgrade to one of the new phones coming out with Mango...
Sent from my Venue Pro using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
how are you guys upgrading to the Mango beta? I wanna try it on my phone really bad.
I found this tutorial here but Im not sure if it applies to DVP as well?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15616683#post15616683
Oh and also, how did it affect your battery life?
battery life is amazing!
I love mango but I'm having an issue, if I call someone I can't hear anything on the internal speaker. I have to switch to speakerphone to hear them but if they call me it works just fine. Not sure what's causing that issue.
question for the ones that flashed Mango.
Does the camera app finally saves your settings now? and can you turn off the shutter sound off?
Yes and yes.
Headset volume
Is the low headset volume improved?
I believe the headset volume is better, however some will disagree. I think it will be much improved once the firmware + mango final is on the phones.
