How to get $20 giftcard when you get your EVO with BB - EVO 4G General

I cant say 100% that this will work for you, but it did for me and it did for other people as well. You may want to ask to speak with a mobile manager or something to that extent, you could get better results if you do. It's really simple, here's what you do:
ASK
that's it, you just go in and ask if they will match radio shacks offer, most likely they will. It won't hurt to try, they won't cancel your order and throw you out just for asking so go ahead, try it. And as always, be nice as well.

dang!
i can't believe it worked for you. i asked a few days ago, b/c i was the shack had the $20 gift card...no go. the mobile manager her said no...maybe i'll go back and ask a higher up person...i guess best buy's policy is the 10% back still on lower prices right? anyway, i'll try it again! ...nice work!!!!

Rogers $50 Credit for Magic/Dream users

So for those of you who don't know the price of the Rogers Android Phones drop to $99 on July 1st. If you are like me and got yours right when it came out you can get a credit for the difference ($50).
I got mine, took a few tries to get the “right” CSR but after he went to 2 different managers he finally got it approved for me
I bought the phone June 2nd, on a NEW 3 year contract and called today, over a month after I got the phone.
At first they didn’t want to give it to me because of the 15 day price adjustment BS policy, but being polite, friendly and stern will get you a long way. Remember most people that call customer service, yell and are upset, I know it’s hard to hold it back, but take it from me (spent 3 years working in a call center) being nice WILL make a huge difference.
Thanks for the tip Billy and Samuel M. at androidincanada.ca , $50 is a lot for a student
More info here
Awesome. Thanks so much for your post riddimmaster. At first I was disgusted when I saw this price drop. But, familiar enough with calling Rogers to try and get the best deals I can.
Anyways, I called Rogers right after reading your comment. At first the CSR said he would give me $25 back. I told him I appreciate the gesture, but I would appreciate something a little more significant then this. Explained how it is odd for a company to have such a price drop after only a month of the product being on the shelves (obviously due to Iphone 3gS coming out). He explained the 15-day policy, I commented that's fine for a store where you are buying a product, not a service. But I bought this with a 3-yr commitment + data plan.
So he said the best he could do is $25, I requested at that point he speak to his manager. He was insistent that his manager wouldn't have anything better to offer, but I requested politely that he try anyway. He came back and offered me $100 credit, obviously that pleased me.
I realize you probably were only interested in the actual $ amount I was credit. I rambled a bit there, just in case you need some guidance as to what points to bring up if you are having a hard time.
Again, thanks to riddimmaster and the androidinCanada website for posting this information.

$100 congrats, I have to admit I'm a little jealous
I also heard the Android launch in Canada didn't go as well as expected, so that could be another reason for the price drop.
People complain about the inconsistency of Rogers and other providers, but this is a prime example of how you can use it to your advantage.
There is also the "Hardware Upgrade Rebate" you can try to get here. I know I'm not eligible because I signed a new contract but I'm keeping my fingers crossed, it's worth a shot for the price of postage.
I saw the price drop the day it happened, got $100 back on two phones (magic)though. ($100 total) But I also got them to lower my monthly bill by $14 a line so I'm really happy now. Just have to be persistant and talk to the right guy.

Does this work if I buy the handset without any contract?
i spoke to a customer service manager, apparently it has to had been bought 15 days before the price went into effect

[Guide] Buying your Nexus One ~Family plan too!~

So... Everyone is still getting screwed by Google 'eh? How about that $279 that basically no one can get because we are all on family plans... Well THERE IS A WAY AROUND THIS! >.> <.< Quick before Google catches on, buy yours.
Now that the fun is out of the way =) I don't know if this has been posted anywhere else, I looked but... We all know how that goes. Disclaimer: This is based 100% off personal experience, I tried everywhere to find a better way to buy it, and trial and error got ME here. So don't steal my stuff eh? ~Note: If you can link me to somewhere that already has this I'll give them credit, but I really figured this out myself.~
Tested on 2 upgrades on my personal family plans.
So we know that you have to be on the "Even more" type plans to get a discount, or even be eligible for one right? (Well now you do) So what to do for those of us who have been with T-mobile for years, and are eligible for an upgrade, but we have a different type of plan (this workaround is ONLY tested with family plan).
So Here is what you do:
~Give T-Mobile a call and ask them to change your plan to an Even more (any one of the eligible ones) at the END of your billing period.
-Basically what this does is put an "activator" (their word not mine) on your plan which will switch your plan to the even more when your account month is up, this doesn't change any info yet!
~Log onto Google, and buy your phone! As soon as they put the activator on in their system Google's system registers it and you become eligible for the upgrade discount. ($279)
~Give T-Mobile another call before the end of your billing period, so basically before the activator changes your plan, and cancel that activator. Everything on your current plan will remain intact, and Google doesn't charge a cancellation fee. (Havent yet =>) I recommend doing this after you've received your phone or when you can see it is shipping. Just in case.
If you have any questions feel free to ask, but this worked for me! 2x! Woot loop hole! Besides it was time I gave back to XDA. If you wanna donate.. I haven't figured out how that works so what ever...
1/26:Still no fee so... Yep!
Just to be safe I want to make it clear this is a short term result so far and you should always talk to T-Mobile before changing anything!
Google hasn't charged the ERF yet... How can you be sure that they won't? They have 120 days to do it...

This would have been good info to have prior to my struggles with the process. In the end, though, I am glad to have bought it unsubsidized. Good catch though.
I think it's still too early to speculate that you won't get charged an ETF. There is still plenty of time for google/tmobile to charge you the fee and/or locate and charge people using this loophole. All they would have to do is check the # that was upgraded and check with tmobile at the end of a billing cycle and see if it is still on the supported plan.

So you're making what appear to be definitive claims, without actually knowing if you're right in the long term. You're only right "so far"? Isn't it irresponsible of you, considering that people may rely on your conjecture and end up being charged $350 as a result?
2 Reps said it shouldn't void the terms of sale... so if I get screwed ill let you guys know but if it doesn't work I would have at least liked to know about it... call them yourself to verify!
I'd probably suggest putting a disclaimer on your first post saying that only so far you haven't been charged, and it is possible you may be in the future. To prevent other people from just blindly following your suggestions.
Haha its in 2nd post

The FedEx overnight shipping is awesome! Do you have to be home for delivery though? ie, do you have to sign for it, or is it such that you can leave a note asking that they leave it in your mailbox type thing? My purchase date will be affected by this, and I am sure others will be as well.
I honestly don't know might ask I know mine had to be signed for

I had a feeling it would be that way... wonder if I should set the shipping address as my work then? That would guarantee it would get signed for, they also get delivered to around 11AM instead of 4PM(FedEx always comes around 4PM to my place)... and seeing that I work 5 days a week, and live 2 blocks away, doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Yeah, you can do that... just make sure you call your credit card company and let them know what you're doing and to expect a charge for the amount you get quoted by Google as soon as you place your order. The credit card company can hold up the transaction for an extra day or two to investigate since the shipping address and billing address will be different. It happened to me (had the phone shipped to my sister's place in Chicago where I was visiting when the N1 was released).

Are sprint employees trained to be rude?

I have no service in my home and they've never been able to get my air rave to work. But, everytime I call, they basically tell me to **** off.
Why are these people so horrible? Do they get beaten over there?

**** your not the only one who had sprint be rude to them they told me there not goin to do nothing to keep me as a customer after leaving m on hold for 4 hours to try and fix my old phone **** SPRINT! by the way to maybe help fix your problem go to geekforme.com and try downloading latest radio assuming your rooted. i found fresh toast 2.1 to be a good rom just a bit of bugs but with the radio i have better signal
Sorry, double post
Yeah, I've tried all of the radios. I just get no service in my house in the desert. I even confirmed that the area was covered before I signed up. Then they sent me an airrave that never works and everytime they say it's set up, and it isn't, they lose all record of me and it's "but, sir, you don't even have an airrave on your account" and "did you try calling airrave support?" and all sorts of other snippy, rude, arrogant comments that give Sprint absolutely no responsibility in the matter.
These are horrible, horrible people and I am thinking of having my lawyer explain to them what a breach of contract is.....
If they don't have an airrave on your account there might be an issue, but they did tell my parents that the airrave needs to be in a window so that it can get GPS signal(don't know why, but seems to make a difference). I think it may have something to do with supporting the 911 system.
Yeah, it's in the window. It literally takes them 2 or 3 days to troubleshoot it each time, only for them to lose all sight of me in the system.
Then, when I tell them I am sick of spending hours on hold and having all of my previous notes lost only to start over again and sit on hold, their answer is "sir, I see nothing about an airrave in your notes"
I hate these people.
I don't know man but that Droid Incredible is looking kinda good, and with Verizon's coverage in rural areas it might be worth checking out

Oh, I'd be all over it in a heartbeat.... but Sprint doesn't see any reason to let me out of my contract.
Hopefully, my lawyer can convince them otherwise....
I don't know if the will help but when u call and the moron answers tell them to transfer u to customer retention dept. They will usually kiss ur ass. Also I've found when u get a rude csr that hanging up and calling back usually will get u to a nicer person. Every company has a douche who hates their job. Just gotta weed through the tards till u find one that's competent and wants to actually help
Sounds like you are getting the ****iest of people when you call, which sucks, but I can assure you that the rudeness is subjective, we aren't trained that way.
For your case, the best option is to talk to Airave support directly, and, is your Airave on a seperate account from your primary? If so, we would still be able to pull it up based on the information located on the Airave itself.
With the lawyer, do you a copy of the contract? (I would naturally assume you do)

I remember calling Sprint and telling them I have low signal as they told me I am in a green area. Funny thing is not even a couple seconds later my phone dropped. They made me pay $100 for the Airave but I get free service. The airave is still intermittent. I will still drop calls next to it.

You don't need a crook lawyer. Call the FCC or sprint corp to get out of the contract.
Oh, regardless of what you try and do, Sprint will still try to stick you with a fee for closing an account. I had an employee line for 3 years after I life radio shack and they send me a text one day saying Either sign a 2 year contract at XX price, or call can get the line disconnected by XX Date, because you are no longer eligible for the plan. SO I call and cancel and after 8 hours of fighting with them, they still tried sticking me with an $80 ETF. So, I proceeded to get a hold of my rep where I used to work over 3 years ago, and he said hey I will call you back in 5 minutes. He calls back, Says You're set to go, you can go pay your bill now. Fee was removed.
Recently I opened a line of service and got the number changed to a different area code. I always do checks for upgrades on the phone number(s) I have, and lo and behold, it said I was eligible for an upgrade on 5/1/2010 for the $150 off, and $75 off as of 7/1/2009. So, I keep an eye on it because I planned to get the Evo, which, I have done this before without a problem, and suddenly without my knowledge or consent, my account was modified and the upgrade eligibility removed. I call and talked to the biggest a-hole in all of Sprint yesterday. I was bout ready to get both lines shut off and tell them they can shove their etf's up their rear end, because the way these idiots treat me is no way to keep customers. I'm going to go through my cache and check, but I think I still have a cached page of when the site told me I was eligible, and I think I am going to go to either Radio Shack or Sprint on the 4th and not leave until they give me what their website says I am entitled to.

Just my train of thought:
Unless you have a lawyer on retainer, isn't the price of starting the case more than the $150.00 bucks to get out of contract? Does Sprint pro-rate the termination Fee like Verizon and US Cellular(Subtract 6 dollars a billing cycle)?
If you are thinking that Sprint would pay back legal fees, I doubt it, unless you actually go to court over it all, and its ruled will they pay legal fees, usually they will give you a settlement and you pay your attorney out of that. In this case, the pittence of a settlement over a contract breach($150.00) seems like something not worth the battle.
Given, I am not in your shows and don't know what the have done to get you this pissed off. I can assure everyone that my experience has been sprint is the best most customer satisfaction orriented, best priced carrier in the US.
If you do have a lawyer on retainer, what kind of trouble do you get into?
Yeah, I've been dealing with customer retention and they've been rude. Mainly because they don't believe me that I have set up the airrave in the past because it is unfathomable to them that their notes could be wrong.
Told them to cancel me out and I'd just pay the $200. All of a sudden, they care......
......on hold now.
Oh, and my company has lawyers on hand.... they're free to me.
Oh, they're offering me all sorts of **** now....

Unless the line of service you opened was opened in 2008, your eligibility would have changed when you added the new line of service. Your eligibility is usually in 12 and 22 month increments. So to be eligible on 7/1/2009, you would have had to make the change 7/2008. If a change was made after that, it would move the date ahead accordingly.

Adding additional line/phone to account RE: upfront payment

Hey all,
I just have a question for the people knowledgeable with the inner-workings of account structure with Sprint.
I need to add an additional line to my current plan and was going to pick up an EVO for myself and give my current Hero to my brother (whom I'm opening the additional line for). I was just on Sprints website, doing all the work, and toward the end, it said that all charges will be placed on my regular monthly bill. Seems logical, sure.
My question is, is this a policy explicitly carried out online, or would I be able to walk into a Best Buy or Sprint store today and have the same thing occur? If that is the case, I'll go set this all up today via a store front if I'd be able to apply all charges to my bill.
Thanks for any input
Sometimes sure. But, other times you may not get the same deal in the store than you would online.
Couple points for your sake:
1. New phone from Sprint, needs to stay on the line it was purchased on, for 30 days minimum to get the $100 rebate.
2. You can pay $199 oop at Best Buy/The Shack and switch it after the transaction is complete.
3. Not sure how the $10 EVO charge is applied. Would it be to the account or the number?
Just some thoughts. Have fun with the EVO!
Well thank you all for taking the time to lend advice. I ended up going to Best Buy to talk to someone about what I need to do.
First off, the guy said they didn't have anymore EVOs, nor did any retailer in the vicinity. Then he told me that I would have to upgrade to a family plan to add this other line for my brother. I'd be going from $69.99 to $129.99 give or take $20. I totally forgot to think about that aspect. I called my brother to tell him no dice unless he's willing to fork over at least something to help offset the additional cost -- he said thanks, but no thanks.
So, I get home and get curious -- log back onto Sprint.com to see how much it would be for me to just buy the phone outright. I went ahead and just put it on my tab. I'm a nut for gadgets, and have been more than financially frugal for well over a year, so I figured I'd buy myself something for once, lol.
Anyhow, thanks again!

I asked the same question to sprint and basically was told the same. Except the $10 goes with the phone and not the line of service. So if you buy from the shack or BB Mobile you can change the phone to a different line and the $10 will follow the phone. However like stated before if you wait for the rebate then you will have to wait for 30 days to switch the phone to a different line.

Sprint Returns

Since we have this '30 day, if you don't like it. return it' thing, I planned on returning mine just for the simple fact that I want one that was built better (minor glass separation/light leakage/etc). My question is, does Sprint monitor this and make notes on your account?
I'm a new customer coming from AT&T, and after my discounts they don't really make too much off me and I heard the more money you spend the more they're willing to be flexible. I know AT&T had a red to green meter in terms of how much 'trouble' a customer was based on how much they get every month and what they've done for you, does Sprint do the same thing?
PS: Does anyone even know what the meter is supposed to tell the workers who see it? Be nicer? Be meaner?
PS: Anyone have any clue when the new shipments come? Every store in a 50 mile radius of me is sold out and clueless.
Nah I don't think they do...You will have to pay a restocking fee though (about $35)
If its defective, they will exchange it. No reason for your mystery meter to be involved.
Well when I talked to SCS (*2), they said that the people at the store would be the final judge on it and I get the feeling that they won't agree that my leak leakage and screen separation is enough to be considered a defect. The girl I talked to said it was only cosmetic so they wouldn't just exchange it.
After reading posts, it seems like every different person you talk to says something different. Such a pain that they don't have a set procedure for something like this.
tell them you'll return it and go purchase it somewhere else.
They'll exchange it easily if you're within your 30-day window. Just go ahead and check it out.
Just tell them, why the ****-would-anyone pay so much to get locked into a 2-year contract to get anything less than a perfect phone (cosmetic & hardware wise)? Ask them if they would buy a brand new car with dings and dents on it. I mean, it's only cosmetic right? I'm sure the car drives fine.
And then see what the manager says.

Thank you. I've been trying to figure out how to explain it without sounding like a **** and you've summed up everything I've been trying to say.
I'm not sure what to do at this point, seeing as I have no idea when the new models are supposedly coming out or when the stores would even have them in stock. Is my best bet just to return the phone outright, cancel my contract and wait? Think I'll get hit by a restocking fee?
I for one can praise Sprint's 30 day money back. *2 people were excellent and politely answered all my questions. Also the Sprint store was excellent as well. I just walked in with my Evo, box, and receipt and told them that I would like to cancel. Employee took my phone and started processing my request No Questions Asked. During the process she just politely asked me as to why I was returning, I just told her that I wasn't getting 4G at my home. I got a full refund and she even offered to return the Silicon case I had bought from Sprint. Now that is customer service. Got a full refund (no restocking fee because she said my phone was defective), full refund on my silicon case and I didn't even have the charger for my phone. Could of easily kept the red battery and 8GB mSD card..
Sprint is awesome. I was wondering the same thing as well. If I cancel and get it again in a few days will it matter? If not I'm getting another Evo asap.
I just realized something as I was gathering all the things that came with my EVO. I think I mailed the original receipt to get my rebate. They should be able to pull up all the information still right?
My situation is a little different. I bought the EVO at full no contract price. I need to exchange it for a new one, but we all know you can't find any in stock. I got mine from sprint.com. They insist on doing an exchange, just so that your 30 days is from the original purchase. But since I payed full price, I'm just gonna pay full price for another device and return the EVO (no exchange). That way, I have 30 days from the new purchase. Surely they should have some EVO's in stock by then. Paying full price, I refuse to settle for a refurb.

ok, i admittedly have no first hand experience with this, but it is my UNDERSTANDING that you have the 30 days on the first phone, but the second one you are stuck with (unless, of course, you purchase another one outright). like i said, that's just my UNDERSTANDING from speaking with a Sprint rep last year.
and i have to BELIEVE that when the fixed EVOs come in, that Sprint will waive the 30 day window for, let's say, seven days. they've worked so hard to improve their reputation for customer service that it would be silly to wipe out all that hard work and spent money all at once.
There is NO RESTOCKING FEE if you are a new customer within the 30 day trial period.
