Asked this in Q&A section, but guess its a bit more relevant to here!
Probs a simple (or stupid ) question, however -
I've just installed the official TP2 update, just wondering how or what triggers the full screen weather effects on the calender/homepage?
I've seen screenshots and vids etc of the full screen effects but haven't actually seen them so far on the today page. Is there specific config or do they just "happen" on their own randomly.
Thanks in advance
betas
I think those are still in beta test phase. THere are a few ROMs here on XDA that have it built in. Look around in the various ROMs and see.
I am using the standard HTC WWE WM6.5 ROM and when I first installed the ROM I noticed the full screen weather animation at the home screen, however I have not seen it since for some reason! I'm not sure why, but it was cool and I want it to come back, not sure how.

Your not the only one. On 1st install, the weather was "foggy" and I got full screen fog. I've never ever seen it since, even though I had other "foggy" days. This is on the stock HTC WWE 6.5 ROM.

Yes, saw the same Could this be a feature of the HTC ROM? Can those using a cooked ROM comment?
dunno if this helps, but I have only seen the weahter animations on the home screen when you have default wallpaper.
As soon as you change to a custom wallpaper the animations stop.

You may be right! I switched back to default HTC wallpaper, put the phone in standby and then when I come out of standby the weather animation appears. Well, if that's true, that kinda sucks that we can't have the animation and the wallpaper of our choice.
The full screen weather animation is only for Leo ROMs which are Manila 2.5/6. The TP2 official update is only to like 2.2 (dunno what it is officially but it's not 2.5/6. Anyhow, you won't get the full screen weather unless you flash a custom ROM (or so I've heard and seen).

comfirmed this works.
Tis a shame, even with a basic non animated wallpaper it doesn't work. However least we know the fix/workaround so there is a choice to be had.
kudos to reaper for the heads up.
I'm using the Max Manilla 2.5 Ultimate 1.1 theme (see picture in sig) and it allows
me to chose my own background and still shows the weather animation
on the home screen. You can even trigger the animation yourself by tapping the top left corner of the screen.
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551489 to find it.
Read through the first 2 posts to see all the options this theme has.

What version of manila? Have you set your own wallpaper or using the default?
<edit> Is there any way to manually change the windows default wallpaper? Might be a quick hack to get a user specified background to work? </edit>
HTC HD MIRI V 13.0 No weather wallpapaer animation at all but weather demo is their nay suggestions?
I agree.
I have been running the custom Energy rom with Manila 2.1 and if I switch back to the HTC Black today theme then I get the full screen animation.
Thats the only one that has the full screen.

I have the latest Photon with 2.5, and if I set the wallpaper to default, and change the theme to HTC Black, then go to my home screen, tap the windows menu, then it back, it will full animate. Had sunny rays shoot out, and now have partly cloudy clouds drift across.
when i used energy photon 2.1 with hdwall for my tab backgrounds i had no problems. using his leo 2.5 and its there as well. i highly suggest using hd wall because some backgrounds seem to cancel out the weather animations
Task Manager
Whenever I hit the task manager in the top right hand corner while on the home tab, it usually triggers it. Hit it twice. Once to bring it up. Once to make it go away. Boom. Weather.
I have the official TP2 update for wm6.5, the weather animation can be activated on the home screen only with the default wallpaper. Also it can be brought up at will in two ways. hitting the windows start button soft or physical and closing it out by hitting the call end/home button or tapping the x in the top right corner immediately.
Hello. Long time lurker, first time poster.
So, I want to have my wallpaper of choice on only my home screen, and have the weather animated as well. I'm running Verizon's official 6.5 upgrade with, as I understand it, Sense 2.1 (I haven't been able to confirm that the way I could on the old ROM, though).
I made a cab of the wallpaper with the nearest I could find to the proper settings, which was TouchFLO v2.1 - No Compression - Home Tab. HDWall tells me that I need Co0kieMonster's Patch. I found it here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529730, though it definitely seems to be meant for the Blackstone, and not my Rhodium. Not able to find anything better, and not knowing my specific version of Sense, I tried a number of his cab's, starting with the Verizon specific one, and then running through all of his 2.1 variants. At the best, there was no noticeable change on my phone. At worst, the clock would only display white boxes with bits of black in them (and wouldn't flip up to show the text version), the Call History became 0 Missed Calls and my calendar appointments wouldn't show up on the home screen. Trying different settings for home screen only in HDWall either resulted in no change to my wallpaper, or the icon bar at the top being weirdly skinned or turning green (which makes sense, since I wasn't using the correct settings). HDWall works fine creating a wallpaper for all my tabs, but I don't want that.
So then, does anyone have a solution to suggest? I can't imagine I'm the first one to have tried to do this with this particular configuration. Any advice and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I believe this is what you are looking for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503511&highlight=hdwall
This has the patch included already.
If you want to change the wallpaper of the home screen without affecting other tabs then go to settings on TF3D and change the home wallpaper. Then install this cab, soft reset, and the animated weather will be on top of any custom wallpaper...

Gah! That was sooooo easy! It was just a cab! I'd put probably three hours into getting this to work, and there was a cab for it. Thank you so much!!
So now I have another question:
When I installed the cab, the top curtain on my home screen disappeared. I was thrilled about this, because I was going to get rid of it next anyway. As a result, though, the clock shifted upwards to fill the space (around 1/4"), but the weather animations didn't. In most cases this doesn't mean anything. However, when it's sunny and there's the lens flare, it comes from just below the sun instead of inside it. When icicles form on the clock, they're happening a quarter of an inch below the top edge of the clock, rather than on the top edge.
These are minor issues, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a fix. Thanks in advance...
I already have weather animation on mine. I didn't add anything. Is this stock T-Mobile 6.5/2.1?
Mine's the stock Verizon 6.5/2.1. My issue isn't that I don't have the weather animations (I do, both with the default wallpaper and, thanks to the above cab, with custom wallpapers as well), but that the clock on the homepage isn't where the phone thinks it should be, which results in the weather animations being misplaced a bit.

I don't think it will, no. The weather clock on the homescreen is limited to WinMo 6.5 and Sense UI, as far as I know, and this cab is for that.
Once your official ROM upgrade hits though, you should be able to use it, so maybe save it until then. It shouldn't be more than a month and a half before it's released.
Hi,
I saw a video from Droid X were was shown the ability to resize widget’s,
i think that’s very cool.
Do you think It’s possible to port the widgets and the ability to resize for magic? or even the whole rom to magic since it seems very simple and very vanilla like?
Thanks....
If you use ADW launcher, you can do that
Resize
how do i resize the widgets with ADW.launcher? what widgets is possible to resize?
Thanks
This has nothing to do with developing roms.
I'm moving to General.
Resize
Sorry my mistake...

When you add a widget (it could be any widget) a popup will appear with the default dimensions and give you an option to change them. I guess it is "cool" but it purely practical terms it's kinda pointless.
-First if you stretch or shrink a widget without keeping it's aspect ratio it will look awful
-If you stretch a widget all the graphics will look horrid because they aren't are still at a lower resolution just stretch
-If you shrink a widget any text becomes unreadable, this isn't a problem on high resolution WVGA devices but it is on the Magic.
It's possible, but there's a reason it isn't officially supported.

Thats way i’ve liked what i saw in the video (sorry but i cant find it now) the example was the calendar, the widget change the organization it self. Its like HTC Calendar Widget, that have the grid, the bar and a event list, but there you can change just by resize, it’s not a simple stretch... if i find the video i’ll post it

Well then you're not resizing, just choosing a different widget in itself.
Hi,
I'm using HTC HD Mini for last couple of months now. Though I love some of the weather, clock animations, at times I feel its slowing my phone.
Does anyone knows how to hide the clock, weather and call history section from the home screen?
Can I have just simple wallpaper screen without these animated clock and call history section?
I would love to see the static wallpaper instead of these animated widgets.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
- Abhijeet
That would be awesome!!!!!!!!!
All settings->home->items and uncheck HTC Sense choose home plugins you want.
Not like that way...
There's no way to remove the clock, weather, and call history link on the homescreen.
Although i found a way to speed things up. The biggest resource hog among them is the weather app. Disable the weather tab, and do NOT update it. Let it just die off after a few days.
With no more data for weather, and the weather tab disabled, the weather animations and info on the homescreen will soon disappear. Leaving only the location written under the big clock cards. This will free up several megabytes of ram. I'm not sure exactly how many mb. But somewhere closer to 10mb. Giving your HD mini phone a boost in stability and speed.
Until Cookie's Home Tab isn't compatible with HD mini I think it won't be possible to rearange/add/remove items on HTC Sense home screen. Unfortunately Cookie Monster is not going to do it, but he allows anyone who can do it to base on his work and port it to HVGA, so we have to wait... I hope
I have been creating a few VW style wallpapers for a while in 480 x 800 as jpeg's.
When I assign it as the today/lock screen it is not centralised. As when I press start the image moves up. If you understand? I'll try and get some screenshots.
I have an Image of a BBS alloy before and I'm sure that this didn't do the same. I was pretty sure the resolution was 480 x 800. Is this correct?
Hoping somebody that creates themes/wallpapers could help me out.
I'm using photoshop CS3.
Thanks,
Al.

I think the image you see when you go into the start menu, is the 'lock screen' wallpaper, so i think it displays this between the top and bottom bars... so if you're using CHT or another app to make your wallpapers fullscreen (i.e. cover the top and bottom bars) it'll look weird.
I had the same issue..... i think
yup 480*800 is correct...
Yeah, I was pretty sure on the resolution. But yes. It does cut out the top and bottom where the black bars are. Is there a way to stop it doing this?
What is CHT? I'm not using that to make them fullscreen I don't think.
Its just when I make the wallpapers because I crop most of the image and line it up with the bottom of the picture for a good "look" It most likley cuts it off on the today screen. Which cuts some of the detail out sometimes. So I have to make sure that it is far enough up the screen. I suppose I could get the resolution between the two bars. Although when you get the lock screen there would be two gaps.
Is there a way to have a different lock screen?
A reg key pointing to the image?
Thanks,
Al.
when i used to be a WM user, this is what i figured out about WM6.5(.x) behavior.
the HD2 has a 480x800 screen. WM6.5 can be set to have a wallpaper (***cough***iPhoneSux***cough). WM6.5 can also be set to have transparent "top" and "bottom" bars.
now, things start to get a little confusing.
1. ideally, we would like to see the ENTIRE wallpaper on the lockscreen and homescreen, with the status/notification icons overlaid.
2. similarly, we would like to see the ENTIRE wallpaper behind the start menu. if transparent "top" and "bottom" bars are used, we would like them to be transparent when the rest of the wallpaper is visible as just described in the scenarios.
3. however, we would like the transparency to go away when an application is running in the foreground (being able to see thin strips of the wallpaper when an application covers the rest of the screen looks silly i guess).
it turns out that WM6.5 ALMOST covers all those requirements. it sort of fails on the homescreen (where it matters most!). now, things get complicated on the homescreen also. there may be:
a. NO homescreen plugin OR...
b. the native "titanium" homescreen OR...
c. HTC's "sense" homescreen (also called touchflo, manila, etc)
now, simply using a 480x800 file yields the following results...
i think i remember that (a) fails, but most of us have SOME homescreen plugin. i think i remember that (c) also fails because "sense" seems to take over the responsibility to draw a wallpaper in its background.
i have been a loyal HTC "sense" user as long as i was using WM. i always had CHT installed as well (Cookie's Home Tab, a plugin to enhance HTC's "sense" homescreen by adding many more options). i believe CHT1.8.5 and later added a new style of wallpapers and the ability to skin" the "top" and "bottom" bars with corresponding strips of the wallpaper. this meant i could just feed it a 480x800 image and it would do the necessary clipping/cropping/skinning to achieve the effect of a seamless wallpaper, whether on the lockscreen or homescreen or when viewing the start menu. a side effect was that my "top" and "bottom" bars were always skinned, even with an application in the foreground, but such is life!
i hope that helps...
