Broken screen - app to view screen on PC - Desire Themes and Apps

Firstly, if you don't have insurance for your Desire I'd take it out now as I recently dropped mine on to my tiled kitchen floor (only from waist height) and the screen cracked (like a spiders web). I have only had it a month and have been very careful with it, this is the fist time it has even been banged - but no matter how careful you are I can't imagine being able to get through a 18/24 month contact without dropping it at least once, and I'm sure most cases will not protect the device 100%.
Anyway, my problem. The LCD display died within about an hour, so now I can't see anything, although the digitizer works. Is there an app available that will let me see and interact with my Android device via my PC, I had one installed on my Diamond and PC called Mobiler which was good. Secondly if there is, is there an easy way of installing the app without being able to see what you are doing lol.

Yeah try Android Screencast...
http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/
It runs pretty slow as it runs from the pc side. But it will let you see/record your android screen.

ephumuris, thanks. That looks perfect, I'll try it when I get home.

I did a video with it and it was really choppy but not sure if it was because of my live wallpaper or what. Plus my USB1.1 ports lol.
Does the job though and they are still working on it i think.
EDIT: Here is a very choppy video but it does actually capture so it works!

I want i want i want

forget about screen protectors, forget about 4" screens I want my entire table to be a screen!
Now thats what I call finger friendly!
http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/05/13/inside-microsofts-home-of-the-future-video
about 1min 30secs in !
the rest of the stuff on there I could live without, but that mobile/table interface looks great. And it would please the "tidyheads" at my work, as I'd have to keep my desk tidier!
wow! if only we could get this now, i would guess this sort of technology is many years away and will be very very expensive!
i dont think it is, the point of that house is to show what M$ think will be mainstream in a in 5 to 10 years.
I've been thinking about the mobile screen on table, and I think it's feasible now, but would need plugging in,rather than wirelessly.
using mymobiler and projector it's possible, but obviously the tech to capture where your finger is on screen is still a research project. But I could do pretty much the same thing here with some tweaking of our interactive whiteboard.
I might have a go one day..
i think thats just a bit table version of the microsoft surface that u can use at the mo to put ringtones etc on your phone through bluetooth.
she it putting the card on the table, a camera see the card (probally a barcode on card) then links to the cloud network and then sends the contact info to the phone (by bluetooth or wifi).

The tech is available. It works with laser.
Cool stuff, I've seen similar tech a few years back. They were playing warcraft 3 on a regular tabletop with touch registry. Looked pretty neat! I'm confident that what we see here is the near future. Our entire house will be controlled by voice. Gonna love it!

Initial Comments - Got Mine

Wow! It is fast....
I know others have said this but I must reinforce that. I have been running WM6.5 on my (old!) HD for a while and with the new manilla 2.5 (sense) UI it is clearly struggling a bit. I am sure that Dutty and co will improve on that but the HD2 is clearly much more able to handle this impressive UI.
Just got mine from T-Mobile UK so here is my initial feedback to those still drooling over the videos and pictures:
Appearance - Looks great, actually feels slimer than the HD - I know it is but you will see what I mean when you handle one. The curved back (like i-phone) makes it even slimmer at the edges than the 11mm measurement would make you think. The screen looks great - you can see the dots across the screen in certain light reflections (directly across the screen) but I have not noticed any at all in use - just with bright light at shallow angle across the screen. The screen is noticeably bigger than the HD, same brightness. The screen edges are also (as reported) closer to the edge which adds to the impact of screen real-estate on offer.
Only adverse comment on design is the sharpness of the edges to the camera lens surround - the lens edging is sharp enough to damage furniture so beware. HTC need to fix this one. It is minor on the scale of things but completely at odds with the rest of the device which oozes quality.
Branding. T-mobile have put their mark on the phone - nothing externally but the boot-up and shut down splash have T-mobile branding. There is a T-mobile (Web & Walk) spalsh screen that pops up when you start Opera (otherwise completely standard) and there is a T-Mobile IM tool that has failed to work so far.
Unboxing - my box (standard green HTC box just like the videos) had no pouch (leather case). I called T-Mobile and they will be sending one but according to their list they have no mention of either the pouch (that is what HTC call it) or the (miserly) 2Gb miro SD card. There is no (micro) CD like you see in some videos and apart from standard HTC stuff there is a T-Mobile folded sheet about something - was far too busy plying with my new toy to read the paperwork...
Software - all the usual stuff is there. Notes is in 'Outlook' and there is no Co-pilot software to test for 15 days (unless its on the micro SD card (not checked), just ordered and downloaded Co-pilot 8 because it looks great on the HD2.
Camera - the pictures are great and it takes photos immediately - it really has no lag at all on almost anything. The flash is actually quite bright.
Performance - did I say it was fast? Vista sync with PC was faultless, everything just happens immediately - this is also enhanced because apps are never actually closed. There is, as reported, no HTC 'X' task manager to close apps so they are just minimised. So when you start them up again in fact all you are doing is lttbbing back to the app that may already be open. The result is near instant response and when you select, for instnce, Google Map, it is not only already loaded but has maps present too (albeit the last maps). Opera is much faster than on the HD. IE is still very poor by comparison (BTW - Opera is called 'Web & Walk' in the start menu on this T-Mobile phone). The "My location" function just works - on GPRS, HSDPA, WiFi ann PC sync. Weather looks really neat!
Initial Software Loading and trials - just had to hard reset! I installed Monocube Safemode and could not then start-up the handset in other than safe mode!!! Not impressed - wonder if that is something to do with the capacitive screen.
Resco Explorer 2008 - great
Coreplayer - installed OK but noticed that 700Mb DivX film had audio sync problem. This film and this coreplayer version on HD seemd to have no problem.
more to come when I have re-loaded the software and re-synced - don't use Monocube Safe Mode.
I cannot rule out something else having cause the need to hard-reset but it only occured after my first power-up after installing the sotfware. I will report this to Monocude (who make it) and report back if I get anything.
Love the phone - very happy.
This is my first HTC and to be frank, I LOVE IT. Maybe because it replaced my SEX1?
Playing music is a delight, the speaker is amazing. Had to reduce the sound to 50% as it was too loud.
Picture taking, could be better, but as I'm used to SEX1, I can say its impressive.
Fast? Fast? It's lightning fast. This device changed my opinion towards WM. I was appalled, but now I'm extremely happy.
Only one annoying thing, when there is no data connection I get this pop up every time I turn on the phone, which is quite annoying.
Overall, I give it a 8/10. It could very easily be improved with ROM updates.
But why did they make sms notification so small?
I got mine yesterday. (Donated by a certain someone, you know who you are . )
Gotta say it truly is one of THE most amazing pieces of mobile tech I've seen in all my years as a technician. For the 1st time I can finally say winmo users finally have something that knocks the socks of the (in my opinion) now defunct iPhone and indeed any others available to date The speed of everything on this is just amazing, never did I think winmo could achieve this. Of course HTC did an amazing job covering over winmo you really never see it for anything.
I've been reading reviews online and in papers (ya I know, paper, im so old-fashioned sometimes lol ) and all the reviews say the HD2 still couldn't beat the iPhone etc so I was holding off buying it. But don't listen to the reviewers they're just too critical, this phone really is the biz, go get it.
Also, as this phone has no Hardware Keyboard it can be a bit tricky at first. I used to refuse to own a phone without a physical one but replacing the default HTC softKB with Fingerboard and everything is perfect Some minor tweaks and videos, battery etc are all working above and beyond any media smartphone I've used (and Ive even used the iphone for 5 weeks).
Anyways enough of my wild ravings about the phone. If anyone wants to know anything about the HD2 gimme a shout, happy to answer anyone
Just got mine today from.... Vodafone!!! Can you believe for once they've got it out with everyone else????
It's every bit as good as I'd hoped (not surprising as I'm stepping up from an early Tytn).
As tony wheeler found though, you can be too clever.... I originally had an XDA 2 with TomTom Nav 5, forced my Tytn to load it years ago and long before TomTom supported it (in fact I'm not sure they ever did). Tried to force it on the HD2 and all I got was a corrupt screen and it froze. Only needed a soft reset to get it going again, but a bottled out at that point.
I noticed that my favourite game (Bubblet) is missing (I'm a simple soul) and so far I cn't get .tsk skins to load properly, but hey - it's only day one.... plenty of time yet.
Update: sorted Bubble using hints and tips at the top of this forum, thanks TB!! Also, got my skin working by pasting it into the windows folder. It then appears in the advanced Today edit screen.

people have been complaining about the messaging application being laggy especially for contacts which have long message trail...is this correct? Are you experiencing it?

Eh, not really.
Ive already got 113 messages (+25 on my SIM) on mine and not noticed any slow down or lagg. Also have loads of emails and no slow down on the email tab either.
Mine arrives tomorrow via DHL, looking forward to it.
Moving back to WM from iPhone, been playing with iPhone for the last six months. I have always been a WM believer, but I always look and test the competition in the real world. Then I have a opinion based on first hand experience.
While the iPhone has many nice features, when it comes to business it isn't as flexible or useful as a WM device.
That's not to say WM doesn't have issues, it does. That's for another thread though.
iphone switch
I will be interested to hear your honest opinion of the HD2 compared with iphone.
The IP screen and nav functions are very fluid, but I think the HD2 is equal or better.
The HTC Shell makes a huge difference.
Without it I would have bought an iphone myself, and that is saying something!

Touchscreen problems (phone off local classifieds)

Recently upgraded from a Captivate. Picked up an Atrix for $240 ish off Kijiji, and after trying out in the car for a quick phone call seemed fine.
Until i got home, and realized that the screen is done.
No box just the phone and cable so not sure if i can send it in for warranty. Thus i figured i can either sell the phone for a loss and grab a much crappier phone. OR i can repair it and just use it.
So there's a certain panel at the bottom that doesn't seem to be too reactive, and doesn't register touch from time to time, as well as towards the top corners of the screen any pressure would result in random touches being registered towards the bottom of the screen - seen using touchtest app off the market today to pinpoint my touch problems.
Video illustrates my problems - sorry about quality - video taken using a piece of .... blackberry.
I figure the digitizer is seated wrong wondering if a seating is needed or a whole new one? Or if it's a different problem all together.
I figured it's more viable i just repair it, as the phone is quite fast if it weren't for the stupid screen I'd love it (also lack of case and screen protector is annoying - but I already ordered them!) .
Any advice would be great!

Help troubleshooting Atrix

As of yesterday I get no display on my screen. This happened after I dropped my phone - it caught on my headphone cable and didn't actually hit the floor but it must have still received a pretty hard jerk.
I can confirm that the phone is 100% fully functional in all other respects - other than the screen. If I plug it into my lapdock, I get a proper display on the lapdock and everything works perfectly.
The screen is also "on" as the backlight is on but there's just nothing displaying on the screen. The screen (or body for that matter) is also not cracked anywhere nor is there water damage on the phone. The touch also works just fine as I found out when it woke me up in the morning and I spent a good 15 minutes poking and prodding random parts of the screen to disable the alarm.
Anyways, I've already acquired an LG Nitro HD which is an okay phone but its not an Atrix. I really love my Atrix and even buying a new Atrix just wouldn't be the same.
Any suggestions/ideas on possible fixes? I'm up for opening the phone or purchasing parts - I even have the right sized screw drivers. I just don't want to open it up with no plan or idea of what I should be tampering with or replacing.

[Q] Webcam not working

I have a dell inspiron 15r 5221 brand spanking new and the web cam quit working when ever i launch the camera app or app related to using the webcam either it says connect camera or like in skype nothing is there the is no web cam option in devicemanager and i think i need the drivers for it but cant find them anywhere dell said they were going to send someone out to fix it should i wait or try and fix it what will they do to fix it will they take apart my whole laptop dont want them to scratch it or anything like that
Jesus, punctuation man. Impossible to read that post easily.
it should appear in device manager without a driver (just with an error logo signifying no driver). Try running windows update, then installing the driver manually. You should have recieved a driver CD with your laptop and dell also have them available on support pages for their laptops.
Otherwise it may be a hardware fault. Vendor should exchange the laptop for a new one or dell may offer to open it up and fix it. They know what they are doing and shouldn't scratch it, but in my experience dell build quality is poor and scratches will be the least of your problems when the casing is falling apart (my inspiron 1525 is held together with gaffa tape).
how do i run windows update
found it
You open the charms bar. Click settings, change PC settings, windows update is near the bottom.
Now that does remind me, I have 640mb of updates to do....
Or just hit Start/WinKey and type "update" then look under Settings (the need for that last step piusses me off).
tried the update nothing happened i guess ill just wait for the dell technician to replace the webcam hope they know what there doing and don't damage it its brand spankin new
They won't damage it, its their job.
Although a scuff or 2 will eventually be the least of your concerns. 2 new motherboards, new power cable, new hard drive, hinge falling apart and a dead fan. That is my inspiron. I know 3 other inspiron owners who have also had premature hard drive failure, replacement motherboards, optical drive failure and dead displays. I am never buying a dell laptop again.
I hope that doesnt happen mines the 2013 version and i dont think it will happen! what inspiron are you using
Mine and grans are both 2008 (back when they called it the 1525). 1 friend reckons his is about 2010 (just asked on steam chat), other reckons 2011.
First motherboard failure was covered under warranty. Second was outside warranty, June 2010, repair label is still stuck to the bottom of the charger (one on laptop burnt off, towards end of lifespan I had horrific heat issues).
The fan I attribute to old age.
The hard disk died after 18 months.
The casing, damn it freaked badly. The plastic around the hinges started to show strain marks about the same time that the hard drive failed. Now its completely snapped off, the casing along the top of the screen doesn't clip together. The front edge is loose and the exposed metal on the hinge itself is visibly bent out of alignment.
5 years old. But most of the issues bar the fan happened in the second year.
Its been put to rest now. The fan only stopped working a month ago and without it I can only just make it to the login prompt before the CPU temp rises enough to trigger the auto cutoff.
Even when the fan was working, for the last 3 years I have had issues with the idle temp being over 60 celcius, i could play minecraft on tiny render for half an hour before the temp hit 85 and forced the laptop to shut down. Cooling mats didn't seem to help it much. Yes the bents were clean from dust, i have no idea why it was so hot.
My family has a 2008 and its been droped like five time never over heats and isnt falling apart it runs fine that why igot the inspiron
