8525 Won't charge with PC T300 until Soft-Reset - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I recently bought a new charger, HTC PC T300 for my 8525, the problem is that it stops charging as soon as i unplug the charger and plug it back in the phone. until and unless i soft-reset my device it won't start charging again. it charges continuously when my device is turned off. i checked my charger on another 8525 and it gives the same problem. the charger is fine. it gives 5V 1A.
i am using Schaps 4.31 Lite.
please help.....

Are you talking about a car charger? Like this one;?
http://www.4-mobiles-car-chargers.co.uk/sony-ericsson/t300/car-chargers/usb-car-charger-plug-head
If so it's not an official HTC charger and there is a known issue with some car chargers that require a soft reset agter the initial plug in. I am not aware of a workaround other than doing a soft reset. Tere are threads on these boards about this problem - but not an easy solution that I remember.

Problem with my AC charger

Very strange problem , can not charge my Atom with the AC charger, the stupid charger charges my Imate JAMin, and JAMin charger wont charge my Atom,
The funny thing is it charges fine through pc usb
any ideas.
i have exactly the same problem, did u end up figuring it out?? its driving me nuts
I had this issue also, this time with a ghetto charger (that comes with a port for plugging in your USB cables). The ghetto charger works on my Mini, but the Atom stops after 5 seconds. Only the charger that came with the Atom works on it.
Unfortunately, there's no solution for this. Quanta apparently had this safety-locked just like Motorola did their RAZR series.
found out that motorola v3 razor charger could actually charge your atom, thx for your help
LOL... I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT. THE EXACT SAME CHARGER LOCK MECHANISM. >_>
Really? Does it charge as fast as the original charger? Can the original charger be used on a MotoRAZR? This is a very nice hack, tho not quite as useful as some might hope. <_<
im not sure if it would work the other way around, i cant see why not.
charging speed is about the same, but don't quote me on that one
cheers
to cause a short circuit on the plug pins, haha,it will be ok
hi all,
i am encountering another problem... opposite from wats happening to u all. my usb is not charging my atom exec when the battery is 35% or lower...
does anyone encounter the same problem?
I have a tytn and had the same problem, can charge and sync thru usb but no luck with the ac-charger. Thou yesterday i noticed if i leave it on in the ac-charger long enough it actually starts charging. Weird but i've tried and it really worked the cpl of times i tried. It takes about a minute or two before the led turn orange.
Same problem here. It charges on USB but not on my original AC charger. Has anyone already found the reason for this?
We have generic and "öther brand" branded chargers here in the Philippines. I've experienced the same problems both with the AC and Car Chargers here until I used a voltage regulator for the AC charger and a motorola car charger. Those that worked with my xda2 doesn't work with my atom. My advise to those with the same problem is to either buy a motorola AC or Car Charger whichever you need or use a voltage regulator in tandem with your original AC charger. If your PC USB doesn't charge while syncing with your PC, format your PC. Chances are, it's too cluttered already.
Hope this helps
how come it says in the manual that while charging the atom, it will display an amber/orange light?mine is displaying a red light?and i am encountering the same problem when charging. it charges for 5seconds and it will stop. the battery indicator displays a full bar.but it is not actually charged.can someone post the specification of the original charger that came with the package?i just bought a new charger here in singapore since i left my charger in the philippines.and the original charger that i got is for atom stealth. will it be okay?

USB charging

My new M3100 is great, apart from one thing. I seem unable to charge it using any of the three in-car adapters I have that worked a treat with my Prophet.
Anyone know if this is an issue, or just specific to my M3100 (which appears to not be charging properly even when on USB or mains adapter)?
Cheers,
Sam
i have tried 2 different USB car chargers and neither have worked. Last one was 1A but still no joy.
Did you drain up the batt? I mean, was it full discharged when you attemped to recharge it? I have the same problem, no way to recharge it, at least the orange light doesn't show up.
If i try it at home, no prob. But what with a usb? no way
There are issues with some car charger USB connections.
I do not suffer this problem because I find it very useful to have an "inverter" permanently in the car. For those that have not seen these, it is a device that converts the battery voltage to mains supply voltage. This allows you to plug in as if you were at home. Handy for your hermes, laptop, phone etc etc without the hassle of special in car setups - just plug in with your normal mains plug. Most of these devices just plug into your cigarette lighter socket, although I have mine permanently wired in - so I also have the socket still available.
here is a UK example but I imagine they are available for all countries:

There is a known issue on car charging where the device will only charge when switched off. If this is your problem see the wiki here or my link below.

I've had that problem too. Strangely enough, restarting my 8525 gets the car charger to start working
try powering off your unit, it will get the orange light. Turn it back on after 5 mins and the charging will hold. not sure why.
I was having the same problem as mentioned above with a usb car charger that came with my GPS, however I just received my car charger from HTC FINALLY! With the HTC car charger and home charger, I have no issues charging the Hermes where I sometimes run into problems with say a generic motorola or igo power adapter - these sometimes require me to restart my device before charging begins.
By the way, I am going on a trip where I'll be away from power for 4 days ... can anyone recommed a portable cell phone charger that runs either off of AA batteries or solar power?
I think there is another thread about this somewhere, but I don't have time to look it up. I've had this same problem with several chargers that worked fine on my Cingular 8125 (HTC Wizard). History is that there is a firmware issue on the TyTN that checks for a data pin in the USB interface coming from the charger, and if it doesn't have the right voltage on it, the phone doesn't charge. When you totally power down the device (holding down power button for a while and then hitting yes to the power down question), then the charger works. It's when the device is in standby that it doesn't work right, because the firmware checks for the pin to be correct, doesn't find it, and disables the charging circuitry.

USB Power Problem - Please Help!

When the PDA part of the phone is turned on and I plug the unit into the AC wall charger or car charger the phone will not always go into charge / full power mode (i.e. the charge light does not come on, the screen does not go to max brightness as it has been defined in the settings, and the bettery icon at the bottom of the sceen does not show that the unit is on AC/external power). I have tried this on the OEM charger and several other mini-USB chargers - one charger will work one time but will not work later that same day. The only way to ensure a charger will work while I am using the PDA is to soft rest the unit right before I plug it in to the AC or car charger.
Only the PC/ActiveSync USB cables charge any time (PDA on or off) when plugged in to a PC.
Is this a hardware problem or a software problem? Please HELP!!!

Have not personally come across this, though I did once get the fairly common red light when Hermes knows the chargers there but refuses to charge.
Whether this is software or hardware is not straightforward. At first you would tend towards a hardware issue if the PC USB link always charges. Suggesting a fault in the contacts of the charger devices.
However an increasing number of phones generally have circuitry to detect their own chargers. Notably many of the Motorola phones that actually pop up a note saying unauthorised charger. I am not aware that Hermes has this function and does not have any message pop up. The surprise here is that the OEM charger is similarly flaky. However if a software reset without moving connections around does sound more software than hardware and possibly related to a loaded application?

USB Charging...or not!

I have tried charging my XDA Trion (Hermes) via a USB 12 car adapter. There appears to be charge to the cable, but the XDA is not charging.
Th ebattery level was low, but I charge dit up to over 40% and it still didn't kick in.
Any ideas ?
TIA, Davebo.

There is an issue re. in car charging when the device only charges when off. See the link in my signature and find the section on charging problems. May or may not be relevant to your case. Some leads have a slightly different configuration regarding earthing which can cause problems.

Mike,
Thanks for the reply. I think it is how the pins are set up. Apparently mains chargers uses different pins to synch cables.
In the end I had to boot up my laptop and charge the handset off the USB (same cable!) from that.
I have ordered a car cradle, which I will need anyway. Hopefully, that will have the correct pins. (Or it will be going back!).
Cheers, DBo.

matey i bought a car charger from ebay only a few quid- an it charges the device while the device is on-
if you still need another charger I can try searching for the one i got from ebay? let me know.
Ta
N2h,
Ta very much, I already have one on order though now.
I went for one from the same place I got my Wizard one from (PDAMods). It was about £25 + P&P. The upside is it will fit the limpet-like screen mount I have. (The standard ones are typically rubbish IMHO).
Thanks anyway, DBo.
weird
I have found that it doesn't charge oif it is 'on' and that I have to do a soft reset before it will work whenever I change between plug and car. It drives me mad.
Faria's WM6 ROM had a fix in it for this - the HTC original ROMs do some sort of checking for a particular pin to be grounded, and if it isn't, it doesn't allow a charge. But if you turn the phone completely off, or soft reset, it works for a while until you disconnect or put the phone in standby. Nobody knows what Faria did to fix this, but I can verify that suddenly my old car charger worked. Unfortunately other issues in Faria's ROM made me move on a to a more stable software version.

HTC TyTN does not charge anymore.... Need Help

Hi Guys
I have a problem with my TyTN at the moment.
My device is not charging.
Yesterday i put it in my Docking Station and wait a little time.
But Now the Tynt isnt charged.
I think ist a Problem with my TyTN Hardware.
I have all Power Supplys used they i have, but it doesent work.
Can you help me?
Its this a problem with the accu or a fuse on the circuit ?
Sorry for my broken english i hope you understand me.
Regards Patrik Laube
Hello,
first of all, try to soft reset the device.
If it fails, hard reset it.
If it doesn't work, go the service center.
Good luck
The above advice is fine. But you did not say if any of the LEDs are lit.
Do you get the red NO CHARGE LED?
Does your phone operate normally except for not charging?
Mike
Hello
My Phone is working fine but i cant charge it with the original HTC adapter.
I must load the accu with a special loader.
USB and Charge dont work....
And i have no warranty I cant send it to my operator.
When i plug in the USB Cable it doesent make everthing.
I think it was a to high voltage on the USB or the USB Ground ( - ) had a electrical Power for a litte moment.
Have you an idea?
Thanks for yur help.
Regards Patrik
I had a similar problem, which was sorted by a new rom, but I ascertained it was software problem when I realised it charged when powered off.

hi,
try this: when your device is connected via usb, tab on the battery icon in the taskbar on you device, go to the register "advanced" and check/uncheck "When Device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the pc"
thats it

I'm having an issue along these lines, also.
My phone has been working fine untill the other night when I tried to charge it via the wall electrical outlet. It will not charge at all, the battery has been drained to nothing and I can't turn it on. The yellowish light doesn't turn on when I plug it in like it used to.
I don't know if this is a battery issue or an issue with the USB connection inside of the phone. On a side note, when it did have power and I tried to connect it to the USB via the PC; it didn't work. The phone was on, but the computer didn't even notice the phone was plugged in. That leads me to believe it would be a connection issue; but I'm not quite sure.
If anyone has anything they can add to this I would appreciate it, thank you.
P.S. Bringing it to a service center is a bit out of the question in the mean time seeing as it was bought on eBay and funds are limited for the time-being.

Hello, I cannot find the "When Device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the pc" in my device. My Rom is WM6.1 CE OS 5.2.20273 cooked by dvha79_ddt.
My HTC TyTN has the sample problem, but i can use the USB to charge normally. It cannot work using my AC adapter Only when the device is open...
About your Battery Issue.
I'll tell you exactly why ur phone isnt charging anymore... If you have been charging it alot on the USB or pretty much any!! charging on the USB u have killed ur battery, never charge your phone on the USB it kinda sucks they should make these phones able to be Sync'd thru USB without a battery cause these batteries should not be powered thru the USB over Time... from syncing to your pc will kill these batteries i have noticed that when u sync this Tytn Ithru USB and the device is at say 70% it charges up to 100% pretty fast i would recommand to you and anyone who reads this dont sync your TYTN or any HTCC phone for to long to the USB Cause it will Trash your batteries Life down the road... Hope this was HELPFUL.
Cheers

^I'm having the same problem with my herm200. I did the soft reset, hard reset changed ROMs but still the same problem. I don't think it's the usb connector because if it is it wouldn't have been able to charge the phone even if it's turned off. Before I'm able to charge it turned on but it would take a few minutes before the orange led turns on, but when I use the phone or if I receive a text the orange led would turn off it's like the charger disconnects but after a few minutes it would go back again. Now it just wouldn't charge turned on, sometimes it gets worse where it just wouldn't charge on or off.
Now I'm already planning to buy an external battery charger.

Are you using an official 1000mA charger? (Not a 500mA one) 500mA ones work, but they are under-powered and can cause strange behaviour, like not charging whilst turned on or whilst on a call. Similar problems can be found with car-chargers that will not charge until the device is soft reset.
Mike
^no it's not the official charger, I have this usb wall charger called Power Juice (phone and mp3 charger).
Input Voltage: AC100-240V
Output Voltage: 5V
Output Current:1000mAh
Do you think it's because I'm not using the original charger?
fixed my charging problems
The boyfriend told me to try a new cable for my charger so he bought me a 5pin usb cable, tried it at home and it worked! I still need to turn off the screen sometimes but that's ok at least I don't have to turn off the phone anymore. Now my battery charges less than 3 hours.
Hold both SoftKeys and Then press the Power button
Or you can also hold both softkeys and then put your stylus into the reset hole.
answer why it does not charge through the usb
Sorry for the very very late response. Under electrical legislation all hand held electrical devices must be insulated and fused. Some of the chargers that you can purchase are sealed without fuse which indicates that the phone has a fuse contained within its circuitry (or there may be 2 fuses one in each device) .
The problem you have encountered is that you have connected your phone to a computer or mains supply to charge. There has been a surge in the electrical supply either on connection or by un-connecting from these supplies (e.g. connect to the computer as it is booting would see a 65w signal through the USB) and this more often than not blows the fuse which sits on the PCB (printed circuit board) just after the usb connection internally to the phone.
you can either have the fuse fixed for 20/25 gbp or you can purchase a new circuit board or you can use an external charger for the battery. As it is only the power input point that is faulty.
hope this helps
Since we are at this non-charging & battery issue, I would like to ask this question on the D838pro. My battery won't charge even after 24 hours of charging. The red LED blinks thru the whole process. The LED did not turn on to orange or green. It is the battery problem because my spare battery works well. I would like to know what is wrong with the battery as I am willing to strip down the battery. Could it be the battery circuit or wiring that had fired?

Never tried stripping down a battery, some things... well, just don't seem worth it. However as a learning exercise it might be interesting. Without lots of testing on a good battery with a multimeter then I have no clue what the readings should be between all the contacts. (Now there's a little job for you) It is as likely the internal structure of the battery is screwed as it is to be a wiring problem.
If you solve it you can certainly report back here
Mike
