SU Force closes - Droid Eris Android Development

Whenever something requests for SU (tether, eris app fix, etc) it always force closes. Never pops up the allow or deny buttons like it did the one time when I first started my phone. I'm running Aloysius v9. Any suggestions?

usb debugging on?

No. Should it be?
Edit: i turned it on and it worked thanks jcase! no one ever told me it had to be on. You rule

Interesting discovery after removing certain apps. (SU, swapper, speed, download app)

Hey all, just reporting a discovery I found. Last night I was annoyed my G1 was getting sluggish, not only that but it gave me that "Download unsuccessful" issue which most people do a wipe to fix that. Well What I did to get my market working again is I deleted the cache from the browser, (To free up internal space) but I think the key element that did it was deleting the cache from the "Download Manager" Which seemed to reset things back in motion. =)
Next up, I always hated that Toggle Settings would time out when the G1 booted.. I never really use it anyways. Maybe it doesnt like Power manager with it. Anyways I removed that, vola speed increase! Next one, I got TasKiller app to stop the stupid apps Tmobile has. The Hot spot one, the mobile sync and the my account. (It loads them on the G1 start auto like. zzz)
Now where it gets interesting is, I goto reboot my G1 and right after I loaded it, I went straight to swapper and hit on. Now for some reason along the way. It popped up with a SU Request. Now swapper was working before, but it always failed on the "Turn off Partition" stage, but didnt phase the end. Now it OKs them all. Set CPU also popped up with a request. These were apps I know were working with root, but somehow, based off what I just saw, it looks like it was a limited root access, odd as it sounds. Cause now its 100% functional and since then, my G1 has been fast. (Atm using proxoid to connect to ubuntu for tethering via usb heh)
So my thoughts? Could it be certain apps conflict with the startup or root process of the G1, making them timeout or so? I know shopsavvy and anetshare dont get along. Also I would say Tmobile apps suck.. visual voicemail keeps crashing on me, once I got rid of that I felt better.
also did a odex pass on my sd card to try that out. I havent rebooted my G1 yet to see if swapper now auto starts where before it didnt. But thats due to me using the g1 as a modem atm. =D
Anyways just a report for anyone who finds it useful. =)

Google Lock Screen

Anyone else have issues with drawing a pattern to unlock your phone? over half the time, when I try to draw the pattern, it will only pick up half of what I draw. If you keep trying it will keep doing the same thing. Only fix is to shut the screen off and then turn it back on again and then it will work. Anyone else experience this "bug?"
I'd be willing to donate if someone could fix this. It's annoying as hell.
EDIT: I've experienced this on completely stock DI18, EB13, EC05. I'm about to the point where I don't even want to use it anymore but I would like to have some security feature to lock it. I'm currently on the stock deodexed NOCIQ ROM with DStars clean kernel.
Never had that problem but I hate that unlock screen. PITA to unlock while walking.

I had a similar problem for a while, except that it happened whether the phone was locked or not. Took it in and sprint said that touch sensor was defective, replaced the screen and it was good as new!

I had a similar problem, but found a way around it. I removed my pattern and downloaded an application called "AL II" by 'SmartDog Studio'. It's a security application that basically tricks any app you want into believing it's force closing, and in order to get it to work, you have to perform something. It's kind of hard to explain it in words, but i'll try my best. I downloaded the application, and opened it. Once opened, I chose 'Messaging' for the sake of this explanation. So I selected messaging and hit "protect". Once it says the application is protected, you just hit the menu button and change the settings to how you want. I personally chose "Rotate motion" for my selected unlock method. Basically what happens at this point is if someone picks up your phone and tries to read your messages, the application will force close (and will continue to do this forever until you perform the selected unlock method). With the "Rotate motion", you just allow the force close dialog box to pop up, then you just have to rotate your phone to have your screen facing down, then rotate it right side up again, and the force close dialog box disappears and you're back in business. There's other options you can choose such as, when the force close dialog box pops up, instead of selected "force close" you can tap on the text body of the pop up either 2 or 5 times (whichever you chose for it) and it will unlock your phone that way too. Basically what you're doing is tricking whoever picks your phone up into thinking your phone is a complete piece of garbage and they'll put it right back down because nothing will work for them. I hope that wasn't too confusing. If you wanna know more about it, just shoot me a PM and i'll be glad to explain it in more detail.
Zeke.

SMS Force Close

so i am trying to fix this for a friend. her stock sms app force closes every time you open it. i have cleared the cache and data. no different. i have read that factory resets may fix the problem but they dont give what is causing the problem. which is not a valid argument to factory reset if they are just guessing. its completely stock. no root. any help would be awesome.
I've been having it happen too. Just hold down the power button and selecting restart works. Shutting off the phone once a day is good too

restarting the phone does not work in this case. i have tried a few times.
my wife's MT4G has started to show similar symptoms recently. random force closes, and she will have to reboot to get it to work, but once she reboots all of her messages are gone and smsbackup is not backing it up. Her phone is completely stock no root and never has been. (she won't let me touch it ) lol

My wife is the same way and her phone was buggy too...she got the update a week or two ago and so far so good....
the best thing to do is a factory data reset,as to why its force closing, it could be a simple bug or something went wrong on installing android on the phone. if it continues to keep happening go to t mobile an have them replace it,under warranty. the other option is to root an flash the new 2.3 update for the phone.

Market failing to install apps?

I'm seeing a fairly consistent problem where I click to install an App, and it gets hung in "Waiting to install". Eventually it just stops trying.
Everything else on the pad works great. I've had no slowness issues, nothing at all wrong with the pad -- just randomly applications don't install. I've installed installing things from the web market because they always work there.
Yeah, that happens to me too. Its annoying to say the least.
Clearing the Market cache usually fixes it for me, at least for a while.
it does happen sometimes, just try a few times and it will eventually install..
Same here, sux yo
Yeah happens to me all the time. Super lame. I just try multiple times.
Ditto. Very annoying. I had hoped 3.1 would have fixed this, but it didn't.
same here .. sometimes i would get connection failure and to 'retry' or 'cancel'
i would turn off wifi and back on and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. rebooting will make it work again but then the issue would occur at times. not all the time though.
or i would disconnct from my wifi and turn on wifi tethering on my phone and have it connect to their and market would load fine again. =/
happens to me too. I usually just back out to the previous screen and try to install it again.
I'm having the same problem. And sometimes pressing a button causes a switch to the recent app (like alt+tab on windows).
Make sure that Google Talk is running in the background and you are logged in. For some reason the Market and Talk are related and killing Talk will cause the Market to hang.
Happens to me too, and trying to install multiple times (while it usually works eventually) will also frequently result in the app not showing in Market's "My Apps" section once installed, or showing but not being able to be uninstalled from Market.
The workaround I've found that so far works 100% of the time is to power the tablet off completely when an app hangs up installing, then restart the tablet and enter market again. The app will then immediately and quickly install without issues.

yea that usually works for me too but kinda annoying to have to keep rebooting just to get the market working. seems like the market will lose connection if the tablet is idle for a certain amount of time even though i have the wifi disconnect policy set to never. and even though market will have connection issue, i can browse the internet and everything perfectly fine when leaving hte tablet idle. hope this gets fix in 3.2!

Screen won't turn off after new install

Just updated to a 4.4 rom on my i337, and whenever I reboot my phone, the screen won't turn off.
It would take hours before something happens that finally overloads it and forces a force close on my apps and then its back to working normal.
The only thing I noticed is that when it does happen, some apps show up in the superuser toast and start working again. Superuser wasn't even on the whole time.

Does not turn off when:
-Power button is pressed
-timeout time (no matter how long the time out is set for)
This only happens after a reboot, and will last for either an hour or a few hours.
But, if and when it finally does start working, it happens after some weird force close of one of the apps.
Currently, it is working fine after a few reboots and uninstalling Dynamic Notifications. It seems to me that when I disabled Dynamic Notifications, the app would still act as the lock screen. I had to actually remove it completely and so far after a few reboots it hasn't reoccurred.
