It is up to HTC if they will upgrade or not (buttons on the bottom of phone is not compatible to what microsoft specified), not T-mobile to decide about the OS upgrade.
She told that we will receive 2 minor update before windows7

Hate to break it too you but some random CS rep telling you this doesn't make it true. Microsoft, who makes the software, says the HD2 will not get WP7 officially. It doesn't have the right hardware keys, so if you want WP7 then get the new phone that is released at the end of the year with WP7 on it.
remember that they say g1 won't get any software upgrade and it did get the update

That was purely a software issue, they said the OS was to big to fit on the phone. They shrunk it enough to fit on the phone. For WP7 to officially work on the HD2 they would have to change hardware keys. Big difference.
software update coming out next for the hd2 she told me
We'll see what Microsoft has to say about this..
Since, you know, the HD2 is missing 7GB of internal storage, a couple of hardware buttons, and has a microSD card slot it's not supposed to have.

Yes there is going to be software updates for the phone, thats a given but software updates don't mean WP7. Same thing happened with Android, every time there was an update everyone thought it was Cupcake when it fixed a minor bug.
We have to face the facts that the HD2 was 6.5's last great moment before going out.
she specifically told me that their is going to be two minor update before the big update which is windows7

Point being: while we would love to believe any or all of that was true, and some of it may very well be, we'll need it from a more, um, "solid" source
Still, thanks for passing on what you heard...just know that we'll be taking it with a huge (and I say that as a Texan) grain of salt, and hope that you do the same
Listen I work for T-mobile and I will be first to say most of our CS reps know as much about cell phones as a Trilobite. In fact I bet a Trilobite would know more. The CS rep knows jack about what the phone is getting. I deal with this all the time. Some guy comes in "Hey your customer service said you were getting the iphone with WP7 and Android dual booting, I would like to buy it now." Then they get mad when I laugh at them.

That would be too good to be true. Basically it sounds like the rep was saying two updates will be needed to squeeze winphone7 onto the HD2... they probably figured they should do it before a dev does it, lol.
that was a funny one
thank you for letting me know that XDA
I hope that she right not being drunk
I think she just didn't know what she was talking about. There were people saying that t-mobile reps told them that there is android available for the HD2, also. T-mobile reps don't know much about these phones. She probably heard some rumor or hearsay, or misunderstood something. I can pretty much guarantee that there will not be an official WinPhone7 upgrade.

I just got off the phone with a T-mobile PDA Tech Rep. He said there will be an official update in the next few days.
He says the engineers have listened to their customers about addressing the issue of available storage / ram on the Wing. This new update should run a bit faster, and give you more storage space as well as program memory.
The rep said that when they receive the word that there will be an upcoming update, the update will be uploaded to the t-mobile support site within days. My guess is to check back on wednesday the 9th.
good
good work.
but have you upload incoming update here on xda forum because i have not an account on t-mobile website.

Still nothing. I'm getting a little disappointed. I'm starting to believe that the rep was either misinformed, or blowing smoke. weak.
It's good news either way, but I doubt that it would actually be better than the cooked ROMs we see here.
Is this something I would be able to get OTA? When I bought my Wing from my buddy, he didn't have the disc with the drivers so I can't hook it up via USB.
Can I get the files from the disc online anywhere to get it to work?

After having gotten ecxcited myself, I did a little checking. T-Mobile does not officialy admit any upgrades (or anything new at all) planed or otherwise for the Wing. I am a sales rep. for T-Mobile and I carry the wing day in and day out. Have done tons of calling to our tech reps and no one knows anything about an update or upgrade. sad to say but I fear we may be out of luck. T-Mobile is going to a UTMA network and the Wing will probably fall to the wayside as an "incompatible" phone. a sad fate for such a great device. I am hoping some one out there is going to prove me wrong. Please prove me wrong!
I was talking to a sprint rep while i was upgrading my titan rom to 3.56 ( at the store my comp didnt work) and i brought up a conversation of the diamond and i say the touch diamond pro and he goes "Sprint isnt getting the touch diamond howd you get that" and then he bought up some stuff how its going to be like the touch dual (not the phone but the way sprint didnt get it)... so i guess well have to wait and see. The sprint rep did know what he was talking about he was very helpful
I really don't think this really warranted a double post.
I talked to a sprint rep a couple days back and she told me that we should expect to start seeing them early next month, but 3rd party retailers(radio shack, bestbuy, etc) will get them first, then sprint will get them sometime afterwards. This makes sense to me as I know how many of us have a Titan and a warranty, so they want to get people to get impatient and buy them outright rather than "oops my phone broke" after the mogul goes EOL.
One way to maintain sanity is to NEVER ask any cell provider's store or phone rep about upcoming devices. They either don't know and will lie, don't know and will guess, don't know and will pass along any rumor that came their way (Barb is doing who???) or will answer truthfully with a "don't know".

I have just got off the phone with a very nice gentlemen from HTC customer services.
He informed me that Vodafone are at current flatly refusing to support the HTC HD2 handset. They have NO plans to release a firmware update for the HD2.
He has had this confirmed by his management team as he gets a number of calls on a daily basis regarding the issue.
I opened a thread on the Vodafone forums informing their customers and am doing the same here on XDA: http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=49175
Feel free to comment in either thread.

The issue lies with warranty and insurance! Quite a large issue if you are a Vodafone customer.
It shouldnt matter whether or not they are actually stocking the device any longer. After having the HD2 on their books for only two months and it being a new device to market, they must continue to support any firmware updates/fixes for the duration of the contracts of all their customers that have an HD2. This is surely a given?!
If they supply you with hardware that is necessary to use the services they also provide to you then it must be legally binding that they support any fixes (ie firmware updates) for the hardware supplied to ensure that it functions as the manufacturer intended.

How? You can always revert to the 'original version' and if device is so badly broken that you can't revert, HTC staff wouldn't be able to check ROM version as well.
Besides, if there is some clear hardware problem with your device (like broken button or speaker, screen not responding etc) I don't think HTC service is going to complain about ROM version, this would be just idiotic.. Has anyone any experience with HTC service and non-official ROMS? Frankly I don't think HTC cares, software modding is the whole point of getting HTC device in the first place for many, many people. I am also sure they are aware that many operators provide atrocious support for new ROMs and customers don't have any options.

Vodafone has nothing do to with this, it is HTC who services/fixes these devices. Vodafone may say many things, but ultimately phone goes to HTC service for repair and this whole 'custom ROM voids warranty' babbling is completely up to them.
Again - it would be just idiotic if HTC refused to fix obvious hardware problem because of 'custom ROM'.
It is like getting PC from DELL with Win XP preinstalled, then installing Linux on it and when i.e motherboard of disk fails, claiming warranty from Dell - nothing wrong with it.

When you take out a contract with Vodafone they supply you with a phone that has a vodafone ROM on it. That's basically a stock ROM with some changes, either cosmetic, programmatic, or both. They are then perfectly within their rights to tell you that you will void the warrantly if you modify that ROM or replace it with someone else's. It's like getting a car under warranty and expecting to get it fixed for free, even though you've put a new engine in it.
It has NOTHING to do with HTC. This is part of your agreement with Vodafone.

Correct, one size does not fit all. All opperators customise the ROM to suit their needs. Installing a generic ROM from HTC on Vodafone or any other operator for that matter would not only void the warranty but would cause all manner of problems for the support department of each operator. Can you imagine how many customers would brick their device trying to upgrade? Even the most simple of instructions are not often followed correctly.

Was just at the store aaking about exchanging my SGS, and the rep told me they were not allowed to exchange phones for lack of recovery anymore, since all curent models do it.

She semed to know what she was talking about and said this came from the Samsung rep, so I think it is legit

With the rate that Samsung's dragging its feet for fixing other issues with the galaxy s line, I'm glad I just got a straight refund for mine last week. Waited quite a long time for the SGS to be available in Canada, but now I'm kind of wondering if I should wait longer for HTC's next super phone.
Think they really need to crank up their bug fix team. Many people got burnt by them not updating older phones, but with the number of sales they have with the S, it really could hurt their mobile sales for years to come if they let things slide.
Raise the BS flag!
i'll only move back to HTC if they include SAMOLED

Yes, the phone's been out for 1 week here in Canada, but in other parts of the world, it's been out for 2 months. And still no solid fix for the GPS. Go check out the GPS thread @ the phandoid forums to see how many times a phantom update was supposed to fix that issue.
I really did love my S, but I can live without a smart phone under all the issues are worked out. I'm a pessimist by nature, but I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised with all kinds of fixes and an on schedule froyo release.
PS, might want to look at the behold II, you know the phone that they said it would be upgraded to 2.x in their promotional video, then said 1.6 is as far as they were going to go just as the S was announced? heheh
Hmm that's weird.
I just exchanged mine this afternoon at Yonge and Dundas in Toronto and I wasn't even asked any questions. The manager said they were aware of the problem and that the new batch was working so it was exchanged on the spot. No mention of waiting for updates...

To me, this just further confirms that a fix is coming. If it is fixed in new batches, then an updated SPL will be out shortly, or shipped with Froyo. It would not make sense to not ship it because it would just end up to more warranty returns due to bricked upgrades.
cool, hope they fix this soon!
just for the record, it's not just the Bell model
i9000 from other countries have having the same problem, and it's also not all the units, just some units
seems like they have some one sleeping in Samsung's QA department.
otherwise there is no explanation why some units of the same batch are fine, yet some units are missing the 3 buttons modes

Total meaningless BS.
Literally no one in the first two tiers of tech support is going to have the slightest idea. It will be released when ready. Target are movable, they are not going to blow a few million bucks in needless support issues if it isn't ready on Dec 5, so the support person you spoke to was just completely making it it up. There was also clearly never a target of the 11th.
On of our more respected Sprint people here has said the target has been NOv 29th for a while and that is the only credible thing that has surfaced, and is incidentally, exactly in line with the only thing Sprint and Samsung have ever said publicly, which is their placing the release for Epic at between the end of November and the end of December.

And also I spoke to a rep as well. And he was giving me info he read off of Android Central so he's basically in the dark as much as we are. Phones being released is one thing because Stores get the info ahead of time for stock purposes. Froyo is something different.
And [email protected] the Bret Favre comment. I almost lost my drink!
I think these "I talked to a sprint rep who knows when it's coming out" Is the equivalent to "I played for my high school basketball team so I know what it's like to be in the NBA. You really have no insight on what's really happening
I've heard the 29th.. oh and I work for sprint but hope its true.

I'm pretty sure the few million bucks of support doesn't bother them one bit. As we've seen with the GPS issues, they'll just ignore it. No cost at all to them.
Some Sprint reps know way more than others about current and upcoming products. However, keep in mind that it's not their job to keep you up to date on release dates for Froyo, and at least some of them just don't feel like talking to you about it even if they know. You can call again and again and ask 20 of them, and maybe you'll get someone that actually does know and is willing to share info with you, or you might get a bunch of people who just show up and do their jobs, don't give a crap about the products they support, and have no idea what you're talking about. Either way, I wouldn't discount something a Sprint rep says, because they're at least as likely to know as anyone else.
Flash is slow as **** anyways? Lol. And cant you just get the apk from somewhere and install? I did it on my hero, but my processor is sllllooowwwwww lol.
