Bell recovery mode - fix from Samsung is on the way - Galaxy S I9000 General

Was just at the store aaking about exchanging my SGS, and the rep told me they were not allowed to exchange phones for lack of recovery anymore, since all curent models do it.
But, she also said that Samsung knows about the problem, that it is well documented, and that a rom update will be out soon to fix it. She said it may ship with the froyo update.
She semed to know what she was talking about and said this came from the Samsung rep, so I think it is legit

With the rate that Samsung's dragging its feet for fixing other issues with the galaxy s line, I'm glad I just got a straight refund for mine last week. Waited quite a long time for the SGS to be available in Canada, but now I'm kind of wondering if I should wait longer for HTC's next super phone.
Think they really need to crank up their bug fix team. Many people got burnt by them not updating older phones, but with the number of sales they have with the S, it really could hurt their mobile sales for years to come if they let things slide.

Raise the BS flag!

i'll only move back to HTC if they include SAMOLED

Samsung is not dragging their feet have you looked at the x10 or the htc magic? Samsung has already put out a update for the bell model i9000m just 1 week after the phone came out.. thats fast.

Yes, the phone's been out for 1 week here in Canada, but in other parts of the world, it's been out for 2 months. And still no solid fix for the GPS. Go check out the GPS thread @ the phandoid forums to see how many times a phantom update was supposed to fix that issue.
I really did love my S, but I can live without a smart phone under all the issues are worked out. I'm a pessimist by nature, but I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised with all kinds of fixes and an on schedule froyo release.
PS, might want to look at the behold II, you know the phone that they said it would be upgraded to 2.x in their promotional video, then said 1.6 is as far as they were going to go just as the S was announced? heheh

Hmm that's weird.
I just exchanged mine this afternoon at Yonge and Dundas in Toronto and I wasn't even asked any questions. The manager said they were aware of the problem and that the new batch was working so it was exchanged on the spot. No mention of waiting for updates...
My new one works perfectly.

The GPS is fixed with the new ROM.... check the threads. I can attest to it it locks much faster and is much more accurate now.

To me, this just further confirms that a fix is coming. If it is fixed in new batches, then an updated SPL will be out shortly, or shipped with Froyo. It would not make sense to not ship it because it would just end up to more warranty returns due to bricked upgrades.

cool, hope they fix this soon!

just for the record, it's not just the Bell model
i9000 from other countries have having the same problem, and it's also not all the units, just some units
seems like they have some one sleeping in Samsung's QA department.
otherwise there is no explanation why some units of the same batch are fine, yet some units are missing the 3 buttons modes

And someone from futureshop was even arguing with me that bell did that to avoid rooting it 

My Experience with Replacing the Nexus

Hi all,
This is not so much of a ranting thread (although I am really frustrated), but just a gentle reminder to please check your screen for dust, as well as any other known issues BEFORE rooting. Thankfully, I did that, and my phone had dust under the screen UPON arrival. I got it at 2pm, and returned it to HTC by 5pm.
The other problem is, do remember Google takes no responsibility with hardware related issues. As much as I hate it, find HTC. I had a horrible experience with them, and I just want to share it with the rest of you. Also, I'm from Singapore, just in case.
I got my phone at 2PM from DHL, and was really happy about it (who wouldn't)? I opened it, booted it, and it was really fast. Then I checked the screen. There was not one speck, but at least 5 specks of dust under the screen. I immediately called HTC Singapore's hotline, and it was outsourced to another country (I'm guessing China, cause when they called me back it was +86). I can speak Mandarin, but only barely, and it was really difficult trying to tell them my problem in English. They really tried to help, but the communication barrier proved to be very frustrating. In the end, I was told to go down to HTC Care (at Keppel Bay Tower) to return the phone.
At this point in time, I didn't really want to make a huge fuss or anything. **** happens, I can accept that. All I want now is my phone replaced, as quickly as possible. I reached HTC Care around 4.15PM, but was only served at 5PM. Even worse, the staff at HTC Care Singapore had NO idea what to do with the Nexus One. They told me it was dealt differently from other HTC phones. As a consumer, I seriously do not care. I just want my phone fixed/replaced/whatever. I then waited for 20 minutes while they tried to log into the Nexus One system of theirs or something.
As though that was not bad enough, they had no idea what to collect from me. Some of them said I should return only the phone, while others said the entire box set. In the end, I returned the entire box set. They did not even bother to check the contents inside. Also, the courier service used this time is M3 express instead of DHL, and I was not given any tracking number despite them telling me the order has already been placed.
Also, there were other discrepancies. The phone staff told me to expect it within 3 working days, while HTC Care staff said to expect it within 3 to 5 working days. To be fair to the HTC Care staff, I doubt they were even briefed on what to do with Nexus Ones.
Below is the email I've sent to HTC, although at this point in time I doubt the response will be good:
To whom it may concern:
I placed my order for Nexus One with Google on January 9, and finally got it today, January 15, at 2pm. I understand that weekends are not considered work days, so effectively it took 5 working days to reach, which is reasonable to me.
I opened the Nexus One only to find dust under the screen. Doing a quick search on Google shows that it is a common problem. In fact, I read on some posts that it is considered to be a DOA problem by HTC, as seen from http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=29bc1e80107f01f7&hl=en. The first thing I did was to call the Singapore HTC helpline. I had a hard time communicating with them, but they did their best to help. I was told to go down to HTC Care (Singapore) at Keppel Bay Tower. The person on the phone had also opened a ticket for me.
I reached Keppel Bay Tower at 4.15PM, and was only served at 5pm. The service staff were polite but very unsure of what to do with the Nexus One. Apparently, Nexus Ones are dealt with differently from other HTC phones, though I do not see the point of them informing me of that. I have already accepted that there is dust under the phone and instead of making a big fuss, my main aim is to get my phone replaced on a one-to-one basis since I am still within the 14 days.
Once the staff managed to retrieve my information using the ticket number given to me earlier by the person over the phone, I was told I had to return the phone, but they were unsure whether to collect the phone, or the entire box set. In the end, they collected the entire box set. I had been told to expect it within 3 days by the person over the hotline, but the staff at HTC Care informed me that it was 3 - 5 days.
I am now requesting that you replace the entire box set, and deliver it to me within 3 days. In addition, I would like to know why the courier service used
is M3 Express instead of DHL (which was used when I first got my Nexus One). Moreover, I was not given any tracking number to track the status of my delivery, despite the service staff telling me that the order has already been placed.
I find it disappointing that the service staff had no idea what to do with Nexus One cases. It seems to me that HTC does not care because it is not really HTC's phone and more like Google's phone in this case. I hope you understand where I am coming from. It is my first time dealing with HTC's service, and the experience has been a let down. I have always thought highly of HTC's products since my previous HTC phones were all well-built, and I never had to visit the service centre.
I will appreciate if you could get back to me by Monday.
My ticket number, as well as product serial number are as follows:
Ticket No.:
Phone S/N:
Thank you.
Regards,

To end it, please remember to check before rooting!
bro sad to hear this from you.
I also got my nexus one today and i notice the screen's bottom left and right corners are making loose noise when pressed with some pressure..
so i used some pressure on the problemic areas for 20secs and so far, no more loose noise..
Hopefully it will prevent my unit from dust..
I have been consistantly checking mine as well. This sucks

From what I understand, this is still a problem with a small minority of phones.
People who do not have this problem (as you might have noticed) are not going to be very vocal about not having it.
For the record, I have an N1 and have had zero problems whatsoever, screen or otherwise.

Mine doesn't have it either. If you can't see it, then why is it bothering you? Mine doesn't have jam (jelly if you're in the USA) in it either but I'm not going to keep checking for jam.

its bothering me because I REALLY want to root but REALLY will go out of my mind if I see this problem after rooting (because my warranty will then be long in the void ). So I want to track this problem down now and some how be 100% sure that my phone is safe.
Wow, this dust problem is become quite large. Small quantities doesn't sound like a good enough example of the problem. I don't have my Nexus One yet, but I do hope - that when I get it soon - the newer models (if they are starting to correct the issue) doesn't have this problem.

Well, you either wait for the warranty to expire or you root it before.
If you're really that worried power it off and check it with a magnifying glass. TBH Right now there are 1001 reasons not to root it and only a couple of reasons to root it. Unless there's something you really need/want root for you may as well wait.

I know, I am waiting for now, probably until Cyanogen Mod comes out for N1. However I do not want to wait a year

Theres more to root than apps2sd. For example, Internet tethering is a feature I really want and only possible through root.
Since we're talking about rooting here, I just wanna root to upgrade to un-released Android firmwares, themes, changing things inside the phone that aren't possible stocked. There are lots of reasons to root in my eyes, and I really don't care about the negatives.

Also I don't plan to root until the S-ON/S-OFF issue is either resolved or root without unlock is discovered.

There are always alternative. Although not as elegant of a solution, PDAnet allows you to connect your phone to your computer so it can use your data connection. Works pretty well.
as someone who had to unroot and use the warranty on my rooted G1 like 11 months after I got it, I definitely will not root my N1 when I get it unless there is a way to revert to the full factory settings. I'm not a dev but I have faith they will figure it out though.
I woke up to find this thread now has 3 pages of useless conversation :|.
Anyway, if you take a torch and shine it it'll be obvious if there's dust on it.
I need root cause of Market Enabler and internet tethering. Will update this thread when I get a response from HTC.
That's a truly depressing story!
The warranty situation is the main reason I use to keep myself from buying this phone. Since I had a hardware issue with my G1 that needed to be replaced (stopped accepting USB input, so it wouldn't charge or transfer data), this is kind of a deal-breaker for me.
Not repairing hardware defects because of a software issue is complete bull****.
My contract comes due in November, hopefully by then, HTC will have changed their policy. If not, the phone I buy definitely won't be unsubsidized! I've had good luck just contacting tmobile and saying the phone broke. Since it doesn't work, I'll have to cancel my contract and pay the ETF.....in the past they've given me a good price on a replacement. This probably wouldn't work if I wasn't on contract with them.
I agree and some of these pointless posts have been reported, so please keep this thread on topic.
I have cleaned this thread up so please refrain from from spamming and flaming. (and will continue to do so!)
Greetz.
i may be sending mine in for a repair soon, i have a stuck/dead baby blue pixel.

I just did a swap

And my GPS is much faster.
Phone was built on the same exact day too.
Factory resetting the phone should be a prerequisite. It eliminated a lot of the loading screens. No different here. The first thing I did was reset the phone.
I just swapped mine too. The GPS problem is not there with this one and I get no lag whatsoever. .. I'm not going to root this one due to the fact its perfect the way it is!

Yes, within 14 days, exchange.
I am going to do that.
See my last few posts here: http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Samsu...Tmobile-know/m-p/427717/highlight/false#M5225
Tmobile acknowledges the issue as of today, Samsung phone support was helpless. He also said those are Shipped dates on the box, not manufacture dates...
I think I am going to exchange when I have time tomorrow.. this sucks as it is.

I understand what you're saying and I myself was apprehensive about rooting again but I did and GPS still works the same. I'd understand if you still wouldn't want to mess with what works. WiFi tether doesn't even work so you would basically be rooting just to take screenshots and maybe a couple of other things.

Wherever you got yours from. Take it back and tell them you want a new one because GPS doesn't work on this one. Don't accept those hacky fixes because they really don't work.
That's interesting about the Build Date, it was still "shipped" on the same day then but this one is much MUCH better with the GPS..
Can you guys confirm if the compass problem its still there with your new devices.

I was super unhappy with the phone coming from a nexus one.. it had lag and was just a horrible experience. . Getting this new phone shows me what the vibrant can do.. I don't even think twice about the nexus now.
But I just went in there with my receipt and told them the phone was laggy as hell. He gave me a new one no problems at all!
I love this phone!
Lag is fixed with a simple Factory Reset, GPS seems to be a defect.
my last 2 I've had were laggy even after several factory resets.. this one out of the box is amazing no reset needed.
I dont know. I think i may call T-Mobile because if i go back to Radio Shack im sure im just going to get one of the first phones. Plus when I first got this phone i didnt have any of the lag issues but the more I used the phone the more i noticed the lag problem.
u guys have specific dates of the phones that have the issue and the ones that dont?
Can you now lock into more than one GPS? I think I saw 2 of them lok int today for the first time. I guess I will return it.
your post gave me some hope, so i called into Tmo to arrange the return and exchange
the rep, after giving me the return instructions, asked me if i would mind speaking to their "android" dept - gave me over to somebody who wasn't in that dept but wanted to flesh out the return issue
he looked into it, said he found a note in their system from engineering that there was a known issue with the GPS on the T959 and that there was no known work around or fix at this time
it could be bad chipsets that were used in the first shipment, and these replacements or later production units were assembled with better QC'd GPS chipsets
think i'll wait out the full 14 days to see if the replacements continue to function the way they're supposed and exchange. if not, simply return for credit
I get 3-4 sats in my house. So there is still room for improvement but there is no doubting that this one has much better GPS performance
Sent from my SGH-T959
Thanks for following up with your replacement experience. Guess I'm off to the tmo store today.
I called tmobile as well and they admit that there is a problem that tmobile and samsung are working on, currently all devices are supposed to be affected and there is no known workaround.
The compass is something I could live with but the GPS not working is a reason to return it. Big question is if this is a hardware- or software related issue...
Looks like I will be on my way to the store soon as well...
I just tried a swap myself and they gave me the same spiel about the known problem and no known fix. So I couldn't get a swap because they said it wouldn't fix the problem so the only option they gave me was to get a refund... I passed. If this is true I am very disappointed.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I'd also much appreciate if those of you have swapped and are happy with gps & compass performance can post the date from the box, and maybe serial number sequence (last 4, or something, maybe?)
So far I have no real issues with lag, but definitely get poor gps performance, even after the fixes.
Date on my phone box is 7/12/2010
cheers =)
I've honestly not had any issues with my phone. When I have clear sky its as fast as my G1 was. I will admit its not as strong as my G1 getting a signal in doors near a window, but outside it doesn't have any issues.
I've not exchanged mine or tweaked it. I received mine via UPS last week.
I just received my vibrant today and gps and compass seem to work as good a my old G1. I used gps status from the market and had a 42-38 ft accuracy in the house, didn't test outside, damn tropical depression. The compass seemed pretty stable as well. At least more stable then my G1.
My box ship date is 7/13/10.

My new Froyo theory

Its been 2 months here very shortly and we have no GPS fix or any word on froyo. FROYO has been out since may, the n1 has it, evolution has it, incredible, d2, dx soon, g2 etc. But no Samsung galaxy or even rumor on when we should get it.
The GPS fix was promissed this month, and well its halfway over I just don't see within the next two weeks a GPS fix being rolled out. Of course also no word on froyoz and not only that but CM6.1 may or may not even support our sgs ..
Sooooo, if there is no froyo or atleast a GPS fix by Oct 8th (rumored g2 release date) I'm selling this damn thing on Craigslist and getting a g2...
I love the vibrant way more than the g2 but I'm sure its gps will work and its coming with stock 2.2.
Wtf Samsung, get your act together. I heard rumors about slow updates but wow. At this time now the evolution had cm6 and a real rom from HTC/Google.
Anyways, hurry up Sammy or I'm going back to htc with the g2.
Edit: lets not be stupid either, if Samsung could fix this GPS issue, it would be fixed by now and the epic as they said would work would work properly ...
I've lost all faith on a software issue and believe its hardware. Why else would every version be wacked.
Just in case though I'm giving them till the g2.

The thing is... These half assed threats of switching to a different phone vendor are pretty lame. No one (including samsung, HTC and google) cares what phone you have. Keep the vibrant, dont keep the vibrant. Who cares.
When you got on your rant what were you setting out to accomplish? Oh...thats right. Nothing.
So here is an idea. If you are an unhappy customer and feel the company you bought your phone from. The same company that you did your reasearch on and accepted the risk the phone bring updated wouldnt fit into your time frame. Use your powers of free will and go.but something else.
Good day sir.
The samsung galaxy s i9000 has froyo.
The thing I don't understand is everyone is having lag and gps issues but me. I have no lag at all. I use my gps to navigate daily, plus I use it for geocaching and always come within 10 feet of the cache. I just don't get it.

I stand by my topic, we should all be frustrated for Samsung not fixing our GPS or atleast saying its completely fubared. Froyo, where's froyo? I've got valid gripes and *****es, that's what forums are for and I think many agree things are getting to near and we don't see no light at the end of the tunnel.
Yes Samsung should care on their Rep cause in the end that's what gets them a returning customer.

THERE WILL BE NO, I SAY AGAIN NO GPS FIX OR FROYO THIS MONTH OR EVEN SHORTLY AFTER. THAT IS WHY I WILL BE GETTI G A G2. I'd advise anyone needing GPS or froyo to find a new phone. Samsung isn't gonna do **** anytime soon... yes that's negative but I'm a realist, it's not gonna happen.
I personally don't care if there's "yet another thread" about this. I understand people are pissed (I get pissed too). Yeah, Sammy doesn't care whether we are happy or not - they are a huge multinational corporation half a world away. There are so many layers between us and their management it's not even funny. Our concerns get lost in a call log of a customer service department or in a product manager's inbox of automated reports. Plus, even if they did read and have concern about these issues, it's too late. Usually it's cheaper for them to take these issues and fix them in the next iteration of the product than to re-tool the factory or make a change on the line. A massive corporation like Samsung is all about efficiency and not stopping production. Our only hope is a software fix or, by the grace of God, a recall if the problem is so bad it requires legal action.
I agree with the poster that says we can just walk away and get a different phone or whatever. However, some of us paid $500 for this thing and it's a significant investment to buy yet another phone. Yeah we can eBay it (which is what I would do). Or for others it's just a disappointment because ON-PAPER this is the "perfect phone". I'm a little of both. I love this phone - the form factor, the screen, the UI, etc - but it's not operating as advertised. If the phone would work as intended it would be my perfect phone. That's what many of us are holding out hope for. We are frustrated and want a fix, not a new phone.
I had to get rid of my Evo because of horrendous QC problem (mine was literally coming apart). It was almost heartbreaking because I waited so long for that damn phone to come out. But once I got the Vibrant, the Evo was forgotten about - until the buzz wore off and the lag and GPS issue became a serious problem. OK, I'm done storytelling.
With over 2 weeks left in the month, let's hope Sammy pulls through and tries to save their reputation. I'll say this though - I will think VERY carefully next time I buy a Samsung phone.

What's lame is you ranting In my topic about what I make a thread about. Obviously you cared and it made enough of a impact on you to reply . I have every right to ***** and you will see more of it from others for the rest of your life. So before you act lime a preacher and try and change the world/forum, think again, your post is as washed up as this supposed topic your saying.
I was all for this phone and backing up waiting, but common were going on a quarter of a year withouwfixes or froyo, some people don't but have a phone for 6 months, 3 of that 6 there waiting like crackheads for a bag?
Please no rude responses I have a valid gripe

i agree i just talked to android about it. they said not anytime soon because 1 month ahead they get notified if they update would come to a certain phone or not. and she said there is nothing about 2.2 on vibrant. so we are ****ed..
You must be part of a forum gang.
If you are so unhappy with your phone do yourself and this forum are favor by returning it and get a phone with froyo.

That is strange, I talked to Samsung at the beginning of the month, they said when they dropped 2.2 for the International one, which has happened, they pushed the build to their "vendors" at the same time. So now it is in the hands of Tmo/ATT and such to finish their "customizing"(read "****ing up") of 2.2 before they push it out ...
Disclaimer: Samsung info may be bogus, but has as much chance as any other source to be accurate.

Yes exactly, Come oct 8th I will be getting a phone with froyo. I just don't want to have to play the sale my vibrant game, and miss the things I do love like the screen.
And why the heck no cm6 yet? Hell people bought them a vibrant just for us and still nothing...
Doesn't it seem at least a bit difficult to port Froyo to another phone as a side hobby?
Edit: let alone get the gps working too . Not like froyo is the be all end all fix for everyone's problems.

Hell the dam hd2 has froyo on it and its not even a android phone. What's going on with vibrant development.... unmarked maybe I should sell the vibrant and big 2 hd2s and put froyo on them and give my wife one.. lol
Sad that a non android phone has froyo but yet a 2 month old top of the line android phone is yet to even have a custom rom.. lmaooo.
I've supported this phone up till now. Now, I'm pissed. Sorry to upset some of you but this is utter crap.
If anything, anything give us a GPS fix.
Edit: also I have a n1 with froyo, were missing a lot without it..

Exchange Your AT&T Pre-Ordered Phone For In-Store

I think the pre-ordered ones were a beta firmware or were pre-production, because I just exchanged mines today at a corporate AT&T store and it just seems better and more fluid.
On the pre-ordered, when I check to see if there were a software update, I would get an error, but the in-store version will just say that I'm up to date. I can now view my playlist on the stock music player, which the in-store version would not. Also, when I get a notification, I get a bubble on the lock screen that tells me that, something the pre-order didn't do. The in-store version just feels smoother overall, thus I think Samsung must've screwed something up with the mad rush to get the phones out to everyone.
Interesting. I just read an article about the international S3 getting an update that made the UI smoother and had different radios. One of my friends got the Sprint S3 and it didn't have the launcher redraw issue I have.

perhaps you just had a bad phone; i dont have any of those issues on mine.
Was there any hassle in exchanging phones? My Wi-Fi seems to work about 70% of the time.

They definitely changed the build quality....I preordered mine on the 13th and th back cover doesn't close completely flush in a corner....then I ordered one for the wife on the 28th and that one snaps in just fine! It's not the cover as I tried hers on mine (same gap)...
My pre-order seems ok, no errors at all. I see a small gap different from the other side though lol :-/ wouldn't have noticed if u didn't say either lol

There is nothing different about the pre-order phones, you just happened to get a dud, apparently. It happens.
My phone does all of the things your 'in-store' one does, and has from day 1.

I am of this same thought. There are going to be defective units out there. That's what happens in manufacturing (both hardware and software). Sometimes software doesn't "stick", sometimes molds get out of line. It happens.
Mine has issues with wifi, issues with bluetooth, random apps force closing regularly, voice control/s voice not working (opens then just closes) and wont check for updates (I get that server communication error thing).
My new one is on the way to replace the one I pre-ordered last month (middle of the month some time).

My pre-order is a mess.... between the loose volume rocker that rattles like the cans behind a limo leaving a wedding and the robotic voices that the front speaker produces on a call, I can't wait to bring mine back for an exchange! I love this phone though, and considering I use Bluetooth for any call I ever make (was waiting on my newest one to arrive or else I would have never known about the horrible speaker), I'm not going to ***** about it anywhere else online for Apple fanboys to fuel their fire....
Best Buy pre-order, AT&T customer, Silver Rewards member, picked it up on 6/28/12, going to return it 59 days from the date of purchase so I can beat this thing up without a case or screen protector until then and see how it holds up!

I'd be careful with this line of thought. If a unit has a difficult time caring out "stock" tasks, then isn't it possible an "aftermarket" program would cause even more issues?

I know exactly what you mean. I wasn't talking about apps.
Are the ROMs, Kernels and modems ALL built totally from scratch? Or, are they pulled from predefined configuration and then tweaked and massaged to the liking of the user? (an Aftermarket build that starts with the stock build and tweaked from there).
So, if the stock build has issues running on a particular unit (defective) what reasoning says it would run better when the ROM/Kernel/Modem is modified to suite the users' tastes? It's really a toss up isn't it? Are we breaking these phones down and physically testing each circuit and then saying "OK all hardware is fine, it must be this one line of code that is the issue."?
My point is, would you build a house on a cracked foundation (defective from factory)?
But, if the foundation is torn down completely and rebuilt from the ground up, then you can have a very stable house. Which I believe is more where you are coming from, and correct me if I am wrong. I am after all a noob. That's not a smart a** comment, I am new to Linux/Android.

So what does a program like Antutu Benchmark's information page (or some other system info program) say for details of the new phone? Let us know when you check and what you used to check it. I have probably one of the earliest shipping AT&T phones (received fedex on 6/22) so I'd like to compare component version numbers and such. I get the error on the update check and I don't recall getting a "bubble" on the lock screen. Could you post a screenshot of what you mean by that?

[Q] Should I buy New Nexus 7 right now or wait for another set of fresh models?

Hey guys, please help me out.Since the 2013 Nexus 7 is having a lot of issues and could be solved with updates, should I still buy it or wait for fresh set of models that come with problems-free in another a couple of months?I know warranty is there and everything but still I am scared.

As someone who just returned his 3rd with dead pixels, my only recommendation is to buy from a place that you know will let you return it.
It seems to be a random **** shoot, I see all these people reporting they have units that are good, and then there's me and the others in the dead pixel thread.
An update has already been released to fix the multitouch and GPS issue.

I would buy without any hesitations. Don't read into many complains here, they will play with your head.
(just like IF I told you that your GF is cheating on you .. would it suddenly makes her look suspicious somehow ?).
Haha.... I'm looking forward to some factory-refurbished sales down the road.

Like you said most issues are fixable by update which are rolling out now but depends on your preference. I was thinking the same thing but waited a month. The current hardware which is what I have rev. E, seem to be issues free. Have spoke to others both 16gb and 32gb who are so far issue free under this rev so it really just depends where you buy it if they're still on the initial stock or if they've gotten new batches. I bought mine off amazon, through amazon them selves, meaning no separate sellers on amazon and got lucky with no issues but as said under rev. E, now I'm not totally sure how true that is that's what was explained to me by someone else while we are waiting for the current update, so I guess your best bet is to talk to someone who is experiencing these issues souch as multi-touch, random reboot and GPS issues. See what rev the initial stock was. Other wise like you mention you can just wait a month or so which most issues should be ironed out by then but seems as if they're getting a good handle on that so should have to wait too long if you choose to do so.

I got you on that, haha.Normally refurbished models come problem-free,right?I am considering waiting for it,then. What do you think?Bcz its a question of importing one.
The thing about 'lots of issue' reports is that folks are bound to announce when they are upset, but majority or folks enjoying the products is keep enjoying it instead of complaining. So, it may seem like there are a lot of issues, but it actually isn't widespread in any way.
I got one and loved it, but I returned it. I didn't any issues. I returned it because I want the LTE version instead. So, if you want to hold out, do it if you want the LTE version (just $80 more than the 32GB wifi version), not if you're waffling about quality issues. But if you are concerned, by it from a brick & mortar store so you have a return window.

Reboot into bootloader shutdown the hold vol down+ power, the hardware rev will be toward the bottom. As I said not sure how true that is haven't checked into this my self but would be good to know.
Don't listen to people to tell you to ignore complaints. There is a 30-something page thread about dead pixels going on since launch for a reason, and another about build quality that is huge as well.
The multitouch and GPS problems have been addresses in a (timely) update.
However, if you or your friend care about dead pixels or dust under your screen, it is something that people are indeed experiencing (again - i opened a july mfg unit yesterday and it had 2 dead pixels - my 3rd nexus with dead pixels).
I think the real question here is: If your friend opened one up in India with a dead pixel, some light bleed, some dust under screen, or any other blemish, would he be able to deal with it?

You are absolutely right. If its software issues like GPS and Multi-touch,it could be solved over updates but dead pixels and light bleeding can get him helpless. So its better to wait for refurbished models? If so will they come a bit late?
But are these common issues with every phone in this intensity?

Yes forgot about the dead pixel issue, that is true but not as all have it, its pretty much rolling the dice to see if your lucky enough to get one issue free, at least at the moment. So maybe to wait would be best or even a return but the return hasn't always proven true for me. I came from the Asus transformer which was riddled with ghost touch issues, went through 3 of them just couldn't get around it whether it was a return or not.
