Found a G1 the other day and left it on for the owner to call em to get the phone back. Lost phones before, I know how annoying it was, but the owner hasnt called in 2 days so im assuming they dont want it.
That said, they will more than likely call and block this phone, if they do, is there any way I can get it working again?

I dont think Tmobile blocks stolen phones from the network. (I didn't check to see if you were in the US or not)
I've lost a phone in the past and asked if Tmob could block the phone from their network and they say its not possible.
If you want to be more proactive, open up gmail and send yourself an email, then you'll have the owner's address and then send him an email. Hopefully he'll give you a small reward for your trouble and kindness.

No offense but I am going to ask this question, How old are you? and Do you have something listed as Mom or Dad?
LOL I am not trying to say anything bad I just never heard of anyone over the age of 30 having Mommy in their phone LOL I am only 22 and have it as their full names, but I do have ICE for them as well.

I was just saying that I haven't met many with mom or dad in their phone listed as mom or dad.

I agree. I have no "mom", "dad", "sister", "home" etc. In my phone book. Closest thing I have is "aunt ----" haha. It is easy to text anyone from the inbox and say "hey I found this phone how do I contact the owner?" -simple isn't it?
I am 31, and have 'Mum' in my phone...
I have Mom and Dad in my phone and I'm 28. Never really seen a reason to change it. When I talk to them I call them Mom and Dad so thats how they are listed in my phone book.
As for the lost phone you could have easily taken it into a T-mobile store or called T-mobile customer care. Sounds like you wanted to keep the phone and to make yourself feel better you waited a whole 2 days. Loosing your phone sucks I would try and be more proactive about finding the owner.
Most lost phones never reach there owner and i would say if the sim is still active the owner hasnt reported it to tmob. if it has been disabled then i would say they will have most likely have claimed on there insurance so i would give it another 2 days (4 in total) look through the contacts and see if you an find anything that relates to a family member and call them to find the owner.
by this time you should have spoken to the owner and with any luck he will haev an insurance replacement and say you can have the phone for £25 or so ( the insurance excess) or at least if i lost my phone and had a replacement via insurance and then was told someone had found it i would try and make a deal with them.
I don't have mom and dad listed as I call them but by their proper names.
Closest I have are aunt and uncle so and so.
My phone is also locked with contact info displayed that doesn't include the cell in question. Now if only I could get a Google Voice acct.

I am 32 and have Mom and Dad listings in my phone, I also have my grandparents listed as (get this) Grandparents.
Because... get this, they are my mom, dad, and grandparents. My dad is not Daniel to me, even though that is his name, he is my dad.

A whole two days is a lot more than what thousands of other people would have done. I could go to a t mobile store after I work all week, like I have nothing better to do, but for what? the guy behind the counter to say yes sir, il get this right back to him, and put it in his pocket?
IMO the guy had 2 days to ring me, he didnt, he dosnt want the phone so my question was, am I going to be able to use it normally or is it as good as a brick?

I know i know guys, just wanted to tell you what they said last night when i was trying to get my google voicemail working. i asked when the update and she said it was supposed to be late march but a problem with mms having to download was the reason it was pushed back. of course no date was given, but i just thought that was strange being that all the devs here have mms working on their rom's. i hadnt heard anything about that problem, just thought i would let yall know. and as always, thanks a million to the dev's making these crazy good rom's.

yea my dude works as a sprint CS agent and i know more than he does jus from being on xda he had no clue that the hero was even gettin 2.1 and we discussed this like a couple of days ago...they just go there for 8 hours and listen to people ***** thats all their trained to do and are find out about stuff like right before it comes out only when its necesary for them to know about it to help people

How can something be delayed when Sprint didnt even specify a date?
First half of 2010 can be up to late June.
Oh wait, they changed the date, they said end of 2nd quarter.

Ok, I've been reading all the threads about the 'leaked' beta that's being argued over etc. so I took it upon myself to chat w/ a Sprint rep about 2.2 and how to get my hands on this mystical beast..
When directly asked how to help beta test, the rep suggested that I contact technical support and they would "definitely" help me with that request.
FWIW..
No way any end-user is going to get a copy of that, sorry... Imagine the piles of NDAs you'd have to sign. They'd basically have to hire you into hardware dev. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it won't happen. That phone number is just to get you off their back.

After talking to Tier 2 tech support on the phone, I emailed him my screenshot and he seemed really puzzled that an online chat rep would tell me this.
HE said he is not aware of anything going on for beta testing.. Further, he checked his 'inside' mail/communications about upcoming things etc. and didn't see anywhere that would imply that the 2.2 update would be here within the next few weeks but he said that's where things stand today and it was subject to change.
He did say that normally, they get the inside scoop before things drop so that they are prepared before the official drop/release of new stuff and he saw nothing yet to imply that froyo was coming.
Further, he also mentioned that Sprint does not normally do Beta testing that he is aware of and that sometimes people get ahold of things (leaks) before they're official (which we already knew)..
So there's the answer. Sprint doesn't normally do beta testing
keep calling and bugging them and see if someone else gets it LMFAO
or just wait....
Two things:
1. The online rep you talked to doesn't speak English and is not privy to any sort of inside information. They don't know ****.
2. The "Tier 2" rep you talked to doesn't know ****.
No way, no how will you ever be able to "beta test" for Sprint. They do their own testing, but they keep it under wraps pretty tight. Anybody you talk to on the phone is just a Sprint drone.
Either way, you don't know if you don't ask right?

Other than that, I do have to agree, sprint employees are quite dumb. After being with sprint for 6 or so years, I would know. Especially in the first few years before they actually got their **** kinda together.
Also, I believe that 2.2 froyo will be coming out around the end of november. I'm going to stick to that. If not, then sprint is gonna have a ****load of people wanting their money back.

Meaning that froyo is still set to be released at the end of november or that the epic will not receive froyo at all? If its the latter then I among many others will rage and most definitely return the epic.
Oh and no offense. Just stating that I've dealt with my share of sprint employees that aren't the brightest crayons in the box...

There is absolutely no doubt that the Epic will receive Froyo.
It will get it, I spoke with a rep at one of our conferences and he did state it was coming, but he just had no idea when. I know doesn't help to move things along. But be patient. Hell I had to wait until a week ago before employees were able to get our epics, so good things do come to those who wait.

Just wait until he gets next months bill and for some reason they switched him to a family plan with international roaming because he called in and asked about Froyo.
Rule #1 - NEVER call sprint unless you absolutely HAVE to.
Rule #2 - If you do HAVE to call, make sure to check your account online IMMEDIATELY after getting off the phone with them no matter what you were calling in about.
As long as froyo is a definite, its all good. Just gotta be patient even though its hard to wait for something that will make your phone truly "epic".
And damn, that would suck. Never have I experienced that with sprint but in the future ill look out for that. Idkillabitch if that happened to me.

LOL, no, they don't. They work in call centers, though some of the reps like to compare it to prison.
As for the beta testing, there is a VERY long, drawn out process to be a beta tester, and it's not what you know, it's who you know. I had some fairly high up individuals asking to get me beta team access, and I was shot down damn near instantly. However, a former coworker's brother got him into the beta team, and he was receiving phones almost 6 months before they were released. It was pretty awesome playing with the new stuff before any info was ever leaked to the net, but these folks are NOT techies like us, they just play with the phones and report any obvious bugs.

Well he was very nice i must admit and even though i didnt get an answer i liked 2 much it was better than the usual "oh we dont know anything about it". He said that the Update WAS ready for the 11th of November but that tyhere were a couple of bugs and they are trying to work on it to relase as soons as possible. He said that he talked to a couple fo co-wrokers and his supervisor and he gathered that he truly sincerely didnt know(which i actually beleived for the first time) BUT that the LASTEST and FINAL DATE that FROYO for the epic will be out by is DECEMBER 5th, which i know is not the best date AT aLL but its certainly best than the END OF THE YEAR. so yeah wanted 2 share that, if anyone else scoops something up let US all know

the froyo leak has always been running as stable as
the 2.1 for me. So I am fine with it.

Total meaningless BS.
Literally no one in the first two tiers of tech support is going to have the slightest idea. It will be released when ready. Target are movable, they are not going to blow a few million bucks in needless support issues if it isn't ready on Dec 5, so the support person you spoke to was just completely making it it up. There was also clearly never a target of the 11th.
On of our more respected Sprint people here has said the target has been NOv 29th for a while and that is the only credible thing that has surfaced, and is incidentally, exactly in line with the only thing Sprint and Samsung have ever said publicly, which is their placing the release for Epic at between the end of November and the end of December.

He's right. You're simply not going to get any kind of accurate answer from Sprint CS on things like this. They know practically nothing.
I really don't understand why u ppl are making it seem like the OP is doing something wrong.. we are all just wanting froyo and he called sprint and shared with us what the rep said. we will find out when it is when it comes which is hopefully gonna be soon...

Just hop on over to the dev sub-forum. There is the leaked 2.2 beta and about 3 roms based on it already. You just need to root and install clockwork mod recovery.
i work internally there and i can tell ya this i get all my info on the outside.... its not like we really know i also talk to multiple people in the company and we email each other to find info out... remember we are employee's not SPRINT don't rely on what an employee tells ya talk to the source ask Google when its coming out why are you asking a service provider? we don't make or create the software and we are not the equipment manufacture people need to come to grip and realize sprint is only a service provider

For the upgrade to fully use flash makes your point false. Froyo is a big step from 2.1.
And also I spoke to a rep as well. And he was giving me info he read off of Android Central so he's basically in the dark as much as we are. Phones being released is one thing because Stores get the info ahead of time for stock purposes. Froyo is something different.

I'm pretty sure the few million bucks of support doesn't bother them one bit. As we've seen with the GPS issues, they'll just ignore it. No cost at all to them.
Some Sprint reps know way more than others about current and upcoming products. However, keep in mind that it's not their job to keep you up to date on release dates for Froyo, and at least some of them just don't feel like talking to you about it even if they know. You can call again and again and ask 20 of them, and maybe you'll get someone that actually does know and is willing to share info with you, or you might get a bunch of people who just show up and do their jobs, don't give a crap about the products they support, and have no idea what you're talking about. Either way, I wouldn't discount something a Sprint rep says, because they're at least as likely to know as anyone else.

You can not call up Boost and say, I have an EVO here is my ESN. I guess that might be unethical, but thats debateable. You simple do not tell them what kind of phone it is. As to why the hacking and such, I think there are people out there looking to make a buck. Some people will pay anywhere between 50-100 to get this done. I did it myself by simply calling. My phone was never cloned, nor did the ESN go bad. Like I said, I was able to put my TP2 back to Sprint when I switched back. I originally bought the TP2 off ebay with a clean ESN.
* About the hack or Boost systems, well I would guess, there might be a few rogue Boost CRs who do this on the side for a fee. Therefore, implying there are hacks that need to be done in order to charge.
