serious battery problem.. - Touch2 General

battery is ending 9 or 10 hours later after fully charged. there is no background application working, no incoming or outgoing calls, no sms, no wireless even I never touch the phone after charge but battery is not working even half day. how can I solve this problem?

Could be a faulty battery, could be the rom you're using, a bit more detail please?

I closed 3g connection and phone is now in edge mode and battery seems like ok for now.

get the NoData.cab from somewhere here on XDA(use search) and disable the connections if u want ... others keep the WiFi shutdown when not used and that's all new phone with new battery should last for 24 hours ATLEAST with moderate usage !

Battery drain TyTn

All,
I am experiencing serious battery drain on my TyTn. WiFi and Bluetooth are disabled and 100% charged battery drains overnight. This can't be normal even with 3G. Does anyone else experience this?
For me this is normal for 3G. My TyTN will last roughly 24 hours with UMTS/3G turned on, and 3-4 days with 3G turned off...
Not even lasting that long
Mine isn't lasting that long... How do u turn 3g off?
Phone -> Menu -> Options -> Band (?) -> Set it from auto to "GSM".
Use bandswitch. It will do the change very fast.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286844&highlight=bandswitch
I think the Battery Drain problem relates to always on 3G connection. Infact I had also configured Outlook Software to check and download the emails from my POP3 Server after every 15 minutes. Apart from that, I was not using the Internet connectivity for any other application. But still around 10 to 15 percent of the Battery was getting consumed every Hour and which was quite high.
I have now Hard Reset my PDA and configured the PDA to only use GPRS (i.e. GSM) for checking the emails after every 15 minutes. I have not installed any additional Software after Hard Reset and now I am using the PDA as per the default factory settings. Only Outlook is checking the emails after every 15 minutes.
Now the Battery consumption has been around 30% in the last 12 Hours (i.e. from 100% to 70%). During this period, I have not received any calls and I have not used my PDA for any other purpose.
Kindly advise if the above consumption is normal or is it still on the higher side.
Many Thanks.
this looks normal to me. i do about 20-30% for a day depending on the amount of mail I get. this is through GPRS of course. 3G seems to suck battery at least 100% faster
It also depends on the Radio you have installed. I had 1.18 and experienced a heavy drain on 3G along with other users who upgraded to the RSA 1.35 ROM release. Since moving on to the 1.27 radio my battery consumption is now acceptable again.
Maybe this assists.
HTC Touch Diamond2 is next on our roll call of MWC debuts but this time it's less about the brand spanking novelty and more about balanced and sensible upgrades. People tend to have second thoughts about sequels but this one here is signed by HTC and may as well be the director's cut of a blockbuster.
I have a battery drainage problem too. I wish I can say mine drains within 12 hours. Once fully charged @ 100%, removed the charger, it drops 1% or so every 10-20 secs until ~80%. There onwards, if I use the phone, it drops drastically 5-10% each time I talk depending on the length of the conversation (most conversation barely reach 5 minutes.) If not used, it will drain the remainder within 6-8 hours. I tried changing a new batter and flashing with different ROMs and radios from this site but it doesn't seem to be helping. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I also expirienced battery drainage at my Hermes. What i do is i turn off my 3g and set my email send recieve to 30 minutes..
I noticed that when i have my data connection always on, it has a high persentage of battery drain..

Battery drain from 90% to 15% overnight..

This is so weird, last time i check before went to bed the battery show 90% but when i wake up the next morning it is down to 16% that is over 6hrs.
Anyone having this problem? I hope it is just one off occurrence.
I have problem with my battery as well. Is draing so fast. I thing there is a something wrong with battery or software.
Well without task manager you can never be sure what is running in the background. I have similar problems with X1, especially GPS seems to do it time to time. As if the driver got stuck or something. Try to soft reset your phone before going to bed.
As already mentioned you should check in task manager (pref. get a better one) and kill the apps that you've launched throughout the day.. I charged 24 hours ago and now I have 52% left.. 2 hours talking, 10 minutes music, 10 minutes video, 10 minutes gaming, 10 minutes messaging, a couple of minutes WLAN searching for connection. I also have 3G turned off when I dont use it.
I had an issue with my diamond where it would turn momentarily at 11:59pm. Then if it is on charge, it would stay on in a dimmed state hence not fully charging the battery. Still don't know why it does it. My Dopod D810 also did this.
Battery is going down very fast
I have the same problem, I solved this once with a soft reset, but the problem has returned ...
I have same issue as well. I'¨ve charged my device using data cable uto 100% at 6P.M. I wasn't doing any calls charge was about 90% befire I went sleep, Bluetooth was enabled but headset was turned off, next morning I was late at work. I found phone with 0% of charge in battery. So far it first time I see this kind of behaviour, but it would be good to test it again during the weekend .
Had that issue, battery drained in 5 hrs with flight mode on. Soft reset the phone and today it went down by 50% in 12hrs with calls and over 1hr of playing music and texting.
Same problem here, everytime closing apps in taskmanager but the battery drained in 6 hrs...
Softreset makes no difference. Could it be a software or hardware problem??
Google maps and battery drain ?
Hello
I have noticed that there is a big difference in battery drain after using Google maps. The battery having a quick drain. I make a soft reset and its back to normal ?
Somebody else have this same HTC Leo HD2 experience ?
I think for some unknown reason the GPS is working on the background, without seeing it in task manager. ( BUG ?)
All of you that have problems with the battery, how's the network coverage in your area? Strong, constant signal? Or always struggling to have a decent signal?
See posts 62, 63 and 64 of this thread (you can also see the entire thread, maybe it can help).
Have you enabled the MS MyPhone application, where at somepoint during the day it syncs your phone with "the cloud". My phone does this at 6am however this time is totally changeable by going to
Settings->Other->Microsoft My Phone
Other things is it still connected to WiFi,Bluetooth turned on this will drain battery still.
Another thing to look at is look at the TaskManager what applications are running - end all the ones you done need...at this point I would also reccommend Dutty's Task Manager in my eyes the most essential utility for WM

Is it my battery ONLY? Lasts barely a day

as above! this is making me crazy...
at most it is just moderate use. some calling some texting some opera mini-ing
and it is under GSM. Not 3G.
After 24 hours. I barely clock 20%.
Whats wrong with the battery?

Hey Leobox,
There could be a plenty of factors involved:
1. Constant use of GPRS to update weather.
2. Some SD cards use up the battery.
3. Make sure that your internet connection is not on generally
4. Finally, use BSB tweaks for power management.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
I have problem with my battery life as well. Mine barely lasted a whole day. All I did was 150 sms and typing in Microsoft Word and nothing else. Brightness was set to automatic.
And yes it's truly disappointing especially coming from HTC Touch HD.

as mentioned in my previous post.. the battery of HD2 seems to be ok.. a fren who is a power user has it.. generally this is what he does:
Full charge in the morning
Day use:
Approx 90-100 mins of call
15-20 mins of browsin
30 odd mins of music play
150 odd daily messages
15-20 mins of push mail
from 100% at about 8AM in the morning to about 25% in the evening at about 11PM.
I think thats pretty good
i have weather set to 6 hours.
yes my data connection is on.. but i do not surf.. will that kill battery>?

Thats the culprit
why will it kill .. i do not surf.. it is just on.. and it is only GPRS .. no 3g
with regard to data connection. do we have to manually turn it off in the settings page or is there a way to make it turn itself off when its idle.
what ROM are you on?
I was originally on 1.48 ROM and had pretty bad battery drain problems too.
Most i got was about 1 day on average usage (couple calls and texts with browsing and slight GPS)
But i upgraded to 1.61 and i can honestly get 2-3 days now, no joke!
On hard usage about 1.5 days, but its still much better than before.
So if u want u can try upgrading to 1.61 and see how that works out for you
After struggling with the battery life for last 10 days I figured the real culprit to be the SD card. from day 1 I had 4GB SD card and the response was always slow while browsing the storage card or using Music and Photo tabs in SENSE.
I replaced the SD card yesterday night with original 2 GB card. I had 54 percent yesterday night and after 16 Hours I am still at 33 percent. (even with 25 mins call and some use of phone).
Seems the problem is resolved. Hope this helps to all who have battery problem.

You are correct- a data connection turned on but not exchanging data uses minimal power as it's simply part of the GSM/3G service. However, if it is on, then some programs can use the connection for active data transfer which will use some power.
If you stick with GSM, rather than 3G, the battery hit is even less. Most battery usage when 3G is on results from the hunting between protocols when the 3G signal level is poor, though a good 3G connection uses less power than a stable GSM connection.
yes been thinking about updating the ROM. im on the o2 1.43 rom.
I still dont get the data connection though. even if i manually turn it off, something turns it back on i pressume its Twitter or weather. but why does it not disconnect itself afterwards?
i also have a question about the battery: is it normal that the battery drains 2-3 % per 10 minutes while listening radio?? screen is off, no data connection! this makes me crazy..
I'm using 1.48 ROM. It only lasts about a day .

I also have a Omina II, and whilst I appreciate it has a larger capacity battery and only 800mhz processor, I could listen to the fm radio for an hour and the battery would drop 1% Max. The omina does throttle down the processor for less demanding apps.
I had problem with G-Alarm. When in standby the HD2 use only 4-5mA in GSM/GPRS (no 3G) but when opening and closing G-Alarm, the HD2 was using in standby 80mA average.
I found that overnight it was discharging my battery around 40% (from 89% to 45% in 7hours). Then after disinstalling it I come back to normal discharge rate of around 4% overnight.
I think that G-Alarm and maybe some other softwares are not fully compatibles with the HD2 and after you open it (and close it with task manager, so not still open in background) there is a bug that let the HD2 not fully in standby, also if the screen stay off. In this situation the processor is still active and drain the battery faster. The only way to recover from this, is with softreset.
Perhaps apart from network usage / 3G / wifi / microSD etc. there are some programs developed for previous WM devices that are not 100% compatibles with HD2 and don't fully put on standby the device after you used it (also if closed with task manager) draining faster the battery.
Hi!
Which version do you use of G-Alarm?
I have not noticed this at all, and when i quit G-Alarm it quits and can't be found in taskmanager.

I tried the 2.3 version. When I was testing it, when closing it, it was not dispaying on task manager also for me, but after that the battery was draining quicker during standby. After I disinstalled it, the draining of battery during standby comeback to normal (4-5mA).
I use battery log to check battery draining.
It's a very powerful smartphone folks, my battery barely lasts a day either. I have to charge my HD2 every 20 hours-or-so. Stop comparing the battery drain on this handset to an old phone you just used for texting and making calls! Every smartphone I've owned drained the battery within a day if I actually used it for more than calls and texting. If you turn the data connection off and turn the 3G to GSM, you will experience much longer battery life....but then you won't be using the phone for anything much will you?

Battery Drain HD2?

Anyone else experiencing excessive battery drain on their HD2?
I am interested to know if this is just my phone or if it actually just chews through that much juice.
I have had windows mobile phones for several years so I know all the basic ways to keep battery drain down.
Stuff that I have generally found:
1. If I keep the screen turned on without it going blank I lose about 1% every 2 minutes.
2. If I am browsing that figure almost doubles.
3. My old Touch HD used about 5% battery overnight when in standby but this phone will go through about 25%.
4. The phone gets really hot when browsing (much hotter than my old Touch HD)
I have tried flashing ROM's and Radios but nothing seems to help.
I am not running any software on the phone that I wasn't running on my old HD1.
I have only had the phone for a week so I am not sure if this is normal but I would be very surprised if HTC released a phone that lasts for only a few hours on one battery.
+1
-1% every 3 minutes
-4% during the night (when i'am sleeping)
MAXIMUM : 45/48 HOURS

I wish I got 2 days
we really need extended battery ,hd1 battery was much more better.
Good mate but yes i agreee HTC has come up with a battery eating device this time around. My device on full charge just gives in around 8-10 hrs. This might be dat my EDGE is on and 7 mails accounts sending mails back and forth.
but truly i think that HTC better look into this very seriously cause more and more ppl are suffering in this battery drain..
Any of flashing roms and radio not helping either... did a complete hard reset but no step up
HTC come with longer battery battery for bigger devices soon......
The only solution i see now is get one of those extra battery worth mind bogling £52.87
I've had this problem ever since flashing to 1.66, I flashed the radio to 2.07.50.27 as this was said to solve the problem but it hasn't made any difference after a few days of use. My battery life used to be significantly better when I was on the original stock ROM, so much so I'm considering going back to it
I also know all the tricks as to clawing back the battery drain, my phone is idle on my desk at work most of the time and I don't use Wi-Fi, all the location stuff is turned off as are weather, stock and other updates plus my screen is set to 30% then off after 60 seconds. Despite all of that I lose 1% every 2-3 minutes
It seems to me that perhaps the radio is checking for reception pretty much constantly rather than say, 5-10 mins perhaps? This used to be a problem on my old Blackberry Storm but a few fimware updates solved it, eventually!
The only other thing I've noticed since the update is that once the battery drops below 50% or so, the drain seems to slow, I don't know if this is perhaps because the phone goes into some sort of semi-power saving mode?
Suggestions/hints welcome! I've had a semi-thorough look into this on the forums and tried most of the suggestions but still the problem remains. Will battery life improve after a few charges perhaps as this was a trait of my Storm's battery, the more you charged it the better the day to day battery life was (and no it wasn't because I had it plugged in all the time! Over time the general charge just seemed to improve when roaming).
Thanks!

You need to indicate what services you have running. Do you have any data services running eg: location services, push mail, weather? all of these have a bearing. In addition, network services can also drain a battery, especially if the signal is weak and the phone have to search for a transmitter, or 3g services.

That is a very interesting comment. Although since upgrading to radio 2.07.51.05_2 I have had very good battery life, I too have noticed a slowdown after 50%

Nothing is turned on, everything is set to manual.
As I stated I know all the basic stuff. I understand that all these things have a bearing on battery loss.
Everything I stated in the first post is for when I have nothing running. The phone is just sitting there running sense, thats all.
I have had my HD2 for a few days now. I am on Vodacom in South Africa.
I have not had a problem with battery life.
Yesterday i unplugged from the charger at 07:00. I spent about 1 and 1/2 hours of talk time on the phone, it was permanently connected to 3g doing weather updates etc. Sent and received a couple of sms's. Also played with a few tweaks and reboots.
When i got home at about 18:00 i had over 30% battery. I then surfed the web for over 2 hours to drain the battery.
try setting Network Selection to Manual

Same here with and without stock ROM.
yeah.. the phone is a battery sucker.... another cons of HD2....
This is very interesting to read because I do not have this problem. When I left my HTC HD2 on last night (I woke up at 4 in the morning to get something to drink and unplugged it) and then woke up at 8, it was at 98%. That means it went from 100% to 98% in 4 hours. Not to bad imo.
I am now at work and it is 15:34, and I am at 87%. I have made some calls, watched some videos, send a few text messages. Not much (I am at work so I got other things to do). So 08:00 (98%) - 15:34 (87%) - that's 7 and a half hours, with some calls, text messages and a video.
I am pretty sure when I get home at 18:30 the battery will still be above 75%. Then I connect to my wifi at home, refresh twitter, weather, browse the web a little bit, check e-mail etc. So that will drain my battery a little more.
But overall I have not had any problems with my battery life. I always make it trough a day, and never have a problem like 'damn my battery is almost done and I am not near a charger'.
Some info that might help:
I do not sync ANYTHING automatically. I still have some things to do with my Vodafone contract and do not have an unlimited plan yet. I only sync at home on my own wifi connection. For me this is not a problem, because I only need to refresh the weather each morning to see what the day is going to be like. Twitter I only do when I have the time. Stocks I do not use.
I have screen brightness set to automatic.
I am on 3G most of the time.
I am running the official 1.66 Dutch ROM.
I have some tweaks, games and programs installed.
I hope you all solve this issue, because it just can not be that my HD2 has a good battery life, and your HD2 not
Kind Regards
EDIT @ 17:00 still 87%.
I am in a 3G 2100 only network (I don't have 2G functionality).
ROM: Artemis 3.0
Radio: 2.06.50.23_3
Customization: Seiya 6.5.5
I don't leave any automatic updates on, except for my e-mail account every 2 hrs.
I never close my connection.
The drainage overnight is -3% (8hrs).
The battery lasts at least 12 hrs of intense usage.
Normally I have to recharge every second day (e.g. I charged last night, I answered a few calls, I did some IM and browsing and I still have 73% left).
For a phone with a 1 GHz processor, a 4.3" screen and a tiny 1250 mAh battery I find the drainage is rather decent.
Mind you, I ALWAYS do at least one full charging cycle to my battery after flashing a new ROM. I mean: full discharge, battery out 1 min, full charging in OFF mode, battery out 2 mins.

I have seen this process recommended a couple of times now. What is the theory behind it if you don't mind me asking?
maybe its also becouse some of us couldnt wait using the hd2 when they got it (like me) before it was fully charged for the first time
anyway my battery life has improved a little bit, i was at 74% this morning and did a lot of browsing, installing, tweaking and now its at 3%. it used to be much worse
I have battery consuming problem from time to time.I did everything:
installed new stock rom 1.66;
transfered all data which phone is using from card to phone memory(pictures,icons,sounds.etc...)
all updates are done manually;
Gprs connection is swiched off on the idle after one min;
One night it is loosing from 2 to 4%;
another from 30 to 40%
and it is eating memory from 10 to 15mb
I think that it is radio which is causing battery drainage so fast(to much communication wit a base stations, because when I am checking spb wireless monitor in the morning, there is no any data traffic.
I hope they can solve problem, because it is getting me mad and crazy
Try setting the screen brightness to 10-20% (on battery powered)
and dim backlight after 10 seconds (on batter powered).
It helps a lot, at least for me.

as far as i know, the battery has an integrated digital circuit (ic) which estimates the state-of-charge (soc). the procedure resets/calibrates the ic to obtain a more accurate estimation. since the radio rom is in charge with the power management (among other things), by changing it you decalibrate the "gauge".
i don't know if i've got the theory right but i tested this myself and it surely works.

Battery charge too short?

Hello, Im noticing that the battery charge is too short.
I disconnected it from the computer (battery at 100%) at 23:00. Inmediately put it on fly mode (all services disconnected, low battery consumption). When I wake up at 9 o'clock, the battery was like 60% (and disconnected fly mode). Now, at 11, the battery is like 40%...
Yay, I usually charge it every night... I don't want to charge it twice/day.
I don't know if trophy have now battery problems or is just wp7.
Anyone with the same problem?
If you just got your phone, I think the battery was not run in yet. I have the same problem for the first 3 charge. Now battery life is slightly better than my old omnia 2 which last me 12-14 hours as I am a heavy user.
It have like 15 charges. It usually takes longer to uncharge, but not today, I will test it more days.
Thanks for you reply.
Sounds like there could be something wrong with it. Mine is a lot better than the HD2. I'm not a heavy user, but I get like an hour of music/radio on the way to work, then a few calls and SMSs during the day, an hour of music/radio on the way home - and it's still on like 70% when I set it to charge before bed time.
Update: seems location services cut the battery life in half. MS needs to do something about it to make it more efficient.
battery ??
How can i check how many % of my battery left
I've charged my Trophy about 4 times and the last time i overcharged just like in formating a battery ( i know the bqattery in Trophy doesn't require it but I can't hurt can it??).
The last time I charged it was on the new years eve just before midnight between 22-23. Now the battery has been showing the "critical battery mode" thingy for about two hours. I admit that I am not a heavy user however per day I make couple of phone calls, I make a few SMS and use the 3G mobile network/ WiFi(if available) to check internet write a mail, Facebook etc. and about 30 minutes / per day of music...( need to say that I don;t use the standard phones which came out of the box but Seenheiser 515HD model )
I have set the 3G and mobile data etc off, the brightness level to automatic, set the theme to dark etc. to save the battery as much as I can.
