Hey guys, I installed the energy rom on my HTC TOUCH HD months ago, and haven't really had any problems. Anyway, last week I got a warning that my trial will expire on May 1st. I didn't really think much of it, but at May 1st, my phone just says I need to visit the website I got my trial release form and get the latest version.
Anyway, I'm asking what I have to do? Should I just install a new ROM? If I do, I've been looking around and the Android rom looks appealiong, but I was just wondering if anyone could offer me the best rom that won't expire that just makes my HTC TOUCH HD damn amazing and easy to use?
Thanks alot!!

hi guys, im new to the world of pdas/smartphones and have recently purchased an alpine (o2 xdaIIi) that should arrive tomorrow so i've been looking at upgrading before i start putting info onto it and wiping it in the process.
i've read as much as i can take in over the past couple of days about upgrading the software before posting anything too stupid.
my question is, out of the two rom updates i have managed to find active links for which would you recommend as the most stable?
alpine-1.11.171-radio-1.04-bluetooth-patched-camera-fixed.rar
Alpine_Ext-1.11.162_Radio-1.04_O2stuffstripped_Camera_Fixed.rar
personally i dont really mind if it has the 02 stuff on it or not as i'm with that provider anyway, going on version numbers i would say the first one would APPEAR to be the one to go for but experience tells me newer isn't always better. i appreciate any input from senior members.

Touch by HTC, so yes
Update
How and when can i update my device???
How: Via USB ... Ok ok, I think it will be same way we do now with the ROM upgrade utility, but probably packaged in some installer like most of the official upgrades.
When: 6.1 just got announced, its up to HTC and the mobile operators to decide when they release an upgrade.

Ok, but is the releasing date soon or ...???
I think OR. I don't think that HTC can release official update for all devices in one week. Month. I think

Nobody is really sure, read the post of N_urk, maybe read it twice. There is some info in there.
At Least I'm Running Custom Rom with WM 6.1 Pro already =D
custom cooked roms
Hi all,
I just bought a touch 1 gen ... i heard from a friend that it'll take awhile because HTC has a tendency to release it after they have marketed all their new 6.1 loaded devices ... i guess its their marketing strategy
meanwhile, can anyone tell me any interesting 6.1 Roms i can look at ... thanks.
lud
Wait wait wait......so we who own HTC Touch (GSM) have to wait for HTC to ship out the update? We just can't.....update?
Paul
wm 6.1 update
wow .. so basically the update wont be coming for a while ... does anybody know if the 6.1 roms are even worth putting on the device??
Doesn't seem like there's much in the 6.1 upgrade for WM-Pro users though, most changes are in the smartphone version.
I have it too
I use the customer WM6.1 Pro for HTC Touch, and I like it.. there ar a lot of flavors: lite and full, with more (or less) free ram for othr apps, etc.
http://www.comunidadwindowsmobile.es/index.php?action=forum
Whats the difference(s) between WM6 Pro and WM 6.1 anyway? I've done some reading on it but no where does it really say whats so different. I've even gone and looked at videos of it on youtube. Other then what looks like a new skin theme doesnt look like anything else really and I am sure theres more to it. Do you have finger gestures now built right into HTC home? Like swiping left to get to your schedual and what not? What about the HTC home... is that any different?
Here's what I've gotten so far:
Threaded SMS messages
New Internet Explorer
Runs a little smoother
But... whats the big WOW with the upgrade?
Thanks!
ok wm6.1 was in beta for awhile i think it still is but it has since been perfected and is released... but the only way to get it right now is using the customn roms which is way better then using any other rom found any where else trust me ive tried them all and cutoms the way to go!!
and the big wow is the fixed all the bugs in it the stopped the memory leak increased speed. made tit very stable, reduced the size of the os system it self also the did many different registery hacks and edits to make it much better, they added a prgram that is called getting started which helps with alot of stuf and it isnt just a step by step its a good program,
theres no new gestures like that but theres many programs that do that that can be added on such as spb shell 2.0 umm pointui and ultimate lauinch.... trust me its worth upgrading and ive had every system out there wm5.0 symbian wm6.0 and now 6.1 and now im working on making a wm7 like program but using 6.1 as a base
HTC WM 6.1
I have contacted hTC, the WM 6.1 update is not available yet, they are still working out the errors etc. but in a while, they would release the update.
check back http://www.asia.htc.com/asia/hk/index.html

I`m sorry for the offtopic.
ok guys and gals I hope all have had a good festive period!!
here’s my question, I have just been offered a free upgrade by orange uk to the htc touch hd, I currently have the htc diamond.
it has been my first WM phone and I must say I am true convert. I have been looking longley with envy at the htc touch hd and I am defo going to own one; but with it being so new to the market I was wondering if any else has done the upgrade and wished they had waited a bit longer for a more stable product.
as i'm not that experienced at putting on ROMs does the one shipped with the orange branded phone work well??
or should i wait untill orange bring a 2nd Rom like they did with the diamond and untill android is fully working on the phone??
thanks for any advice given!!
I think shipped Roms aren't good (enough) at all. I like the possibility to flash another rom, whenever I want to.
So I would not put any stress on the shipped rom, there are already so many great cooked roms out there, so that is really no problem.
Flashing a cooked rom isn't a problem, it takes 10 minutes, if you know what to do, else you will have to read through the wiki, but it is really managable.
so does any one have any views on if the upgrade from the touch diamond to the touch hd is it worth it right now, or is it better to hang fire for a while untill the android os and a good offical rom from orange is out??
I still have the standard htc rom on my HD, version 1.14 and it is stable as can be, I don't feel any need to flash it. All you need to do is make a few tweaks and I'm sure you'll be satisfied with it. My HD somehow feels a little bit faster than a diamond, eventhough they have the same hardware inside and might I say inspite of the higher resolutions screen.
Given the choice I would pick the HD over the diamond any day, the extra big screen is well worth the price premium you pay over a diamond

I too find 1.14 to be faster than most cooked ROMs. Perhaps 1.14 is faster than 1.19.

hello everyone!
i'm also offered an upgrade from my old nokia n95, but i'm a little hesitant as i already have an htc touch diamond on another contract with orange. will it be practical to own both the htc touch diamond and the touch hd? i was initially eyeing the samsung omnia but it will cost me over £100 on my current tariff, whereas they can give me the touch hd for free. i've been having this "dilemma" for like a month now and im still undecided. anyone who can give me their views, i'd be grateful.
I have been following the HD2 for some time now and with my contract due for newel on the 21st of January I know what I want and where I am getting it from.
I have had a chance to play with it a bit but now am looking for a bit of feedback regarding the ROM Version - the ROM I saw on the deviced was 1.48 is this one past some of the problems I have been reading about - I know there are patches and I am fine to do them. I will be upgrading via Phones4u and hoping that I will not run in to some of the problems people are encountering with downloading the latest updates from HTC that need a SN - I will be on the Vodafone network.
Any heads up regarding this ROM and problems would be very helpfull..
Thanks
Scott
Well I got mine on Xmas day and it came with 1.48. Have not had a single problem with the rom so far.
I have been undertaking some careful setup, eg installing Memmaid to clear out memory and sort out lockups, then installing a whole host of tweaks either from the thread here and/or by using BSB Tweaks, a marvellous tool also found on here.
When installing software I have done this one at a time then made a backup of the device, ran the software to make sure everything is ok before moving on and repeating the steps.
Sounds tedious but this way ,if there is a ****-up, I can easily roll back to the previous working point with minimum hassle.
If you are happy with the device and the keyboard does not phase you then life's too short- go for it!
Bear in mind that in the worst case HTC should be bringing out a revised rom soon (he hopes).
Hope this is helpful.
WB
Thanks for the feedback. I am so going to have this phone next month and am liking the advice about installing and taking the time to get it right. I will look at the pieces of software you have mentioned. Really appreciate the input -
Like you I am hoping that HTC will be bringing out ROM updates regularly and soon - I have read about 2.1 version being tested in the states on T-Mobile lets hope that we will see that soon.
Have you applied any of the official HTC patches to date?
Scott
No not applied any of the patches as I have not experienced any of the problems that the patches are meant to solve.
I am using ROM version 1-48. I am a very strong believer in the maxim that if it ain't broke don't f****** fix it!
WB
Hi,
I think with any new device there will always be teething problems and from what I've read here; the HD2 is no exception.
This is my third HTC device and each one of them have had their own little idiosyncrasies. However most of these were not apparent to me until they were pointed out :/
The main reason why I have chosen to get another HTC is because of this site and others like it. As soon as a fault is found, there's usuallly a fix around the corner.
So, with regards to your question about the ROM 1.48, I wouldn't worry, as as soon as the HSPL (?) is released, you'll be able to flash whatever ROM the chef's cook up Also I think with SSPL you can install custom ROMs now.
This will be my first HTC device - I am looking forward to having a touch screen phone that is not an iphone. The HD2 looks to be the business.
I reckon I will be okay if I encounter any problems I know where my first port of call will be...I have already learned so much just trowling the forum.
What is HSPL?
I agree with wacky's thoughts about if is not broken
Thanks for your input.
Scott
re hspl, have a look at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589642
hspl in a nutshell is a hack to allow you to install custom roms. they're almost got it ready for release. discussions about the hspl and speculation about its release can be quite entertaining.
When HTC releases a patch for the HD2 are they cumlative or do you need to apply each patch sepratley?
Scott
Most of the time you have to install each one. If thats not the case its specifed in the description.
Thanks for that - I also enjoyed reading your HD2 review. I have been following this now since I started to sruface on the internet so long ago and have been reading all of the reveiws, both good and bad. I only have 12 days to go before I can upgrade and cannot wait!
