Touch by HTC, so yes
Update
How and when can i update my device???
How: Via USB ... Ok ok, I think it will be same way we do now with the ROM upgrade utility, but probably packaged in some installer like most of the official upgrades.
When: 6.1 just got announced, its up to HTC and the mobile operators to decide when they release an upgrade.

I think OR. I don't think that HTC can release official update for all devices in one week. Month. I think

At Least I'm Running Custom Rom with WM 6.1 Pro already =D
custom cooked roms
Hi all,
I just bought a touch 1 gen ... i heard from a friend that it'll take awhile because HTC has a tendency to release it after they have marketed all their new 6.1 loaded devices ... i guess its their marketing strategy
meanwhile, can anyone tell me any interesting 6.1 Roms i can look at ... thanks.
lud
Wait wait wait......so we who own HTC Touch (GSM) have to wait for HTC to ship out the update? We just can't.....update?
Paul
wm 6.1 update
wow .. so basically the update wont be coming for a while ... does anybody know if the 6.1 roms are even worth putting on the device??
Doesn't seem like there's much in the 6.1 upgrade for WM-Pro users though, most changes are in the smartphone version.
I have it too
I use the customer WM6.1 Pro for HTC Touch, and I like it.. there ar a lot of flavors: lite and full, with more (or less) free ram for othr apps, etc.
http://www.comunidadwindowsmobile.es/index.php?action=forum
Whats the difference(s) between WM6 Pro and WM 6.1 anyway? I've done some reading on it but no where does it really say whats so different. I've even gone and looked at videos of it on youtube. Other then what looks like a new skin theme doesnt look like anything else really and I am sure theres more to it. Do you have finger gestures now built right into HTC home? Like swiping left to get to your schedual and what not? What about the HTC home... is that any different?
Here's what I've gotten so far:
Threaded SMS messages
New Internet Explorer
Runs a little smoother
But... whats the big WOW with the upgrade?
Thanks!
ok wm6.1 was in beta for awhile i think it still is but it has since been perfected and is released... but the only way to get it right now is using the customn roms which is way better then using any other rom found any where else trust me ive tried them all and cutoms the way to go!!
and the big wow is the fixed all the bugs in it the stopped the memory leak increased speed. made tit very stable, reduced the size of the os system it self also the did many different registery hacks and edits to make it much better, they added a prgram that is called getting started which helps with alot of stuf and it isnt just a step by step its a good program,
theres no new gestures like that but theres many programs that do that that can be added on such as spb shell 2.0 umm pointui and ultimate lauinch.... trust me its worth upgrading and ive had every system out there wm5.0 symbian wm6.0 and now 6.1 and now im working on making a wm7 like program but using 6.1 as a base
HTC WM 6.1
I have contacted hTC, the WM 6.1 update is not available yet, they are still working out the errors etc. but in a while, they would release the update.
check back http://www.asia.htc.com/asia/hk/index.html
I just leave a sign here so i can easily find it when there is updates.
Also cant just some forum member coock fimmware with all features of HTC for our HTC Touch Elf?

... do you, the devs of xda developers think it is feisable to run a WM 6.5 ROM at optimum performance on a Touch HD? Okay so we dont have the dedicated Windows Key, but surely we have the spec to run things such as the honeycomb
why ? Where told HTC to not suppport HTC Touch HD any further ?
hans
Did they? how silly of them.
dontworry key mapping is trivial
So, any links to back up that HTC won't release a updated rom?
link #1 - MS statement
"no devices in the market today will receive official 6.5 updates"
link #2 - HTC statement
"customers of the Touch Pro2 and Touch Diamond2 will get 6.5 upgrades for free"
So forget about official upgrade for out Blackstone..
So that means no WM6.5 with right updates for us huh?
No. To be honest, why should they? It's a major upgrade, and would cost HTC money to implement.
Bug fixes we are entitled to, not a new OS.
sorry to say
this has always been the same with WM.....
GET USED TO IT
Well I can't say that I'm particulary bothered about missing out on a free official upgrade to 6.5. From what I've seen so far Microsoft have just done what we've all be doing for some time now, that is making the OS more 'finger friendly'. I'm quite content with my HD now after installing some apps and tweaks to achieve this. Most from the pages of this wonderful forum.
And as for the honeycomb style today page.....they can keep it. Ugly!
To be honest why bother with 6.5 !!! Like all recent upgrades from MS it is just eye candy and nothing more...... Nothing radical or new just a knock off of the eye phone... The HTC Touch screen is more novel than MS....... Be nice if they innovated.....
Im not so bothered on the today section its the better finger menus i think will be good.
I think WM 6.5 looks great and IS A MUST for the Touch HD.
I also think it is absolutely customer ... off giving not wm 6.5 as a update - its ok to take money for it.
As you XDAlers always complain about apple - look at them - they improve the OS every 3 month and give new features and bug fiexes.
We with our nice HTC gadgets don-t get updates or new features.
I have my htc touch hd and love it, but the software is a hell of sloe any you can write as much as you want - WinMo 6.1 ist fuc... slow.
Take the G1 and see what the hardware is capable

They have to. OS X Mobile does not have proper Bluetooth support, multitasking support, MMS support, copy&paste support, etc., so most advanced user are really angry.
Windows Mobile, on the other hand, is mature OS. There is not much reason to upgrade from Win Mobile 6.1 to 6.5.
I've already talked with the manager of the distributor (father of a friend) here in my country before I bought the phone. They really said that they will not give updates to get the 6.5. but if xda-devs can make a rom out of it, it still wont be official. Hopefully MS solves the auto answer call when taking out the phone, i hate using s2u2 cuz there are sometimes delay and wastes a couple of rings (caller side)
Come on guys. 6.5 ? Honeycomb interface and that is about it, right ? Who cares since most of advanced users use 3rd-party UI anyway. It has FingerMenu version too and IE 6, but they are already here on HD
And since Diamond2/Pro2 will have 6.5 - HD will have it too. May be not officially, but ...
Listen ... I had HTC Wizard with WM5, which had never been officially upgraded. Did not stop me from have it with WM6.1 Pretty sure even Wizard will have 6.5, why not HD ? Dont worry about it.
is the ui all that 6.5 will bring? no additional backend features/settings?
Till yesterday i wanted WM6.5 in HD badly... actually, i still want it.
But now what i really really really want is the new TF3D
Jesus. Are only novice users writing here You want WinMo 6.5 Head over to the ROM section of THIS forum and you will get at least 2 WinMo 6.5 ROM's TODAY They are with early BETA versions of the OS, so you can see things others will MAYBE see in 7-8 months. That's the really cool thing about HTC devices. You always get the good stuff first
On the other hand...HTC actually offers WinMo ugrades for premium phones. Many WinMo 5 phones (including my old Artemis) got an official WinMo 6 upgrade and my Polaris recieved WinMo 6.1 as did the Kaiser, HTC Touch etc.
So stop complaining. The VERY first WimMo 6.5 ALPHA leaked for the...Blue Angel. For those not knowing this great device: The Blue Angel is shipped originaly with WinMo 2003 (not even SE) and is 5 years old.
Here see a Video people demonstrating WM 6.5
http://video.golem.de/handy/1860/windows-mobile-6.5-mobile-world-congress-2009.html
Its not so well performing, as I hoped, maybe it'll get better.
Just as the title says. As Microsoft has just release Windows Mobile 6.5 is there any hope that we will get the improved UI to the Polaris?
May HTC even step up to the task themselves? They released 6.0 for a lot of 5.0 phones...
Or are there still cooks active on doing Polaris roms?

I really do not know what the strategy is with launching 2 WM versions in such a short span of time. May be MS was just paranoid of losing market share to iPhone and Google - so it launched a band-aid solution until WM7 is launched?
Any attempt at 6.5 now is mainly for some chef to try and be all cool and be the first one to come out with 6.5 rom. I've tried it, and see no point in releasing something like this as it's buggy (beta) and in all truthfulness, 6.1 w/tf2d is better than 6.5 homescreen. The whole honeycomb screen is quite a waste of screenspace as well. It's all quite the gimick to me, and people would probably end up going back to another rom after a week of using a 6.5 beta rom anyways. The only good thing about 6.5 is the revamped IE.

being the first isn't all that bad i think...would you have some of the things you have now if someone didn't take the 1st step? think not!
yes, you are right, releasing such a rom is still very early, some have, and thanks to them people Now can taste a bit of the Future (some forget its very beta, so lots of bugs)...
i have to desagree, sorry , when you say...only good thing about 6.5 is IE...i would say more...who needs IE? haven't used it since i've had my device...opera or any other good browser (opera mini) is the way to go...
pc experience tells us so
now here are some of my findings...
the new homescreen has lots of potencial...its light and fast...got all the info one needs and only 45% of 101MB of RAM is used...plus it will be customizable (till its limit)...
there is more speed in the wm6.5 rom...or lets say less lagging in some areas...scrolls faster, i see that when i scroll my 4gb memory card using standard explorer...had to disable touchflo cause it was slowing the device down...
skinning of controls will bring a very nice add to customization...i personaly like that...plus they are more thumb friendly...
honeycomb wastes space "as is" but i have already rearranged it in multiple ways (X:Y; 4:Y; 1:Y just to name a few), i dont like it much but its okay...
only major problem here is its current speed that i hope will be better in final release...
its seems a good step ahead...one good thing...i haven't had that "oh, this is so slow" phrase yet as the (programs folder) is not there anymore...so no more laggy icon update...that is always nice...i have a nice fix for that (youtube) but now i will not put it out since 6.5 is comming so its delayed till further notice
there is also a very nice lockscreen too...
lets just see where this goes...
keep up the good work...

Sorry, didn't see your posts above that you were releasing a 6.5 rom. Hopefully with tweaks by someone knowledgable, the beta will be closer to decent. And you make good points that maybe more than just IE is good, but I'd still rather wait to base a rom on official 6.5

(Experience from using TOuch-IT 4.5)
1) Yes - it's less pretty but it's loads faster
2) Yes - it loads faster, switches b/w options, has autoflash (yes! finally!), gps pics (don't care)
3) Game is cool.
4) Dunno. Growing panel is cool but gimmicky.
5) Yes, it's faster, has a radio, but it's a memory hog + I'd rather use S2P/S2V.
6) New KB is quite nice, better than EzInput imho. Real plus 4 me. is the Next Word Prediction, v. useful.
7) YES! I moved from R1A => Touch-IT 4.5 (based on R3A) and speed diff is amazing. Screen rotation is almost instant in any app, S2P is actually smooth now. Some jerkiness here and there but much better than R1A.

It's about thinking logically. What's the benefit for SE if they released it? You can always buy or "organize" WM 6.5 once it's out and installit on your device. Probably half the things won't work anymore, so you'll have to find fixes, copy DLLs and so on. Many customers won't realize a big difference between 6.5 and 6.1. The costs for SE would be too big. Furthermore, the old devices with 6.1 wouldn't sell anymore.

sony could but wont as 6.5 comes out around the time i and many expect a new x model (sony would rather u buy that).
also sony has never upgraded to a new os version on a phone (as far as i know) and i did hope that my w960i would of got a upgrade but it never happened.
its the same as hoping that microsoft gives u a free upgrade to windows 7 from vista.
Yes, I absolutely agree! That is the way it is! We don't get anything in addition from SE after we bought it!

If you actually brick the phone it means you cannot use it ever, won't even turn on i.e. its as much use as a brick!! All you can do is return it.
Are you experiencing problems with your phone? Or are you just worried that you may brick phone if you flash to new rom?
If latter follow cRaCKwHoRe's guide in my signature and you'll be fine. As long as you use USPL or HSPL I'm 99.99% sure you won't brick phone.

you are fortunate to have escaped out then!
You generally have to do something pretty dumb to brick your phone to get it into a non-usable state. Most things you'll be able to do with standard flashing tools is bung up a firmware upgrade ( and you start again ). The chances of blowing away the boot loader, are smaller - but if you follow the instructions and don't pull the cable out while its doing stuff, then you'll have no worries.
for me, 6.5 flys and I'll not be going back now to 6.1 i fear. I use minimal ROMS where available as I never use facebook and half the other crap that bloats most of them.
I went back and forth quite alot between 6.1 and 6.5 and finally settled on 6.5 after much personal testing I find 6.5 to be better/perhaps faster and even sharper, clearer screen shots of everything especially noticable in emails. I'll be stickin' with 6.5. Don't care much for the wm default titanium thing tho...jmo
I've had 6.5 for a few months (fast & stable) and don't plan to go backword to 6.1!

Just curious, but why wouldn't they? Is it their way of forcing the common users to upgrade to a newer device, then that makes sense from a business perspective on their part. Common users being the average joe's/janes who do not know about xda's wonderful chefs. I mean it's not like we haven't been sampling the 6.5 os already anyway with more, better goodies to come.

Aside from encouraging you to upgrade to the new shiny model (which is the main driver), manufacturers have to pay licensing costs to Microsoft for each version of WM (just as you would for a desktop Windows upgrade). So it would cost them money to make it available retrospectively for existing phones when they have already paid for the 6.1 licence. It was made fairly clear by HTC and most other manufacturers that 6.5 would only be made available with newly released devices after the WM6.5 launch.

Even if we already use WM6.5 because the great cooks on this forum have provided us with it - it still makes sense for HTC not to offer official upgrades for two reasons:
1. With no official upgrades, we void our warrenty using cooked ROMs. In a worst case scenario they could refuse any support on a damaged item running 6.5.
2. They don't have to offer any support (online, mail, website) for 6.5.
EDIT: For proof of number 1, read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3907598&postcount=5

Well, not to be picky, there are stable (lifting off the cover every 30 minutes) and there are stable (using the reset software once or twice a day). Yes, even for beta which is what they all are. I know which stable even you will choose.
any chance to get it working on rhodium??
see the video...
http://www.macitynet.it/macity/aA38603/htc_hero_arriva_il_terzo_android_con_nuova_interfaccia.shtml
Nice interface, but I think it's a very long way off any hope of being ported for the Rhodium, and thats if anyone sees it as a great advantage. It would be a massive project.
Seems to be largely based on TF3D, just remoulded, and probably re-engineered. Looks a lot smoother, but then again it's only a video and they can make it look as smooth as they like! Certainly has all the trademarks of a HTC interface though....like a cross between TF3D and PointUI.
When is this device out anyway? It would be typical of HTC to announce a new one, only weeks after we've all forked out for our Rhodiums!
here's hoping HTC bundle something similar with their 6.5 update for the rhodium!
We shouldn't need to port it.
In a press release HTC have stated that the Sense UI will be rolled out across all HTC handsets, regardless of OS.

i hope so...but knowing htc i think the new interface will be available for new devices (devices released after the HTC Hero...)...i hope im wrong...
I don't think so, they have promised upgrades to 6.5 for diamond 2 and touch pro 2 owners (as part of the sales blurb) and i imagine this is their big push at doing something different, creating a consistent user interface throughout their range regardless of OS.
I think they really want to dominate and they're certainly doing a good job so far.
Now if only I could get flash working with the default browser...

yeah, I have checked it but it also say that it will be available on all new HTC devices moving forward this takes TP2 out of the loop as it is older. Unless they will plan it for the promised WM6.5 version ..
Either way if it's coming to newer devices I'm sure the geniuses here can work out a way to get it running on the TP2 without much effort
this Hero (HTC Sense) really really adorable
Tried android with Raphael, i love the new OS experience

Looks like a big improvement over TF3D.
Hopefully we'll get this in the official 6.5 upgrade...

Apparently this works but it's slower than the TF3D
