[ASK] About "Black Circle" Beside The LED. X10i - XPERIA X10 General

I've New X10i....
and i feel so confused when I looked the "black circle" beside the LED...
anyone know what's the functions of the "black circle" beside LED?
and how to check the "black circle" work normal?
someone told me, that's "distance sensor"...
but i don't know what's the functions of "distance sensor", and how to check it, if the distance sensor work normally....
thx

I disable the touch screen when you put the phone to your face, to try it, make a call, cover the "hole", if the touch screen is disabled, then it's working fine

ow okay, i'll try it...
Yeah I see, the name is "Proximity Sensor"...
Same Functions With my last HTC Touch Pro 2....
but, in HTC Touch Pro 2, when I made some call, The Screen Blank....
in X10i, The screen disable....
okay I'll try it....
any setting for this?disable or enable the proximity sensor?

Yea, it all started from the iphone, however, no phone ever give you the setting for it, and the x10 is no exception
oh, and yes it only disable the touch screen, not turn it off

You can also test it through the "Services" menu: accessible by pressing the following sequence on the hard keys while on the unlock screen:
menu > back > back > menu > back > menu > menu > back
Then go to "Service Tests" and scroll down to "Proximity Switch".
In the test, you'll notice that if you cover the sensor between the earpiece and the LED, it recognizes that.
...
On a related note, the Accelerometer test shows how ridiculously sensitive the accelerometer actually is.

Phone Screenlock as IPhone

Hi,
I have a Hermes, Niki phones
I miss a function found in IPhone "a sensor to lock the screen when you make an aproximity to the ear"
When you make a Phone call or Get incoming call and you move the phone near your ear, the Iphone screen get's dark so there is not unwanted "touch" of icons of the phone, Iphone has a proximity sensor check..
Right now I'm using an application "Phone Screen Lock From Palmaysoft" it works ok, but it's lock the screen just when the partner get's the call.. it's ok, but sometime there is enought time for unwanted touch with the "face" to an icon on the screen
Is there some other way to emulate a Iphone sensor (maybe with the front camera) or get the screen lock just after pushing the "green " button of the phone?
Any Idea??
Thanks!
You can get the screenlock by tapping the power button during a call.
...or using S2U2.

Thanks for that helpful post.
OP, I don't think you'll have any other option. S2U2 has the ability to automatically turns off the screen when the phone call connects, which seems to be exactly the same function as the "Phone Screen Lock From Palmaysoft" mentioned.
I once had an application on my Herald back in the WM5 days. Don't know the name but as soon as i answer the call, the screen turns off.
I believe it was something with Black Call or something.. don't know.
When im back @ home i'll search through my PC to see if i still got it.
I'll let you know!

I suffered with the same problem on my Touch. S2U2 is the best solution. It works perfectly in solving this problem, when you choose the option to black the screen when a call connects. Give it a try - you will love it.

Yep...I totally agree.
A_C made an excelent (killer) program.
proximity sensor
I have s2u2. but my issue is that when another call or text comes thru the phone stays lit. therefore, i hit buttons with my face/earrings.
is there a way i can get around that part of the s2u2.
or is there some sort of program that could be similar to the proximity sensor on the iphone.
of all things in comparison...this is what i like best about the iphone.
thanks
...accidental hanguppper......
search for "lock csdevctrl" - this do the job almost perfectly for me.
and the devel is really brilliant and is ready to make wanted changes really fast.

I use PalmarySoft's Phonescreenlock program and I love it... Does exactly what your asking for..

Where is virtual protective shade?

Hi guys,
During the call I’m setting off bunch of application by accident. The manual says it suppose to be a virtual protective shade over the buttons and only “keypad” and “End Call” should be accessible. But in fact anything I touch is working. What to use to disable all buttons during the call?
Thanks
P.S. installed apps:
Duttys task manager 2.1.1
Montecristoff HD2Tweaks
TC
Cookies home tab 1.7
chainfire 3d driver patch

I see the small holes/sensors left to the LED. What do they do? How do they block the keys?
on other hand maybe i disabled something in HD2Tweaks and it can be restored back?
Thanks
the proximity sensor will know when the phone is to your face during a call and turn the screen off. make a call and put ur finger over the sensor see if the screen turns off
sensors
One is light sensor to brighthen or dim screen, the other is proximity sensor to turn off screen during call, so you don't touch any with cheek,or ear.

There's a sensor thats suppose to turn your phone screen off when you put it close to your face. Do you have anything blocking the sensor next to the ear speaker? or maybe a cheap screen protector going over the sensor. I've also heard long hair can mess up the sensor if you don't push it behind your ear before putting the phone up to the ear.(Don't understand how that would effect it, though) Or did you change any settings that effect the proximity sensor?
I've never heard of a "virtual protection shade"... where did you read about that?

During a call
When a call is in progress, a shade covers the Phone dialer’s onscreen buttons to prevent accidental taps. Only the Keypad and End Call buttons are active.
To access the onscreen buttons, slide your finger down, starting from the top of the shade. Use these onscreen buttons to put a call on hold, dial another contact for a phone conference, enter notes about the conversation, and more.

x10 screen wont turn off in-call

I always seem to touch the "end call" button with my cheek when I'm calling someone since my god damn screen wont turn off when I'm in-call.
Anyone else experienced this ?
depends on my experiences, the screen turn off when u r in call after (5-10 sec) coz the sensor of screen in covered thought in call just in foryo 2.2 the screen turn off directly( this sensor located in the upper right corner of screen in x10
So if your screen not turn off all the time when in call is active ,so you need to check the sensor it's work or not
i think the is software to check all the sensor and bluetooth,wifi....etc named benchmark in the market try to download it but first check ur screen after 10sec when u r in call and check the sitting ok
Hi - The proximity sensor disables the screen - you can test that it's working by going into the service menu and checking it.. it's Menu, Back, Back, Menu, Back, Menu, Menu, Back.. Then go into the service tests menu and check if it works... if it's working in there, then I suspect that you may be using a task killer and it's interfering with the workings of your phone.. ditch the task killer, it's a waste of resources anyway..
I have this problem as well & I know the sensor is working because I went into test mode & ran the test. I have no task killers installed & the screen stays on during a call. The screen shuts off at the set screen timeout interval but the sensor doesn't seem to do anything, except in the test mode.
On other phones like the N1 & IPhone 3GS if you cover up the sensor the screen will shut off but with the X10 it stays on.
I have this problem to! If anybody knows something please tell us.
Me too, may because Firmware bug?

no this sensor responsible to check in call and turn off screen but i guess there is problem in firmware (BUGS) coz if there screen not turn off the battery will drain via (2-3)H of call !!! not possible
The sensor disables the screen ...
It doesn't turn it off. Your screen will turn off after your normal screen time out.
Easy to test, ring someone then cover the sensor with your finger and try pressing end call. It is locked so won't end the call. Remove your finger and press the end call. Call ends!
Your right!!!
Strange way to do things IMO because it's a waste of battery leaving the screen on. I still think the sensor software is buggy because I've been in calls where I accidentally hit end call with my face .

WP7 Omnia 7 Accelerometer Possible Fix

This is for Samsung Omnia 7 if you have used the Diag app/code to mess about with the settings. I had screwed my rotation by changing some settings. Tried a reset via code but that didn't work. In the end I used code *#2580# to enter integrity control and ensured it was at '1' (on), then use code *#0*# to enter LCD test, lay the phone flat and press the 'CAL' button. It returned 'true' and now my accelerometer works again.
Hope this is actually a fix and it helps someone out. I have noticed a few people lost the rotation on their Omnia 7's. This will probably work for Samsung Focus too. If this does fix your problem let us all know so this can help others too.
Yep - that CAL is calibrate, I imagine. You can also do it with the "Level" application from Microsoft (spirit level thing) if you don't fancy the diag codes.
Diagnostics / Accelerometer (+ fix)
Yes, if you play around in the diagnostics - BE CAREFUL!
To enter diagnostics on your Samsung (confirmed for Omnia 7) enter ##634# and press "call"
Then type the following for the following services:
*#0*# Various diagnostic settings incl accelerometer, compass, screen colour
*#2*# Detailed battery info (incl. charge to nearest 1%)
*#3*# Screen brightness
Be carefull if you choose to calebrate the accelerometer as it will muck up your auto rotation if the phone is incorrectly positioned.
To reset the rotation do the following:
- Ensure the yellow flowers picture is upright (aligned with the flowers towards the top of the phone)
- Lay the phone down on a true horizontal flat surface (XYZ values do not matter for this) ensuring the flowers remain upright
- Touch the "Cal" button. If you get "True Return" you have reset. If "false", try again in slightly different positions until it works.

Thank you !
I am currently experience another issue since I launched that app.
The start button doesn't turn on the display anymore,
maybe I'm getting crazy but I think holding that button was indeed turning the display on.
Actually I did miss my calibration but thanks to your help, I fixed,
do you think the Start button issue could be related to that tool as well ?
Thank you
Would this solve the slow auto rotation of the UI?
I had the HD7 and the auto rotation on the Omnia seems to damn slower and less responive than it was on the HD7

I have the exact same problem for a few days now, don't remember what could have been the setting for it.
Start button doesn't turn on the display anymore. I want that back! How can I get the start button to default?
Thx.
I have just reset my phone to factory defaults : Parameters, About, Reset ...
Notice that resetting will erase everything, I've lost my IE favorites by the way ...
Everything is back, Start button as well ...
In fact I did play too much with the settings, it was turning the screen off
as soon as I was making a call, the only way to turn it back on was the called one to end the call ...
Tried to fix (lol) proximity and lights settings but nothing ...
I think I'll just leave the Diagnostics app. for now, too dangerous
there seems to be an option to do that as well from the app.
But will it erase your data ? I don't know ...

My proximity sensor went crazy too. The fix is to go to diagnostics mode (google for it) and register a bit larger proximity value as a default. I used my hand to block the sensor. On my phone the absolute minimum seemed to be 3, which made the phone unusable. Something in the range of 10-20 seemed to be the most useful compromise. You may need to experiment a bit to get a suitable value. This way you don't have to reset the entire phone.
I still wonder what the default proximity value is... if anyone knows, please reply.
I have Samsung Focus 1.3 Mango 7720, but i don't see "cal" in the settings of the Proximity?
can you help?
Thanks

Proximity and light sensor issues

For the last 2 or 3 months I've noticed my proximity and light sensor don't work on my Focus 1.3.
The screen doesn't turn off while on a call and the camera button can wake the phone with the screen turned off.
I've also seen that the screen doesn't auto dim any longer when in a dark room.
I held off on doing the warranty swap with ATT because I thought Mango might fix it but I haven't had any luck.
Do you have any suggestions?
When you mean the camera button wakes the phone up, does it launch the camera app, or is it like the power button is pressed (when the screen is off)?

That I have seen was a setting I had in the camera settings but the rest I've seen still stands.
Diagnosis app
So basically you need to recalibrate your proximity and light sensors with the diagnosis app. Please read the sticky thread for diagnostic codes. This issues has been discussed. Off the top of my head I can't remember the codes how to do it. I would search the forum for proximity sensor and light sensor recalibration.
Update-
1. If you don't have the diagnosis app you need to type ##634# in your dial pad
2. type *#0*# - diagnosis app not the dial pad
3. Recalibrate the Light and the proximity, then restart your phone. Should be fixed.
As for holding the camera button and the screen lights up. That is an advantage/shortcut to get to picture mode. That setting can be disabled if you go
1. Windows home live tile screen
2. settings
3. Swipe over to applications
4. pictures + camera
5. disable press and hold camera to wake up the phone or enable prevent accidental camera lauch when phone is locked

So this should work for both?!
This makes me very happy! I'll report back soon.
Huh when I get into the Proximity recal it only shows XXX (No Detection) and never changes anything.
Am I doing it wrong?
EDIT: The value reported for light is staying at 0000 too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045167&highlight=proximity
Is hinting that I have a busted set of sensors and will need to warranty it.
play with the set and reg button. Also, restart the phone to see if it will work. Not to insult your intelligence but you know where the proximity and light sensor are right? Hold your finger in front of it on it moving it further and closer. If none of these work you might have defective sensors. I like to try everything a couple of time before I take it in for warranty.
I do know where the sensor is, right next to the earpiece.
I've restarted the device and tried the sensors again but no luck.
When I try to set the light value at something I get some error about "Light_SetCalValue : DeviceloControl failed" and for the proximity test the screen always stays red even if I cover the whole phone with my hand.
I'm in the same boat. I've been debating on just rolling all the way back to stock and starting all over. Of course if it is a hardware issue I'm just going to be wasting time. Then again it probably would be best to roll back before sending it in on a warranty issue...
My other concern is if they do cover it what am I going to get back? Don't really want to be stuck on a Rev 1.4 focus as that STILL seems to be causing issues.
I hear ya tanders04, it would stink to get a 1.4 back.
Also, thank you siralex241 for the help.
