Hey guys I just read on the LG optimus One website that it will be getting a gingerbread update..And comparing Galaxy 3 and Optimus one I found that Galaxy 3 has a better processor but lesser RAM.So if Optimus one will get a Gingerbread update then is it possible for Galaxy 3 to get it too??
It doesn't have better CPU...

But dude Galaxy 3 has better CPU then Optimus One P500..Thats why I have quostioned..
Doesn't matter whether CPU is better..Android engineers are saying that any device capable of running Froyo should run Gingerbread comfortably..so we should get it..now main issue is, will Samsung do it & if so, when??
Samsung wll not update i5800 twice.
Also the LG phone has Qualcomm cpu with 3D accelarator and I think it's better then that "optimized" cpu from samsung.

ARM v6 processor is not likely to get 2.3. And to less ram...CM7 is only option i think

I had an option to choose between LG OO and G3 and i chose G3 over LG OO and i don't regret it one bit!
Samsung is way better than LG when it comes to stability, built and also service.
True, we don't have a GPU and an Official 2.3 update but look at the bright side, we have a better processor that can be over clocked up to 1.4GHz and we don't have to spend our weekends getting our phone repaired

Its marcellusbe's thread where he has shown cyanogenmod and gingerbread working on it. The fact is that he is still working on the rom. Once he is done we would be able to run Gingerbread also. BTW Samsung is quite slow. They had released the FROYO update very late before which 100s of custom roms were made for galaxy 3
all of this is just useless "spamming" here...
1.) it doesnt matter what specs we have, the only thing that matters is that samsung is NOT SUPPORTING this phone anymore
2.) samsung is NOT releasing ANY updates (rumours are NOT true) to G3 because we already got updated from 2.1 to 2.2.
3.) and yes we are capable of running 2.3 as well as 2.2
4.) i ask you, DO NOT post similar threads like these anymore... we have these kind of threads already, use the search tool OR google

every company in the world does things like this!
but yes they too abnormaly long for froyo updates
Some tablets are coming out with it. Has anyone gotten any info on whether it will be made available to existing devices?
Rumors that it will be for only new devices (tablets, etc, with duel processors), which would rule out just about everything out there right now.
I would like a ported rom of honeycomb. There's a rumor that 2.4/Icecream Sandwich/whatever is the phone version of 3.0. I think they did an amazing job on it and I want in on the fun, too. Lol

I read the other day that this had been denied by someone working in Android development team.
Sent from my Vision using XDA App
I found it on their facebook profile in discussions tab. Heres the thread where they post it.
Italian Milestone 2 (just come on the market, with many months of delay) has 2.2.2 version.
I think it's the update we're waiting
My UK version has 2.2.
In a thread where I posted some bugs with this ROM, they also confirmed an update is on it's way. I however refuse to believe it will be 2.3. More like 2.2.3 with the keyboard fixed and mp3 cracking problem fixed.
Discussion not available...!?
I do expect some updates for my Motorola Milestone 2, too!
It's okay to not treat my M2 like a flagship but still, some updates for a brand new electronic device is obligatory nowadays!

does anybody know if this update would apply for phones in Asia/Asia-Pac?
its such a pity that such a stellar phone is let down by poor update schedules from the manufacturers.

Nope, in this post (Chinese) :

I agree fully with you. My prev. phone is a Sony-Ericsson one ( C702c ), and, they never fixed any bug in next three years after the phone release. Maybe Motorola will upgrade MS2 to Android 2.4 or some version later, but locking BootLoader is quite unwise, they should leave the choice to customer.
Sorry for my poor English.

my previous phone was an X1, and they only launched a ROM update with bug fixes and slightly better performance (still on WM6.1 though) a year after the phone was launched. sadly though back then, there wasnt much competition, nor were there many phones with a slide out QWERTY, and the X1 had the market dominance esp with its good looks and superior hardware. times changed though, and right now the MS2 is lagging behind its main competitor.
what i hear is the MS2's main competitor, the Desire Z is getting a 2.3 update within this quarter of the year. makes me kinda regret getting this. so what if the desire Z has a slower processor, at least they r updating its software diligently. hats off to HTC for that. Thing is upgrading to 2.3 is one thing, the least they can do is fix the known bugs.

QFT! I do not understand why the bug fixes have not been pushed out. The mods on the support forum have mentioned having newer firmware than retail, so I assume they have made some fixes, and there is this newer Italian firmware that has fixes too.
The worst part of it is being left in the dark.

Desire Z's processor is slower than Milestone 2, but Motorola just OVERCLOCKED OMAP3630, its design frequency is 720MHz, Motorola sales it as 1Ghz in MS2, and, motorola Droid 2 Global's CPU runs on 1.2Ghz for retail when OMAP3640's design freq. is 1Ghz. Besides, Adreno205(41M Polys/s & 245M Pix/s) in Desire Z is more powerful than SGX530 (14M Polys/s & ?M Pix/s), means Desire Z has a greater graphic performance.
At least, HTC never locks BootLoader.
Forget it, maybe my next device is not a motorola one, but I'm enjoying MS2 now.

The OMAP3630 is designed for 1GHz. It's the OMAP 3620 that is designed for 720MHz.
The Adreno 205 is indeed more powerful according to benchmarks, but I think you should consider the detail that Motorolo's handsets use a higher resolution than most other devices (just by 54x480 pixels, but still).

I was really confused, I saw the data at wikipedia like this in early 2011:
Handset channels:
OMAP3640 - 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 + PowerVR SGX530 GPU + 430 MHz C64x+ DSP + ISP (Image Signal Processor)+IVA 2+ hardware accelerator
OMAP3630 - 720 MHz ARM Cortex A8 + PowerVR SGX530 GPU + 430 MHz C64x+ DSP + ISP (Image Signal Processor)+IVA 2+ hardware accelerator

You can also found it on Wikipedia history pages:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Texas_Instruments_OMAP&oldid=406270321
Actually, I learned this in most sites in Chinese said 3630 designed for 720Mhz at first. But current page of Texas Instruments OMAP on Wikipedia said 3630 designed for 1Ghz and 3640 designed for 1.2Ghz. And, http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/OMAP just described like wiki English before.
I can't found any frequency data on TI official site. Anyone have ideas on this?

Samsung is reportedly going to upgrade its Galaxy series of smartphones to Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform by the end of the year. The Mobile Indian quotes a Samsung executive as saying the upgrade should be available within six to eight weeks from now. According to the Samsung executive, the Gingerbread update will be rolled out for entire Galaxy series of smartphones. The development comes days after LG announced Gingerbread update (Android 2.3)for its Optimus smartphones. Sony Ericsson also started rolling out Android 2.3.4 update for its Xperia-range of smartphones.

The phone could easily run gingerbread and Samsung isn't really doing it for the customers anyway. It's doing it because the optimus and xperia range of phones are all being upgraded to gingerbread and Samsung doesn't want to look like they don't care about their customers.
Well I believe that history is repeating itself
When Samsung was going to release the 2.3 update for galaxy s and other at that time it released the froyo update for us. It may be that now ICS is coming up so they want to release an update here just for the sake of name OHH WE HAVE I UPDATE FOR EVERYONE!!

our G3 can easily run gingerbread and it will be smoother than froyo. phones with less specs are running GB
if the android os itself would be so demanding then phones wouldnt be able to handle apps on top of it.
g3 would probably be able to run icecream sandwich too but we will never be able to get it officialy.
mehh..
I have no doubt about g3 handling gingerbread, have seem the current CM7 port run on it.
but since the statement was made by an Indian Samsung executive, and clearly mentioned the newer mid-range (pop, fit and mini) that came out with the 2.2 out of the box, I am afraid samsung might decide to forget about the g3's which seem to be discontinued in the indian market, as this is clearly a strategy to sell more mid-range phones to the indian consumers, what with the launch of icecream sandwich, froyo would seem too outdated out of the box unless an update was promised.
Well no harm in remaining hopeful, but i am still taking this with a pinch of salt.
Dont think that gingerbread is going to come.... froyo update took much longer to come than promised and if gingerbread is going to come, it'll probably b very late
I believe Samsung will only release gingerbread to the galaxy phones that are currently being sold (tab, ace, mini and such), not to the old ones (3, 5...).
But even so, maybe it is still of some use if developers can put their hands on some drivers for hardware in those models that were also used on the old ones.
Does this mean we will get touchwiz 4.0? It is so much better than the crappy one we have and it's a lot faster and hardly any lag.

it has something to do with the new volcan api
https://developer.qualcomm.com/software/adreno-gpu-sdk/gpu
That just means older GPUs wont't get vulkan. It's not like Android suddenly requires Vulkan to work. Otherwise Anything below 820 won't get N, which is obviously not true.
