I found that there is a new version of Facebook ... version 1.2 (Market).

And on my HTC Desire, the version is 112.
Anyone has updated this?
There are 2 facebook apps on my Desire:
- facebook (version 112)
- Facebook for HTC Sense (version 1)

i only did the usual way to upgrade,
market -> download, and click on the application, and update.
Any feedback about the version? I see quite a few complaints about force closes on other handsets, how is it in the Desire?
Works just fine on the Desire. My biggest problem is you can't view your messages you have to manually go to the mobile site...oh wait what's this update...messaging feature finally! Now they need to add chat.

They need to get up to date with this android Facebook app. I did the update today hoping for the notifications to finally work properly, as in notifying me if someone comments on one of my posts! but alas, still no cigar, infact it never seems to notify me of anything. Is it just me?

I get updates but only if I add people with facebook to my Friends Widget..... then it adds a green circle with the number of updates by a friend.
the main app works fine, but the widget doesn't. fails to load each time.
edit: confirm that a reboot does indeed fix the problem.
A reboot of the Desire solved the issue with the widget for me
I've started using Bloo again lately. Much better notifications system, slicker and more comprehensive UI (has its own photo viewer with save option rather than just linking to the mobile site for example) AND there's an update coming this week that adds Facebook Chat.
Bloo doesn't let me log in i get stuck in a login cycle.
There is also multitouch when you view images.
Have you given the App permissions? Works fine on my Desire running generic Rom. Not bothered about multitouch; the only reason the native Facebook app has it is because it opens up the browser and that's CHEATING ;-) the gallery UI is much more slick and user friendly with Bloo, besides which there's little point viewing photos en masse with either of these apps as the standard photo gallery has Facebook album integration which is pretty damn slick
they have added the inbox but still it has few bugs. It cannot show more than 30 threaded messages in a single conversation. Even when someone sends a new message in that same conversation, you can see the preview on the inbox but when you click to go on reading it loads first 30 messages.
So im still stuck with the mobile facebook to see my messages. ..
anyone know the workaround of this?
I just want an update that lets me tag photos! I don't understand why this is taking so long
The update for Bloo has been coming for a few months. However, I can send you 1.5 (w/ chat) a bit later? PM if you want.
Also, I can't see the new update. I'm already on 1.2 :s Does the new version allow contact sync like the Nexus FroYo version?

Hello All,
Am new to HTC Android Phone. I have setup my contacts photos to be picked up from the respective Facebook Profiles. Although this happened the first time, if a contact changes the photo on facebook it is not getting updated in the phone? Is there a way to manually force an update??
Facebook sync is enabled (i guess once every 12 hours) and it has been several days since the contact updated the profile pic on FB.

Pretty annoying, but I have not found a way yet to fix it. Looks like a problem with facebook for android.

It seems that the facebook sync method doesn't check if the facebook profile pic is updated or not. Probably to save network bandwidth and sync time. But it is kind of annoying that it is not updated.
I have exactly the opposite problem. The pictures assigned to my contacts in google keep getting updated with those in facebook. While I don't mind that for contacts that do not have pictures in Google, it is quite annoying for such that do.
i pressed the sync all widget and all my face book images updated
my legend is rooted and running the modaco rom tho

Strange that it works for you. Can't see how a root or new rom would change anything. I have the same problem, using stock unrooted rom. Kinda hoped it would be fixed with new update, but no luck

I was also facing the problem of getting updated display pic from facebook and thought that there wasn't anyway to solve.. until after i ran into the FriendStream problem.
My FriendStream started acting strange and refuses to update friends' status today, it force closes when i try to launch the application proper. After reading up online, I did what others suggested, remove the facebook account and re-add it to FriendStream.. It got my FriendStream working again, plus a bonus - it "re-linked" with all my contacts in People and updated their profile pics! =D
Might take a while for it to fetch all the display pics again though, so I'd recommend doing it with a WiFi connection
My facebook profile pics update but there is a major delay between 12 and 24 hours) even though facebook and friend screen update every 10 minutes

the solution I found to force an update was to run friend stream, friends, facebook, menu, update

i know this is an old thread so hoping there was a better fix for this issue? terribly annoying
Doing a refresh in the friendstream app updates the photo in the app but not the contact photo
I have found no way to update the photos till now... have even tried unlinking the Facebook profile from the contact and readding - no use...

I've been using blackberry for a while and the facebook application on it is perfect. Now after switching to Leo, I've noticed that the FB app on that one is weak.. I just would like to know if there is a better app out there. The most important function I'm after is the push notification; I would like to get a notification on my phone(either on Home or maybe a specific tab), each time I get a notification on FB. I came across Babbler for Android, I believe what I'm looking for is something like that...

The site (especially http://touch.facebook.com ) is not bad but the option I'm missing from blackberry is the push notification. The only I managed to get notifications now is via email
you can get texts from facebook whenever you get messages or posts or whatever. unless your trying to not use texts of course it wont help

I'm familiar with this option; however, I'm looking for a more "integrated" application (with the OS I mean) such as the one for Blackberry.. I really hope people at Facebook or Microsoft will develop something similar..
That's the ONLY reason I'm hanging onto my blackberry. WinMo's FB app SUCKS. I was just trying this morning different apps which claim they can sync up. So far I haven't found anything that remotely compares to BB's interface. *sigh*

It has a mode that integrates with the web, and seems to cache your credentials so that you don't have to manually log on. It does have some ads but it's free.

If you do some forum thread searching you will find a couple of interesting items regarding this issue...
1) There is a thread from the writers of the Microsoft Facebook APP, who ARE aware of the limitations of the standard app, and are working on an improved version for WM!
2) There is also a team of equally pi$$ed off WM users who want a decent FB app, that have start writing their own! At present they are assembling a coding team, but SAMPLE images are available and they are making mighty efforts to accomplish what we all want!

Does anyone know a direct or indirect way to import FB friendlist to the x10 contacts, then merge them with Google contacts (Same as in HTC Sense).
I did manage to link 3 of my Google contacts to their FB account manually (Contact->Edit->Link Contact). Though, I still didn't get everything from this linkage, almost nothing other than the status. It didn't import my friends' display pics and albums, not even their special events like Birthday. I am sure there is a way somehow to do so. Does anyone know it?

wait until 2.1 is out. 1.6 doesn't have this feature. my bro Moto CliQ, i also tried on LG GW620. But Nexus One can do this as its a 2.1 features.
That is good, I am looking for this feature too as I used to have it in my HD2. So now, I only use the SyncMyPix to sync the facebook profile photo and link to my contact.

i used to look for apps, then also link all my contacts to facebook and twitter manually.
after numerous amount of debrand, and root updates. and i never to backup. i don't bother to do it anymore. hehe.
previously, i even browse around all my facebook friends, take their hi res profile picture and put to xperia contacts, now i don't do it anymore. lol.

Hi, it's my first post here. I've got a brand new Desire HD, unlocked, and I've noticed something strange.
I think it's strange because on my previous device (a Desire) it acted different.
I've got two Facebook apps installed (by default): Facebook (for android) and Facebook for HTC Sense. The first is version 1.3.2, the latter is version 1.0. Now, on the old Desire the version 1.3.2 was installed from the market ON TOP of the Facebook for HTC Sense, so there was only one Facebook app.
I cannot unistall both of them, so it's somehow boring.
Anyone noticed that too? Is it normal for the Desire HD? (well, I don't think it's pretty normal, because the device sometimes asks me to link 2 equals Facebook, one on normal facebook and the other on facebook htc sense, contacts together )

I always set the device to use Facebook for HTC Sense to sync my contacts, then disable the official facebook app(only disable the contact sync).
Thats always worked for me, sometimes (on my hero) the contacts didn't sync immediately but they always did eventually.
Make sure you're logged into both, in settings>accounts and sync.
@ Meesayen: you shouldn't have two facebook icons, I only have facebook and friendstream. Try either uninstalling the official facebook and reinstalling, if not then a hard reset would most likely sort it..
i've got this problem too, although one of the first things i did when i turned the DHD on was to download the facebook app, not realising it was already on there. but thats not the thing thats bugging me the most. the biggest gripe i've got right now is getting notifications to pop up whenever i get a facebook notification. i only know someone has written on my wall, for example, when i open the FB app and it refreshes.
has anyone figured out how to get facebook notifications to pop up in the taskbar?

haha! i forgot about this. for some reason when i was using a blackberry my email notifications had been turned off on facebook. they come through fine now. still not ideal, but i can live with it.
another question i had - whenever i open up a notification through the facebook app, it always launches the page in a browser and not the app. is this just me? now and then i'll get to see someones wall in the app but 9 times out of 10 it launches in the browser.
Although I don't have my DHD yet I woulser if you can use bloo I currently use it and think its the best fb app but wonder if it will mess with sense fb

hi guys,
i set up both facebook apps (facebook for android and facebook for sense), same with twitter.
but my problem is, everytime my device is syncing with facebook/twitter, it updates my contact pictures with the one from facebook and if there is nothing, with the ones from twitter.
i can manually set to use the phone contact picture, but everything is gone after the next sync.
i think facebook/twitter for htc sense is causing this problem. is there anyway to stop that something is changing my contact pcitures?
is there a setting in the accounts & sync tab? couldnt find any
any ideas?

I've been running the awesome americandroid gingerbread os in my hd2 for a couple.of weeks now and apart from.the known problems, this thing is sweet!
I have a general question that if can't figure out. How exactly does androids Facebook notifications work on gingerbread. I don't get any push notifications. I do get notified when i get a message but not when I receive status updates. I have doubled checked the settings and everything seems correct.
Anybody else having the same problem..... any obvious solution that I may have missed?

Perhaps the Facebook app is not fully compatible with gingerbread? However, I prefer to use facebook mobile on the browser. Much better in my opinion because you get to see everything at once like newsfeed & any notifications.

There's a way to get Facebook notifications working on your droid from the Native FB app. Check this post out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20189736#post20189736
If you don't have access to a BB I've heard that it works with an iPhone as well. I didn't have either and went to Blackberry's website and downloaded an emulator for the Storm 2 and from my PC was able to achieve the same results. Works like a charm now and all my notifications are coming in faster than email or even when I have FB running on my laptop sometimes the notifications are even faster to the phone then when they pop up on the screen.
