why is it functionless

i cant believe thatit doesn't auto update an add a little notice anywhere is it just me or is this £495 phone not pulling its weight, starting to think about selling this and getting an iPhone or going back to my 8900 have I set everything up correctly? why use is it if it doesn't notify you of anything

It might just be me but that seems to be quite a vague statement...what doesn't it update that's upsetting you? I found this:

earlier today and its got a nice feature which will automatically update any apps that you've installed...how cool is that? (I do hate calling progs "apps"...its so apple dont you think?)

Wel on some hand I can agree .. But did you know you can tusrm notifications on and off, quite easy actually.
In sence env go to SETTINGS > Display Notifications sounds.
And there you should find it.
And sorry for the name of the menu. I got the dutch version over here.
And please explain more about the auto update. What exactly is it that you want to "autoupdate"

why update automatically and update everything,,, instead of what you want to update

Can you come back with a more concise statement of what your problems are please? If its what I think it is there are tons of threads on here about that AND solutions which you can easily search for.
However let's start at the beginning and get our heads round what your problems are.

i just want things like facebook and twitter to update automaticly without me having to get an email first...
on my bb 8900 i would have an icon at the top stating facebook 1,2,3 etc
this phone seems to only notify me of sms,email? no app like facebook or twitter interaction at all??? and my facebook is ment to update every 2 hours, (cant seem to change this )

Your signature bemoans the price the HD2 cost you - but you dislike it because it's default settings limit data connection use, persumably to cut costs?
To your issue, I don't know what facebook app was running on your blackberry but if it's that important to you why not add an rss feed with your facebook updates or open a gmail account that's mailed whenever something happens on facebook and setting it as an exchange "push mail" account?
And that's before the obvious suggestion of googling for an appropriate application O_O
I hope I'm not too reproachful. My point is that Windows Mobile is more like a desktop os than it is like whatever blackberry uses or osX mobile. Solving your "issues" shouldn't take more than half an hour's browsing in the HD2 Themes and Applications forum.

you don't have the twitter tab? and the intergrated facebook? not that its working in all aspects but still I like it..! The standalone facebook application works. The phone also notifies me for twitter and facebook messages..

go to settings in htc sense then choose the data option (says set up sync schdules or similar under the heading) then click on facebook or twitter and set up sync settings to automatic.
they will both now update at the intervals you set.
twitter is available in sense via it's tab and facebook inegrates itself with your contacts in the people tab in sense by pairing your contacts on your device with the contacts of matching names from your facebook. names have to be the same to auto integrate otherwise you have to manually select which contacts to add to which facebook friend.

All the above, plus make sure you don't use any form of 'Auto-disconnect' program to turn your data connection off, or all 'pushed' updates like FB and Twitter will fail till the next time a polled update occurs.

I got Twitter setup for every 30 min but Facebook is at 2 hours an I'm unable to change?

I don't use that- have you got any settings for data disconnect active? If so, it might be worth disabling any auto-disconnect

As far as I know Twitter and FB do not notify you of anything?!
Only emails, SMS, Missed Calls, etc... get a notification.

Twitter has notifications. Facebook does not, unless you install the facebook instant messenger application from this site.

I was about to ask the exact same thing about Facebook, because mine doesnt either, and I have been playing with this phone for long enough to not have missed it!

Refreshing Facebook Contact Photo

Hello All,
Am new to HTC Android Phone. I have setup my contacts photos to be picked up from the respective Facebook Profiles. Although this happened the first time, if a contact changes the photo on facebook it is not getting updated in the phone? Is there a way to manually force an update??
Facebook sync is enabled (i guess once every 12 hours) and it has been several days since the contact updated the profile pic on FB.

It seems that the facebook sync method doesn't check if the facebook profile pic is updated or not. Probably to save network bandwidth and sync time. But it is kind of annoying that it is not updated.

I have exactly the opposite problem. The pictures assigned to my contacts in google keep getting updated with those in facebook. While I don't mind that for contacts that do not have pictures in Google, it is quite annoying for such that do.

i pressed the sync all widget and all my face book images updated
my legend is rooted and running the modaco rom tho

Strange that it works for you. Can't see how a root or new rom would change anything. I have the same problem, using stock unrooted rom. Kinda hoped it would be fixed with new update, but no luck

I was also facing the problem of getting updated display pic from facebook and thought that there wasn't anyway to solve.. until after i ran into the FriendStream problem.
My FriendStream started acting strange and refuses to update friends' status today, it force closes when i try to launch the application proper. After reading up online, I did what others suggested, remove the facebook account and re-add it to FriendStream.. It got my FriendStream working again, plus a bonus - it "re-linked" with all my contacts in People and updated their profile pics! =D
Might take a while for it to fetch all the display pics again though, so I'd recommend doing it with a WiFi connection

My facebook profile pics update but there is a major delay between 12 and 24 hours) even though facebook and friend screen update every 10 minutes

I have this issue too, it seems to come from the last OTA ROM update
my FB pictures don't updates, and worse, new FB contacts don't appear in my phone book. when I manually sync my FB account, there is a process that returns an error
the solution I found to force an update was to run friend stream, friends, facebook, menu, update
it takes some time

i know this is an old thread so hoping there was a better fix for this issue? terribly annoying

Doing a refresh in the friendstream app updates the photo in the app but not the contact photo
I have found no way to update the photos till now... have even tried unlinking the Facebook profile from the contact and readding - no use...

Facebook Problems that HTC and Facebook Guys wont fix

I love trying new Rom's. The only problem that I have is syncing facebook to my contacts most of the time its not working and when I do get it to work I don't want to change anything. then it just stops working. Is there anyone working on a fix for this cause I have talked to both HTC and Facebook guys and there blaming each other. There are some smart people in this forum. I would think that someone would come up with a workaround

Slow facebook sync? per erishasnobattery: log into your facebook account on your computer - Click Account>Application Settings>under Authorized - remove listing for HTC Sense.
so, using a sense-based ROM, i'd imagine that you'd want the HTC Sense setting on (in FB). if using non-sense based, follow the above.

I believe the facebook syncing has gotten MORE reliable with the July OTA update.
Try Evil Eris 4.0 when it comes out or Plain Jane v2 or Ivan's Eris_Official 1.1 when it comes out.
I leave always-on mobile on, and never have trouble with Facebook syncing. It never works right away, but does eventually. Sometimes if I open the people app, click the little recycling looking circle, and hit menu > refresh, the facebook syncing happens faster.
If you watch the Android SDK, you can watch it happening when it's happening. There's lots of data for it to download.

I have tried that about 8 times today and it didn't work I'm using Fresh Rom 3.0 right now.

Is there anyway to incorporate July OTA update into the current roms now like an update that I can flash I have search the forum and google with no luck

I am running the new xtrSense 3.1 with the July update in it.
I too can not get FB to sync with my contacts. I can not get one single FB friend to appear on my phone.
I have also tried the FB settings as suggested but no such luck.
Kinda blows.

I have not been able get htcfacebook to setup on any htc rom i try since late friday... i posted a thread in general on it that has a little info. I am not aware of anything we can do until htc and facebook fix it...

My wife's Eris allows for FB Sync with her contacts. I am looking at it right now, now issue at all.
I have no idea what ROM she is on, Sense based. In software info it doesn't say what it is. I think it might be the Leak4BaseROM, it only allows OC to 710.

From my testing and research, the issue seems to only effect when you first setup the account so if you were connected BEFORE the issue, continuing operations seem to mostly work... not sure if this others experience though.

Give this a try...
Follow what tenzomonk posted. This is what I did about a month ago to get mine to sync. I was getting the com.htc.bg error and facebook would not sync.
Go to facebook online and sign in. Go to your applications and delete 'Facebook for Android'. Then go to settings> Accounts & Sync on your phone and remove 'Facebook for HTC Sense. Now restart your phone and go back into Accounts & Sync and add 'Facebook for HTC Sense' again. This should solve the issue with com.htc.bg and your facebook account should now sync properly! Also, if you want your facebook contacts added to your google contacts, open contacts/people and then hit the menu button, then view, and then check facebook. This will add them to your google contacts.

What you all are seeing is the previously sync'd pictures from prior to the hose.
Go to the updates page and look at how many days ago the status update was.
It wasn't today. It'll probably say 5 or 6 days ago.

Syncmypix
when I have an AOSP ROM or if I dont' want HTC Sync set up (due to having a snooping girlfriend).
Sets up your pictures.
No little 'F' in the corner.

Really, this facebook issue has 0 to do with your ROM. It is all HTC/Facebook. If I restore a NAND from Wednesday, it *appears* to work ok, but as someone else mentioned, the data is 5 or 6 days old. Try adding a friend on facebook and they won't show up.
I flashed the *exact* same ROM again yesterday and they won't sync at all. HTC and Facebook both know about it, but it just went down overnight Thursday. They only had Friday to work on it, as I doubt either company wants to pay a bunch of devs OT to work on it over the weekend.

It's not just Friday there have always been problems and some of them has been the Rom

Thanks, pkopalek, for the tip on syncmypix. Works great. I don't know if I had problems before rooting yesterday, but haven't been able to get facebook sync to work since then. I was getting frustrated waiting for HTC and facebook to fix this. Now I don't have to wait.

Just an update. It looks like HTC is looking at it.

got it to work! Well halfway...I got it to sync up myself as a contact but all my FB friends and contacts won't sinc up....but I got past the "The service is unavailable at this time" part.....what am I doing wrong??

You're doing nothing wrong. The issue was with the servers on HTC & Facebook's end. Nothing to do with your phone in particular. The issue was a global one.
The issue appears now to be rectified as I am seeing reports everywhere that people are now able to sync and I, myself, noticed all my facebook contacts & status' were sync'd this morning.

It's fixed!!

Facebook contact wont syc after J16OTA update?

Do any of you had problem syncing contacts from facebook after the OTA J16 update?

I had this problem too, FB wouldn't sync so I didn't have contact pictures for any of my contacts. I removed my account, added it again, forced resync a few times, rebooted the phone and nothing seemed to work. Then, like an hour later it synced. Seems to be working fine except I have one contact tha has the wrong profiles picture shown and I can't figure out how to fix that.

@deadpass, do you have facebook for android installed? I have that installed and have the widget for launcher pro as well.

I do, the widget is on one of my home pages and it updates fine. I just removed and readded by FB account and all the pictures sync again, but I still have the one contact that has the incorrect picture.

Fb and twitter sync is completely norked on my phone. I meed to get a netbook soon cause these smartphones are wholly unreliable, imo.

FaceBook friends problem!

Hello!
I just got myself HTC HD2 and upgraded to WWE 3.14.405.2 official ROM.
I also upgraded FaceBook app to 1.1.0.26 from Marketplace.
But I don´t have all my friends listed in facebook app. I have over 500 friends, but I can`t see all of them. I go to "Friends" Tag, and click "Search" then i input the person's name which i'm trying to search and there is no results come out. In the web I have this person in my friends list!
That`s also why I cant sync all my contacts with facebook because they are not in the list in conctacts !
Please help me! What I have to do?

Thats why I would like to see it working.
But as I can see, then only thing what can help is new version of facebook app.

Ok I did some looking for you, but next time please use search. Go to this thread and this thread and check this thread out. One of the Face book apps has got to suit you. Then default app sucks, but then again what do I know I don't use facebook at all.

But the thing is, that my HD2 syncs contacts with the original Facebook app. Right now I cant sync all my contacts with facebook because they are not in the friends list in my HD2 facebook app! To have their pictures and birthdays in my HD2 is why I need a working ORIGINAL app of Facebook

Sorry about that then, I meant no harm just see people complaining about the stupid default facebook app all the time, but usually non of them have even tried to find a better app.
This may be a really dumb question but have you tried logging out of your face book account in the app then logging back in? I have heard that has helped some people on these and other forums.

I don´t like this original Facebook app mutch, but since it is integrated to my HD2 and it has possibilities I like, then I would like it to work as it has to be !!!

Today I reinstalled 3.14 ROM to HD2, hoping it will change something, but nothing new. Nothing changed in Facebook.
Is there any fixed ROMs, that are similar to original, but working better then original?

If all you really want is pictures and birthdays in contacts, HTC Sense has built-in Facebook integration for that. Have you tried going to settings (in Sense not the start menu)-data services-click on Facebook under social networks and set that up? That's how I sync my contacts with my Facebook. Btw, for general Facebook browsing I highly recommend either the FIM app, the XDAFacebook app, or the m.facebook.com site as mentioned before.

Yes, I have done this. From there I have from half on my friends pictures and birthdays already in my HD2 contacts. But in this list, what will open when I want to link someone with Facebook, there isnt half of my friends listed! Thats the problem! They arent listed in Facebook app too. Also I think, that the Facebook app and HD2 Social Network systems are connected to eachother. When one is not working then the other is also crap

i think it has something to do with your friends' privacy settings. if they have platform applications disabled, you will not see their name, photo, id, anything. i have some contacts that are not showing up either, though.
quick question: when you go to htc album, select any friend's facebook album, and browse images, do they download for you guys? i have troubles for 2 days with those now. i only have a cross.
