I've had my Legend for two days now. I've ported all apps with AppBrain, I've restored all contacts, sms/mms/call logs and I've set it up with my Google account.
Then after I plugged it from charging today:
- I noticed a "spot" in the center of the screen.
- It has a "wobbly" edge to it (caterpillar like)
- It's darker than the rest of the screen
- There are five "spots" in a line running thru it which are as light/same color as the rest of the screen (I figure these are somehow part of the touch functionality of the screen).
- When I run my finger over it, it "moves" in fluid like motion, up and down the screen. NOT sideways.
- It's visible when screen is turned on, but there is nothing visible on the or damage to the AMOLED.
What's going on here? It's off-course never been droppen, it's brand new, it's only been out of the house ONCE for a small walk...you know the drill, it's brand new.
I figure some kind of fault in the assembly of the phone, perhaps the capacative layer is loosening from the glass or the glass is touching the amoled.
I've sent mail to the store and I'm awaiting an answer. BUT, these things can be a hassle. How should I handle this? Should I use it anymore at all?
Anyone else seen this before or on their Legend? (I've dropped my Hero several times and never seen this before).
Thx

Totally agree. I had a similar problem in a Diamond2 and the "spot" went biger and biger with months.
that depends on which country you are in, if in SG, they (HTC) will sure push it as user abuse and void warranty. So All the best
I've read far and wide about AMOLED displays and suspect that this "defect" could have been caused by water seepage.
AMOLED and water do not mix well...
AMOLED and bright sunlight also do not mix well.

Hi guys!
I'd like ask all of you how often is this problem in Hero series?
I bought one a month ago and it has some stucked pixels, but I heard that the chance of getting even worse phone is bigger, so I decided to keep this one, because these dots are practically invisible during the common work with the phone.
I can see one or two if I set the brightness level to full, but thats my second question- how many of you use brightness on full or you do prefere to keep it on automatic? I discovered that on manual setting the phone loses light sensor function, am I right?
A couple of dead pixels here too... But can only really see them when I boot, so it's ok. So far...
p.s. I use half of the brightness. Full brightness i s great to show off but sucks up too much battery!!!
A few can been on boot on my phone too. Not really a big deal though.
From all opinions I got (plus from the other forums)- here is the statistics:
38 people don't have any/ 34 do have this issue...
Not good for HTC...
Hardly an exhaustive sample! Plus, you're more likely to get "positives" based on the thread title, because it's far more likely that people with dead pixels will read it!
That being said, it is *very* common, and not just on the Hero. You don't need to google for long to find that the iPhone has similar issues.
Regards,
Dave
Yes, you are right, but still.. even those people with this problem are enough evidence that it's something wrong with the quality control. I am not saying that it's happened only to HTC Hero, but it's a big problem in general and I don't agree to give 400+ boxes for getting stucked/dead/bright and so on pixels. This is just kind of thinking, and when the manufactures realize that it would be much painless for us- the clients. It's all about the quality control- in general- monitors, TV's, cameras, laptops...esspecially when the items go above define price. You get it what I mean..there is no room for joking with the clients. Ok, I am gonna change the device- once, twice, three times, but where goes the starting point that has made me convince to buy exactly this model? Nowhere..the same with Iphone, Sony Ericsson, Nokia... We are living in 21st century and the perfection is tide connected with this time..or at least that's my point of view...
The issue is that the yield of 100% "perfect" LCD displays is actually quite low. As this article states (under Quality Control) it is economically prohibitive to throw away otherwise perfectly good LCD panels for the sake of a few dead pixels.
Unfortunately, as it currently stands with LCD manufacturing methods, for us all to be *guaranteed* screens free of any dead pixels, we'd probably have to pay an awful lot more for our devices since many screens would end up having to be thrown away.
Regards,
Dave
Ive got none however I do have a little light leak in the top right of the display
I have 2. But I dont think they're dead pixels but dust that's visible on the black background with booting. Cannot see them at all with normal use.
If they were completely dead pixels it might have been more nasty.
It's in the nature of fabricating lcd displays. And has been a problem for a long time. Anyway, with my Hero I can't be bothered about it.
If you have stuck pixels, try JScreenFix. Its free from the Market. worked for me!
i had alot on my first device.. i traded it in.. this one has 2.. they only show up during booting.. so i guess its not a big deal
I've had a couple of Heros by now:
1. very visible dead pixel (centered in market search field) -> returned
2. Really large gap on top side of display glass -> returned
3. happy until after 3 months suddenly loads of dust appeared below display glass -> returned
4. dead pixel in prominent place -> returned
5. I'm very happy again. hope that dust will stay away from underneath the display glass.
So, my personal record so far: 4/5 Heros are flawed (3/5 Heros on arrival).
That's really sad as it is such a great phone otherwise.
I've posted about this before, if they appear as bright white specks when brightness is up full (such as during the boot animation) then it's dust, not dead or stuck pixels. You can open the phone up and remove them. I've seen it on multiple handsets, turned out to be dust every time.

In my case the first pixel was permanently green, while it was a red pixel in the second case, definately not dust. (I think these are correctly called hot pixels, not dead ones.)
i hab a dead pixel on the first day after i bought it. But i went to the T-Mobile shop immediatly and they changed my hero with a new one without any problems! With my "second" Hero i dont have any Problems till now. Seems like there are 2 generations of displays!
*edit*
my dead pixel was near the upper left corner and it was totally white. actually you could only see it if the rest of the screen was red or black. but as it was a mistake i changed my hero anyway!
Hi guys,
Ok so on my HD2 there are some wierd blotches permenantly on my screen. Don't get all hilarious and say they are finger prints
They are about and inch up from the bottom and are brighter than the rest of the screen. They show up best when the screen is white like when writing an email, texts, documents etc. But they are there all the time. Two big blotches brighter than the rest of the screen.
Is this reason to call in the pros to take a look? It has to be something wrong with the device.
BTW...never dropped it, pressed the screen too hard etc, very well looked after.
ANY ADVICE???
Yea I have this too, must be from an impact with the screen somehow surely?
re blotches

i think this is a recognized defect and not caused by mishandling of the phone.
i've personally seen these blotches on 2 hd2s (and read about others). the first i bought on ebay and returned to the seller as he had not disclosed them but the second i sent back to htc and they replaced the screen under warranty. the unbranded version of the hd2 has a 2 year transferable warranty and you don't even need a sales invoice. they also pay carriage both ways and usually turn repairs around in 7 working days (altho it's £12 to get it back if they decide that the defect isn't covered by the guarantee).
i'd send yours back.
how/who did you send to in HTC - do you have a link?
Many thanks
Mine developed a white 'spot' most visible when on a white page. I went to the htc website and looked up service/repair. They needed an invoice (I printed a paypal page) and offered to collect my phone, or said I could send in myself. I sent in to speed up the process -cost a couple pound. They replaced the screen and returned without charge. Only took around 5 days to turn it around. Great service in my opinion.
Guys, I have a terrible issue with my LG G2's screen. Apparently, it looks like it's gotten some annoying burn-ins, which look like white lines running across the screen. They aren't much of a problem for me, but they have got very annoying in recent time. And, it seems like they are becoming more prominent with time. Here are some pics in order to get a feel of what I'm talking about. Can it be fixed with a display tester app? Please help! This burn-ins are driving me nuts! Didn't pay so much for a flagship handset with screen issues. :crying:
By the way, these burn-ins are most evident on grey backgrounds, as shown in the screenshots with a plain grey wallpaper.

This is very strange.
I was under the impression that LCD screens could not get burn-in.
Maybe what you are experiencing is not burn in.
One of the reasons why i came to this phone because i have had the galaxy s2 with LED display and i got status bar burn in as i have noticed happens to many people with led displays. AMOLED included.
Dont quote me on this but Im pretty sure it must be the reflective foil getting too close or tearing on the back of the LCD at a pressure point. Did your phone LCD take in impacts/heavy pressure or anyoone sit on it?

No, not at all. I take great care of my device. Not once has it fallen, nor be treated with pressure on the screen. Once, my mother happened to sit on my brother's G2, however, but he didn't experience any issues whatsoever. At least no similar burn-ins as on my device.
Weird, get warranty replacement then, still sure its probably the reflective layer, but hard to say what else could cause it to warp, since you say it hasnt suffered any abnormal usage.
I have this problem as well, especially in Hangouts since it's grey in color. Not really a big deal though, as it goes away a few seconds later. Now if it sticks, then that's a problem.

Those weird lines seem to stick. But, I wouldn't want to mess with replacement units, warranty repair etc. If it gets too annoying to handle, my first approach would be the display tester app. Plus, these "burn-ins" are less prominent (almost invisible) in outdoor lighting and do not tend to appear as much (or at all) on different backgrounds than grey.
Hi friends, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note since 2012 and I used to love it. It was fast, big, it had a good camera, an almost perfect screen (The first HD Super Amoled screen) and the amazing S-Pen. It went from 2.3.5 Gingerbread to Android 5.0 Lollipop (Unbelievable). But yes, after 3 years of heavy using it, it started to show problems. The camera stopped working fine, It didn't focused anymore, the S-Pen started malfunctioning (moving elements of the screen without even touching it), the USB board went bad (including the microphone and usb jack) and the screen has burn-in issues. Then I assumed that was time to change it. Now I'm looking for the new flagship, the Note 4 (which I'm going to buy in January). So I read almost every review of it, every video and photos taken with his camera and everyone says that the phone is almost perfect (I mean almost because the 80% complains about the Touchwiz Layer in the OS, which I love and I don't have any problem to live with it) and doesn't have any flags. So I came here to ask to the people who already owned it and have some daily experience with the device what are their thoughts, problems and good things about it. Also some little things that I'm a bit worried:
-How good the camera is?
-It's early to ask because no one had this phone for more than 4 months, but does anyone experienced screen burn in? And how looks the screen in direct sunlight?
-What parts of the phone are metal? Only the frame or the whole body? And how feels it? It's good to handle or still feels like cheap plastic?
-What about the phone duration? Anyone had scratches on it? How bad they're? Please if you can add some photos of them, because the phone isn't even released here in Argentina and they arent any covers or protectors for the it so I need to stay for around 3 months with a "nude" phone.
Sorry for too many questions, but I really need to know how good this phone is because the price is really high. Thanks!

- The Camera is fine, in my opinion, but that probably depends on the persons preference and use.
- I can't say I have experienced any burn-in, but the screen is okay in direct sunlight; however, if you angle your phone to inspect the glass in sunlight with the screen on, I notice a reddish tint all over with that blurryness you would experience if you were in a well-lit city at night without glasses when you need them haha :silly:
- Admittedly, the phone feels a tad delicate, but that's what cases are for! I have been using an s-view case without a screen protector since purchase and it still looks like-new! If you aren't going to use a case for your phone though, a full metal body might be better.
- With my s-view case and no screen protector, my phone has no scratches - that I can see. Unless you carry your phone in the same pocket as your keys and other objects, you will be fine :3 Unless you carry sand in your pocket Phone duration seems to vary among different models though. I am using a 910V (?) and I get anywhere from 4~6 hours of Screen-on time. The stand-by time is the best part though imo. I can usually go 2 days or more without a charge.
edit:
The red tint usually happens if I angle the phone on purpose I leave my brightness settings on automatic and the screen is always clear (as it would be at nighttime) with the sun directly over me.

If I had any complaints, the s-pen would convince me that it's worth it so I'm pretty biased xD
The phone is just fine. But u should buy the qualcom varients as this is my 3rd note 4. Its qualcom but backside 4g+ is written. Its true if u see the display from an extreme angle you will see red tint but its normal for me cause almost nobody watch the display from 170 or 180 degree. Qualcom chipset has better ram and bettery management over exinos one. And the phone really looks premium. Not only looks but u will feel it when you touch it. No problem seeing the display at direct sunlight. And it does not matter if they use gorilla glass 10 it will have scratch if you do not use screen protector or flip cover. So be careful.
Hi,
Dropping my phone was the worst thing that could happen with my phone.
I found someone who would do the screen replacement and after nearly two months he finally returned the phone two me.
At first glance it seemed ok but closer inspection have shown me that:
- the panel used was JDI instead of LGD so a japanese panel instead of the 'original' LG
- serious screen bleed contouring the whole screen
- highlights on the screen, points in the screen where I can clearly see the backlight being brighter than everywhere else
- luminosity is lower than the original.
The last two points are very annoying. I compared my phone with a phone displayed in a shop and I see that the screen on the shop's phone is brighter that mine, even without adaptive brightness and @ 100% luminosity.
Could this be due to different panel manufacturer (JDI instead of LGD)?
The screen bleed could be due to the screen being badly glued but I am not sure...
But the bright speckels are annoying also. In bright areas this is very much noticable, a white picture shows two small areas brighter which indicates to me that the back of the panel has something behind that 'pushes', hard to explain.
Anybody had similar issues or had his screen repaired?
You can see my issues in the attached screenshots...

I don't think your issues is the panel type, i replaced mine and got a JDI from eBay. I don't notice any difference from my old one, which was not JDI. I would say you just got a poor screen. Not the fault of the installer either, i would try to get hold of the screen seller, or just accept the loss and replace it again.

I can agree that the panel type is not the culprit but the screen bleed is definitely the installers fault.
I am not very happy replacing it again as the total cost would mean that I could have bought a new phone for the same price...
My feeling is that the seller of the screen has delivered a used screen and damaged the silver back of the panel by removing it from the old device (the bright highlights could be from a prying tool used while recuperating the screen.). Too bad , lesson learned = do not drop the phone as the screen shatters very easily and when repairing, find a reliable repairsman...
Accept the loss seems to be the only option in this case...
Maybe I will have to disassemble/assemble the phone myself and do with with extra love and care and sense of detail....

Since the digitizer comes glued to the glass I'm more inclined to blame the screen/seller than the installer. But you know the saying... "If you want it done right...". All the best on getting it sorted and working properly.
