I was wondering if it was possible to port windows xp tablet edition on HD2. I mean as far as I can tell the HD2 is capable of running windows xp. I know that this would be incredible as i have seen windows xp running on varies MID's that have minimal specs and run ex pretty decently. Any info or links I would really appreciate. it would be awsome and im sure im not the only one looking foward to somthing like this. I see linux everywhere but would love some windows
any info would be appreciated
Test with QEMU, i'm not sure but i remeber that one people launch XP (not tablet edition) in his HD2 and it was slow :/ But try
Thanks I really appreciate it

weird, i havent been able to find this request anywhere on the net.
Can you install windows mobile 6.5 onto HTC magic?
Please tell me if it's possible and I have alot of WM apps I currently use that I would like to continue using.. since there does not seem to be a big 3rd party community yet for Android.
No, there's already posts about this if you search. Win Mobile doesn't support the touchscreens on the Android devices. Have you searched the apps market there's like 6000 and it's growing all the time.

nobody in there right mind would want to.. If you want to run win mo there are better devices out there that are easier to come by & cheaper then a MT3G..
Or you can wait a lil bit longer as the Touch Pro 2 is coming out on Aug 12
I think this has already been discussed in this forum, try searching the board.
I think the capacitive touchscreen was the reason why this was not possible at the moment. WM will be supporting capacitive screens at some point in the future so who knows.
I'm of the opinion that Android is a big leap forward from windows mobile, there is no way I would 'downgrade' my HTC Magic!
...............NO. And why the F would you want to port WM6.5 to an Android hardware phone?? Go buy a Touch Diamond or something then.
sorry man u can't maybe when win mobile 7 "phone 7" officially run .. we can figure out something cause "windows mobile does not support capacity screen yet" we hope it will do soon i have the same concern just like u when i find out something i will tell you cheers
Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone know if it is possible to replace windows mobile completely with android on the HTC HD2 ?
I have read articles around the net with how you can from windows, run HaRet and it can boot into Android, but would be better if you could replace it completely.

Does anyone know if possible ?
I can only imagine that would be incredibly difficult, atleast if you wanted Sense to run well ontop of it since it's adapted ontop of Windows Mobile. Maybe not, worth a shot I guess?

Actually, Sense isn't the problem as there are now Android phones running Sense (obviously an Android version, not the Windows one).
There's an ongoing thread about getting Android to work on WM phones. I believe it runs, but about 50% of important stuff doesn't work, so it's not worth doing yet.
Search the forums - it's there somewhere.

People are already working on it.
However, it's a difficult task and most likely we'll have WM7 before Android works on the HD2 and nobody will care about Android anymore.
Or there will be better hardware running Android at the time they manage to make it run on the HD2.

Interesting!
Hi there
I've seen the works from XDA on getting android working on some HTC...
and i have too say... Lucky bastards!!
Is there hope to see it working on Omnia i8000... and next on the B7610 ?
Maybe some changes in the drivers could do the job
also looking for android to work on i8000
I guess that it's a huge new project, 'cause Omnia II have a totally different processor (Samsung S3C6410) and all other devices XDANDROID supports have Qualcomm MSM chips.

No offence, but if you really like the ...droid so much, why not get a Samsung galaxy instead of the i8000?
I can appreciate, stictly out of experimental interest, why someone would like to run a MacOS on top of Windows. But if somone really likes the Mac so much, why not simply go and get a Mac instead?
Oh well, but then again, it takes all kinds. Some people think it's smart to run win95 on WM....

First of all, i don't own a i8000 but a b7610...
If i could afford a different gadget, i would have an android, an iphone, even a sciphone... but i can't... too bad for me, right
I got the b7610 because it was (and it still is) the most suited for me...
If i can run linux and windows on a single pc, it's the best of both worlds...
The same for windows mobile and android, win 95, whatever OS...
More diversity, more utility, more i can get from my expensive hardware
It has been proved that it can run on the original omnia, and on some HTC's...
So i only ask if is too difficult to port it to omnia II (and Omnia Pro)

I wanna try Android on O2... the reason is that the speed is said to be much better than WM. Yet, I'd to keep my WM OS on when I play games coz I still like my WM games.
Maybe there is a little chance for Android for i8000
Look at this link. This device seems to have hardware (especially CPU) similar to our Omnias

good news
It looks almost the same like a i8000.
I hope samsung isn't going to put a lot of there junk software in this device so we can pick the rom of this device and put it on our device
also looking for android on samsung b7610. every startup.txt fails on loading the kernel...
i just found a tutorial how to compile a kernel. the tutorial is for i900 but may work by loading other cpu driver or whatever
http://andromnia.net/wiki/docs/howto_build_linux_kernel
well over @ modaca, i today dl'ed almar's android,for i800,
and it worked, it booted up after a few tries, but nothing is functional...
no radio, no wifi, no Bt, etc.
and no real performance either
i think we'll never get android working as good on Xperia x1 or touch pro2..
Is anybody working on porting this to the HD2? Would be interesting to try it although I do like the Sense UI which WP7 wont have.

I knew nothing about Android until recently.
I was just curious to find out why so many like yourself were saying every where, "Android is better", "Get it" or you got Windows Mobile? That OS is terrible.
Well, I had to try it, and I put Android on my HD2.
You can see the version I am using on my signature.
It runs very well on my phone. And yes, Android is nice.
I have tried all the Android Ports. The one I am using now I think is the best.
But, I got to tell you:
My Windows Mobile Energy ROM in my signature is better than Android.
Windows is more polished.
I do not see Android as superior.
Energy Windows ROM with Cookie Home, all the latest HD2 Registry Tweaks, and the latest Sence 2018, plus the most recent HTC software updates from the new Oboe devise is amazing, fast and reliable. Android got nothing on it, except may be the live wallpapers.
After seeing the serious limitations that are coming with Windows Phone 7, I am not in the "I want to try it out" group and with recent news of AT&T being the exlusive partner = suck nads even more
it isn't looking likely at the moment (certainly not a fully featured port). This is the best post to monitor for progress:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685272
As an aside, some of the EVO based Android HD2 builds are very good. I dumped WiMo a while back
Never said Android was betterI was just hinting that from what I've read shouldn't be much different , however thanks for the feedback.
So, I got a tab, and I was really excited to run ubuntu on it, then figured out it that no one has drivers for it, so it's running through VNC.
This leads me to my question. Why do we want ubuntu? What's wrong with getting debian installed and then running X11? Both of which are probably easier to get working. Wouldn't this be faster than over 'ubuntu' over VNC? I assume , like me, i wanted ubuntu really because of GNOME/xfce, which could be done over X11.
Anyway, here is a link to X11/Debian on N1.

Is there a reason not to do this instead?
Hugely more difficult. It's been worked on, search the dev. section for Meego and Ubuntu
I see it now, thanks. On another note then, is the hardware/drivers all that different on the Nexus S? Someone's got ubuntu running on that natively.
