Hi it's there a guide step by step on how to root a N1 with Mac.??
This guide seems pretty decent:
http://theonda.org/articles/2010/03...-performance-boost-and-some-serious-geek-cred
However it's a little outdated with its CM version etc, so make sure they are all up to date

I've had a Mac user use my stickied guide on this forum. The only difference is using a different fastboot file (which I have a link to in the guide). Check out my sig for details.

I found this as the first step: http://theunlockr.com/2010/12/10/how-to-temporarily-root-the-t-mobile-mytouch-4g-htc-glacier/
then this right after: http://theunlockr.com/2010/12/10/ho...s-off-on-the-t-mobile-mytouch-4g-htc-glacier/
I would like to know how this compares to gankin's guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
These vids I found seem like a really simple and effective way to root, but thought I would ask here since every site I google searched for info on rooting seems to bring me to this site.
Thanks.

please post questions in the Q&A section
the first video is temp rooting... the second one i believe is based off of grankin's first rooting method guide. I would go with the ultimate s=off because it gives you s=off on the radio and bootloader. it essentially SIM unlocks your phone and replaces the bootloader with an engineering bootloader.
Please post questions in Q&A section.
Sorry about that.
This is a really dumb noob question, but there's so much tech stuff around here I'm floundering a bit ...
I have an unbranded Legend running 2.06.708.2 (Asian I think)
I want to have a rooted phone running Froyo 2.2
I found the file "Legend_Froyo_S_HTC_WWE_3.15.405.3, rooted.zip"
I now need a simple set of instructions how to use this to for perform the upgrade.
Easy.

Thanks for your reply. I think I have visited that page, among many others.
I was kinda hoping for a pointer to a single simple topic entitled something like "[HOWTO] Flash a Legend rom from a zip" but am coming to the conclusion there is no such thing.
Guess life is not that straightforward in Legend Land, so I must keep trawling the many threads and try to piece together what goes on.
Dave
If u haven't rooted legend u can install this zip file... first root your phone. Good luck
Sent from my HTC Legend
I was also confused on my first strike to root my legend.
I fund another very good rooting thread here. Try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894465 and follow it step by step.
It wasn't very complicated, but you need to read and follow this thread carefully.
Cheers,
Stolich
I have some experience rooting(evo 4g, nexus 4). I think that i have decided to use Casual root, for the apparent simplicity, to root my att s4. My question: is there a step by step video tutorial for windows 7? I see there are some drivers to download, but im not sure where they go. I downloaded them but after that im not sure what to do. Total newb here, but willing to learn and try.

This is what I have used on my Canadian Rogers S4 i337M via Windows 7 and it worked flawlessly with lots of comments as well within the thread, give it thorough read through and most of your questions should be answered within that thread.

Which of these would be easiest? Is there also a step by step somewhere or a video like the one just posted?

casual is about the easiest possible way to root your device. just follow the simple instructions. do not install any drivers. just plug the device in and start casual. the rest will take care of itself. after the process is complete, continue on to backing up before proceeding. check out this guide. cheers

Ok i read on adams casual that you have to download something so that you can go into download mode. Im assuming they are drivers, but after downloading them I have not a clue what to do.
Just wonder if anyone has the recovery flashable file unrevoked-forever?
Apparently the download is no longer available on their site.
Thanks.

Just had to do this myself after realizing I never achieved S-Off. Here's the file (the only working one I ever found):
mediafire .com/download/k4uo94243szbrj2/unrevoked-forever.zip
Was linked in this guide which was what I also followed this last time:
androidforums .com/threads/how-to-gaining-root-unlock-downgrade-and-achieve-s-off-with-htcdev.531353/
(Still a new user so breaking the links)

Hey thanks man, I just ended up following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600904 and stopping after finishing at step 5.
Then I realized I still had the latest version of Unrevoked3 (v3.22) on my linux box. After using the HTC dev unlock just ran that tool. It installed an old version of CWM recovery and rooted the phone. Most importantly I got S-OFF through that. Because Unrevoked3 has the Unrevoked Forever patch built right into it.
But good to have the link. I will save that in case I need it in the future.

Hah nice, that's the same guide. Looks like the person who made the guide, scotty1223/scotty83 reposted it in these forums. Glad you got it to work! Hopefully those links will stay alive but I should archive the guide and them for my personal use if I ever find a need. Just remembered now that I installed the newest TWRP when following the guide after studying up on how the process all worked.
First post here was recommended here for help rooting my first android. I have a galaxy s5 on 5.0 lolipop and I need help rooting cause most of these threads seem like a different language.
I was trying my hardest to downgrade but I think I need to download 4.4.2 cause If i remember correctly when i tried towelroot back when I was on 4.4.4 it didnt work.
Im just gonna list a bunch of random crap that might help you help me how to downgrade and root my phone lol..
Baseband version: G900VVRU1BOC4
Hardware version G900V.05
And yeah.. Im a retard so if you could help me out with links and stuff that would be great, Im on a windows computer as well..
Hello and welcome! Let's see if I can't help a little here...
First you should back things up as rooting methods from scratch will wipe all of your data/phone.
After that, there are two ways to research or go about rooting; either follow this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880
or if you are NOT feeling a comprehensive guide and want a more straightforward one you can do the following...
you can follow muniz_ri's instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-to-update-to-g900voe1-5-0-keeproot-t3149784/
specifically #4 in Notes in the first post (in addition, install a superuser app [supersu, superuser, etc.] from the play store). Afterward, you can go to the first link I showed you to put it to any version you want, or any of muniz_ri's update and keeproot threads or whatever ROM you might want to install.

Now you search the forums and read the stickies at the top. They're there for a reason, learn it. If this is too advanced for you, no one is writing step-by-step instructions specifically for you. You must learn for yourself, it's all been posted before.:good:
