[Q] Need help downgrading/rooting - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First post here was recommended here for help rooting my first android. I have a galaxy s5 on 5.0 lolipop and I need help rooting cause most of these threads seem like a different language.
I was trying my hardest to downgrade but I think I need to download 4.4.2 cause If i remember correctly when i tried towelroot back when I was on 4.4.4 it didnt work.
Im just gonna list a bunch of random crap that might help you help me how to downgrade and root my phone lol..
Baseband version: G900VVRU1BOC4
Hardware version G900V.05
And yeah.. Im a retard so if you could help me out with links and stuff that would be great, Im on a windows computer as well..

Hello and welcome! Let's see if I can't help a little here...
First you should back things up as rooting methods from scratch will wipe all of your data/phone.
After that, there are two ways to research or go about rooting; either follow this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880
or if you are NOT feeling a comprehensive guide and want a more straightforward one you can do the following...
you can follow muniz_ri's instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-to-update-to-g900voe1-5-0-keeproot-t3149784/
specifically #4 in Notes in the first post (in addition, install a superuser app [supersu, superuser, etc.] from the play store). Afterward, you can go to the first link I showed you to put it to any version you want, or any of muniz_ri's update and keeproot threads or whatever ROM you might want to install.

Now you search the forums and read the stickies at the top. They're there for a reason, learn it. If this is too advanced for you, no one is writing step-by-step instructions specifically for you. You must learn for yourself, it's all been posted before.:good:

[Q] I am new to this site

I could really use some ones help me root my phone and get 2.2 froyo I would really appreciate if some one can help me please. Can help one reply and show me how
Do you want root + custom rom, or just stock froyo.
I will tell you that stock froyo leaves a LOT to be desired and the custom ROMs are incredibly better.
Help me out whats best for me to do so I wont be able to crash my phone lol thank you for replying
Honestly, you are better off rooting on your stock 2.1, read the noob guide.... will add more shortly.
After you read that, you will note all you need to do is move update.zip and flash it (in the guide).
Boom, you have root... now download Rom Manager, flash CWR, and create a backup (also in the guide).
Now that you have a backup of your system, backup your apps (Titanium Backup app), in the guide.
Now, download a custom ROM and flash it with CWR..... I recommend Trigger V2.5. You can go to the dev section and find it, or click the link in my signature to watch a video if you like. If on your phone best to watch the video embedded in his thread so the annotations show up.
there is no quick way of doing this
u need to do some reading
in s15274n click on the "My noob guide" read it, then read the "My Vibrant Guide",
then if u have questions about really specific things, people will help you out.
read lots before u start flashing roms, because it is risky.
hope this helps, i am new to the android world too and been reading lots lately, my phone should be here soon though
Ok I will root right now and reply when I am done but where is the noob guid?
my signature, or the sticky in the Q&A section.
Ok checking. I have been reading lots also bc I don't wanna mess up my from that's why I am asking for help you know lol
s15274n noob guide has all you need, rooting is pretty simple and there are A LOT of videos showing step by step for rooting, flashing a rom, updating a theme etc.... so welcome, after a couple of weeks you will be so happy with the phone it will blow your mind
Thank you I'll be back guys i need to help my brother with some stuff. Right now the first I'm doing is rooting so i have the undate.zip in the internal right gonnd turn off my phone and do it
I read those guides posted by s15274n and others countless times before i rooted, then I read them again. Read them until there is no question in your mind as to what your doing. Read the rom flashing guides as well, as you'll more than likley want to put a custom on on after you've gained root. Thanks to s15274n and the other members who have taken the time to make easy to follow guides and tutorials.
Ok I root it now download a Rom right. But what is Trigger V2.5.
I'm looking for the Trigger V2.5 but i dont find it I see Trigger V2.0.1
look in the development section of the vibrant forums..anyway..trigger 2.6 got released today..here is the link for the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=921453
(click where it says "download trigger 2.6")

Would someone please post a step by step guide to flashing a custom ROM?

Now that the loki method has come out and people are successfully flashing their ATT SGS4s with custom Loki'd ROMS that are available, can someone please post a step by step guide to help out new people to this whole process? I've read a bunch of different posts and I have a general idea of what to do, but I see that there are specific steps that must be followed, etc, can anyone please help me (and I'm sure many others) flash their first ROM?
As I understand the defacto standard is something like cyanogenmod, but I see other ROMS in the original android section. How do we install these? I understand that there we need to first install something like CWM, then flash the loki'd rom, but a step by step guide would be really useful! Also, setting up LTE after flashing, google apps, etc, seems like theres a lot of information floating around about that. Also, how to recover with Odin or some application in case we mess up?

Yes, strart there, in that same forum, is ALL the info to get you:
Root
Bootloader fix
each thread has detailed instructions, if someone just says do this, you will never learn, if you have questions on a certain item, read, then post in the forum that is giving you the issue. I am not slamming you, it is a good working start.

Assuming its the MDL update, its fine to install. Then go the Sprint Original Android Dev Forum and find CF's Auto Root thread. Its pretty simple, you just have to get familiar with Odin.
As a former HTC user myself I'll say dont let it intimidate you, rooting using CF's Auto Root is a cinch. Theres a how-to video as well that will walk you through step-by-step.
Link to CF Auto Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291827
Link to How-To's: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271793
Don't forget to throw a thanks (and a donation if you can) to Chainfire for his dev work, and to the OP of the how-to vids.

If you are moving from MDL to MF9 update, do this before you use Chainfire. Chainfire works great with MF9, but you have to manually load MF9 and do a bunch of extra steps if you use CF first. Also, the HotSpot mentioned in the CF Auto Root thread doesn't work with MDL and will brick your phone. If this occurs, don't stress there is a QBKing77 Youtube video that tells you how to unroot and reverse it all and start over, including resetting the recovery software from TWRP back to stock. After unrooting did Sprint's OTA update to MDL, followed by OTA update to MF9, then re-install of TWRP, then free HotSpot, with no problems. [Q] VZW G2; where to go from this point

I've read half of all of the ROM threads in the development forum, and am still unsure of where to go from here, so I am trying to get a direct answer here.
My situation:
VZW G2
Rooted
Stock ROM
VS98011A
TWRP 2.6.3.3 (updated to this version using FreeGee)
I have the OTA popping up constantly and I want to get rid of it by flashing the appropriate ROM.
Can I simply download a ROM and flash it using TWRP? Or am I going to get stuck in one of the many loops I am seeing people post about?
I would love to create a wiki with various starting points for people, but it is so hard to find information here. Searching for one thing leads to an explanation that, while helpful, involves five other steps or topics that one must also research, and I've often found people's step-by-step instructions to be incomplete or have a step that they assume everyone knows but is quite complicated.
THANK YOU to whomever replies, even if it just a link to something helpful, because I will gladly do the reading myself. I just often don't know what these people's starting points are when they are asking questions.
Most of the ROMS I have downloaded have flashing instructions in the OP. All you have to do though is factory reset before flashing, and then flash your ROM + GAPPS and then wipe cache/Dalvik Cache several times and yes you should be good to go
In regards to your wiki idea, I think it is a wonderful one. These forums are terrible for finding concise information. Often it is hard for me to find the information I am looking for.

You don't need to flash a ROM to get rid of the OTA popup. Just root, install Titanium Backup, and freeze the app called "Software Update MUC".
My Recommendation

My advice, 2 options:
Stay on 11a
Stay rooted
Stay w/TWRP 2.6.3.3 (freegee)
Flash CleanRom 1.0
Flash 12b modem
Install Xposed
Install G2xposed
and Prosper!
OR
Install Digital Dream 2.1
Take 12b update
Reroot using IOroot 1.6+
Install Freegee (TWRP)
Install DD 2.1
Install Xposed
Install G2xposed
and Prosper!
* Always make a nandroid backup of stock rooted and move it to the PC * Get familiar with ADB commands * Read threads past the 1st ten posts or last ten posts *Thank those that have helped you * If I can't BRICK it neither can you * Enjoy!

How to flash monthly updated without losing data?

So I'm on the stock rom from Google now and rooted my phone via TWRP to gain access to XPOSED and other goodies, how am I supposed to take the OTA updates? I tried downloading the factory images from Google and flashing the recovery of my build number, but that didn't seem to solve the problem. I know that I can use the flash-all script, but that would wipe my phone. So basically, what do I do? Also, is there a way for me to not have to flash new whatevers each month and just be able to take OTA updates no problem, or is that something that rooted users just have to deal with?
Dude. In this same section, approximately four posts above yours is a stickied guide from Heisenberg. READ IT. There is a section in the guide that specifically explains in great detail how to update to a new build of the stock ROM without losing data. After reading that guide, if you still have questions, feel free to ask.

I clicked on the guide and it is approximately 87 pages long. Do you know where in the guide my desired information is?
whatever question you have you can find that by using "SEARCH BOX" anyways here is your solution
