Probs with getting into recovery menu

Hey XDA
Im having a little problem with my Magic.
I would like to flash a new ROM, but i cant get into the recovery menu.
Here is what i do:
I have installed the latest version of SDK on my computer.
I then connect my Magic with the cable, and when Vista comes up with the note saying that want to install the software i tell it to use the drivers that are in the SDK/usb_driver/x86 folder.
I then turn off the phone, and press and hold back button + power button until the phone shows the "3 androids on skateboard" menu.
Then on my computer in the cmd prompt i write: fastboot boot recovery.img, and the the cmd prompt says: <waiting for device> and the nothing else happens, the recovery image dosn't show up on the phone either.
I have checked with adb devices that my phone is connected.
Are there anyone that can help me with this problem because its beginning to annoy me alot, i would like to root my phone and flash another ROM.
So any help would be much appreciated.

And fallowed this before fastboot.
First, setting up your PC (I'm going to assume you're using windows for this) to work with Android in a debugging enviroment.
1. Get the latest Android SDK from here (http://developer.android.com/sdk/1.5_r2/index.html) and unzip it into a convienent directory (most people use C:\Android\, so I suggest you do the same). The result should be something along the lines of C:\Android\android-sdk-windows-1.5_r2\.
2. Set up your phone to work with debugging drivers. The method of doing so can be found here (http://developer.android.com/guide/...ing/device.html) in the "Setting up a Device for Development" section, steps 2 and 3. To test that it works properly, open up a command prompt and navigate to the tools directory (C:\Android\android-sdk-windows-1.5_r2\tools). Type into the prompt:

adb devices
If it returns your device and serial number, then you're all set.
3. Lastly, grab fastboot.exe from here (http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/adp.html) and place it in the tools directory of the sdk.
Next up, rooting.

Thx for the answer, but there is a problem with one of the links you posted, the last one of them (http://developer.android.com/guide/...ing/device.html). it dosn't work.
But you also write something about the SPL, i dont know if i have the right SPL, how can I see if its the right one i have? I've tried reading the link about the SPL, but my problem is that i cant even get into the recovery menu, so i cant flash a new SPL either, or am i wrong?

To check your SPL just boot up fastboot (back + power) then just look at the top and see what it says. Then check on the first link I posted and see if your SPL is rootable or not.

Sound like you're not using the right Recovery .img

HBOOT-1.33.0010 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-12
If what im reading at the first link is correct, my SPL cant be root'et, or im not reading the first link correctly?
And if i need a new SPL, how do i flash that one? and what SPL should i choose? and last, how can i then get my SPL back to how it is now if i need to get the phone to repair?

Afraid your not going to be able to root right now. It's in the works though so it might be soon.

Damn, thats a load of ..... (sorry).
I have just got my phone back from the repair shop because the camera restarted the phone everytime i tried to use it. Before i sent it to repair i had no problem rooting it or getting in the recovery menu.
But can you tell what the problem is? is it because the recovery image dosn't work with my SPl and the recovery image guys need to "crack" my SPL first or what?

Here you go read This on the SPL. By the way which phone do you have? Is it a Rogers Magic? Just good to know what's not rootable, you should post your phone details in that thread if it's something not listed on the first page.

Its a HTC branded magic, dont know if its a rogers. But im from Denmark, and bought it in Denmark. dont know if that helps.

Btw. can you tell where i can see how far they are in "cracking" this SPL?

HELP!! Bricked phone

Well as the title says i bricked my phone
it hapened when i tried too gain root with a (whitch i didnt know at the time) obsolete guide described here http://theunlockr.com/2009/07/08/how-to-root-your-htc-magic/ i did all that it said should bee done but now when i boot i only get too the htc magic screen and it freazes there
since it is a software issue it MUST bee posible too reflash it with a workin rom or something like that but all methods i have tried have failed to help me and i have tried numerous both methods and img's and update.zip's
soo if you have sugestions (or better yet a solution) please post as a maniac

What device do you have and what ROM did you flash? In recovery, did you you do a backup?

i used the rom provided on the page and no i where stupid/cocky enough to not make a backup
after it didn't work i tried several ather rom's (thinkin it might have been a baad rom to start with)
but i where thinkin (after reading this thread that maybee i could fin the .img files hee mentions too re-flash somewhere on the web, but no luck so far

Go into fastboot mode and tell me which board you have by rebooting and holding down the Back button and pressing the Power/End Call button
PVT32B use this recovery image here
and any of these SPL's found here and any ROM labeled 32B

Connect to pc via USB
fastboot boot (enter recovery here).img
Unplug from USB
Apply update.zip from the menu list

i have the 32a model, but first of what is this spl thing and is it not nessesary for the 32a model?
and second of if it is could you post a link to that aswel and maybe a guide on how to flash spl's (like can i put both the spl and the rom on the flash drive at the same time and save the whole proces of takin the sd out of the phone to transfere files to it?)

If you need root then you NEED the SPL. All links are provided in my last post. Follow the instructions for the 32A device
Yes you can put both the SPL and ROM on the same card at the same time, make sure you label them differently like update1 for your SPL first and update2 for the ROM. Use choose update option in recovery in the menu list in order to see both

i tried this rom because the rom frome the tutorial didnt work and now it's workin (still have no clue what went wrong the first many times...?)
but do you know a way to check if i have root already?

Go back into fastboot and check whether security is off S-OFF, well you already flashed a custom ROM so that's indication there

[Q] Htc Magic 32A Semi-Bricked

I did a mistake and now im asking for advice because i dont want to brick it for good.
This is all i can see on my device after i tried to run the RUU update to 2.1 with sense
If i try to run again the RUU it says ERROR [170]: USB CONNECTION ERROR

First you must flash custom recovery,and then enter it and flash ENG SPL like 1.33.2010, and then you must download eyegor's radio switcher and flash all new and then install new rom

This is my first time , but i still don't know the steps , i am very confused.
I have read about similar situations where goldcard was needed or a RUU solved the problem
If a RUU can solve my problem too it will be great.

Do you have Windows 7 or vista? I think i had same problem i did it on WinXP,which phone do you have Rogers Magic or something else?

I have found 6-7 diferent RUU but only one can actualy see the phone and that is the RUU that actualy did this to my magic , the RUU update stops at the signature ,so with different os i may have a chance?

Here is the thing you can download only 1 RUU from htc site, you must go to country you are from select the right HTC magic i think you are using Rogers magic and then you must enter you S/N there and then you can download it. And install it on winxp. I must ask you something which android do you have 1.5 or 1.6?

I have obtained my htc RUU from my country site but when i try to apply it can't find my device sadly, i think is like you said only works in xp i will try today.
Now i have a goldcard but i dont realy know what to do with him , how can i use it to restore my phone.

First of all you cant do RUU when you have CM6 it will brick your phone totaly, you must downgrade you phone to original Rogers 1.5 you should batter install some custom made Android made of rogers i created my own,be carefull very carefull.

So in my case is total brick?
How can i downgrade? and witch custom android?

If you want Rogees 2.1 android you just need to change spl (which i can give you,can you enter recovery?and which do you have),second thing is to use eyegor's radio switcher and just press flash new button via fastboot,and the restar to recovery again adn install rogers stock rom with root(which is like original only with root).and i must ask eyegor something so be patient

I can only enter in Fastboot , that is the problem the phone don't allow me to enter in recovery mode.
In my case a goldcard is useful? because i did one following a guide but i don't know how to use it stupid me

I never did goldcard but i know this that you must follow those instructuions if you made a good goldcard you must flash the right eng spl which is 1.33.2010 and if you do that right it will unbrick,and you must then install Custom recovery it is RA's 1.7.0H. When you finish that download eyegore's radio switcher and enter fastboot again and flash new option if do that right then you can boot to recovery and install ROM

1) The reason you don't get connection to the RUUs is because you are in fastboot mode.
RUU needs adb connection mode
2) You have the wrong spl/radio combo. That's why you cannot boot your device to any system. To fix this you have to change the spl to 1.33.20xx version, where the xx can be 05, 09 or 10.
3) Following the logic from option 2 you have a problem!
The spl you have now is a perfected one, meaning you can't do anything with it. So changing only the spl is not possible (as fare as i know :0)
4) Following the logic from option 3 you have to use a goldcard and flash a sappimg.zip or sappimg.nbh.
Both will try to overwrite ALL data on the nand and restore the device to a state where you again have some control over it.
The solution)
You have to make a goldcard and use a combitable sappimg.zip/nbh.
Try this one:

Put the file on the root of the goldcard. Reboot into hboot or fastboot... let it work... when done restart and post the result here :0)

I'm pretty sure your hosed. Once you run an RUU and it fails your stuck with RUU USB until a RUU is ran properly. Which wont happen in your case.

if you have a goldcard, put in your device and flash with RUU rom.
if you didn't have a goldcard, download your original rom from HTC website and flash it
if you have non branded device, choose unbranded rom.
but if you have branded device, choose your branded rom.
i was semi brick (stuck in RUU mode) my device twice, and this solution working well for me

[Q] Need help!! i think i semi bricked My HTC MAGIC

Hi everyone
First im super noob to this i have used this forum to update software on my windows mobile device but android is a lot more dificult if you are noob.
Ok to start i strugled to get fastboot working but after aboout 3 days strugle i managed to get it working.
Then I flashed amon ra 1.70 and then after that i installed the engineering spl and then a custom rom. i cant remember the name of the rom but i have double checked that it is for HTC MAGIC and also 32A. after i flashed the rom i cant boot the phone it stays on the vodacom splash screen the first screen when i put my phone on.
I have tried numeres other roms but no luck it just doest want to boot!!! I can still go in to amon ra and still use fastboot if that is a help.
I can send all the details of the phone tonight when i get from work. But any help will be graetly apreciated.

I just upgraded the SPL to 1.33.2010 and still stuck on the boot screen.
I tried to install the rom again using fastboot flash system (rom).zip and it didnt work i dont know what to do must i also update the radio and if so how and where can i get the radio.
Please i am realy clueless now on what to do thanx for the help so far.

Okay, now you should have the right SPL and Radio. Start your phone in Recovery and connect it to your computer. Choose USB-MS Toggle and your phone's SD card will show up in My Computer. Copy the following files to the root of your SD card:

and safely remove the card using. Press Home on the phone to go out of the MS (Mass Storage) mode and then go to Flash zip from SD card. Flash them in the same order that I gave you above. When it's done, choose Reboot and it should boot up into a fully-working nightly build of CyanogenMOD.

All 1.33.20xx where xx can be 04,05,09 or 10 do work for that radio. So you are not right on the one. The problem is simple, either he/she does not give enough time for the "new" rom to load all the way ( which is 7-15 mins) or he/she did not do a wipe before running the rom.
Do this and it WILL work:
Download my fastboot commander from my signature, magic version.
Boot into fastboot and start the tool.
Go to "Misc" tab. Select all partitions (in the RED box) and click "erase chosen partitions".
Go to "Magic 32A" tab and click on "flash new".
When done, reboot into custom recovery (hold home + power together for 5 sec and let go).
Use the trackball to navigate.
Use the "usb-ms toggle" and copy this file inside the sdcard.
Press home on the phone to return to menu and then select "Flash zip from sdcard".
Now select the file from above.
When done choose to reboot into system, and ENJOY :0)
NB: it will take like 10-15 min before the system starts up.

Oops. Could have sworn .2005 only works properly with the 32B radio. My bad. Oh, well, he has 2010, which should be fine for all old-radio ROMs.
@Reaper21 To get you a bit more confused: 32A Magics (like the one you have) can run two different radio/spl combinations. One is the one you have (SPL 1.33.xxxx + Radio 3.22.xx.xx) - called "old radio" - and the second (SPL 1.76.xxxx + Radio 6.35.xx.xx) is the one you need to run most SenseUI ROMs (but others too - you'll spot them because the developers mention they are for the "new radio" or "6.35").
If you want a clean Android experience, closer to the default user interface, you can run CyanogenMOD and ROMs based on AOSP (Android Open Source Project) - most of them need the old radio. These have the advantage of always using the latest version of Android available.
If you want the fancier - but sometimes slower - SenseUI you can use the RCMagic (the one mumilover recommended), CleanMagic and others. The user interface is a lot friendlier, but you have to make do with Android 2.1 (instead of the latest official version - 2.2.1, with 2.3 coming up). This won't normally be a problem. I, for one, prefer SenseUI and I'm guessing mumi does too
Use mumilover's commander to switch between new and old. It should be safe, as long as your phone's battery is charged and you don't unplug the cable or anything

Dude thank you you are the best its working again booting into the mod and working fine accept the reason i Wanted to do the software is that for some reason my Sim cant cant register on to the network. I Have tried all 4 networks in my country and none work it just said that unable to connect to the network at this time try again later.
Can this be a hardeware fault?
But thanx at least the device boots and i can use GPS again

htc sappher messed up bad

hows it me again well i need some expert help for another htc sappher from my freind and its realy bad , he's flashed a rom and messed up everything dont know how though.
no recovery and the Hboot is S_ON
i cant flash a new rom or SPL cause theres no recovery and becouse i got s_on i cant use that to flash anything so im stuck and i need help.

Turn phone off. Turn on by pressing Back + Power (it's fastboot mode). Write here first 5 rows. All symbols are important.
In fastboot-mode check command:
fastboot devices (it it would return serial number - connection is fine)

As you have 32A Magic, you can upgrade to new hboot/radio combination, then downgrade (if you want)

So the problem i got is that theres no goldcard?
How would flashing another rom help me i cant flash it with no recovery.
I have fastbootcomander but i cant use that couse of s on, and i cant push any files there adb couse its on a ready only file mod.

OMG . There are too many problems together...
Ok. Try to understand what can happen...
1.
You need create goldcard. Search for kingston or transcend sd-card. Make goldcard from it. You can use any Android-phone from HTC. You can ask friends.
2.
I think that problem "no sdcard detection" depends on radio stuck. But when you will run RUU - it does not use sdcard at first step (probably). RUU will try change phone into RUU-mode to flash images.
But. Even if RUU would flash new hboot and radio, it might stuck when flashing ROM (system image), cause at this moment RUU compares CID from phone with CIDs from ROM. Different CIDs will get error and phone will stuck at RUU-mode.

I see ,ill make a goldcard and flash the ruu and see what happens. Thanks alot bud for your help ill keep it updated if all gose well

this sucks , ruu is having problems with the usb connection and i got no recovery still ofcoruse and bootloader is s_on H.

1. Solve it. Install Htc Sync, it has drivers. The best configuration - have 32bit Windows XP.
2. Additionaly, you can boot into fastboot-mode (back + power), then run Ruu. But drivers are more important.
P.s. in rare cases there are problems with usb-cable (when it is not stock), or with usb-port (rear usb-port 2.0 is preffered).

Ok I flashed the ruu Rom ,what's the next step to getting s_off .
Iv tried to use the acs supertool but my spl is not supported. I'll give you the full details when iv got time but that's the news so far

What exactly do you have? 401.3 or 401.1 ???
