[Q] Verizon Droid Skin on HTC Evo

I don't know if skin is the right term or not, so apologies in advance if it's not.
I saw a friend user her Verizon Droid today and was very impressed by the native look and feel of her apps--everything from her Settings menu to her Mail menu.
Is there a way to get this same functionality on the HTC EVO?
ROM would be the correct term in this case.
I'm sure you're referring to the Moto Droid which uses motoblur which is nearly AOSP (Android Open Source Project). AOSP is the operating system that google created and you can find it on their devices like the nexus one and nexus S. HTC modifies the operating system (called Sense). To get the AOSP look and feel you have to root your evo and flash a new rom to it. Its a bit intimidating at first but unrevoked and recovery images make it easy as pie. I would be happy to walk you through the steps if you want to start flashing some custom Roms.
Thanks for the terminology correction--much appreciated.
I actually already rooted and Cyanogen running. I've been too scared to go to another ROM, but if it's not too difficult, I'd appreciate the guidance!

AromaUI - can someone explain in plain english?

I don't get what AromaUI is. The website's description is written in awful English, and that Chuck Norris reference just makes things worse.
Can someone please do a simple short explanation without any Chuck Norris/Bruce Lee/whatever jokes?
Its like a customisable installer. When installing a rom you get different selections, for example in the runnymede AIO rom for Desire, you can choose if you want the sense 3.0 or 3.5 camera, while installing the rom in recovery

Thanks! Customizable ROM Installer - that should be written on the project's page. The page is too ambiguous to understand!

Sense ROM control?

I tried installing two different romControl.apk files suggested in different forums but neither worked.
I'm new to Sense roms and have a couple of questions (trying blackout ICS v 2.1):
1) is it possible to change the lock screen apps from the settings?
2) Is it possible to turn off the trackpad pointer?
3) Is rom control something that exists for Sense roms, or is it more of an AOKP/AOSP rom thing?
Thanks in advance, I'm quickly getting hooked on the Glacier forums thanks to the great community here.

1. I don't think so, but I haven't run that ROM.
2. If you absolutely must do away with the pointer you could delete the .png from framework-res.apk and recompile it. That is a very fickle apk. It likes to cause bootloops, so be careful.
3. ROMControl is not for Sense.

hopefully someone answers our prayers lol
Same!
When y'all are asking for a "[MOD]", does that mean you're looking for something you can flash with a recovery mod?
If yes, I know CyanogenMod adds this feature to the stock dialer. However, I don't know if that's something you can just extract the phone .apk and upload. However, if you're able to flash would you consider flashing a new ROM anyway? Most nightlies of the big roms (CM10.1, AOKP) are usually really stable on Nexus devices because they have all of the proper drivers & source for everything. Nightlies aren't as stable on other phones because they're missing device-specific drivers and such.
If no, then nevermind. I don't know of an option to add this ability to the stock dialer. Sorry.
exDialer
Been using this since I got the phone. Skinable, no ads, and quick

A couple of the custom ROMs have this feature (Paranoid Android being one of them). You can either flash one of the ROMs that include it, or try to extract the dialer apk from it and try installing it.
I would prefer a new modded apk over a new rom. Anyone have the apk from cm10?

[Q] New to Android root. Need advice.

Hi,
I am a iphone user since 2009. I recently decide to made a switch to Android. I am waiting to receive my first Nexus 4.
Some question about rooting:
1 ) iphone jailbreak community has Cydia, where you can install theme, tweak, package, repo. How is it different in Android? My impression is that we have different custom room with different features. Is there a way that user can install individual tweak, package from different sources to stock android?
2) With cydia, I tried a lot of different tweak, themes to make it more customized for me.
It would be great if someone also came from cydia world can elaborate more on the your experience btw cydia and android custom world.

So I can start with rooted stock android and install individual tweak, package to make it similar to a custom rom, right?
It doesnt make sense for me to install the whole custom just because of 1 or 2 feature. Each custom rom will have pro and con, so I am trying to see if I can pick the best out of each.
Not sure if that is possible

Yes you can root the phone and the pick up your tweaks you want. I would go with custom rom as you dont have the headache to manually install any tweaks n all. Rest upto you.
Press thanks if I helped you..

You can also get the stock package + the custom ROM that sounds most promising to you, then edit the stock package while comparing it with the custom one, it's the method i used :good: this way, you can have full control on what mods to include and learn quite a lot
