HD2 Rotation - HD2 General

Hello. I am the proud owner of a new HD2. I have also had a TP2 for about six months and they are very similar except for the much bigger screen, the loss of a physical keyboard and much better speed.
I have already Hard SPLd the device and it is running Energy's newest ROM (I have been using his on my TP2 for months and love them) just for the faster speed (supposedly) and better icons across the top. I am also running the newest version of SPL Shell which I love so far.
However, I would really like the thing to auto rotate. I am used to the TP2 rotating for me or at least when I snap out the keyboard. I BsB came with the ROM and I have it trying to rotate SPL but it is not doing what I want. For one thing to register the program you just have to run it and shake. I did this and it looks like it appears in the menu. I can get the carousel to rotate (with some shaking and effort) but that is about it. Any suggestions?

Gyrator is what you are looking for....http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all
Alternatively find and install BSB Tweaks.
WB

Actually he said he has BsB and that it does not work.
I don't know what do you mean by 'carousel'. Anyway .. calibrate your G-sensor first. Then you will have to reboot after the shaking (ie. close BsB, and it will ask for reboot, say yes).

He probably means SPB Shell (which has the cool carousel) and I wonder if BsB Tweaks works with that. Wasn't it made for Sense specifically?

What the HD2 really lacks

About a month ago I upgraded from my old trusty and excellent HTC HD to the new HD2.
After a few tweaks, haks and fixes and some downloads, I was extremely happy of my HD , in fact the only real improvement in the HD2 to me seems to be the much faster CPU (which of course is not a little thing)
However there are a couple of major gripes (or just lack of aternative options) on the HD2 that I find particularly unnerving, prominent among which is the excruciatingly bad Kboard.
It's even worse than the one I've got on my HTC Hero which has a far smaller screen.
On the HD I had installed "FingrKboard" which I found simply excellent; is'nt there something similar that would work on the HD2?
Or maybe do you think that the same .cab file that worked on the HD's wm 6.1 will also work on the HD2 wm 6.5?
Second major problem with the HD2 is that I still have'nt been able to find a (good and possibly free) registry editor for it.
I have read about some very interested tweaks for the HD2 in the threads of the forum, but they all require the use of a registry editor, which one would you suggest?
And again: would I be able to install and use one of those I had on the wm 6.1 of my old HD(1) ?
And last (and probably least too): would "Gyrator" ,be installable and working on the HD2 as it did on the HD1?
No eh?
And do you know of another app that would make the screen turn from portrait to landscape with all apps?
Even if you could point to the solution to just one of my conflicts with the HD2 , you would have accomplished your Xmas good deed by making very happy a poor afflicted geek.
This is the way you might earn your place in heaven, you know ?

FingerKeyboard worked on WM6.5 on the HD1 and works on the HD2. I found it to be superior to the standard HTC keyboard.
There is also a cab file that reduces the sensitivity of the screen on the HD2. This is supposed to make typing a bit easier although I have not personally tried it.
For registry editing, I use PHM RegEdit. It's a free program.
I use Resco Explorer and once you've downloaded that (for free), download the registry editor add-in (both cabs on the Resco site)

Resco Explorer will eventuall need a key to fully register the program. I do however second Resco if you can buy it.

The registry editor stays unlocked though. I actually never use the Explorer part but you're right, that gets locked after a few days so you need to purchase it (if you want to).
Try Swype as a keyboard. I found it on this site and haven't looked back! It has an amazing input method and is not as over-sensitive as the native HTC keyboard. Check it out....

I second PHM RegEdit.
Simple, easy to use and free.
Thanx fellas.
I had both PHM regedit and fingerkeyboard because I had downloaded and installed them on my old HD(1) and Samsung Omnia i900 ( of which I got rid long ago) , now I have installed them on the HD2 and they work great.
I wonder which other win 6.1 apps will work on the big screen and win 6.5 of the HD2.
Dutty (one of my heroes) for exemple had to modify Cyberon voice dialer to get it to work on the HD2 because as it was the standard version would'nt play together with the HD2., so not all HD apps would be usable on the HD2.
I wonder how Gyrator would behave in the new environment.
Oh, and thanks very much for the link too, very interesting and useful.
I hope I'll be soon able of being of some help too.
BSB tweaks for screen rotation mate
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589305
Thanx Carlos, I have already installed the awesome BB Tweaks and now I have also cheked the "show standard windows setting" box, but I still can't find the menu you uploaded with the screen turning option.
Where is it hidden?
Is there any particular option I should enable?
I have enabled nearly all of them anyway but hat option still eludes me.

Run BsB Tweaks and open the menu - Rotation is in there.
Hi there..
Dont mean to flame or anything like that.
But the title of the thread suggests that you arnt happy with the device.
So we start reading your post.
But its all just software features you lack or want to change.
And that does not really imply the hardware exclusive to the HD2.
@ Johncmolineaux
Thank you mate, I looked for it for 2 days, maybe I should wear my glasses more often.
@ Enonoid
I'm sorry if from my title you or anybody else got the impression that I was'nt happy with the HD2: I bloody love it man!
I just wished to find a few apps, progs and tweaks to which I got used with my old HD1 (which I loved too).
I also have an HTC Hero and a Nokia N97 ,which after Nokia changed camera lens, camera cover, GPS chip & software, installed ROM 2.0, optimized memory, and gave me for free one year subscription to the latest OVI maps for Europe, has become a great phone too; but the HD2 is my fav hands down, even though as an OS per se I like Andrid more than WM 6.5 (mainly because of the marketplace and the awsome free apps available).
One must be a brainwashed Apple fanboy not to like like the HD2.
Gyrator works fine on the HD2

Swype is the next generation keyboard, amazing. I am running it on the HTC Touch HD, although it will run much better on a capacitive screen, more sensetive the screen the better it will work.
Yes, Swipe rocks, but after BB tweaks adjusted the screen sensitivity of the standard kwerty, and the FingerKboard, they have become absolutely excellent too.
The only problem is that I can't put any of those in ladscape position.
I have tried to reinstall Gyrator but it does not seem to work on the HD2 it seems made for devices with styluses and resistive screens.
Did anyone find a way to type messages, notes, etc. in landscape?

TF3D versus SPB Mobil Shell

So, still awaiting the day when I can grab my Imagio. SOON! Anyway, question for all you users out there. Just opinions, as I have not worked with either one really (I played with SPB on my iPaq, but memory sucked on the iPaq, so no good comparison).
Which do you find better in terms of usability, finger friendlyness, and overall customization? TF3D or SPB Mobil Shell?

I have to say SPB all the way. It seems faster to me and certainly more customizable. My biggest complaint about SPB is that the weather doesnt get my locale from GPS.
Thanks Mike, but just lounging around a few posts, actually ran into a poll regarding this question, so feel like a duffas for not finding it earlier in my previous search for just this subject. Kinda a landslide for the touchflo, so will see how I like it, and if not, will try SPB, or may even run Androkkid to see if it will work with 6.5.
So, I am trying the demo of the SPB Mobile Shell. I noticed that the carousel doesnt 'float' when I tilt my Imagio, is that becouse its just a trial version, or is there something else going on?

I think I am wrong on that. Mine moves on touch but not on tilt.
I tried to activate the 3d acceleration, thinking that might be it, that froze up my system, had to do a soft reset. I think it has potential, but it seems more to be eye candy to me. I think I will stick with the stock TF3D, that seems to actually work better for me.
Edit - Actually, after soft reset, it works, sorta. I thought it would rotate based on the angle of the phone (g-sensor), but it only 'floats' with my finger. Still eye candy, wish it would also rotate to landscape.
TF3D for me

After using both, I really like the stock TF3D because I find that SPB is just too cluttered with eye candy. TF3D is more refined and it is at least as functional as SPB, perhaps even more so. It's definitely more streamlined and better organized, imho..
Yea, just had to do a second soft reset, this was after trying to remove it! So even though it really looks cool, I need something a bit more stable, functional, and effective.
I use both, i like the SPB shell most of the time and when I want to experience the TF3D i just go to the today tab in the settings and under the Items tab either tick the Launch TouchFlo 3D line which give user option to activate TF3D from the today screen or just tick the TouchFlo 3D line to activate when i hit the ok button on top and then go to the Today screen and there it is in all its simplisity. when i want the spb shell back i either reverse the process or tap on the start tab in the upper left coner one time then hit the back button.
I think you should try the maxsense ui rom that energy roms has cooked up. but you have to understand custom roms and how to flash. Id do a google search of maxsense and watch some reviews. it a cross between mobile shell and TF3D.

Alot has changed since I started this, I have my Imagio now, and have allready thrown on one of NRG Sense ROMs with the addition of CHT 1.8.5.1 as well. I have switched between Sense, ThrottleLauncher, SPB, Androkkid, PointUI, and Infinity.
Each one has its strengths, as well as weaknesses. I find Sense to be the most stable, but limited in customization compared to the others. It does very well in putting what I really need right there at the home screen. And the ability to have 4 home screens is nice. Limited to what 'widgets' and where they get placed is unfortunate, but I think that the effectiveness of CHT and Sense outweighs those issues.
TL has some great strengths in regard to the plethora of themes out there, the customization, and the ease doing that type of work. Disadvanges to me is that its not very stable, and gets a little quirky sometimes. But again, all the things I can do with it make up for the occasional soft reset.
SPB to me is really just a toy to show off. I have tried it three times now, and just can't seem to get something that I really like. I have a hard time navigating between everything, and again, its limited in 'widgets' as well, and no, I haven't tried all the different themes. But there always seems to be something that causes me to soft reset at least once a week.
Androkkid is fun as well, but the graphics aren't the best. It really is super easy to use and super easy to theme and customize, but there isn't alot of stuff going on with it. It was great for my old iPaq, but not as good for my Imagio.
PointUI is just way too freaking hard to figure out. I have tried multiple themes, multiple installs, and it never works right. Weather doesn't work, time can't change, I could continue to list, but don't have the time.
Infinity is probably the one that I would consider the most stable aftermarket UI out there, unfortunatly, its a dead UI, as the developer hasn't done anything in forever. Its super smooth, easy to customize, and I especially love the bubble's SMS capabilites! Its perhaps the most stable out of all the UI's I have tried, without one glitch that I can remember. I just wish there was more interest in it.
So I will continue to help the folks over at TL work on their themes through testing, and continue to use Sense whenever I am just working normal.
thanks for the input though! Its best to say that this thread is actually closed.

auto rotate, shortcuts, does flashing turn an HD into an HD2

Hallo boys and girls. Thanks to this forum I have learned how to flash my Touch HD ROM and have had fun with several different ones. But I still find a few things I can't find the simple answer to and I promise I have searched a lot before posting.
1) Rotation. Some ROMs seem to auto rotate, some partially autorotate, some need G-Sensor and some use MaxManila. I can't quite work out what is supposed to happen. Is there such a thing as a ROM where every screen rotates without having to do anything. XannyTech with MaxManila seemed to rotate everything but only after rotation is switched on (derr). With G Sensor, you seem to need to access each application, do the stylus thing and reset.
Have I got that right or am I missing something blindingly obvious?
2) Is it a Touch HD or HD2? Sometimes when I am looking for other apps, there are versions for HD and for HD2. After I have installed the new ROM, does my device "think" it is an HD or HD2?
3) From many posts, I gain the opinion that Sense (Manila) 2.1 is not as hard on resources as Sense 2.5. But shortcuts to programs are only available on 2.5 (I found someone working on this for 2.1 but not released yet). I think Agenda view is also only on 2.5.
4) On most of the new ROMs I flashed, the phone can hang quite badly sometimes. It seems to be mostly when accessing contacts. I have gone back to a ROM with Sense 2.1 now to see if it is a 2.1 vs 2.5 thing. Is there something else I should try, is it to do with HTC Messaging or just part of the fun of trying different ROMs?
5) And how should I work out whether to install an app to device or storage card - which is "best" and why?
Trying different ROMS and reading the posts here is good fun (mostly) so thanks to you all for that. But sometimes to flash and re-set up everything up so I am ready for work with everything, satnav, contacts all ready and working for Monday can take quite a long time so your help is always appreciated. Thanks.

having trouble enabling lanscape mode

I just got my US hd2 the other day, and i'm having trouble trying to enable landscape mode on it. I tried to download mortscript but it didn't work. Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi, There are number of tools are available to you for rotation. BSB Tweaks is the only one I have personally used but Gyrator was mentioned again the other day (a quick search of XDA should provide lots of information on screen rotation).
HTC's concept of rotation and use of landscape appears to be that it should only be enabled where it provides the maximum benefit (messaging, browsing, movies etc.). I have seen nothing which successfully allows the Sense Today screen rotation to landscape (I haven't done a lot of research on it though to be honest). This is contrary to the likes of Samsung who are less restrictive with the facility (the Omnia rotated almost everything, with whizzy transformations too )
Hope this helps.

Looks really good. There appears to be a newer version available (Elegance III). I've never heard anyone mention landscape themes in previous discussions surrounding this issue. I'm guessing I missed some.

List your HD2 mods

I'm kind of a NOOB here, sorry...
I have a Tmobile US HD2 that I'm pretty happy with. I've looked through the forums, and have installed some of the apps, made some of the registry changes, etc...
That being said, there's a TON of info on the forums, so I thought it might be a good idea to ask everyone to list everything they've done to their HD2's in one place. I'm pretty happy with the way mine is currently set up, but of course I'm interested to learn from everyone else's knowledge and experience here. Thanks!
So here goes...
My info / proposed format in the next post
Here is my info...
TMobile HD2
Software Information Tab:
OS 5.2.21889
Manila 2.5.20121412.1
ROM 2.10.531.1 (82076) WWE
ROM Date 2/22/10
Radio 2.08.50.08_2
Protocol 15.34.50.07U
Mods:
No flashing of radio / roms (are there even any for this phone yet?)
Software:
Cookie's Home Tab Mod
CHT Editor
CM WiFi Internet Sharing
HTC HD CommManager_3G (Modified the registry so I didn't lose push/wifi function)
Dutty's Task Manager
MichyPrima HTC Lockscreen 2.0 WVGA
Other:
I keep my 3G off most of the time, and keep my lcd backlight at 20 or 30% to conserve battery life.
you really may wanna take a look around the forum. there are allot of ROM's for the HD2 and I personally am running Energy 6.5.X series and have all of them but the HD Mini mod cooked into the ROM.
Thanks!
Yeah I've looked at the Energy ROM but I'm not quite sure I'm ready to take that plunge just yet. Can you give me your opinion of why I should? Part of the reason I started this thread was to see what others have done and where they started from.
Are you using a US or EU model HD2?
What ROM/Radio/etc... did you start with.
I also have the US TM HD2. I mainly installed Bsbtweaks, chainfire 3d driver, lumos. Otherwise it's stock.
I've also been tempted by the com manager 3g, but the first time I installed it I lost wifi option. I had to hard reset to restore everything to original. I might look into it again at some point.
not so much a software mod...
ive put a small peice of tinted film over the flash l.e.ds so they dont wash out everything within 3 metres!

joshzzz2001: I know that Cookie Monster (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625483) highly recommends the chainfire 3d driver. That carries a lot of weight in my book. I haven't installed it myself yet, but I will with the 1.7 version of the CHT Mod which should be released soon.

I think it helped for MorphGear. MorphGear didn't really run the games until I installed the driver. (This isn't conclusive since I didn't do extensive testing.) For regular HD2 use, I can't say I notice a difference since it probably doesn't require too much graphics processing.
This is great! Thanks all... Keep em coming!
Thanks for the participation. This is exactly what I was looking for.
I've replaced the Michyprima HD Mini Lockscreen with Chris10230's Middle Lockscreen...

This moves the standard lock slider from the top of the screen down to the middle, which is perfect.
I agree about the BsB tweaks, I've installed and am running that and it's great.
Question: What's the Chainfire 3D driver do if you're not into gaming?
CoOkie Home Tab 1.7 is RELEASED!
Just installed CHT 1.7 and am working on the CHT Editor now. A must have for the HD2!
