Problems flashing hspl2_1024 **solved** - HD2 General

Hi all, I'm a total noob at this but I've read every possible thread about the Tmous 1024 HD2 concerning flashing hspl2_1024 and the error code that says failed usb connection.
My problem is a bit different from the others' problems but I'll try to be as thorough as I can.
Let me start off first by listing my phone and all of its "stats"
TMOUS HTC HD2
Ram - 576MB
Flash - 1024MB (I'm guessing that this is the ROM size)
OS version - 5.2.21889
Manila Version - 2.5.20121412.1
ROM version - 2.10.531.1 (82076) WWE
Radio Version - 2.08.50.08_2
SPL - 2.08.0000
I'm at the very beginning of the process (flashing the hspl). I've read mskips tutorial backwards and forwards several times.
The first problem is that WDMC doesnt pop-up when the phone syncs with the comp. Matter fact, the green WMDC screen has never shown up on my comp., not even when I go into the start menu and click WMDC (I've tried every usb port on the comp and have visited microsofts website and downloaded and installed their WMDC a few times). All that comes up when I click WMDC is the connection settings that says Device connected.
The second problem is that when i click the next screen on the hspl2 install window, I get an error window that says something about rapi.dll not being able to be found (i get that error twice and then it seems to resume installing).
Following that, I get the usb failed connection error (a couple minutes later) and hspl2_1024 closes down. My HD2 never goes to the tri-color bootloader screen. I've tried going into the bootloader screen prior to installing hspl2_1024 but that didnt work either.
I'm completely stumped and have searched this forum for the answers to no avail. I've done a hard reset and tried again, but that didnt work. The only thing I havent tried is putting the hspl2 on my sd card and doing it from there, which from what I've read over the past few days is basically considered a no no.
I need help and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Would have pictures but the forum wont allow me to post any.

Flashing TMO HD2
Back up all data on your phone before flashing.
This is what I did and worked.
Assuming you purchased the HD2 in the US from TMOBILE.
1. Change your sync settings on your phone to use Active Sync not the usb.
2. Plug in your device to your computer. Hopefully it recognizes your phone. (If it doesn't then you might need to re-install the windows mobile device center)
3. Once connected run HSPL2_1024. Follow instructions there and should connect. Your phone should have the RGB screen. HSPL program will prompt you which version you want to install. I used 1.0 as it was the only selection
4. When completed it should say something with "HACKED"
5. Reset your phone by taking out the battery for 5 seconds.
6. Once it's powered on it should connect through Windows Mobile Device Center.
7. Now it's time to flash your custom ROM. Hopefully you have the CustomRUU.exe file together with the nbh file.

Mine never comes up either,
click start and start typing 'windows mobile .....' in teh search box and you should see it come up in the list. (round green icon)
either right click that and choose pin to start menu or drag it to the desktop as a link, then you can start it manually. You should find that once you are using it, it starts to come up on its own 'most' of the time.

never mind it seems my computer is to blame... issue solved!

Unable to update ROM on HTC TouchHD

Hi all,
I have an HTC Touch HD (1.56). It was tied to Orange Poland, but I have SIM unlocked it with a web service. Now I wanted to try some different ROM (my main language is italian, but english would be fine as well -> as of now I've only been able to partially set language to italian changing registry code, but most of WM6.1 is still in polish). I have tried the HSPLWrapper_Blackstone_156OliNex.exe with no success.
If I just plug the HTC to PC USB cable, ActiveSync wakes up and connects.
I can browse inside, move files, install apps.
When I start the wrapper this is what happens:
1) with advanced USB settings ON (on HTC) the tricolour screen does NOT appear and the wrapper says Connection Error [202]. ActiveSync is ON and ready. -> if I start SSPL-Manual-TouchHD on HTC, the tricolour screen appears, the USB text appears, and on both wrapper and HTC I can see the progress bar at 0%. After a minute or so, the wrapper says there was a problem and shows the recovery procedure (I was never locked on tricolour screen, I just had to remove battery and everything was back to normal). If I try again the wrapper while the tricolour/USB screen is still there, nothing happens, and I get connection error.
2) with advanced USB settings OFF (on HTC) the tricolour screen DOES appear automatically when I start the wrapper, but no matter how fast I am pressing YES on HTC, the USB connection gets killed and ActiveSync disappears.
I have tried 2 different USB cables on different ports (no hub), rebooted PC several times. I have read the 3 wiki pages (HTC_Blackstone_Flash) and the OliNex procedure. What can I do? Can somebody please help me?
EDIT: I am trying this from Windows XP Pro up to par with WinUpdate (.NET 3.5 and everything else is there)
Thanks
You can always try USPL.
But first make sure you follow this exactly:

Hope it helps

Help on upgrading HTC P3300

Hi all.
I have been reading in the forum for hours and hours, without beeing able to find an easy way (that I understand) on how to upgrade.
I am an old (retired) man, and not stupid (I hope) but have a slight consentration problem.
I want to upgrade from WM5.0 to Windows Mobile 6.1
(+Opera Mini, support for 8GB SDHC and TomTom 7)
I have: a HTC P3300 ARTE100
IPL 1.12.0001
SPL 1.12.0000
GSM 02.67.90
OS 1.12.0.0
ROM version: 1.12.405.1 WWE
ROM date: 9/12/06
Radio version: 02.67.90
Protocol version: 4.1.13.28
ExtROM version: 1.12.405.101
The device is not locked (I belive) because I can use any SIM I want in the phone.
I have tried to flash to SPL 1.11.cmon, but ended up with SPL 1.11.0000
So I downloaded and installed HTC_1.12.405.01_026790_WWE_SHIP This put my phone back to original, (SPL 1.12.0000)
Synced and copied enablerapi.cab and Cert_SPCS.cab Disconnected, and ran both of them.
I tried to run start_uspl.exe, but it will only try to update from current rom ver. 1.12.405.1 to ver.9.99
And after a while I get a message on my P3300:
Unable to open log file....
tiny_console_init done
And ROM ver. is back to SPL 1.12.0000
Suggestions anyone?
ok pm me and i will walk you though.
first update to the newest version of active sync thought.
next make sure your device is fully charged.
next back up all data from your device. flashing a new rom will erase all data.
next cid unlock read the first post and download the attachments
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308242
after you have done this pm me.
as for opera just download one of the many prepacked opera cabs. here is a link to one that should work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=281464&d=1266292843
to my limited knowledge of sdhc support and the p3300 all of the cooked roms have sdhc support cooked in. so when you get a newer rom on your phone sdhc should work.
Arggggh
I can use any SIM in my phone. Is CID unlock really neccesary?
I downloaded pof's Artemis_USPL and ran it, but it seems nothing was changed.
I too wants to change the ROM ver. from 1.12.405.1 to ver. 9.99
And the link to: HTC P3300 WWE factory rom - is dead.
But I found HTC_1.12.405.01_026790_WWE_SHIP another place.
I have also found and downloaded AndreW82_WM6.1_21056_Lite_v1.4_WWE.nbh
But am afraid to try to install it since my ROM is not ver. 1.11.cmon.
Here is what I have tried so far:
Downloaded Artemis_USPL
Synced and copied enablerapi.cab and Cert_SPCS.cab
Disconnected, and ran both of them.
Booted and Synced.
Started start_uspl
(wich opened a dos window)
After 10....20.... and so on, phone softbooted.
Message on phone:
UNABLE TO OPEN LOG FILE
TINY_CONSOLE_INIT DONE

Checked: I understand... and clicked Next
Checked an confirmed preparation steps, and Next

Phone on - connecting USB - phone syncs.
Start start_uspl.exe - at 100% screen goes white.
Softresetting - waiting for sync - then confirming on PDA Phone Update Utility.
(The uspl.zip i got from raving_nanza)
After it has finnished, phone boots - and I still have USPL ver. 1.12.0000

Hi
Tought I should not try to install the .nbh file if USPL was not 1.11.cmon.
Btw:
One of the first steps is to take out the SD-card. Is that what I am doing wrong?
(Should I copy the AndreW82xxxx.nbh to my SD, and have it installed when I run the uspl/RUU?)
...
this is 1.11.cmon.. just try it..
...
take out sd card..
dont flash andrews rom..
do uspl with the one ive just uploaded on this thread..

This is obviously where I miss something.
the RUU_signed is a .nbh file.
So how do I start it?
Should I use activesync and put it on the phone and some how start it from there?
Or should I put it in the same folder as the uspl cmon, and then run the uspl?
Or is there another trick that I have missed?
put it in the uspl folder and overwrite the one inside..
then do uspl..

"Error 270 Update error"
"The image file is corrupted. Please check uour update utility."
(I am using XP sp3.)
(But this time it at least tried to update from 1.12.0000 to 1.11.nosize)
I also tried renaming the ruu_signed to arteimg.nbh
Seems my phone has some kind of lock on the SPL 1.12.0000.
Can it be write-protected in some way?
And if so, how can I "unlock" the write protection?

Asuming SR means SoftReset - I tried, but it did not help.
Same Error (270)
So I tried again, and again.
Cert_SPCS.cab and enablerapi.cab without disconnecting nor syncing the phone.
Then start_uspl.exe, and on white screen I just started (or rather continued with) the RUU.
WOOHOO - on 3. attempt my SPL changed to 1.11.cmon
So, if you read this post, and have the same problem as I had, here is how to do it:
Download attached file, unzip it, and read the install.txt

1.1.cmon is 1.11.cmon
dont forget to thank POF
glad you done your spl now, which rom you gonna use, i suggest the andreW82 rom or the babbelut rom..

I have a slight consentration problem, so I forgot that I am only half way.
I have downloaded a couple of .nbh files (AndreW82, Touch 4.02, Tom Black v5.0).
I have not yet decided wich one to use.
I want to install TomTom7 and Opera Lite + support for 8GB SDHC.
Now I just have to figure out how to install one of the .nbh files.

[Q] Issue with Radio Firmware Update.

Specs-
OS:
5.2.21892 (21892.5.0.89)
Manila Version:
2.5.20121412.2
Rom Version:
2.13.531.1 (90963) WWE
Radio Version:
2.10.50.26
Running the HD2 from Tmobile (578mb).
Issues-
When I run Leo_CustomRUU with the radio firmware (Eugenia Project - HTC HD2 Radio ROM - 2.12.50.02_2) renamed to RUU_Signed.nbh - it goes through all the prompts and it will eventually stop with an error message about communication errors with usb.
I tried several ports and even hooked up an older system to make sure it was not my rig. The usb on both machines works fine with activesync or as as mass storage device perfectly.
I was able to flash with HardSPL3 without a problem (got the We hacked it screen).
Yet, when I tried to flash the radio it gives me that communication error. If it helps I also get a similar error when trying to flash the room (I tried Energy.Leo.21679.Sense2.5.Cookie.DinikGlass.Sep.24).
Why am I trying to flash the radio firmware? My ultimate goal is to run Froyo. I have copied to the Android folder on my SD card a version (despite my best efforts to be specific on all other aspects, it escapes me the version I am running. I know it is froyo, I just do not recall the builder or version) and I am getting the dreaded robotic voices when I try to make or receive a call. So, rather than troubleshoot my android rom, I am looking to downgrade the radio and see if that solves it as from the pages I have read this seems a likely culprit.
I thank all in advance.
Update:
I found out that using HSPL3_PKG had not put my phone back to 2.08HSPL as it said.. it was still at 2.10. So, I tried highlighting the 2.08 regular, and it did go down to it. Yet, after trying three more times, it is not taking the 2.08HSPL. Anyone have any ideas?
Fixed:
Fourth time is the charm? Works now though.
Did you make sure you have an ActiveSync connection before trying to flash anything?
Dr.Jekyll,
Yes. When I connect the USB it asks for which way I wish to initialize it, I choose ActiveSync. That program starts up, syncs and stays green in the system tray.
I then double click on the Leo_CustomRUU program and click through the steps, the HD2 goes to the HTC with the progress bar as well as the program's progress bar.
It just sits there and does nothing. After about six to eight minutes, it will just speak of a communication problem and error out.
I do not know if this matters, but I am running XP Pro SP3 and ActiveSync 4.5.
Hi,
Why not flash from SD?
1. Rename the .nbh to LEOIMG.nbh
2. Copy to root of sd card
3. Shutdown device
4. Hold vol down and power
5. Follow the introductions
6. Press power button to flash rom
As taken from http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=615095
I seldom flash through ActiveSync WMDC, always from Storage card.
Cheers,

When you connect to PC via USB does the word "serial" change to "USB" on the bootloader?
At what point on the process do you get this message?
I'm talking about the hspl process btw.
If you don't have the right hspl (2.08) nothing else will work.

Here is a few suggestions for the OP.
One try changing USB ports, try all ports on your computer.
Uninstall ActiveSync/WMDC and then reinstall it, make sure you download the latest vsrsion from Microsoft.
Try deleting all of your USB drivers and letting them reinstall when you connect your HD2 to your computer.
Try another USB cable if need be.
Finally try another computer if you can.
Create a Gold-card. It will bypass CID checks and allow you to flash. Just search for the topic here on XDA. If you can't get this resolved, I can also write a custom CID to the board via JTAG for you to fix this problem.
connexion2005 i will create a gold card and see if that works Thank you very much i will let you know if it doesn't work. how hard is it to create a CID?
Gold card :_(
The Gold Card is not doing anything, every time I do Vol Down and power the tricolor screen pops up and then goes to the white screen where it says "loading...." in blue but it doesn't move from there.... what should i do in that case?

I really hate to say it but I think you may have physical NAND problems. The NAND is where Windows Mobile or any OS that you flash to your HD2 is stored, or to help you understand it is where the ROM is flashed to when flashing a ROM. If the NAND chip has too many bad blocks it will not allow you to flash. seeimg as you have tried everything including a gold card, this is the only conclusion I can come up with. The only fix for a bad NAND chip is to replace the main board. Sorry to be the barrer of bad news.

Look in the HD2 Android Q&A and General foum or the HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A and General forum, I know I seen a thread on doing this in one of the two forums not too long ago. If you use search make sure to use advance search and select to only search thread titles, and if you can not find it through search than go page by page until you have went atleast 25 to 30 ages back just reading the thread titles. I am sure you can find it.

[Q] HTC HD2 : Software update failed

Hey,
My sister has given me a HTC HD2 to repair which she tried to upgrade from windows to android but screwed up somehow. I have given this phone to a local service center but they failed to do anything about this.
Whenever i am trying to turn on the phone a message pops up ' Software update failed, please try again ' and after that a white screen shows the message
' Loading... ' but after that nothing happens.
Can anyone give me a link where i can find to step-by-step process to repair this phone to use android or windows. I just need this phone to work properly. Doesn't matter if the OS is android or windows.
Ok try this, make sure you have the proper version of Windows Mobile Device Center or Active Sync installed on your computer, this software has the USB drivers you need to get the HTC Sync connection with the bootloader. Go to Microsoft.com to find this. Next go to HTC.com and find the correct stock RUU of Windows Mobile for your HD2. It should have the region that the HD2 come from and the carrier the HD2 was originally used with in the name of the RUU. Boot the device up into bootloader by
powering on the device and holding the volume down button down. Connect it to the computer via USB and wait until you see Serial in the White bar of bootloader change to USB. Then run the RUU as administrator. Also make sure you take the SDK card out before you boot into bootloader.
after that a white screen shows the message
' Loading... ' but after that nothing

There's a rom on the SD card.
Thank you guys for your replays...
Now the problem is when i'm connecting my phone with my PC windows mobile device center shows not connected...is there a problem with the phone ? is there any other way out to sync the phone with pc...and i'm not quite sure about the region i should pick...does it really matter ? I mean the region....if it does how can i be sure which one to pick ?
As Sam said it is a LEOIMG.nbh file on the SDK card. You will have to remove the SD card from the device so this doesn't not cause problems. Also make sure to delete the file before you put the SD card back in the device.
Now make sure you have the appropriate version of Windows Mobile Device Center or Active Sync installed. Next boot the device into bootloader and wait for Serial in the white bar of the bootloader changes to USB. This means you have HTC Sync connection. You can then run a RUU. You do not have to have to use Windows Mobile Device Center and it does not matter er if Windows Mobile Device Center does not show you are connected. As long as it says USB in the white bar of bootloader you are synced up with the computer and can flash via RUU or flash HSPL or SPL.
If you have a T-Mobile HD2 do not use a RUU that has a radio version that has a 51 in it. The radio version will be in the name of the RUU. Look at the example below, the radio is in red. Notice the 50 in the radio, if it is a 51 here do not flash that RUU as it will brick your HD2 if it is a T-Mobile HD2.
