BB messenger-like app for android

I've been searching around for something like this. All it needs is phone signal. This would be convenient when I'm in another country. So yeah, are there any apps like this? Paid included

The ones i can think of are the ebuddy, im+, meebo and imeasy

yeah but those require data connection. BB messenger doesnt, it sorta like has its own private network

But then wouldnt you need a connection to the BBM servers? Which most likely means u need a cellular or data connection.

You definitely need a data plan for BBM it just used signifigantly less data than most cause it does all the thinking n rendering on blackberries end.
On that note, the bad news is that there is definitely nothing comparable in android. Check ebuddy but you're still going to need a data plan, even with a BB.

Try kik messenger, I dont think you need a internet connection for it, I use it all the time. It's in the android market, and its free.

They all use either a data connection or sms as far as I know. What other ways are even possible? Using the GPS to send it over a satellite, or ultra far reaching bt/wifi...
PS:The last sentence is sarcasm...

BBM uses an internet/data connection to acces BB's servers. You therefore need a data connection/plan to use BBM.
If you're looking for something similar, try the Ping/Pingchat app - it's cross platform (BB, iPhone, Droid) and works in a similar way to BBM (using Ping's own server network).
You'll still require a data connection (need not be wifi, or 3g for that matter) - so you ay even want to stick with something you already use on your computer (google chat, msn, skype etc via multi IMs like Nimbuzz, Fring...the later two can use Skypeout to make VOIP calls)

All apps need a data connection
WhatsApp is your best option. However, it's still in closed beta for Android. When it is released, you will be able to chat with iPhone, BB, Symbian, and Android users by just having their phone number in your phone book.

Oh I see. I was under the impression that bb messenger works over cellular networks because it has its own network. Thanks for the clarification guys. Mehh blackberry step aside for android

i've just got the invitation to use it ,installed it and it sends to iphone but not receiving

Yahoo video call update

SO I never though yahoo could ever do. This..... I was video chatting with my fam from Italy and videocalling with yahoo app.... when I had a update from yahoo.... I though I was gonna get a new update for better video quality or something. So I updated it and guess what happen..... f*yahoo video call didn't work no more...... I think they are. Gonna give some exclusive right for new phones commin. Up next year..... what you all think of that

could you point me in the direction of the version that worked from you- did you originally get it from the market? the one I got from xda (ripped from a tmobile rom) did not work on my epic- thanks in advance

The same version from xda work for me but like I said.... thanks to the greatest yahoo update it gives you a FC I can up load the app with the extend file and u could try it if u want

that version must not have been out long... but i did dl messenger about a week ago and sure enough no video support. only for iPhone, according to their site... i thought engadget was just bragging about it coming to android.... ofw.

Now immediately after I install yahoo forces me to update and then I just get constant force closes

hey guys you know what, mine works fine just uninstall your yahoo mail it will work promise, but first uninstall mail and messenger then install messenger then add on..

I don't have yahoo mail and I still can't do video call u care if u post the apps and addons here....so I can try again

I'm sorry but I forgot to tell u I'm using TMO G2. idk when I opened first my ym it says I have to update bcoz its not compatible with yahoo mail, what I have done is uninstall yahoo mail, messenger and deleted video call add on then reboot, DL ym from this thread not the one from market and include the add on then I installed it it worked for my phone.. hope it works

No wonder ......that app is created to sopport that phone for now....that what I know.... I believed yahoo notice about this app working in any bilt infront camara.... so they have to take it down or patch something so it won't work with other phone but g2(exclusivety for t-phone to not said the right brand name....(lol)that's how u sell more phones)u know how the flow goes with usa brands and companies

No its not supported I just DL it from this thread its a hacked leak software were not allow to use this that's why they updated it, I'm just telling you I can still use my video call when I woke up this morning I cannot use my ym it says its not compatible with yahoo mail that I need to update it, I tried a couple of times then I uninstall yahoo mail, messenger and addon then reboot it DL the file from here not from market(don't install mail)then poof it works I'm just trying to help if it don't work then I'm sorry

I actually like Trillian. Sure, it's $5 (used to be a free Beta), but it's got a boatload of features, is quick, clean, and integrates perfectly with Trillian for Windows. I can be using it in bed/on the sofa, then go to my PC and the conversation I've just been having is there ready to pick up and carry on, and vice-versa.

Use EBuddy, works great and it's free.

I use this one too, but I really dislike the fact, that it changes my quick message, and adds "on my mobile with ebuddy messenger"...
Anyone knows how to remove this?

tried Trillian
Liked the look of it but had issues with it not letting me log into Yahoo, i could set my account ok but it would only connect for a micro second then diconnect, msn and google worked well tho.
shame
using Meebo at the moment as an alternative.
Also didnt like Nimbuzz much either

If you use Facebook chat it posts "on my mobile with ebuddy messenger" as your Facebook status without your permission. That's the one annoying reason why I stopped using it and switched to nimbuzz!

It depends on what you're after I guess in a client. I have Meebo IM, MSN talk and eBuddy.
Meebo IM and eBuddy have more client support. But as an MSN client alone, MSN talk is very hard to beat in my opinion.

Try IM+ and IMO.
After I tried all, they have proven to be most reliable and stable.
And have support for all IM services.

I'm using Ebuddy because it integrates all Chat Clients (FB, MSN, Yahoo, etc.), got a good UI. Had no problem yet regarding to facebook posts like "online with ebuddy", did never posted it. Only drawback I would say is that you cannot send files (corrent me if I am wrong), for instance you cannot take a picture while you are in the chat window and send it. Nimbuzz could do it (used it before), but its quite big (5mb).

Thanks for your recommendation. I think eBuddy messenger is best choice, who want to use MSN messenger on HTC Desire.

MSNTALK is the best! allows grp convos! Theres also trillian

Is Mercury MSN is available on the Android Market? Can you share the link. After concluding all the instant messaging application for my Android phone, i think eBuddy messenger is the best option for me. Because it is the best solution for multiple accounts e.g MSN, Yahoo, GTalk, Facebook, AIM and MySpace. You just need one messenger to log-in to all of the above accounts.

If u r on the 3 network goto planet 3 and get the proper msn. I dunno if it works on other networks tho . As said b4 ebuddy etc if not on 3 or it does not work on a non 3 phone

For my the best app msn is Epinephrine (before MSN TALK)

Trillian is the right choice.

You've gotta go to the battery saving mode for C2DM push to work

Trillian and Beejive both have some annoying little bugs, but they are by far the best of anything I have tried. Beejive is a little on the costly side, but I used it back before my first android phone when I was a bit of an iSheep and it was very solid. They seem to actively develop it, though I haven't seen an update for a while now, which is disappointing when you drop that sort of coin on a mobile app.
I tend to swap between the two based on whatever mood I am in on the day, but I hope beejive will one day be as smooth as it is over in iphoneland.

Nice, APK worked perfectly on my Inspire 4G!!

I'm a bit confused as to why they didn't integrate this with the main app. The main app has chat builtin too but it's a bit cumbersome to use. And god knows why it's incompatible with out phones.

Does it have group chat? And my problem with the app is that chat and messages are separate even though they are integrated in the site itself

My bad it is on the market, when i saw you guys requesting apk, i assumed it wasn't on market. Nice find, been looking for this for a while, the ability to send a message from my phone didn't think it was possible, i guess I never looked hard enough.

For those who dont have this install MarketEnabler and set it to US, then download it from the Market.
This one works for the Chat portion which is iffy on the official App. I dont get why they dont just integrate it like on the site though

It has Group Messaging. Which is the same but from a Messaging instead of Chat perspective. This is a Messaging not Chat app.
How the main Facebook app doesn't merge Messages/Chat is really annoying. This is how it used to be on Facebook.com, it must be at least a year ago but they've never bothered to update the app. I get Message notifications for people trying to Chat but as the app doesn't understand the merge, they never come through.
It's miles better than the Message section in the main app and properly supports Facebook Messages/Chat threading, whereby both appear in Messages.
I've turned off Message notifications in the main app. There's no point getting two notifications for each message.
p.s - Some messages are missing. I open a friend and some of the messages that appear on Facebook.com aren't there in the app.

is just your facebook inbox with the added group message...
no chat or anything..
works when you have the massage notification and dont want to visit the mobile site all the time..
maybe they release this app because the message section on the regular facebook app is not working properly..

I imagine so but why not integrate it? The one in the main app is broke and this should replace it. It's pretty slick.
