APP where it saves your email setups for every flash? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

I constantly flash my phone monthly and its a pain in the [email protected]# to setup all 4 of my email accounts. Is there an APP that saves the info and can easily restore every time we flash?

What you want to look for is something called RapiConfig
It will get provisioning info, email accounts wifi info from your device and make it into cab files for you.
Got to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366337
Then search that thread for RapiConfig. There is a lot of info there but it should get you going.

Another option for building the files yourself is here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=113189
I did not know about RapiConfig...I'll check it out as well.

One more option is Makisu, which is a MortScript app for generating XML files with your credentials. I've used it for my email accounts and for storing my wireless network keys. It comes bundled with Sashimi over at winmo-experts.. if youre constantly flashing your phone, its well worth spending a couple hours learning and setting it up

Damn they are all so complicated. Anything simple like PIM Backup?

SPB Backup will backup and restore the PIM data. I've never actually tried to see if it restores the email settings, but I believe that would work. I've used it to restore all the appointments and contacts, but the email accounts were always already on the phone.
It is not free, however.

Removing corrupt mail account

Hi Guys,
My Hermes was replaced by Vodafone as most of the front buttons died after 60 days. As I could not be putting up with reinstalling everything on another 'PDA' yet again, I bought SPB Backup and did a full backup of the old phone and restored it to the new one. Everything works 100% - except:
SPB Diary shows my mail account, called 'PD', but it won't Open it. Messaging doesn't even show the account, but if I try to create a new 'PD' it says that an account with that name already exists, so I guess something is missing or corrupt.
I can create a new mail account with another name, but it nags me that the old data (or part of it) is there 'somewhere' so can anyone point me towards a file/folder/registry entry I can delete to get rid of the duff account.
Many thanks.
PS: Yes, I have posted in the SPB Backup forum but a few others have had similar-ish problem and there's not much in the way of advice.
Try completely cleaning up the e-mail accounts by SKTools 3.x. It will delete all your mail-related stuff (incl. other accounts) so save your stuff first.

There isn't really need for a full tutorial - go to PIM / Delete PIM information, select the name of the mailbox (for example, "mymail") and Delete, followed by Yes / No.

Thanks for that - I will give it a go.
Edit: Well, I downloaded and installed SKLite for WM5 smartphones and it won't run - a window pops up briefly and then closes.
If you're not afraid using the Windows Mobile SDK, see my thread on rapiconfig (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=283128).
First, you can query information about your accounts.
Then, either try setting the authentication fields, or, use the nocharacteristic element to delete the accounts one by one.
You'll find documentation looking for »nocharacteristic EMAIL2« on MSDN.

Saving settings

With all the numerous ROM’s being put out by the cooks, it’s a flashing haven. That being said, it’s also a huge hassle with trying out the various ROM’s to constantly have to reenter all the information i.e. contacts, email settings, proxy, camera, etc. Now I believe the sim card only stores 230 numbers…what if a person has more? What the easiest way to back up all the settings and quickly restore them once flashing to a new ROM?
I have a mail2web account that automatically synchronizes my contacts, calendar and to do lists for me. I've even cooked it into my personal ROM... the proxy settings, I've partially cooked but haven't taken the time to fix the mistakes that I did... the camera... well, there isn't many settings for the camera that I change, so I haven't bothered to change them. Any UC compatible ROM can be configured with a properly setup provxml file.

Keep
It
Simple
Stupid
Active sync does all the work I do nothing . It stores all my contact info , calendar dates , notes , favorites in Microsoft Outlook. I am no big user of it but its the easiest way to be sure to have all my contact information.
I can also save the info in various ways from outlook to export anywhere I want to . But with no computer knowledge all you have to do is make sure all the check boxes are checked for the information you want and its done with no work on your part mate. If you need screen shots let me know and ill even make some ....
pimback up works like a dream and its usually on alot of the cooked roms. you dont need a computer because you can save the file on your memory card. its very fast to do backups and restores.

Most of the settings are stored in the registry.
Once located you export every registry value and create a CAB out of it.
After every hardreset/flashing you can run it automatically by UC ready ROMs or manually.
That's my way of hassle free flashing and testing, always have my settings automatically loaded after hardresets or newly flashed ROMs
My personal "All-in-one.cab" includes settings for
camera
ringtone
email-tone
SMS-tone
German hardware keyboard layout
hardware keyboard lighting
deactivate keyboard sliding sounds
backlight
power
start menu
GPRS
mail2web ActiveSync
bigger threaded SMS input space
many 3rd-party software-settings (Opera, S2U2, TotalCommander, pBar...)
etc.
It's a PITA job, very very time consuming espcially hunting for the reg values,
but in the end you will enjoy it every time you flash or hardreset.
HardSPL, UC and a All-in-one CAB is the perfect combination for our hobby.
Well, you asked for the easiest...this is not

Im using the new Energy rom, 06/08. I set up all the links in facebook to my contacts, but as most of you know the energy ROM gets updated often. Im a flash junkie, so I follow them.
Is there any way I can export the links, it took me about an hour to link them up and im not going to do that every week or so.
Thanks for your time.

You can use SPB backup. The only thing is everytime I restore my contacts It restores every contact twice and I have to go through and erase them. Pim backup backs up contacts but I dont know how to carry over the facebook links.
Yea I know how to backup my contacts. Infact they sync to outlook. I just dont want to have to restore the facebook links everytime.
Thanks for your reply
this would be very helpful for me also. i too am an energy rom user & would luv to know how to backup the facebook links. dscottjr81 can you verify SPBbackup does work for this?? i also wonder if Sprite Backup would work? i know PIMbackup does not carry over the facebook integration.
anyone?
maybe the facebook stuff is in the facebook.vol in your root directory? \facebook.vol
just try it
facebook.vol is for the facebook application produced by microsoft.
you use the link your contacts in the manila contacts page, right?
I have nothing else of facebook installed, and have the \FacebookInfo.vol on my phone, so I think thats one of the files for the "manila facebook" ..
but here is another solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538513
Il back that file up and restore it see if it works. Il also use your link in the event it dosnt work.
Thanks very much.
I have over 75+ facebook links in my phone, so having to do them all again would of been very troublesome for me. I did however figure out how to backup all of the links and current PIM information for your phone.
Backing up and Restoring the ENTIRE PIM(Calendar, Contacts, Tasks) and the Facebookinfo Vol file is the only way to get your Links back intact.
Before you do this, you should do the following things to prepare for the restore. If you have an active sync partnership with a computer allready, in your active sync settings on the PPC for that connection, set you sync conflict mode to "Keep items on my device". This will prevent dupes from appearing in outlook on your PC as well as on your phone. If your synced with an Exchange server or google mobile, unfortunately the Exchange connector lacks this feature. You'll just have to manually De-Dupe those.. Sorry.
When all of this is done, Download and Install Total Commander (Google it). Open total commander and in the root of your device, rename the "pim.vol" and "facebookinfo.vol" files (If they exist. If not, then fill out your personal card and link atleast one facebook contact). Once these are renamed, copy your old pim.vol and facebookinfo.vol files into the root, and soft reset. You should now have all your contacts, tasks, calendar entry's, and facebook links.
Edit: I just checked my gmail account after doing this method (Which is being synced via the exchange connector) and I only found a few dupes which may of been left over. Post your experience if you do this as well.
Try using microsoft my phone, looking at the details it has synced to my account it saves the fb links as a note, ive not reflashed the phone since i got all my links connected, i only got the phone yesterday and am trying out my 1st rom since moving over from the Kaiser. Loving the diamond compared to my old trusty heavy Kaiser.
I have always used Microsoft my phone for backing up, i like the sync my location as if i ever loose of get my phone stolen at the press of a button it will tell me where it is

My phone does not backup/restore facebook links. I'm not sure if it is even aware that manila creates them. Where did you see this in details? The sync details in my phone is very basic and doesn't say anything that detailed. When I look at the sync settings in the latest version of my phone, it doesn't even give an option to backup notes, and there is no mention of notes in the online profile either. Where did you see this?

Grabbing contacts from nandroid backup, different rom

i was running modaco 2.2 for a few days, then i installed aosp 1.6 which i like a LOT better. I did a nandroid backup before the 1.6 install, and then did a wipe.
now, is there any way to get my contacts that were backed up with nandroid onto my current rom? i have a backup of modaco and an aosp backup, i need to get JUST the contacts out of my modaco backup...
:/
Try mounting the SD to your computer, going into the nandroid folder, and see what you can find.
- restore your Nandroid backup
- back up your contacts with a known working app (e.g., WaveSecure)
- zap back to the AOSP ROM
In the future, I recommend syncing your contacts with Google... MUCH easier to manage. Pay attention to the "sync groups" option to avoid syncing contacts you don't want.

I thought syncing with google is one-way. That is, the phone pulls contacts from your google contacts but does not update your google contacts with new numbers/contacts you add on your phone. If I am incorrect, I'd like to know how to keep the contacts both on my phone and google in sync.

Appointments sync both ways.
Syncing contacts with google is your friend, even if you don't like the idea of backing up contacts in the clouds. I'd suggest making backups online and on your desktop. A little overkill, but you never know if you'll lose one or the other

On your phone open up your contacts app and using the trackball scroll to the right until you highlight "groups". From there, you can press Menu and be given the options to sync whichever contacts you want. Now, since your contact list is already establish you'll have to do some re-arranging so everything is organized both on the phone and online.

A new answer to an old question...
If I should just leave this thread alone and make a tutorial, let me know. I was searching for the answer to the question in the OP, and when I couldn't find an answer, I just messed with it for a while. This is for anyone else who ever is looking for this and does a search that pulls this up like I did...
1) Be rooted, have a root file explorer on your phone, and have 7zip on your computer,
2) Put your SD with the Nandroid backup in your computer. Open the backup with 7zip.
3) In 7zip open the data.ext4.tar file.
4) Navigate to ~/data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/
5) Pull the databases folder out of the Nandroid backup
Now that you have the databases folder out of the backup, you need to push that to your phone. There are several ways to do this, (adb etc...) but here is one way.
1) Plug your phone in to your computer and enable USB Mass Storage.
2) Drag the folder into your phone somewhere where you will be able to find it.
3) Use your root file explorer to copy the databases folder from your backup, and replace the current databases folder located at ~/data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/
VIOLA!
When you open your contacts, all your old contacts from the Nandroid backup will be there.
*** Please let me know if I should put this somewhere else. I know resurrecting an old thread isn't usually good, as it doesn't help the OP. I can post a tutorial if needed, just let me know what forum to put it in, I am new around here. Hopefully this will help someone in the future who has this question. I wasn't able to find it anywhere.
wow your an idiot thx for bumping a thread thats over a year and this shouldnt even matter u can back up all your contacs on your sd card or through your google acount so epic fail for u
Wow man, I already said sorry in advance for pulling up an old thread. There are times where your fancy little backup idea doesn't work out, especially if it isn't your phone, or its too late... I searched for a long time for a way to do this and didn't find anything.
If my post didn't help you, that's your loss, but don't flame me for trying to help guys in the future...
And your fail comment doesn't quite account for all situations. Chill out and be a little more receptive. I'm new to the forums, and that right there makes we want to say "screw helping people" --- I don't think this is the message you would like to send to new members of a forum that you might ask questions on some day.
I'll take my advice elsewhere... As for you, go read a forum that helps you and quit flaming me.
Can we have a moderator delete my original post? Clearly it wasn't appreciated.

Dude, I needed this exact procedure tonight. Way faster than a backup/restore/restore, even if your backup works. So we can both be idiots together, I guess. Thanks!!

Lost setting of mail etc

Yesterday I suddenly lost all settings (not files).
It was a routine day. I power off every night. In the morning, all settings are lost:
HSPA cannot connect. I need to run the setup of the mobile operator data (touch the data connection of the settings->Wireless Control tab)
Wifi lost their SSID and pwd.
Exchange lost the password, but not the server name etc.
Windows live and hotmail lost my credentials.
Inbox lost my POP3 accounts. However, the POP3 accounts are still present on the Sense Messaging tab.
Anybody has similar experiences? What might have triggered it? What could be done when it happens? Yesterday, I created all my POP3 accounts afresh, and re-type password to every place listed above.
It just happened a second time.
Sense messaging still knows the account exist, but details (server, id/pwd) are lost. I found it easier to edit the account in Sense, which will re-create the account to Inbox (last time, I did it in Inbox, and it won't allow me to use the same account name -- it says account already existed).
And I noticed that MalekoUK has a similar experience in this thread.

You can solve easily your problem with sashimi and makisu applications by bengalih.
Install sashimi and its plugin makisu on your sd card, run sashimi and go in "customized plugins" and run makisu
here you can save your email and wifi settings in 2 (or also one I think, but am not sure of that) xml files
when your settings are lost for some reason, you can use makisu for providing the xml files you have created and, in few seconds, you have your email and wifi settings back.
I recommend you to learn the usage of sashimi....a "must have" application for me!
Greetings
lost email settings
it happened to me after I unistalled swype. I suppose swype is the problem here.
I use official ROM 1.66
Yes I experienced the same thing with swype installation on italian 1.66 stock rom, but I solved in few seconds with the xml previously created with makisu.
That doesnt solve the issue though. Only takes me a minute to enter everything back. Just shouldn't disappear in the first place.
this has happened to me a few times...weird and annoying...
