New HD2 , 5 typically good questions

Hello,
i've bought 1 HD2 and i've 5 questions to ask. Some should have already asked & answered, i'll read the entire HD2 topics in some days .
1 - I can't connect to my home WIFI. HD2 finds my network, and my router accepts HD2 Mac address. And i've already entered the password (i could have mistaken the password). Now there's a "wheel" always "turning" (searching? for the wifi network). What can i do to solve this?
2 - What can i do to make a complete backup of HD2?
3 - It's very easy to HD2 activate phone connection for internet, how to control this?
4 - What program should i use to really close programs?
5 - This is the most annoying one. Synchronizing with Outlook 2007 (with Windows 7) isn't correctly functioning ...
I've made a "inbox\folder X" with e-mails before 2009, and the others e-mails are in the "inbox" or in folders ("inbox\folder(s) A... B ...") inside it.
The idea was too synch everything without e-mails received or sent before 2009.
Results: 1st time it didn't synch all messages in "inbox" and "Sent", 2nt time it did't synch "inbox\folder(s) A... B...", neither "sent" and its subfolders too.
What can i do to solve the problem? Or should i use any 3rd party software?

1- Make sure you are typing the password correctly and that the access point is not filtering Mac Address. Make sure also that DHCP is enabled.
2- Download and install Sprite Backup on your mobile. You can find it on the Internet.
3- Make sure you disable the Auto update each application uses like weather, stocks etc.
4- Download the default Task Manager that will replace the HTC one. You will be able to close the applications by taping on the X at the top right corner.
5- Sorry I am not running Windows here so not much help.

Hi there. I'm equally new to this but found for question 4 to try this -
Navigate to Start/Settings then at the bottom select Menu/All Settings. Next click on System and scroll down til you see the icon Task Manager, now click & hold then let go ~ a window will pop up saying 'Move to Top'. Click on this and a copy of the Task Manager will be sent as the first item in the list when you next press Start.
This was copied from elsewhere so thanks to them and it works ok for me

4 - I've found precisely the same instruction and i'm using it. But if we can do it like on Windows it's better.
2 new questions (or not...):
- My phone is unlock. What is the difference between using 1.48 ROMs that HTC made available , running hardspl ou goldcard
- i'm constantly seeing a space error, my outlook e-mails made HD2 almost full...
-- could this be the origin of the active sync error that doesn't copy my inbox subfolders ?
---can i configure in outlook or in a 3rd party sw like pocket mirror (*) to use my 8gb card as a place to e-mails, to avoid using the HD2 internal memory?

1 - check that you've entered your router password properly. Mine connects fine.
2 - PIMBackup backs your contacts up into a single file - it's a bit like MyPhone but not and online service, restores faster and backs up call logs too. Doesn't do other files. You can try SASHIMI too but that requries a bit of fiddling around to setup nicely. Once setup however it's quite good.
3 - the program's called NoData. or WMLongLife, as an alternative.
4 - default task manager is already under \Windows. Just look for exe something starting with "task"... I would suggest installing ShowCase 1.01b for closing apps instead. It's more finger friendly (wouldn't use the task switcher that comes with ShowCase though - it's nice but buggy imo). I actually use AEBPlus to assign longpress to the Windows key to bring up the default task manager - quite good.
5 - Check that you aren't running out of space in your Internal Storage on the HD2. HTC didn't leave much free space so if u have some massive emails I'd imagine it'll get full... however you should get a warning message when that happens. Which basically means you should either avoid syncing all your emails over to the HD2 or look for a way to sync emails onto your Storage Card. And Windows 7 uses "Windows Device Center" or something like that instead of ActiveSync...
6 - Hardspl isn't avaliable yet, but will allow you to flash any rom you like inc. custom roms. Goldcards allow you to flash Official htc roms of any language. If your phone is unlocked you should be able to flash 1.48 Rom of the same language as your current rom version without goldcard. Worth flashing since the 1.48 rom appears to give more free space than the 1.43 rom.

I had a similar problem with my HD2 when I first tried to connect it to my router but a soft reset fixed it (strangely). If you're sure your password is correct and your router isn't set to restrict access by MAC address then you could give this a try.

1. Sincerely, mine works fine. I'm using a router without password, but with MAC restrictions.
2. SpriteBackup / SPB Backup (don't remember if it's called as this) / PIMBackup
3. Modaco NoData will do the job!
4. You can download the default TaskManager to close the program while tapping X. Or you can use the HTC TaskManager (or eNatives Showcase) to close them after you've opened and backgrounded.
5. I never used the e-mail synchronization so I can't reply, but I'm sure that if you try to backup your data using PIMBackup, it'll backup all.

ad 5: YES, it syncs subfolders. go to Mobile Devices Centr on your PC, choose Mobile device settings - change settings of content sync - email - (wait for importing) - choose folders to sync.
Works for me with HD2, Win 7 Prof 32 bit. (basic settings is sync only Inbox, no subfolders)

Gmail delete working

i own the hd2 t-mobile usa version
so like all of you, i was frustrated that deleting a gmail off of the hd2 (when set up via imap which is automatic from the normal gui setup) didn't work.
in searching these forms i saw that many of you have set it up via activesync. this is my first smartphone and due to my ignoance, i couldn't figure that out. i have outlook via activesync which works great, but can't figure out how to setup another e-mail address via activesync. i saw this page google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299via another thread here, but when i go to active sync on the hd2, all the setup options are greyed out. (if anyone could help me here, I would appreciate it)
anyway... so i decided to press on and found this. when you have the gmail inbox open and you go to menu - tools - options - gmail - edit account setup - 6 screens over - advanced settings (really!?!? i mean really!?!?) there's a drop down that has two options:
1. move them to server trash
2. delete them off server
the default was set to "move them to server trash." i changed it to "delete them off server." i then sent myself an email, deleted it on the hd2, and unfortunately it came back when i hit send/retreive.
knowing that didn't work, i went back to the above setting and put it back to the default "move them to server trash." when i tried it again, it worked. i've done three test e-mails to verify and it works fine -- every time i delete off of hd2, they don't come back (and they are in the trash folder on gamil server).
oh the whoes of smartphones... hope this works for you. (here's 3 hours of my time i'll never get back) good luck everyone and let me know.

Awesome dude! Many thanks for this, It was always a pain to receive emails at work, delete them, to onyl get home and have them come back down in Outlook!

ok well here's an update. it apprears there's a bug in the sence gui. if you delete the email from the sence gui (menu - delete message), the email comes back.
however, if you delete from the gmail inbox (select inbox on gui -- lower left, select the email you want to delete, press delete and you get a confirmation window), it will also delete from the gmail server (move to trash folder).
can someone else verify this?

Yea, same issue here. If I delete from Sense UI, it comes back when I press send/receive. Deleting from the inbox is the only way i can get things to delete properly.

Strange thing you're talking about, until now I never encountered this issue, mails never come back after I deleted them from My HD2.
I upgrade the ROM very often and never had this issue (stock roms, Dutty's ones and now Topix ones)...

HD2 Exchange Lock problem - Not the same issue mentioned in the forums

All,
I've a problem with the exchange server settings. It looks like my admins had pushed the new exchange policy this afternoon. All of a sudden my phone is asking for a password. I had installed the "Stay Unlock.cab" which worked perfectly so far. Now, I'm getting the password prompt when i unlock the device.
But the actual problem is, when I enter the password it takes me to the password screen and asking me to enter a new password. When I enter a new password it fails saying "An Error occurred saving password settings."
Now, I cannot access my phone. I have so many applications installed and I haven't backed up some of my settings & data. So I am hesitant to do a hard-reset and wipe out 3 weeks worth of my work/customization.

I end up hard resetting.
after, 10 times of invalid password entry in the lock screen, it automatically wiped all my data.
anyway I installed hspl2 and installed energy rom, which is much better and beautiful than the stock rom. I am re installing all my applications now...

Now I have a weird problem. I could install all the apps and run it properly, but the moment when I sync my outlook with the corporate exchange account, everything stops working. It looks like the Exchange setup is blocking unsigned apps & I could not install any cab files anymore or start an already installed program like CHT Editor. If I remove the email account, everything works fine again. Has anyone come across this problem?
I'm not sure what was changed in the Exchange server. Can someone please help?

Right now, I have Kumar's ROM & I tried Energy ROM too and it looks like I cannot get around this issue. If I remove the Exchange account everything goes back to normal. I also have "Exchange Stay Unlock.cab" installed which doesn't seem to work anymore. Is there anyone else having the same issue?

Is it possible that the exchange admins put a policy to your telephone that its not possible to install software. ,Maybe that is the problem. Then when you delete email, also delete this policy and then its possible to install progs

It looks like it, before & after deleting the exchange sync it asks me to restart. after deleting the problem goes away. Is there anyway to change exchange's behaviour/policy?
The main problem is not just the installation, even the installed apps don't open anymore. Like the "Arkswtich" task manager which I use all the time or any unsigned apps I think. Opera works fine.

It looks like the policies are being updated and I cannot run or install the any unsigned app. I tried to install the cabs to "Remove app lock, unsigned app, etc..", but I can't seem to install these cabs too. Now, I can't even open the registry and update the policies key manually as I can't open a regsitry editor app.
I tried the registry editor from PC (CeRegEdit) and it won't let me update from that too. I totally stuck with this problem now.
Is there way to sign an app (cab file) or make it trusted?

I'll continue to update this thread as no one else seem to have this problem.
I used "msigner.cab" to sign couple of cab files and tried to install and it still failed saying "untrusted...". So, I spoke to my admins, those guys plainly said they don't support windows mobile. Now, I don't have an option.
I wonder, why microsoft would enforce a policy on a wm6.5 devices?
Next step.. I reflashed again, installed all the cabs I needed and setup my device. this time, I'm hoping that I don't have to reboot (I know it's tough ) after syncing up with exchange. I'll sync only the emails (in Exchange) and others through the pc (contacts, tasks, calendar).

Finally, I installed all the reg editors before connecting to exchange. Then I synced only the emails with the exchange server and before rebooting the phone, I used the reg editor to change the key (HKLM\Security\Policies\Policy) values as mentioned in other forums (sdkcerts) to 0. Now it looks like its permanent and not changing even after the reboot!

I changed the following keys..
00001005 to 1
00001006 to 1
Let me know if it doesn't work, I can export and email you the policies key from the registry.

E-mail accounts Disappeared from Leo

Hi,
did anybody experienced such a strange event ? : I configured 4 e-mail accounts on my hd2/Leo, and after about 20 days they disappeared.....so that I had to set them again .
Also disappeared the WPA password of my access-point...

Same here! I got a weird issue today morning after rebooting: my Exchange, all SMS and Gmail' account got totally empty. Actually the Gmail' account disappeared completely, while the Exchange' settings are still here but no email! I run Topix 1.5.6 (21865) since about 6 weeks without any issue, not installed any unusual app. All other settings are still here in the device (RSS, weather, etc.)
Fisrt time I ever come across an issue like this one since almost 8 years I use HTCs.

The SMS were in place....only Gmail,and 3 POP3 accounts.
Also the WIFI passwords ....disappeared...
I'm using official HTC italian ROM Ver 1.66....

If you lose your email accounts and wifi passwords, it is likely you have installed Swype 3.9. There are two CABs for 3.9 out there, one of them will destroy your phone identity. There is no cure.

dont know about others, but my wifi pw is fine, and I never heard ow Swype.
+ all of my sms are gone too.
i could fix the MS Exxhange issue by simply deselect the email' sync in activesync, and then reselect it.

Did you use the item "Reset" in your device ?
I tought that it does only a soft reset but this one has killed all my settings too.
I will never use it again right now.

I had the same problem in the past after flashing radio 2.08.50.05.
Gmail account and Wi-Fi passwords were deleted.
Also Live Messenger and MyPhone were reset and the date was set at...1980

I indeed do use the "reset" button regularly since months and I never encountered an issue before.

same happened 2 me. Wpa Password suddenly gone and all email accounts. good that i had a sprite backup. No swype or any other software installed. I have latest htc wwe rom.

well this sux i downloaded swype last night via this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6322818#post6322818 it did not work but it did lose me all my wifi p/w and all my email accounts as well as my mobile internet. i am slowly getting it back. So what is the deal with swype then?

I have had this happen a few times. And it was not always swype. Pulling the battery also did it for me. And so did installing co0kies Home Tab. One time I lost network settings. I just had to hit edit network connection and then save it. All times router security code and emails lose their settings. I have found an easy way to restore my emails next time this happens. I found a free app called Mail Account Repair.
I save the exe file on my storage card in a folder called email repair. Run the file and it sees your email accounts. For each account just fill in the settings and hit repair. Now your email accounts are saved. If they disappear again then just run that exe file and hit repair.

I had this issue twice: first time when i installed swype, second time when i installed bsb tweaks

i had a similiar issue 2 times until now. my email acc disappeared, but it was not deleted, just some kind of hidden. name, servers and pw was deleted but everything else was still there, including the emails; but nothing was visible. somehow i managed to make the account visible again, by playing around with the settings.

CONFIRMED TO WORK ON SPRINT TOUCH PRO 2 w/ WinMo 6.5 STOCK ROM

for gmail, settings are:
[Server Tab]
In Server (pop): pop.gmail.com
Out Server (smtp): smtp.gmail.com
Password: [[Your Password Goes Here]]
[Stmp auth Tab]
Username: [[Full e-mail address @gmail.com .. ex: [email protected]]]
Password: [[Your Password Goes Here]]
Domain: [[Leave Blank]]
Repaired my e-mail accounts and put them back on the homescreen correctly. Original cause was installing Swype. Thanks again!

Thanks man. I pulled the battery 2 days ago. This has to be the cause since I didn't install Swype.

Email/Gmail problem

Had 2 gmail accounts working perfect
All of the sudden they are still in the 'sense' gui.. but not in my email app..
- How do I get them out of the sense gui ??
- I fi (re)create my account it does not work anymore..
Anyone has a solution ???

I've been having the exact same problem. It started soon after (but not immediately) after I did my first hard reset. It was very soon after I gave TProfiler a try (which is now uninstalled). Don't know if the issue is related to either of those things, though.
How did you solve the Sense part of the issue?

Use the attached Program. Copy the exe to your device, start it, select the account to repair, type in the necessary data and click on repair. Your account will be fully visible/restored in sense and WM again so you can use or delete it. Works like a charm had to use it several times till now. The problem often occurs after using a full backup or similar.

I got the gmail account fixed right up. Thanks. Having trouble finding the right entries for Yahoo, though. The program asks for POP info, but I'm assuming I can enter IMAP info if that's how I set the program up, right?

Usually u just need to fill in the first informations (username, password). Most of the other settings should still be stored in the account so that you dont need to fill them in again.

Account management.. delete the accounts there
add them again.. everything ok ..
