1. find QuickGPS from Start manu, click and download a loccation file
2. use Google Map, and 'enable GPS'
3. under clear sky, and allow time for first time connection
4. if no luck, try a hard reset to factory default and try above again

Hi, go to Start -> Settings -> System -> External GPS (or similar, got a non-English Touch2) and check the settings for GPS.
Use this settings in your programs/apps, then it should work.
Hope this helps,
Greets,
Touch2er

TomTom - built-in GPS receiver without updating ?

Hi !
I installed the GPS-enabled ROM - and via RegistryEditor the GPS Icon in the Control Panel.
But when I install TomTom it doesn`t display the build-in GPS Receiver.
So I installed the TomTom Update for PocketPCs - then - the built-in GPS receiver is there - but TomTom is updated in a way that I have to
activate the maps again -
Is there a way to use the GPS-receiver for TomTom - but without updating TomTom - respectively activate the maps again ??
thx

If you activated your maps with the "old" version of tomtom, it should be no problem to activate them again with the "new" version, should it?
But you can use the GPS with the "old" version, you just have to select "other NMEA" and it will work...
tomtom hangs - with NMEA GPS
Hi !
I tried to...
I selected "other NMEA GPS" - 115000 bauds - COM9...
then I have to agree to the terms...after pressing "I AGREEE" it hangs and closes the application.
does anyone have an idea ??
thx

And exactly HOW LEGAL is your copy of TomTom , and which version exactly are u using ?
I'm using v6.030 and it works without any quirks...
there's an update on TomTom's website for the HTC P3600/Trinity...i installed it and that solved my problem. you can also search xda-developers for a link to the cab file. hope this helps.

[Q] How to configure Garmin XT com port ?

I need help!
I can install Garmin XT in HTC Diamond but it didn´t work.
When I try to configure the com port it returns to "none".
select GPS Intermediate Driver instead of a COM port.
The problem is with the GPS hardware port, not with the program port, in HW port can find only com ports.
i have it set to "Use serial GPS" and there are COM4 and COM7 (COM7 is BT)..and when it's set, it shows "COM:4 COM4:"
Garmin GT
Yes, you can install and use Garmin on your HTC Diamond. I'm using this GPS sw. You need to "crack" the sw, and get a serial associated to you device.. I will try to put a doc next weekend (in spanish.. sorry) to install and use de sw..Be patience
The answer is: turn off A-GPS, the GPS with Garmin XT works well now

Help with Gps!!!

Hi, i have a Htc touch Diamond and i have a problem with my gps.
When i go into the settings, then system and then external GPS i make the gps programport to com 4 and the hardware to com 3 and the baud- speed to 4800 ( have tryed serval hardware ports programports and baud-speed adjustments) but when press the OK button in the corner of the screen and go into the external GPS again, the programport is still on com 4 but when i go into the hardwareport it says (in the small box were you can choose com 1 - 9) "nothing" (it might not be the word in english because im am danish so i havent put it on english) Is there really a thing i have missed? and btw, i have tryed with and without the auto administrate GPS I really hope you can help me!
Kildenmaf
Leave the settings alone
Just connect to Com 4 at the default baud rate with your software.

The com4 in programport or hardware?
The hardware tab is used only when using external GPS hardware. If you are using the Diamond's built-in GPS, it uses the setting on the Programs tab, and you can ignore the Hardware tab.

I have it on (checked). I have only used the GPS with Google Maps, and it works fine for me. The settings in Google Maps are to let Windows control it.
hmmm
okay thanks again

GPS HELP!

hi, i no that the x1 does not have a built in GPS.
but i have seen videos where ppl actually use it as a gps.
maybe they install sum sort of application into the phone?
can any1 please explain how does GPS work on the x1?
THanks alot, any information is greatly appreciated...
X1 has built-in GPS so you can use Tom-Tom, Garmin, iGo, ...
Just install the program (garmin, tomtom, iGo or something else for windows mobile). If you won't be able to connect with GPS satellite just do the hard reset on the phone. Than go to Quick GPS in your programs and download the latest gps positions.

Wow sounds like someone just got the X1 out of the box.
1. Go to Start > Settings > System > GPS Settings (or something with GPS)
There you can select what COM port the GPS chipset will use to communicate with the OS or any other software.
2. Use the "HTC GPS tool" to see if you get GPS signals outdoors. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360477
The X1 doesn't come with any GPS applications installed, but you can add a number of other programs that use the GPS facility.
For example, you can install TomTom Navigator 7, Garmin Mobile 20 or iGo8 for turn-based car satnav.
Or you can use the phone as a GPS locator for something like Geocaching (GPS based treasure hunts). GCz2 / Geocaching
Or you can use Google Maps to find out where you are and let your friends know with Latitude. Google Maps with Latitude
Or you can use the GPS facility to "geotag" photos, that is embed the location where the picture was taken inside the image data. Footprints
so is it normal that when using google map, i cant find any satellite??
if you enabled gps in googlemaps
and of cause stand outside as gps generally don't work in doors
only outside and in cars and the likes

[Q] GPS under Win 6.5

I upgarded my touch hd to 6.5 recently and now my GPS can not find the satalites.
Using Gmaps I set windows to auto - baud to 56000 and I have tried comms 0,1,4,6,8 without any joy.
Can HD with 6.5 work with GPS?
I search the forum for an answer but no luck either
Thanks
Ray
Well, iGO is working under 6.5.
And so does Google maps...
However, settings should be 57600 baud on COM 4 (at least thet's how they're set in my iGO)...
And you should use QuickGPS to get ephemerals...
No luck I'm affraid. Did all this and it will not find the satalites.
Thanks

Hi blueisland,
Working perfectly on my Touch HD.
What I would do.
Since I don't know what rom you've put on your phone is get
HTC GPS TOOL http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360477
and
GPS test from chartcross http://www.chartcross.co.uk/products/WM00002_details.asp
Now what to do:
Very important : sorry for the caps, GO OUTSIDE so no obstructions above the receiver
Start HTC GPS TOOL : go to 'function' -> 'mode' -> 'clear memory'
After that on the top 'open port' and 'start test' now you should see data coming in that window.
Now if you click on 'menu' (bottom right) you can click 'Satellite'. Normally you should see some bars which are the sats that show up.
You can close the appl if you see that.
Start GPS Test : not necessary but this one automatically searches for the com port and baute rate and also show the reception.
Let us know what happens.
Btw: After that you get that working GPSmoddriver is a very nice add on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=571266
no more lag on iGO
